Had issues with 2018 directly off showroom floor. It seemed to hang in 3rd and would hang there until restart. Less than 100 miles on the clock. It was at dealer for about 6 weeks. In the meantime, the dealer supplied me with a brand new 6 speed manual directly off the floor. Very fair and I put almost 1000 miles on that loaner. I don’t really recall what the issue was. At the time, it was the dealers 1st DCT and it did take some time solving the issue. I thinking maybe it was as simple as a DCT initialization procedure, but, who knew? It has been trouble free ever since and I have been extremely happy with this DCT Tourer even after 5 years. It’s an amazing machine and I still grin every ride. Just normal expected maintenance of battery ( which failed in 1st year), oil changes and tires. I’ve ridden Goldwings since my new one back in 1981. They have all been very dependable and comfortable, however, not one of the many I’ve had exceeds the 2018 DCT Tourer. I have no plans to upgrade. Where would I go? It is absolutely the most dependable, comfortable motorcycle on the market bar none. Thanks for your thoughts Chris…. You are the king of the wing…lol… but true
I don't have a Goldwing, but I have a 2015 Honda CTX700 with DCT. It has given me absolutely no trouble, and I love it. On our forum, the guys having issues were used to shutting the bike down with the kill switch, which is like turning off the key on your car while it is still in drive. Automatic transmissions don't like that. If you go to neutral, set the parking brake, and turn the key off all will be fine. This is also like shutting off your computer by yanking the plug out of the wall. With a high tech computerized vehicle like this, an orderly shutdown is preferred. If you're an old school rider, used to bump-starting your bike, etc. this is not the bike for you. Ride safe. Love your channel.👍🏾
2019 DCT owner here and I mainly keep my bike in manual wether in tour or sport mode which is pretty much the only two modes I use but I love having control of my own shift points… at low speed I haven’t had any problems at all bike runs like a champ…love this machine…
Good comments and recommendations re: clutch issues doing low speed manoeuvres. I similarly do these low speeds in manual and like you, I have had no clutch issues.
I had the same problem on my 2018 DCT , the bike wasn't firing after long rides, Honda tech suggested to replace the fuel pump and said that it stops pumping when it gets hot and yes it works after leaving it cool off for around 30 minutes, i have not changed the fuel pump yet still waiting for it to arrive, but I'm avoiding long rides until i do, it is worth mentioning that the fuel pump part # on the 2018 GW is different than the 2021+ and as advised by honda tech they ordered the new fuel pump , they both fit but I'm not sure if there is any difference between them. Another problem was the gear not shifting, and it gets stuck on any gear randomly i did the diagnosis and had two error codes 24-1 which is the "shift control motor drive circuit" and code 57-1 "gear shift mechanism malfunction" and i replaced the gear mechanism part which is located behind the front wheel under the lower cowl and thankfully it fixed the problem. This wouldn't stop me from loving the wing it is and will always remain the king of the touring bikes. Thanks Chris for sharing your thoughts and looking forward for the upcoming videos
'21 DCT 6,300 Miles, no issues. Everything built today has issues. Bikes, cars, etc. One person had issues with the slow speed maneuvering, and everyone is getting worried about it. Ride and enjoy, the DCT is a great machine!
Chris I remember you did have some starting or battery problems with your 2021; you made a video about it, you actually installed a meter on your bike to keep aware of the battery voltage. You drilled a hole in the upper left fairing, I believe and installed that meter. It was a superb job, I might add, it looked as though it came installed on the bike. Since then you have never posted a RUclips video about a starting issue. I hope I'm not going crazy, reason is that you handled that problem like the expert you are. BTW, still rolling with the 2004, the tranny is still popping a bit when I shift in to 5th but it is sporadic right now going to take it to the shop soon....Keep rolling and God Speed brother... if you open that Caliente Godwing repair Academy I wan to be one of the first students😀
You are correct, after I purchased my new Wing the battery was lacking cranking amps, I replaced the battery and installed a voltage gauge. This was not a Honda defect because Honda doesn’t make batteries, the Yuasa battery was the culprit, in the video I’m referring to manufacturer defects. ruclips.net/video/tkr-6vs3A1g/видео.html
2018 Wing Airbag model with 20,000 on it. Never an issue with it. That the thing about the MANY Gold Wings I’ve had, they always started no matter the weather conditions. Only issue I’ve had with older wings is with the switches sticking. Not an issue with the 2018…
I have a 2018 DCT GOLDWING and have not had any issues since I bought it new in 2018. I did have some few shut offs when in low throttle. When in hot weather shut off at stop lights in heat or trying to park .
Chris thanks so much for all the great info. Have a f6b but just recieved a 2023 dct tour. Here in michigan and snowing. Love the comment about the tv I reckon I am older than I realize lol. Thanks again ride safe. Bob
Hey... I have a 2018 manual... love changing gears myself, just the kid in me... I've had two issues... The heated seats indicator keeps blinking. Dealer said that the connectors needed cleaning, but that did not fix the problem. I will schedule an appointment to take it back soon. Also, moisture was getting into the headlight assembly... dealer replaced that and all is good with it.
Hi Chris, Honda should know slow riding is part of motorcycle riding. My 2023 GW tour only had 7 miles when I took it for a ride after bringing it home. No slow riding has been done on it. Dealer said, it’s a manufacturing defect and that’s what warranties are for. Honda is going systemically going about it by replacing part by part to see what fixes it. They haven’t started yet.
First off, I wouldn't go telling them that I am doing low speed maneuvers, just that I had been riding. Second, I think you are right about using manual instead of the automatic. I would like to know if any of these guys having problem, had used manual or not.
A Buddy Of mine. back home has a 2018 Honda goldwing. a week after he bought it the computer went up on it. But they are still good Motorcycles Then those other ones.
I have 2019 DCT a few years ago me bike would start after I turned it off , after waiting a few minutes and a few tries it started, ( a few times)I have had the problem lately, hoping I just did something out of order.
Man I love that view through that sweet F4 windshield. Optical clarity. Smooth sailing out there Prez. The DCT is an absolute game changer. No issues here with my 22 DCT Tour Airbag. Weather here in North Texas just like you. Rain is gone and Spring has most definitely spring. Gorgeous days ahead. Ya’ll have a safe trip on your way to Texas. I know you ride hard. Looking pro out there. Peace
I think you are right ppl are trying to do slow speed manuevers in auto in my opinion and you get to 10 mph the bike wants to shift and if someone is diing this for hrs yea they might have problems cause bikes keeps shifting and ppl keep down shifting I dibt understand why ppl dont out the bike in manual mode that way transmission not doing any shifting anf you can ride in first gear at 10 mph for miles and miles no problems cause ive done it with a ctx700 dct never had a problem with that bike and dis slow spees maneuvers for hrs and hrs for weeks at a time never a problem in manual and now I have a goldwing dct and have no problems with abd I do all my slow speeds in manual mode so I can control the gear shifter these ppl are driving me crazy with and I think they just dont know how to ride a dct transmission bike my opinion only
You are 1000% correct, the rider should manually switch gears according to proper shift points, otherwise the automatic transmission will attempt to switch gears when you need low end power, that does not mean leave the bike in one gear and red line the rpm’s to the max because that would cause overheating and wear out the clutch plate. Each gear has a recommended speed and proper shift point which is no different than changing gears on a regular standard motorcycle as you accelerate from one gear to the next. The same principle works on a manual speed automobile. In my 35 years of experience with manual transmission, I’ve never burned out a clutch, if a rider burns out a clutch in Manual, he’s not shifting gears at the proper RPM shift points.
I saw a video on RUclips from Motorman Ride like a Pro Jerry Paladino. He says low speed maneuvers on the new automatic Goldwing can cause the clutch plates to wear our quickly. If you get a chance to check it out its worth it. He means slow maneuvering like motor officers riding.

Each gear has a recommended speed and proper shift point which is no different than changing gears on a regular standard motorcycle as you accelerate from one gear to the next.
Jerry puts riders in situations 99% would never see. Fools pay Jerry to put them on a course they would never need to maneuver riding on streets so they can drop their bike. I don't need a course that trains me to maneuver in a bar parking lot.
Mines a 2018 6MT Tour. Always take a proper slipper clutch over a DCT. Had clutch switch issues early on and now the damn third member is leaking and has ruined the rear brake pads. I bought the extended Honda warranty. Just need to get it in so Honda can fix it. Need to take the car tire off and put a new Stone on the back so the SOB's cant void the warranty because of a car tire on it. Been riding the new MT-09 fun bike I got for Christmas.
If I was to buy new Goldwing… it Will remains manual transmission…. Hearing all the issues on DCT… Honda should halt and fix the problem before leaving the factory… issue?? They move too fast on the assembly line and it’s gone before adjustment is made. 🥹 really sucks. Recently… I don’t see any 2023 Goldwing in Colorado show rooms this past month…. Just one sporting one in, Lakewood, Colo. Ride safe guys !!

Hey Chris, did Honda include a voltage meter on the 2016? I see the 14.2 in the left cluster...or did you? Thanks for another great vlog!
Honda does not give u a voltage’s gauge on either Goldwing, I installed the digital gauge myself. ruclips.net/video/mLJbWJTyOCs/видео.html

Chris are you aware if you can add a 21 inch front wheel on the 2018+ honda goldwing dct
A big wheel on the front of my Goldwing is not for me but I’m sure that with certain modifications a bigger wheel on the front is possible to achieve.
What about the difference front/rear as far as ABS rotation sensor speed?
Honda will not fix it with warrantee btw
