Happy Landings! Fly outside the box. 📦✈
I’ve never known a youtuber to be so addictive in such little time
If water or other fluid (soup...) comes into electronics, at first it should be cleaned by isopropyl alcohol and then left for drying. Fluids, including not distilled water makes damages - sometimes hidden, which can come out even months later. And dont ever forget about ESD.
i think it really looks like a ground affect aircraft
Doesn't look like one but behaves like one
I really does
Ekranoplane!
Put an under powered motor on it and it would be!
Motion's only contribution to the design was stickers.
I crashed my HK Skipper hard enough to completely destroy the fuselage. HK was out of stock, so I bought a Dragonfly fuselage. Prefect fit. Later, I had the canopy fall off into dense trees, so now I have a Josway canopy and magnet set.
I built a Northstar when I was a kid, then picked up a Skipper and a couple Drangonfly's, (the latter being identical in every way but paint.) It took a while, but I finally have perfected the FPV setup on it, as waterproof FPV cameras have never really been a thing and now I know why. These planes are absolute Units, with a little time and laminating film almost indestructible!
Epic Drill Bits, these planes
Great review guys! Glad to see you had so much fun with the Dragonfly. It’s truly one of those great bang for your buck models. You guys have been making some absolutely fantastic videos lately. Keep up the great work.
It looks like it’s designed to be adapted to what an RC plane is going to be doing rather than replicating or taking the role of a certain aircraft type or general category. Definitely gotta check this one out.
Hate to admit I remember the original Northstar kit. 😒 Another fantastic review. Your commentary is absolutely brilliant. When you have time a review of the Motion RC Bison XT would be great. It has some quirky bits but really looks sweet. Loved the Cheeto dust line, actually laughed out loud! Keep up the amazing work boys!
👍🏻👍🏻
It’s a copy of the north star/Polaris and like you said has been around for decades. China didn’t invent anything about this design. If anyone it was a Canadian guy named Laddie Mikulasko
4:04 bailey running is the cutest, goofiest thing i have ever seen.
I built a Micro Polaris a few years ago and loved it but it had to be retired. got the red 650 raptor you teased and I've been having a blast with it all summer. Highly recommend
Sorry I recovered your plane at 'Nall. 🙂 Lesson learned and Dragonfly just bought. Thanks for the review!
I've been waiting all week for this DEJAHVUH
Great video as always, cant wait for the half timber....
Hey guys, you all should review a few twisted hobby’s planes like the crack turbo beaver, and crack Pitts. They’re awesome kits.
I have scratch built 5 foamy 36" ws and 4 58" ws Polaris' s for myself and family members and of all the different planes I have built over the years, they are by far, the most fun to fly, especially the 58" version. With bidirectional tape protecting the bottom, you can fly this plane off most any type of surface and even hand launch if you want to.
I wonder what if anything could be improved by using that two part system guys with John boats etc use for their undersides? TinyBoatNation for example have used it and they love it. I bet on such a small application it would be phenomenal!
My hobbyking skipper has 4 hours and 30 minutes of flight time on it and yup, pretty much does everything you guys have shown it to do. Belly flops are fun and with a harrier mix (up elevator / up aileron) it will stall clean without wing rock and just fall. It really has been a fun water plane to keep at camp, it is east to store and just flying around lazy I get 7 minutes plus on a 3S 1300. In a turn it defiantly needs to be flow coordinates and it lets you know by dropping its @ss the higher bank angle it’s in. When starting from scratch it needs about 5 degrees up elevator on the static setup or you’ll run out of up trim before it’s flying hands off, it’s from the high thrust line but perfectly normal.
Clever concept, really. And any landing is OK as long as the dam is intact. Even I find it hard to break props with those.
I have an old fabric covered Northstar converted to electric, and flying on 6S, and a HK Skipper.
They are both a hoot to fly!
Highly recommended.
That dog wanted to murder that plane lol.
This might not be your thing, but could you do a review of the Dreamflight Libelle? It looks like a really cool plane and would be a fun change of pace from the planes you have been reviewing.
I loved my Libelle! DLG’s are a blast but usually too expensive for people to just try. It doesn’t fly as good as a molded carbon one but it still gets you a real DLG experience.
GREAT video. I'll be getting one as soon as they get back in stock.
Whats the cheapest version of it?
conformal coating the boards could help
Yep. I’m old. I had two north stars.
They flew like jets. Rudder didn’t do anything. Ailerons did aileron things and they flew terribly with the wheels. I just flew mine without wheels from grass with three layers of covering on the bottom and they took off and landed fine.
I had a few Polari and they were all great. Night and day in performance. I was very sad when they went belly up.
I’ll be getting one of these.
Cool plane, but I think you need to show us all the videos where Bailey catches the plane!
I saw a north star for sale today at an RC club I was visiting with my friend. There were a bunch of old (70-80) people who were selling their friends' aircrafts, because said friend was transferred to a retirement home :(
Another great video. Thank you for the great review BOTH the positives and the negatives. Keep up the good work.
Dude thats reminding me off the depron kit Polaris they used to throw out there! (lol mentioned in the video too)
Great video. Can't wait for next week!
The intro beat was crazy 0:30
Ye, sick! Anyone know what song that is?
Found it! ‘Machinima - roonin, strlght’
I put a gyro stabiliser in my Skipper and found that take-off was difficult because the elevator was always acting to keep the model level despite the choppy waves. On glassy smooth water it was even harder. I used to switch the Gyro on after take-off. This model will comfortably do knife-edge flight with the gyro on.
BTW avoid flying near barbed wire fences :)
Absolutely agree do not use the gyro on takeoff. Because it won't!
Do you guys try differential ailerons? Int his case elevons. Was good in delta style planes
Might have to pick one up for next summer since we spend it at the lake. Could be a fun change to the usual high wing beaver, tundra, timber and cub.
04:04 Look at that little scrump run! Happy scrump.
Nice. I did quite a few videos on the hobby king Skippers 9 years ago from the boat too. They had 2 sizes. High speed touch and go on the grass took out the rudder servo on my friend’s Skipper so we decided to not do that anymore. Still have mine and love it too. 👍
They're really fun for sure! Glad you've still got one. -Zach
Thanks guys!
Awesome! Yea I’ve owned the North Star and have been in the process for the past month of recovering it and putting a spectrum receiver in it! Cool that you a little about it. Think I’ll have to pick a dragonfly up now too.
Cool plane! I would get it but I don’t really have any suitable body’s of water other than a big wavy lake… but still looks really fun to fly!!
I just put this one together mine is neon orange ! Can’t wait to fly it 😊
I've had some good results w/ a 4s ~1400mAh. The MotionRC Dragonfly's ESC can handle up to 6s.
I've been playing around with canards on these to shorten takeoff speed. I'm still learning how to fly though, would love to see you guys modify this and see what you think.
Something charming about uniquely RC plane formats being copied and redone by anyone out there. It even reveals where the real engineering is, since not all versions fly equal.
Laddie Mikulasko…I wanna learn more about this guy and his design methods
those old nitro north stars are awesome rc planes!
Amazing Video
While you're on a kick for wierd seaplanes, Model Airplane Review had a plan for a plane called "The Beast" that was super unique. I would love a video on that and maybe a modern electric version.
I'd like to add this to my regrowing fleet.
The best designed RC aircraft I have ever owned in over 20 years of aeromodeling..
Great review, thank you!
Bro I've just been recently thinking about getting this!
My Skipper is ancient and awesome. The H650 "Paptor" not so much.
Rutan is not a climate change denier. He does disagree with the interpretation of the data.
Describing him as militant is also not accurate. He is proud of his work for DARPA and collaborations with other aerospace companies. He’s a private entrepreneur who did the great majority of his work and research in the civilian space. He never joined the military, just contracted for projects with whoever would pay and give him the creative freedom to pursue solutions which he considered worthwhile.
I really like this version of tail heavy.
No more aviation sponsors. You guys can fly whatever you want, especially the stuff you love.
And you have all the freedom you’d want to make fun of any bad models anyone comes out with.
✈️
So.... Where does one order that speed build kit? Lol
Swing by the sketchiest gas station in town and ask the guy out front with face tattoos...
I still have my Northstar from the 80's its still flying nicely on an OS-40 but finding fuel at a reasonable price is getting hard.
It's Just a polaris!
I had a HK Skipper it was great. Now I have, in a box, the Lander Polaris, same as the HK Skipper XL. I have a HK sk3 3536 1800kv motor, with 60A esc and a 8x6 APC Prop with a Zippy 3s 4500 40c at 368g. Hoping the battery is not to heavy. And I will put a A3L Gyro in it to smooth out the floppiness.
Keep the blue side up🆙🆙⬆️⬆️
i have a joysway dragonfly on inav with fpv and elrs, its such a fun plane, unfortunatly its currently a bit canabalised to get other stuff going but all it really needs is a receiver and vtx and its good to go, water landings (and takeoffs) in fpv goggles is super fun (i have a tinyhawk3 whoop canopy bolted to the nose LOL!)
At 3:41 What is the rescue boat?
You know, gas and glow are actually really easy and not finicky at all. Once you get it tuned you get 45 minutes of flight time and barely have to tune them again
Nate is a RC flying Beast. Jeff in LA USA
Teflon tape would be good for the bottom
Nice to see someone taking digs at rutans politics
You should try out the FMS KINGFISHER 1400mm you won't regret it.
Unfortunately, the FMS Kingfisher comes in 2nd from the worst out of the park flyer bush planes we've looked into for wing cube loading/WCL (aka how floaty and light the plane would fly and how slow it’ll stall). It comes in at a 9.0WCL as opposed to the FunCub NG’s of 5.1WCL - for reference. You'd definitely feel a difference in how it flies in confined spaces for bush flying as opposed to the FunCub. For this reason, we don’t plan to try it out.
Is it very tricky to do that instant-stall belly flop landing @5:17? That's what's attracting me to this plane but it doesn't seem like many people land it that way.
All about timing - and you can practice it at altitude safely as well.
Something very similar, a Seawind 3000 full size just crashed on Lake Sammamish killing one and critically injuring the other.
Nice video
Laddie Mikulasko's name rings a bell as the original designer of the Northstar. The design must be about 50 years old by now.
Yep, it's one of Laddie's designs.
I am currently building a northstar that i found in a garage i was emptying!
Where is the nitro powered timber? I was promised this idea and im excited
I was wondering what you were doing with that timber split down the middle
You guys make the greatest videos! I've been flying for a year and a half self-taught all park fires under 800 mm most of my planes have been glued in places you would think could never be glued haha. You guys have been such an inspiration because most of my planes are uglyfide ! I can fly patterns and circles all day long but it took me quite a while to learn inverted flight but with the help of a simulator I'm getting pretty good at it now. And so what if my planes need a little back elevator to keep them level let them fly lol. Keep up the great work as you guys are one of my favorite channels it's nice to see channels that aren't big company marketing tools. 🤠
Thank you! We're glad to hear you're having a blast flying!
Can you make a review of HOBBYZONE Aeroscout?
i had a "Big" Red one, 3-4 years a go, it flew like a brick.. Dragon something, might been a Joyesway.
I love flying my dragonfly really nice model
Nice 👍
One more reason to love Burt Rutan . P.S. making false claims on your video won’t make you any more popular.
dang, im tempted to buy the chinese airframe and put some 3d printed winglets on it for those juicy touch and gos on the lake
I wonder why this had never been built for the Pacific theater these days
Keep it up
It’s a copy of the sea wind aircraft, a full size aircraft. Most model copies tend to have stupid delta wings, instead of the conventional wing. More floppy in pitch must be more fun to most people I guess. Whatever
It looks as if a Seawind, F-16 and the nose of an glider had a freak baby
This channel is better than game of thrones btw both in quality and entertainment value
I did get one a while back. Really love how it looks flying at the field. Great flying airplane. Unfortunately for me, it lands like a Golf Ball that won't stop bouncing. I have a Paved runway only. I am going to put some wheeled landing gear on this thing. Can anybody give me some pointers. THANKS.
This plane is meant to be landed in a full stall when landing on hard surface. If you land with a flatter attitude, it will bounce.
Where is the proof that this is the world's most copied airplane? 🤣🤣🤣
He's never heard of a Piper Cub or a P-51 Mustang ;)
How much does it cost I have I have a hlk31 another seaplane witch is a copy of this I think
Lol you are right about this model being cloned to hell. I wanted a Skipper but settled for the HK Artic Cat to scratch my high performance seaplane itch
I NEED THAT PLANE
LOL @ Nate
Great video, but you failed to mention there are many Rhutans of RC. Carl Goldberg never gets his due.
I fly mine on 4s with stock electronics.
why don't we see this design on full size airplanes?
I saw a Nate in this video!!!
👀
@@TailHeavyProductions hey man. Y’all need to make it to Bigfoot at Birmingham rc association. Gonna be a ton of RUclips folks there it’s the third week of October
Unable. Have fun!
The simple answer of why it needs stick input to fly inverted. a€YT£^{awq¥+* = It is really unnatural to pull down while inverted.
MOTOR MOUTH RC REVIEWS
Blohm & Voss Monotwinber
I am polaris years old
If you squint and blind one eye, It looks like an A4 from below.
oh i thought it was covid... but its a plane
watched this video around 2 hours after my dad slammed an electric glider (that im better at flying) 90 degrees into the ground. nice.
My dad killed my his timber by nosing it over with the floats. this was last labour day and I flew it the next day and it flew fine. I put rocks in it and industrial fan and kept it on over night and it still hovered
Hi
