In honesty, the rear tub was probably the hardest replacement part to source! I spent countless hours trawling through various websites, forums etc looking for a breaker vehicle with a clean tub (which, as you can imagine is pretty much an impossible task as the tub always gets a hard life on these trucks - that's if it hasn't rusted away first). In the end i found a breaker in wales with a truck that'd had a loadliner fitted from new which had lead a seemingly easy life. It was a challenge but i got there. Hopefully you will too. Good luck with your search.
@@JayHm sorry to say that's the only way. I guess this us why so many people end up going down the tray back route instead of replacing the tub. Best of luck with your search
Thanks! She may be an old commercial spec, but there's something about the truck. I wanted to keep it fresh and in daily use so it was worth the effort! Regarding tray backs; This is where people ditch the tub altogether and fabricate a custom framework / platform (generally flat) onto the rear chassis. Hi Johnny liking the colours you chose I'm from Trinidad 🇹🇹. Did your van come dual battery ? I have also have a model like yours but its not dual battery.
Hey Sharaz, thanks for checking out the video! Yes the KDN165 (this generation of hilux) came equipped with 2 batteries as standard here in the UK. I'm glad you like the colour scheme... Its a bit more Interesting than the standard white I thought!
I had a Toyota like this, reliable? You must be joking. Bought it new three days after I took delivery it got stuck and did so almost 170 times the first year I had it. At less than 80K kilometres the brakes failed; the vehicle wouldn't stop. Before that the bearings in the transfer box had to be replaced etc. This vehicle was meticulously serviced ever 5K kilometres. So much for Toyota's reliability.
I've got to say that's the first time I've heard someone suggest that a Hilux is unreliable! I guess yours was the exception to the rule. I genuinely cannot fault my truck, its never let me down at all, in any way and I can only base my opinion on personal experience!
Hi Thomas, thanks very much! The arch kit on my truck was sold as a 'tiger' kit. I didn't think it was still available but a quick google search looks like there is an ebay seller offering a tiger kit at the moment (i can't guarantee its the same as mine, but its certainly got the same name!) Cheers!
Yeh mine have been shot in body colour (I resprayed the whole truck in 'super white' a couple of years ago). Not too hard but it is what I do so maybe not the best gauge to use! If you're ensure though you could also coat them in raptor paint / bed liner stuff as it's easy to get a uniform finish and it'll make them very hard wearing!
Do you mean the tub (the rearmost, open part)? These are very hard to find in good condition. It took me a long time searching to find this one. If you're interested in repairing your tub rather than replacing, check out my latest video where you can see me repairing a rotten tub on a 2009 Hilux.

I have a couple other questions as I'm interested in doing some of the same upgrades you did. Is there any other way to contact you if thats OK?
If you check out the about page on my profile you'll find my direct email address 👍
I can't seem to find your email address can you send it thanks.

Where can i found the plate you put bellows the engine?
Do you mean on this hilux or the one I've just built in my Chop To The Top series?
@@JohnnyGetsCash on this one
@@derrickferere9930 this is actually the standard bash guard but refinished and with the slogan added 😉
Hi did you put wheel spacers on the hi lux?
No spacers, these are straight forward hub fitment 👍
What spec for that rim
You lift the suspension 2inch or the body?
??
This Hilux has both body lift and suspension lift kits
Yo bro, what model year is this truck? 1998?
Hey, no this is a 2002 MK5!
Hey johnny awesome car, were can I get flairs like yours?
Hi Thomas, thanks very much! The arch kit on my truck was sold as a 'tiger' kit. I didn't think it was still available but a quick google search looks like there is an ebay seller offering a tiger kit at the moment (i can't guarantee its the same as mine, but its certainly got the same name!) Cheers!
@@JohnnyGetsCash Thankyou! Appreciate it. Also did you paint yours and how hard is it to do so?
Yeh mine have been shot in body colour (I resprayed the whole truck in 'super white' a couple of years ago). Not too hard but it is what I do so maybe not the best gauge to use! If you're ensure though you could also coat them in raptor paint / bed liner stuff as it's easy to get a uniform finish and it'll make them very hard wearing!
Where can i find the hatch part?
Do you mean the tub (the rearmost, open part)? These are very hard to find in good condition. It took me a long time searching to find this one. If you're interested in repairing your tub rather than replacing, check out my latest video where you can see me repairing a rotten tub on a 2009 Hilux.
Awesome looking rig mate! I’ve got the kzn165r which is a 3ltr turbo diesel and I love it! Question about the wrx seats though, what year Subaru are yours out of and did they bolt straight in? Cheers bruiser
Cheers! The seats are from a version 5 gc8 impreza and they largely bolted straight in, only needing minor adjustments to the bolt holes on the runners. Super comfy / supportive seats, would highly recommend them 👍 cheers!
How much do you want for the truck?
Sorry Genaro, this one's not for sale... My faithful workhorse!
Okay so I may have bought a 2004 hilux today with 300k on the clock runs fine drove for a long time after I got it no problems what so ever I kinda wanna have somthing in my back pocket if it was to blow up witch I’m kinda expecting let’s be honest I’ve been brave 😂😂🙄...... where could I get a solid spare engine ?
Good purchase! Im not sure where best to tell you to look for a replacement engine, but i've had the same thought myself and i don't mind telling you...if anything were to happen to my D4d, it'd be 2JZ time!
Which year/version is this?
This is a 2002 MK5 (2.5 D4d) 👍
@@JohnnyGetsCash awesome.
Hello man can u help me how to get those rims, lift and seats please🙏
Hi Haitini. The wheels are 15" Modular steels and the tyres are Hankook MT 33's.
The seats are from a version 5 Subaru Impreza WRX. Hope that helps! 👍
@@JohnnyGetsCash thanks a lot man, i have da same Toyota and i think u made gud choices. I really like da sound 😎👌
Cant wait fo mine..Thanks
Greetings from TAHITI french polynesia 🤙
@@JohnnyGetsCash yes it helps a lot..sorry but i forgot To ask about the lifts please 🙏
Merci 👍😁
No worries. Lift-wise my truck is on a 2 inch body lift and a 2 inch suspension lift. Coupled with the bigger tyres it adds up to what I think is an impressive but still usable height!
Hi bro
Please do you know a website were i can find the suspension lift kit with shock absorbers. Cant find a good one. I changed tyres and it looks better, but I would like to lift more.
Merci🙏
Hope your watching what Whistlindiesel is doing to a Hilux right now.
Yes, I am following it! I can't even be mad - what a way to showcase just how tough these things are! I will never get rid of my Hilux!
@@JohnnyGetsCash Also watch ‘Worlds Toughest Roads’….see what they do to Hilux’s….theres an episode there where i think around 13 people…yes you heard me…13 people get out and….i’m not going to spoil it…find it and watch it…makes Jeremy Clarkson and Whistlin Diesel look like they’re combing the popes hair
I have an h2
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Leonardo!
Whats the milage on it?
Just enough to be recognised by the Toyota High Mileage club (150,000 miles) - Still going strong and never misses a beat!
@@JohnnyGetsCash Id say thats pretty low milage for the age. Look after her well, its a classic
That is a big beast 😄👍🏻 perfect for some bunny bashing at night with the .22 lol the spotters would make them freeze on the spot 🤣 . You done a great job to restore it . Cheers Neil! Unfortunately I can't get your link to work! Do you have a link to the feature on Total Vauxhall or anything?
whats the engine you gate there mate ?
This is the 2.5 D4d unit 👍
Is this the exact same as the 1999 Hilux Surf ?
No, this is a KDN165. The surf is an SUV body 👍
@@JohnnyGetsCash besides the body. I meant like engine, interior and suspension.
