@intensegamer It’s all subjective, of course. But to compare this bike with the great Italian showstoppers of the 70’s……you’re having a laugh! The new Yammy’ is simply showing too many fussy lines and boxy angles…..it’s called ‘trying too hard’ , compared to the simple elegance of the Le Mans & 900SS.
@@nigelfisher3756 The GP is a showstopper in her own right because she looks absolutely fantastic, rides great, is based on a very capable and reliable platform that spawned a series of characterful bikes AND doesn‘t break the bank. On top of that it manages to stand out in a motorcycle market that is orders of magnitude larger than it was when a 900SS was sold to customers. To each his own I guess.
@intencegamer I see your passion for it; I said it looked to be a very good bike. It’s a new bike do tech’ and other machining advancements come in to play, of course. But the 70’s bike’s created legends. Both the Le Mans & the 900SS won on track and Laverda’s 750 SFC won endurance apart from being fabulously stylish road going bikes. And……have you seen the prices lately of those old Italian classic super bikes?
@@nigelfisher3756 Sure, the value for collectors is a thing (and far beyond reason imo). The GP certainly doesn’t fall into that category since it is a relatively cheap mass produced bike. But my passion for it comes from the fact that it is a design icon based on an early 90s GP legend and an affordable yet brilliant daily rider instead of just another (boring) investment that sits around collecting value instead of being enjoyed purposefully. We only live once and we can‘t take our money with us into the void that follows.
I love it! Now that pretty much the ultimate limits for bikes have been reached, now is the time for cool models like this. 1980s GP replicas, inline 4 400's. Bikes are cool again.
It was Yamaha US who called that decision, they could have taken it but it seems they declined. They may change their minds though. I'd love to see a Kenny Roberts Speed Block yellow one of these!
Sadly you can't, at the moment. I spoke to Yamaha Motor Europe on the launch, and this bike is down to them basically. The boss of YME said he's only responsible for Europe and this bike was offered, but they declined. My guess is that when they see how well it does over here and in Japan, they might change their mind. So many big name GP racers from that era that could be the inspiration for the paint scheme, KR Jnr speed block yellow anyone? They'd be fools not to do it!
I have heard that it was offered to Yamaha USA but they declined it. Such a shame, as I've already said, a Kenny Roberts version in Speed Block yellow would look awesome!
It got canned so many times, and then when they did give Yamaha Europe the green light, COVID landed. This was the first bike they'd made which had to be totally designed in CGI. No clay models, no early prototypes. Just a computer screen and virtual reality. Quite an achievement really, as the finished result is very sweet!
I've seen like 5 or 6 reviews the past few days and none of them mention the top speed. It would be really nice to know if the XSR900GP still has the lowered rev limiter in 5th and 6th gear, like the MT-09 has or if the engine is allowed to reach its natural top speed, without artificial limits. It would kinda suck having a super stable sport bike with almost 120 hp, that can only reach 220 km/h. Even a CBR650R with 95 hp is faster than that.
Manufacturers don't disclose that for EU reasons, and we don't get to test it as were riding on road and when at Jerez we weren't using the full track. Highest I saw onn the launch was 120mph on the *cough* track...
@@visordown Isn't the top speed written down in the registration documents? Its in the CoC that I know for sure. So why do they need to make such a secret out of it? Well, I will ask my Yamaha dealer tomorrow, maybe he can tell me.
The CBR600RR is good value in the UK at the moment, but I wouldn't bank on it staying that way. I have a feeling Honda will bump up the price once it starts flying out dealerships!
I think this looks more complete, the VMoto always looked like a kit to me, it looked good, don't get me wrong, but you could tell it was a bolt-on kit.
It's got to be the Legend Red! If you bought the Stealth bike, you'd kick yourself every time you saw a Legend Red one out on the road. Well I would! Thanks for watching :-)
I guess you are right, I only hope the bike fits me and I can at least sit on one in time. At 6’5“ a blind preorder for a motorcycle is kind of risky, as much as i would like to. Thank you for your reply. Have a nice weekend 👍.
@@visordown Toad, they should have have offered the second colour option in the gorgeous Sonauto/Gaulioses [Christian Sarron] scheme instead of the grey and black.
Great reviewer, nice editing…all good. Please no bgm🙏🏽…I guess this isn’t the 1st time you’re hearing this. Come on Visordown…there isn’t even a proper exhaust note clip in your videos
The only negative is the comfort. The seat isn't the comfiest and the clip-ons make it quite wristy. It's okay for two, maybe three hours of solid riding. But a full day like we did on the launch, that was a bit much for my upper body and wrists.
Yamaha say it's been styled by an era and not one bike, meaning it has bits of TZ250 and YZR500 race bikes - primarily the OW70, OW76, OW98, and OWD3 and in the flesh it looks bloody lovely.
There’s a lot to like about the bike, but I’m too old for clip ons. Otherwise I love what they’ve done with the xsr, especially the newer dash and color options. I would prefer black and grey myself, but I get the whole retro color scheme. Nice interruption this time, engine noise, not people. Ha. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
It is quite wristy. I mean, it's not a bike many people will ride all day on, but after seven hours I could feel soe aches and pains creeping in. To be fair though, they all disappear when you turn around and look back at the thing!
I suppose, in a weird way, the TRX850 was kinda the forerunner this kind of bike. It was sort of the forerunner for the Tracer, in a round about way if you squint a bit!

A great bike but, in terms of looks, not in the same league as the classic Italian stuff like Guzzi’s Le Mans, Ducati’s 900SS and Laverda’s 750SF2.
Oh yes, it is! The fairing i.e. is a piece of art. The GP has every right to be compared to the likes of a 900 SS.

Great style and ride!
Rush it!
I would buy one of these in a heartbeat. Here is hoping Yamaha changes there mind and brings these to the US.
The black with the Akra and lowers - Wow!
split the front light and you have some VFR honda vibes
I think it would look sweet with twin headlights, OW01 style - I'm sure someone will do that.
