Small World - Explaining Staples

  • Small World falls into the category of searcher. It has the effect to search basically any monster from your deck at the cost of banishing a monster from your hand face down, going minus 1 in the process. So if your playing a deck that needs exactly 1 specific monster to start all your combos, then small world is a perfect card for searching it out in a multitude of decks. The only thing preventing this card from being played in basically every deck is the fact it requires a bridge to search your specific target, and the minus 1. So for example, say we want to search Circular in mathmech. We have a random mathmech card in hand, like Addition. With small world, we have to then reveal 1 card in our deck who only shares 1 thing with it, between atk/def, level, attribute, and type. So we choose Parallel eXceed, since the only thing it shares is the cyberse type. Then we can only search a card that only shares 1 thing with Parallel eXceed, which Circlar meets since it only shares the cyberse type. So in this example, Parallel eXceed is the bridge, allowing you to use any other mathmech card to search out your most needed combo starter.

    You know that old game "six degrees of separation"? Thats the way Small World works. Using the video example, Addition is a Cyberse, like Exceed, and likewise Exceed is a Cyberse like Circular. Just as the saying goes "Its a small world."
    But that's an easy one, lets go a bit more complex. I use it in my Mikanko deck to search both my Kaijus as well as Lava Golem if I don't already have them. My line goes as such: Reveal Ha-re in my hand. The important particular in this case is her level, specifically 3. Archfiend Eccentrick is ALSO a level 3, and thus my bridge. Now here's where things get fun. If I use her attribute (Light) I can grab either Thunder King or Jizukiru as both are Lights too. Or I can use her type (Fiend) and grab Golem as its also a fiend.
    ...or I can go level and grab Hu-Li or Ni-Ni. I actually have access to every monster in my deck, just off one connection, the fact that the Mikanko and Eccentrick level match. If there's one card I recommend everyone practice, it's this one.

    • @Xeno-The-Wanderer
      @Xeno-The-Wanderer 10 месяцев назад +3

      damn if only I scrolled more I would've seen this. 3 cards and you only need one thing a pair have in common to make the bridge but the 3rd does not need it say wind warrior to dark warrior to dark fiend

    • @MysticEle
      @MysticEle 10 месяцев назад +6

      @@Xeno-The-Wanderer correct. The key here is having at least one connection between all three cards in the line. So using my example:
      First connection: Level Ha-re & Eccentrick: 3. Note that Ha-re can be any of the non ritual Mikanko, but she's one of the easiest to use.
      Second connection:
      * Attribute Eccentrick and Thunder King/Jizukiru: Light
      * Type Eccentrick and Golem: Fiend
      * Level Eccentrick and Ni-ni/Hu-li: 3
      The easiest way to practice this is by looking at your own deck and seeing if there's any small world lines you can make right now. You've got the fundamentals down already, so all you need to do is give it a try. If the answer is no, then is there any monsters you can add that WOULD work as a bridge? It doesn't need to be as varied as Eccentrick is, as you might just need one specific card. Though obviously if you can swing it that way and be capable of searching several targets go for it.
      Truthfully I just want more people playing the card. It's criminally underrepresented for how good it is.

      @@MysticEle depends on decks, most I feel probably can work it but many decks probably have all the searchers they need that could also push their gameplan forward at the same time. Now if it’s to search generic stuff that could be interesting say someone thinks to use it to get Nibiru to push the opponent on the back foot when it comes to their turn (this scenario you’re first) or dimension shifter. Something that can screw over the plans of the opponent or heck in ocg/master duel grab maxx C to taunt the opponent though all of the examples are deck dependent but nibiru and shifter are probably the easiest due to prominence of light and dark

    To match a monster to another via their stats, either their ATK or their DEF needs to be the same (but not both).

    The thing with Small World is exactly that. It is _too_ good at being a searcher, to the point that the deterrent of using Small World is the game's entire pool of monster cards.
    I kid you not, there's a Small World online calculator for those that don't have the patience or reading comprehension needed to properly use the card.

    I think people are confused because there should be more emphasis on the 'exactly 1' because people dont know it means 'only 1 AND NO OTHER'-- meaning the bridge card and any card it bridges cant have any more similarities (type, atk, etc.). So essentially a card can search itself if theres a bridge as a simple example.

    Another problem for small world is that not every deck has a bridge, so, sometimes, you will need to use a garnet, which just means that draw the garnet, and you are eefed.

  • @WyvernKnightBright
    @WyvernKnightBright 10 месяцев назад +1

    It's a great and cool card, but suffers some of the most from "Math test syndrome". Where the card is so bloated with text and a bizzare ordering (Having to use the words "Reveal, Choose and Add" just to try and differentiate the three different cards, and then realising you actually banish the card from deck last for some reason) that it's easy for players reading to get lost and confused with what is actually quite a simple effect.
    All the words don't quite register in peoples heads as "I banish a Dragon from hand, to banish a different dragon from deck, which lets me add another different dragon from deck to hand."

    • @colmecolwag
      @colmecolwag 10 месяцев назад

      Most Kashtira cards are both Psychic AND Level 7, which means they usually share two things in common.
      Which is why a different Psychic, like Psy-Framegear Gamma or Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit would probably work better as a bridge, since all they have in common with most of the Kashtira cards is being a Psychic type.

    I run an amazoness deck in master duel, and since most amazoness are warrior type and amazoness baby tiger is usually the only beast type with the lower atk def and level compared to all the other monsters, maybe small world can do well there

    • @yugix7
      @yugix7 10 месяцев назад

      The issue is that you need a bridge which share only 1 atk/def, level, type or attribute only. So, in most of the times, you may play one-off garnet which will make small world unplayable if the garnet is drawn.

    • @BlindOracle00

    Idea for a Spell and Trap version of this:
    _Magician’s World_
    Spell card
    _Reveal 1 Spell or Trap in your hand, choose 1 Spell or Trap from your Deck that has exactly 1 of the same Type (Normal, Continuous, Field, Equip, Quick-Play, Ritual, or Counter), and banish the revealed Spell/Trap from your hand face-down. Then add, from the Deck to your hand, 1 Spell/Trap that has exactly 1 of the same Type as the Spell/Trap chosen from your Deck, and banish the card chosen from the Deck face-down. You can only activate 1 "Magician’s World" per turn._

      Yeah you could use Harpies Dragon as bridge to harpie channeler as the only thing they share is attribute, wind. I don't think it'd be worth it in a Harpies deck tho, as I imagine most of the monsters you have won't make for a good bridge.

    Small World is actually a -2, since it banished both the monster from the hand AND from the deck. That's probably the one thing holding it back from becoming a staple since not all decks want to banish 2 monsters face-down.

    • @HowlingDoom
      @HowlingDoom 10 месяцев назад +1

      Nah, the banish 2 doesn't matter if it's able to give you a card you need. The main reason it doesn't see more play is the need for a bridge imo. Some cards have an easier time using monsters as a bridge like pile decks.

    Anyways, ignoring the "well, actually" part of this, it is a good example, and I'll try to remember this video if I ever need to explain the functionality of small world to someone.
    Or maybe just set up 3 spots in my binder with cards that form a bridge, that would also work.
