@@Murdoc_Niccals I can see how it will eventually run its course. I like CT’s channel because it really shows if you have the desire and drive you don’t have to be full time. The pros have driven the price of these restorations through the roof so that pushes people out of the market. We used to buy older cars in great shape for a couple grand. Now people are paying way beyond what used to be affordable. CT has found a way around it.

Hoi CT! when you have restored and painted the floor panels, do not cover them with the sound-absorbing tar sheets that are the same as the ones you removed: moisture creeps in and the sheet rusts without you noticing it.
Cover the floor panels with sound absorbing material that is not glued so that you can check the state of the panels whenever you want.👍😎

I though the plan was to get it running and flip it, but now you’ve got the body off and need to do the floor pans then just get it all the chassis done right while you have the access. You’ve done most of this on Rusty already so be methodical, get parts and follow a plan.
Also, get all the body work up to spec and sealed from the inside.. Oil the outside, keeping the patina and you will have a solid restored car with retro styling - will be amazing 👌🏻🇬🇧

Years ago, I restored a Malibu that the previous owner had driven for years with a leaking power steering pump. The result was every area on the underside of the car was a combination of PS fluid and road grime. I fashioned a sheet of heavy plastic under the car and shaped a sloped catch basin using heavy bricks and then stacked bricks on top of the foundation bricks to hold the plastic in place. I shaped a reservoir at the end of the plastic to catch the grime. I sprayed the engine compartment and entire underside of the car with a pump sprayer containing a cleaner, let set for an hour or so, occasionally spraying heavier grime areas again, and used a hose and spray head from a faucet and the grime all melted off. The grime was caught in the reservoir that was shaped so that the excess water ran over a small dam, leaving the sediment at the foot of the dam. After I gently drained the water out of the reservoir, I rolled up all the plastic sheet containing the grime and put it in the trash. This method kept the grime off my concrete driveway; I was very pleased with the outcome. Should have at least taken pictures but that was 15 or so years ago and sharing on RUclips was a new idea.

Hey, I like where you put the body. Get that harbor freight tarp out and cover it. That Florida UV will have the tarp gone in no time. Add some extra rope so it will look cool come February. Hey CT that Ghia has a split case Transaxle. That's not original for that car, they were made 57' to 1960. Just a friendly heads up before it causes you a headache. A little surface rust is nothing to worry about, replace the floor pans and the other wear items like master cylinder, brake lines and seals etc... If you get good quality floor pans it'll have the seat brackets and you can buy preformed brake line. Go over the other hard areas with a wire wheel or flapper disc and coat with rust encapsulator paint, new pan gasket and put it back together. Leave the the patina it's worth more and leaves the originality.

Those products are virtually identical to DynaMat, just less expensive. I used a different product for headliner padding, but did my entire interior with quick roof. You're going about this right CT. A restoration starts with a tear-down and examination to determine what is needed. Yes those floor pans are toast and need replaced. Don't let the naysayers get to you, just keep plugging along. I'm sure you will finish this one and the result will be awesome. Which will motivate you to finish more and make them awesome as well.

@@joshuapoche5137 Ummm, that was the dragon, not the Ghia, in the first restoration video on the Ghia he said he was going to get this one done first as it is the one he feels he can get finished fastest. Besides, I don't think CT truly thought the dragon was just going to be a simple get it running and road safe once he started getting into it. No older vehicle that has been sitting unmaintained for more than a few years is ever a simple get it running and drive it project, even if you got one from a desert area like where I live in So. Cal. there will still be enough problems with older cars that they typically need a full tear-down to do things like replace all the rubber components (seals, brake lines, fuel lines, body mounts etc.) as they'll be dry-rotted.

Why aren’t u soaking penetration oil on the bolts and nuts before removing them? How about some degreaser sprayed on the chassis and scrubbed before hosing it down?

You going to send the transmission out for rebuild? How about the rear axles? I hope you don't get overwhelmed with too many projects going at the same time. The frame and body work are going to require a lot of detail work. Looking forward to seeing you bring the old girl back to life.

  • @djambrosia

From the factory they used tack nails to fit the floorpan seals, so they are original.
I repaired my Ghia's floorpan but with the body completely off I would say replacing them would be the best option in your case.

New floor pans could have been done with the body on. Not as easy with the body off but doable. Cleaned the fuel system and a complete brake job and been driving it.

If those are “nails” that held the body seal, they have a twist, much like the carpet nails they used. You can’t find replacements for them, (without spending too much time and money), so save those.

Actually I have faith in the projects completion, but he must slow down with demolition and start to get more methodic. Too many things demolished at once make parts get lost and misplaced, take up a lot of space and cripple the running projects. I tried the many things at once concept with my tool building session, but it bit me in the arse.. It took a long time to get back on track... Anyway something is happening, which is to cheer about. =) He has to defeat some fears of welding and metal shaping, but I feel he's close...
