I do an ultra lazy variant for my banana bread: I sprinkle some cinnamon and brown sugar on top before I bake it. No mixing, no butter. The result is is about halfway between a streusel topping and the crunchy topping Ann's showing here. Quick bread batter is so much wetter than muffin batter, I'd be hesitant to throw more moisture (butter) into the equation.

"Easy vs Expert vs Insane" is a fantastic idea for a new series, Ann! And - no lie - the homemade definitely looked like the best tasting muffin of the three (and the one I'd be most likely to try myself). Store-bought always have that sickly-sweet, generic flavor to them and the glitter, edible or not, on the Insane version just seems... insane. Also, it's always more fun when the family's involved! Anne always gives full instructions for her recipes which I love! About the fancy muffin, It’s so annoyinng when people “give”you the recipe but omit some instructions, they just set people up for failure. Like couldn’t that chef just say to mix ingredients over heat to melt.

So glad to see you back, Ann! I hope you and your family have been well. This is a great new concept for your channel. Well done! I, myself, felt sort of common, since I think I'd like the home made blueberry muffin-- until I saw the teams' reaction. LOL! The third was not a blueberry muffin so, posh as it was, it didn't fulfill the brief. And all that trouble! No offense to the chef, but some people just love to make work for themselves... but tend to forget that pleasing the consumer is important, too. Style over substance. Tsk, tsk. Ah, well. Since I live in the "Blueberry Capitol of the World" (NJ, USA-- not sure the title is valid, though some say it is), I do love blueberry muffins. And they're so easy to make. I used to make a batch on a regular basis, just as part of breakfast. They never have a chance to get moldy around here.😉

Thank you for all your effort and the high quality of your videos! ♥️♥️♥️
I would have loved a fourth muffin here, i.e. a high class commercial, famous bakery or hotel recipe (e.g. the Ritz-Carlton muffins, NYT Cooking published the recipe), maybe with various layers of blueberry like fresh/preserve/powdered. The last one was a little out of the competition as it was a deconstructed dessert.
I am always so so happy when Dave gets to try something nice. 🥰😄

We used to buy the most delicious blueberry muffins. They had pear juice in them and it made them so moist, but not in the sticky way you mentioned. Can't get them anymore and I haven't had any other blueberry muffin that I've liked, so I'll deffo be giving your recipe a try. The frozen blueberries is such a smart idea too.

I can't believe I missed this video! But I love the concept, mainly because I think you could do loads of variations with what's first/second/third. The 'expert' one was great for referencing a specific person's recipe, plus with all the advanced technique involved

I have an idea for a video, which I'd love to see! Maybe you can post another video regarding garnishing, and maybe show your own style of garnishing a normal dish. I really loved the cheesecake one that you did before.
Or maybe, a family competition between all the Reardons? That would be so fun. 💕💕💕

I don't know if the preseevatives do anything to the body (in the quantity they use anyway, some regulations limit the use of additives to amounts that would only have side effects if you ate 100 muffins back-to-back).
But it definitely allows people to be lazy. The muffins don't have to be eaten immediately and obviously they won't keep fresh no matter what you add.
I would be more worried about the sugar. Maybe they abuse it because it's cheap but it's definitely the sure most unhealthy part of the muffin.

I second the mango recipe request!
Though this muffin recipe would work with firm chunks of mango instead of blueberries. I've made pineapple muffins and bread, and any firm fruit coated in flour probably works.

Honestly I love the store bought blueberry muffins😂like not because of the taste or anything but I have so many memories with blueberry muffins in high school. They have boxes of mini ones at coles and my friend would always bring them to school or have it when we hangout. And also our canteen sold blueberry muffins and I have so many memories sharing food with my friends.

Omg this reminded me that I used to love the boxed blueberry ones where the "blueberries" were like in little cubes and were not even real fruit. I think it was like Greens, and when my mum tried to make real ones I was like nah mate, I'm not into that 😂

Interesting to see how the packaging on the muffin is done differently to where I'm from. Here we also have it listed as "natural flavors" but we don't have anything listed as "thickeners" or "raising agents". It would usually just say what it is, even if you have no clue what it's actual function is.
I have a weak spot for a terrible store bought, processed blueberry muffin but making them at home is so much better for you!

That reminds me of the "experment" my coworkers in the office have to going every months of June: I grew up on a farm where my father has many different cherry trees. As soon we are in the middle of the cherry season I pick up three different cherry types. The big sweet one (one my parents sell as extra class - btw this type has the most sensitive fruits, they are the frist crop to waste when there is too much rain while they are ripe), the small one with the most flavour (the one our whole family uses for jam and other cherry recipes) and one in the middle in every thing (size, sweetness, flavour, ... The type which my parents sell normally in the shop).
The reactions from this cherry tasting are always so interesting. Often the people want only eat the really big beautiful type, but when they try the other types they are often surprised, that they are actually more their taste.
The whole set up the video reminded mebof that. People who know only the supermarket stuff will choose the best looking, but when they can taste they would choose the more tasteful ones.
