    the footwork is phenomenal - but the key point everyone seems to forget is - the base is not always in the middle of the court. Your base changes every time based on your own recovery, the shot you played, and when your opponent plays their shot. This is what he has mastered and his level of dedication is far greater then any other player
    If you see after he won the 2008 olympics - he does a salute. Why?
    He went enlisted himself in the national army to get himself physically fit for the tournament. He beat what many people called the 'best player' (LCW - who was really number 2 in the world all along)with ease

    why Lin Dan can just walk in doing footwork, because his Power push the shuttle to the rear end of the court, so he has enough time comeback to centre with walk, the key point of lin dan strength is HE CAN PLACE THE SHUTTLE TO THE BACK LINE COURT, ITS MAKES OPPONENT VERY DIFFICULT TO ATTACK, u can see lin dan placing is so accurate, always touch the back end line court, this give u time to reposition to the centre with walk

  • @thorzz2803

    Its called shuffling back to base, very similar to horse galloping. We use this when we want to be playing at a fast pace, but when you're trying to play slow and relaxed, you try not to use this and instead want to be using what Lin Dan is using which is the most basic footwork that is natural to how we move. This footwork is taught mostly to kids because their legs aren't strong enough to use the shuffle footwork.
    For Lin Dan to revert to using the "natural steps" footwork though, a lot is at play. First, he's pacing the game very well. He knows what shots to play to take away tempo from what the opponent wants. Two, he knows how to place strategically that minimizes the opponent's attacking option, thus making it easier for him to defend. Three, his reaction time and physical speed incase things go wrong is just above normal, thus he can still get away with his laid back playstyle.

  • @gamepurpose

    This is where the art of capture the moment of players. Showing Lin Dan walks on the safe shots. But other players on the shots of not making good safe shot. I believe all players not just high levels, when they make a good safe shots the walk will always follow. That just come in natural. Don't start a myth.

    Lin Dan uses no jump pace in current years when he saves energy to play longer at the price of less attack than before. Before changing his style in 2013 he jumped harder and further than most of the others, especially for the Olympic Final 2008.
    Also, his master skill is based on his smooth and fast pace. No one can make a good shot when he or she barely reaches the shuttle. Otherwise, most of the professionals can make that good shots if just standing there to catch. So the difference is the smooth and effective pace, which although looks slow, is actually very fast.
    I have an idea on his skill, which also based on the pace. After getting a good control on the shuttle, he will make a shot that most difficult to the opponent, loke the furthest point or the direction that requires extra body turning. Especially when he played with Lee Chong Wei in Rio, once Lee has turned a little bit to one corner of the backfield preparing for smash, he always lifted or pushed to the other corner.

      😍😍😍First, i would like to thank you for your comment here. Second, i so agree with you about the effective pace of LIN DAN movement that you said. Like you said LIN DAN is really fast because of his special footwork. I regconise that his footwork doesn't change much through years. What changes much is his playing style. To prove that, you could watch this video about LIN DAN's match VS TAUFIK in 2007. ruclips.net/video/ovg4xdYcfKY/видео.html

      @damingding2983 5 лет назад

      @@vhbadminton-savingtimebadm1192 Thx for replying and sharing the video. But I don't think that is a good example for our topic. In that game he was so controlled by Taufik that there was barely any chance to give a up-hand shot in the backfield except for a few low, up-hand, defensive clear. In a few cases when he could attack with quick smash, he jumped.
      A good example for my point is Olympic Final 2008 in which he got so many chances to give sudden attack to Lee Chong Wei. Then he jumped, much faster and further than Lee had expected. Even around 2011-103, Lin still jumped. Otherwise, there was no way to catch so many chances to smash.
      In another point of view, there may be only two reasons for Lin Dan to get more chances than others to give sudden attack/smash. (1) He has longer legs, or (2) he made bigger steps, mostly by jump.

    Badminton is so easy for lin dan is jsut because he forces his opponent to play less offensive shots and to make mistakes by PLAYING WISE SHOTS . he plays just in the GAP and never near his opponent ,that makes opponent to play wrong and often lin DAN just stays in one side of he court while his opponent is running all around the corners of court . He Does it just by PLAYING WISELY which majority of players lack like LEE CHONG WEI .LIN DAN Sticks to this strategy and always win the rally .

      I think that the uploader was trying to stress that Lin Dan's walk in the court(back to the base position) most of the time, where most players did was jump back pace. whether smashes, drop or clear, he walk most of the times in his plays. Unless when he's in trouble, he'll be forced to use jump pace footwork. Probably not many players play style are like Lin Dan, relaxing and the smooth pace is just nice to watch him play. He chose to use running steps like you said. And that running steps back to the center position really makes his footwork become smoothier. More over running step can save much energy than jumping back to the center. 😊😊😊😊😊

  • @putatdaun

    He walked not because he has a different foot steps, but rather because of his perfect shots and extreme reflex..thus allow him more time to move around the court calmly that appears like he just walk in the court..

      He is in control of the game, he doesn't need to rush to jump back to base.. but try watching his match with Lee Chong Wei.. he jumps back to base too ;)

    You are slightly incorrect in your analysis ,Due to becoming less agile,of course he is getting older, he just preferred to walk instead of jump back pace movement to save energy, evidently said by looking at his recent losses even against unseeded players.Otherwise,if you look at his earlier matches he is more vigour and stimulated in his movements.In my opinion ,in case of leg movement,Chen Long is the best ,looking more swift and stable.Although Lin Dan is GOAT because of his relentless calm and composureness during tough times in matches , which matters a lot in International arena.

    the foot work part is not true, he is playing passively, when he hit the shuttle, the shuttle is slight behind him, thats why just need to walk back to the center of the court
    If he is playing "attack", the shuttle will be in front of him, then he need more energy to get back to the center

    • @vhbadminton-savingtimebadm1192
      @vhbadminton-savingtimebadm1192  5 лет назад +1

      Yes my friend! When he attacks, he still walks but in a faster way than he plays clear shots or defense shots. That's definitely his playing style and his trademark footwork.

  • @hoangle8030

    I don't think your assessment in this video is correct. Lindan walks back when he placed a clear shot, which gives him much more time to "walk" back to base. @4:33, he placed a drop shot from his back forehand corner, he has to "pace jump" back to base to cover the drive to the other corners. Imho, the reason Lindan is so successful because he's really studied the game. He has every possible footwork and hand placements to cover the attacking shot, and his deceptions is superb. His deception is the key to slow down the opponent reaction. That's why he did so well against speed player like LCW and Ginting

    Bro you have just showed the rallies in which he is walking back to the centre but in the reality even Lin Dan runs back to the centre .... that's the basic technique to keep momentum using motion force and saving energy ......and yeah if you're talking about one unique technique of Lin Dan that's he doesn't go to the back court at all ....I mean you will hardly see Lin Dan going past back lobby .....he will jump mostly but that is cause of his experience , anticipation and talent

    • @mingxuanbenedictteo8487
      @mingxuanbenedictteo8487 5 лет назад +1

      I think when you fold your leg you stay in the air longer cause it raise your center of gravity

    • @beli3ver
      @beli3ver 4 года назад

      You get more stability but less reaction time, hence if you have mastered the smash and it's timing, you take a jump with legs folded to fully execute the smash with maximum power
