If you're curious about the second shoulder Vulcan gun, in Gundam: The Origin the Gundam gets an upgrade while in Jaburo. This upgrade included the Core Fighter, new shoulder thrusters, and a second Vulcan gun that replaced the one on the left shoulder. Actually, the Gundam gets a total of TWO upgrades in the manga. The final one adds more thrusters and the famous Magnetic Coating Joints to better react to Amuro's awakened Newtype powers.
@@NelsonFilmsStudio The Unicorn is not a starter kit, if you're new try buying easier kits to build to have practice than after that move on to harder ones like the Unicorn
I just started building this kit. I love it so far. The head is SO COOL. And I love how the ab crunch clicks into place locking you your specific crunch to help maintain your pose. That mechanic is SO HYPE! People who complain about the constant rereleases of the RX-78 fail to understand how much raw engineering is added to every single kit! I will be posting a timelapse on my channel!
I want to thank you for pointing out the solid yellow eye piece on this kit, i was worried with my old eyes(50 yrs old) to trying to deal with those decals on the eyes.
I like how you emphasized the stress marks and brittleness of some aspects of the model. You did this in your V2 MG review too. A lot of reviewers (and the general trend for the modelkit target audience) is to want for more articulation and details, but what they don't realise is that more moving parts and articulation gimmicks means less durability in general. So it was good how you talked about the hip joint. Reminds me of the MG Destiny's hips and how I wished it was just a normal peg lol.
just finished mine and so true about the brittleness and stress marks. some of the moving parts are very tight (resulting in white stress marks) had to lube some areas to avoid future damages. did cracked the shoulder while trying to mount the right arm. other than that, the kit is very good. nice details, and loving the looks :)
I don't know if this has been said but, that weird shaped part grey part under the window in the shield is an extra handle that the gundam can use to hold the shield upside-down like in the anime. Love this gundam tho never hade any issues with it yet
Hey Zak, the reason the kit comes with two Gatling Guns (Blue and Yellow) is because the Yellow is how the Gatling Gun appears in the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin Manga (See the cover of Volume 1 for reference) and the Blue is supposed to be for people who prefer a more Anime-Accurate look. Although i wish they included a Yellow V-Fin for this. Since it features that in the Manga.
For the grey part on the shield with the screw details, I think it is used for stacking two shields together. Imagine you had another shield and plug the long end of the screws into the holes not from the inside but the outside, then with a shield installed like you did here 25:26, the shorter screws of the shield with the grey parts installed inside should be able to go on top of the same grey part installed in the other direction. Unfortunately, I don't have two kits myself that I couldn't try it out, but this is the best guess I can give.
After checking the manual, the description on page 5 about the Gatling gun on the chest (part B 46 and A19/A32) says: Use whichever. one you prefer and also kindly labels that A19 is yellow and A32 is blue. Hope that answers your question at 5:40 of this video. :-)
Had to come back and comment on this video. Recently finished snapping this kit together. I love it. It's my first MG. I bought the special version. Only differences are the box art, it includes 2 led lights and a pretty cool poster of the Gundam's blueprint.
I had an amazing stroke of luck today. I managed to buy this kit online for only $8.79. Even if the gundam itself is fragile, it'll still be worth it for my first MG kit.
I think this is the first master grade that I got (though I could be wrong since I got the Crossbone around the same time) and I absolutely love it. That said another version of this Gundam that I have that I also highly recommend is the Rx-78-02 One Year War version. It has an absolutely pitiful range for the splits, but other than that it is fantastic. One of my favorite features about the kit is that the inner leg frame is more or less one piece and has little working plastic pistons. It is such a small feature but I really love it. Also the Beam Saber blades have a slight curve to them which is nice since I have the origin version and the 1/144 revive version of the RX-78-02 and they both have straight blades.
great review! i used to build sd and hg and now im moving to mg. i want to start my mg collection with the rx78 and i really like the ver. 3.0 design but after watched this review I think this one is also good. what should i pick, this one or the ver. 3.0 ? thanks.
that plastic bandai uses for the frame are stretchy type of plastic even after having stress it stays durable and didnt seems to break eventually compare to normal plastic.means that material is created to have stress as plastic undergo certain pressures.it goes white but it wont break as long as u are careful.
Zak, how do you get the hands to articulate all the way? The fingers pop out on mine when I try to bend at the first knuckle. This is my first MG, so I don't know how the hands work yet.
Apply clear nail polish or super glue to the joints to make them tighter. DO NOT STICK THEM TOGETHER just wait for them to dry completely and then put them in.
I watched this review a lot of tijes and, after getting the kit for Christmas, I still love it. The sad thing is that the left hand, the first I tried to use, became a real pain. Two fo the fingers came out and are now very loose, and the ball supposed to attach onto the arm also came out, so it's really difficult to rotate Tha hand without any problem. But after all it's a really nice kit and your review helped me a lot, as every video you make Zak. Keep up the good work! 😉
Great review! I'm looking forward to building this! As for your question about the yellow gatling gun piece, it's one of the more iconic parts of the manga design. What's interesting about this MG design is rather than being a straight up adaptation of the manga RX-78, it seems to remove the more outlandish elements (like the weird 5 thruster backpack) in favour of traditional ones whilst retaining the iconic parts of the manga design (like the other Beam Rifle, cannon, upside down shield, etc.) - a sort of compromise between the manga version and the original anime version we are all used too. Which basically sums up the anime adaptation of The Origin as well! I wonder if we will see this in the OVA?
i thought this kit was very boring to build cuz of the small amount of plates. . . But im surprise of the build process, and the articulation was very good and new. . . . Thumbs up for this kit !!! :-D
i think the gimmick on the shield, the top peice is meant to be used as the handle when he's holding the shield upside down. that way you won't have to remove the handle.
The orgins version of the gundam rx-78-2 is the definitive version for me I have had this kit since it came out and still think it's one of if not the best version out there
+Francis Nodora That's just up to you, go for whichever design you like more! The Unicorn can be a little more tricky to work with, but if you prefer the design then you'll enjoy it fine!
Hello sir. i'm new in building gunpla. Some people at my placr told me, RX 78-2 Origin doesn't have a Core Fighter. Can you verify this. Please. Thank you.
heard the 3.0 looks nice but you know, kinda loose and kinda hand granade-ish? is that true? is the origin a beter kit? cuz i like the 3.0 look but not sure with that wonkyness
Just finished this kit last week, The build was so fun! Got me back into MGs. Now i'm trying to decide what to build next, it's a 3 way tie between A Zaku II 2.0, the Hiyaku-Shiki 2.0 and the Unicorn Gundam OVA ver. Any recommendation on which one Zac? it would be my 3rd MG
In terms of MG for the RX-78-2 which would you recommend as your favorite or rather the best version of the kit? I’m stuck between this one and the 3.0 myself.
I haven’t built the 3.0, but every reviewer I watch says this one is better than that. I’m about to build it too to replace my 2.0 which was a very anime accurate kit, but it’s just bland next to the RG.
+ZakuAurelius that's a cool looking kit. besides this kit what are some other Master Grades you would recommend? i want to try one but i'm not sure where to start.
depends on how you define "better." this kit comes with a second different beam rifle and a few effect parts. both kits are pretty matched in terms of articulation. the 3.0 has a bit more detail and part separation.
Sorry I ask a very vague question. Thank you for answering man! Basically for you how was owning the origin different from v 3.0, in terms of poss-ability and overall design.
I love the kit it exceeded my expectations but the only problem I have is the pinky on the right likes to fall off easy this is my first time using hands like these overall they're good but I hate how the fingers come off
white tab on bazooka is a carrying handle for when the weapon isn't holstered and being carried on hand. Not really practical for gunpla, but it can be nice when you're lugging 60+ pounds of weight irl
I like the design of this kit. I think the second beam rifle reminds me more of the beam rifle that comes with the RX-77-2 Guncannon from 2001. This kit is now on my list of kits to obtain after the G04, G05, Full Armor and G Fighter versions, lol.
That shield part seems like it's part of a transformation like the RE-GZ or it could be storage for the hyper bazooka or ammo. No idea just some speculation.
So if someone has never built an RX-78-2 and wants to build a MG one to put on his shelf would you recommend the 3.0 or The Origin? As a gundam fan I always feels like my collection is lacking since it doesn't have a MG of the OG Gundam.
get the one you like the most. there are a bunch of mg rx-78-2 designs available. my ranking based on my liking: 1. origins, 2. PS/anime version, 3. 3.0 version
+Forgey I don't think so~ But that is a good point, I didn't notice any way to attach the shield to the backpack. That's usually always a part of the RX-78-2 design.
ZakuAurelius I saw that part had moved slightly in the video and noticed that it was a slightly different color than the rest of the backpack. I was surprised you missed it.
The second rifle reminds me of the Zaku II "Zaku Machinegun" at the handle. I like this...it's an interesting change!! The shield mechanics seem annoying, though...I think that I'll stick to the RX78 Gundam ver.Ka and the RX78/C.A for my MG iterations. And that second effect part...I thought that was for the Vulcan cannons on the head. D'oh!!
After more than 11 years i recently ordered a few more MG kits. This one among them. Very nice articulation, though after building the Sazabi first, this one looks like a midget :D
+ZakuAurelius thanks man. But the the problem is that it is a rg aile strike and I already put them on . so would there still be some shine in it.....would it still look nice
I somehow managed to bust the pointer finger of the left hand off of mine -.- The mid-knuckle will not stay in now. I dont suppose anyone could hook me up with a spare left hand for this guy?
Ok all you have to do is paint the ball that goes in the ball socket and it should be a tight fit. Make sure you dont put too much though or it wont fit in!!! Good luck 🍀👍
I nabbed this kit and the right hand literally fell apart--the fingers popped out extremely easily even though I was being careful with the hand. The rest of the kit's been quite durable, and the left hand for some crazy reason came out fine. No idea why it happened. Even so the kit looks great, so I can't fault it too much despite lacking the old reliable pre-molded hands (which I wish it came with, but not all MGs really get them, I understand). Gonna order some spare ms hands, hoping I can get a decent deal on some.
Lol, so many people have asked this! I haven't built the 3.0 but I've heard it's a great kit. So it depends on which design you like more. Personally I prefer this one- amazing articulation, cool effect parts, awesome new weapons.
It would be!! I hope it would be like the manga version with the back mounted ammo drum for the machine gun, and the various small guns on the arms/body. Although an Ortega type with massive heat hawk would be equally dope.
Why you so sure? Though I shoul say that so many pieces of armor like in 3.0 and rg didn't play so well for me because they sit loose and falling off. Do you have rg version or origin only? I need some kind of review-opinion
I can never decide which RX-78-2 to buy because there are so many versions. I was leaning more towards the RG since the MG 3.0 is just a larger version of the RG just with more problems. However, I might just bite the bullet and buy this kit a few months for now.
bunnyfreakz I've heard mix reviews because of the extra gimmicks. I ended up pre-ordering the Origin version since the store I buy my kits from had a 30% off sale on kits.
+Mr Zark I just want to confirm that you do get only one white cover part, so one of the arms will always have the vulcan part. I ended up keeping both vulcans on mine just because I think it looks better with both.
I have so many stress mark in many place on the inner frame from just building it anybody have the same problems? The one I worry the most is the stress mark on the hip joint and that's make worry to pose this kit
cool kit, nice review... just one question, can you attach the 2.0's napalm addon to origin's classic beam rifle? I plan to use 2.0's gundam hammer and beam javelin to complete the origin's arsenal...
+Tommy John Alamon Good question! I'm honestly not sure, I haven't seen any info on that and I don't have a 2.0 kit to try it. Sorry! But if it comes down to it you could always modify it to work!
+ZakuAurelius thanks for the quick reply... i have 2 2.0s (i have customized the other one in rx-78-1 prototype gundam colors) and i'll probably get this one maybe on the weekend. i just needed some opinions whether origin is worth it (thanks to your review). it just seem the origin kit is a much better option rather than the 3.0 kit to be a successor to the 2.0 kit. anyway thanks for the review and keep it up!!!
If you're curious about the second shoulder Vulcan gun, in Gundam: The Origin the Gundam gets an upgrade while in Jaburo. +cornman25 I haven't built the 3.0, so I can't say for sure. But I would guess that this is more solid, only because it has less moving armor pieces.
+ZakuAurelius That makes sense. I'm still deciding which to get between the two. Thanks
This kit is way better than I expected, thanks for the review! :))
You're welcome!
+ZakuAurelius :)
I'm not so sure but I'm assuming the switching pegs on the shield will let you hang it on the backpack, where the beamsabers go
+Forgey I don't think so~ But that is a good point, I didn't notice any way to attach the shield to the backpack. That's usually always a part of the RX-78-2 design.
+ZakuAurelius the middle part on the backpack doesn't spin around to reveal a peg hole for the shield like on the 3.0?
+Jango The Blue Fox Actually, yes! That's correct. Sorry. I just check it now, you can turn that piece around on the backpack to reveal a peg hole.
ZakuAurelius
I saw that part had moved slightly in the video and noticed that it was a slightly different color than the rest of the backpack. I was surprised you missed it.
+Jango The Blue Fox Too many things to remember to talk about! Haha
A few of the finger tips on mine fell off, how do you recommend reattaching them?
Get some fixed pose hands and then you don’t need to worry about it!
ZakuAurelius
What are fixed pose hands? Do they look similar to the ones already on the Gundam?
@@TrelarysVT yeah try the HD Builders Parts 1/100 scale hands.
ZakuAurelius
Do I need to color them?
The second rifle reminds me of the Zaku II "Zaku Machinegun" at the handle. I like this...it's an interesting change!! The shield mechanics seem annoying, though...I think that I'll stick to the RX78 Gundam ver.Ka and the RX78/C.A for my MG iterations. And that second effect part...I thought that was for the Vulcan cannons on the head. D'oh!!
Too bad they didn't include two of the effect parts for each of the arm mounted Vulcans
After more than 11 years i recently ordered a few more MG kits. This one among them. Very nice articulation, though after building the Sazabi first, this one looks like a midget :D
You obviously haven’t built. F91, Victory or Crossbones.
This gundam did have a core fighter in the manga but only until they got to jaburo where it was modified and had the core fighter installed
what if you lost the gold eye stickers
You-ka comics aka-chan shinobi get some gold paint!
ZakuAurelius one problem how would you go about that since there are holes in the eyes or did i miss something
ZakuAurelius also are previous rx 78 2 sheild attachment parts compatible since my ones close to snapping
when top coating . will foil stickers lose their shine completely ?
I'm a beginner
+Jeremy Dias That's right. So you may want to wait until after topcoating to put on your foil stickers. Or paint those areas as well.
+ZakuAurelius thanks man. But the the problem is that it is a rg aile strike and I already put them on . so would there still be some shine in it.....would it still look nice
+Jeremy Dias I'm using matte finish
With the SEED kits I always figure they should be given a gloss or semi gloss finish, since the Gundams's have phase shift armor.
How do i get the LED unit?
I somehow managed to bust the pointer finger of the left hand off of mine -.- The mid-knuckle will not stay in now.
I dont suppose anyone could hook me up with a spare left hand for this guy?
Ok all you have to do is paint the ball that goes in the ball socket and it should be a tight fit. Make sure you dont put too much though or it wont fit in!!! Good luck 🍀👍
I did the same to my left hand pinkie. I did actually manage to get the pegs back together, bit it is very loose now.
I just read the manga version of the origin and the gatling on the right chest is colored yellow
Hi. I know it's been six years since you left this comment. I've also had problems with the hands in this kit. I had to order spares.
which one is better compared with the 3.0??
Lol, so many people have asked this! I haven't built the 3.0 but I've heard it's a great kit. So it depends on which design you like more. Personally I prefer this one- amazing articulation, cool effect parts, awesome new weapons.
+ZakuAurelius well having the 3.0 I was really dissapointed the fingers were my biggest problem the also hip guards popping of
I needed this kit as a base for a resin kit I'm working on soon, and now I'm upset I'll have to buy a second one just to keep as the base kit 😭
I welcome the origin MG, this gives me hope that a we will get an origin ver. of the the zaku
+fuzzyhawk down More MG kits from The Origin would be amazing!
It would be!! I hope it would be like the manga version with the back mounted ammo drum for the machine gun, and the various small guns on the arms/body. Although an Ortega type with massive heat hawk would be equally dope.
does this have a core fighter
I want this kit so much!
+иван объедков Get one!
This version or 3.0?
I can't decide yet.
+иван объедков Origin my man.
Why you so sure? Though I shoul say that so many pieces of armor like in 3.0 and rg didn't play so well for me because they sit loose and falling off. Do you have rg version or origin only? I need some kind of review-opinion
+иван объедков get the one you like the most. both have lots of parts but visually, I like this version better than 3.0
Does the inner frame the same as the 3.0 version?
+The Pharmacist No, it's an all new frame, with a few parts from the 2.0
We need more MG origin kits
I can never decide which RX-78-2 to buy because there are so many versions. I was leaning more towards the RG since the MG 3.0 is just a larger version of the RG just with more problems. However, I might just bite the bullet and buy this kit a few months for now.
+Mr Zark MG 3.0 is solid kit. MG Origin as well
bunnyfreakz I've heard mix reviews because of the extra gimmicks.
+Mr Zark I think it only came with one!
ZakuAurelius Right. I was confirming that you only do get one. Sorry for not being clear about it.
The shoulder joints that connect inside to the body broke on me. That really sucks.
