Thank you so much! I had cut the fabric and tried to make the star with another RUclips tutorial and was in tears as I could not figure it out. Your step by step instruction, in particular, the box set up was what made a difference for me! I really appreciate it as I plan to make at least 10 of these stars this year as part of Christmas gifts!
Check out the Moldavan star which starts the same way but with nearly 50% longer srrios which are used to make 3D points, 4 on the front and another 4 on the back. Not so easy to store but can you can use paper or ribbon, even florist ribbon, for both. There's even a sewn one that used quilting methods to stitch shapes together but I only found part 3 where she was assembling the star slowly. Now that Chrustmas has just past, I've hit a rich vein of Chrustmas crafts on RUclips!
I just discovered this - best tutorial for deficiet depth perception like I have - I do this over and over and over and over. . . . muscle memory is intact thanks to you !
Thank You, Christine! I haven't made any since last year. I should probably review my video again to remind myself how to make them! LOL. Happy Holidays! Michael
Agree. Yours is the 3rd video I have checked out on how to make these, and yours is the only one I can follow. I hope to make some with the kiddies in the extended family as a Christmas craft this year. Thank you for the video!
Ok who is old enough to remember making these with gum wrappers? Lol we use to do this as kids. We would save the foil and paper wrappers from stick gum and make stars and Jacob ladder bracelets. Now we are doing it with fabric. Really cool. Great instructions.👍
November 2024. I’m back to review before I start on this year’s stars. Used your video last year and had great success. (I do recommend spray starch at the beginning when ironing the strips.)
After watching 6 videos covering star making, I can definitely say this is the best. TIPS TO PEOPLE WANTING TO MAKE STARS……The starch, the ironing and the glue are keys to success. Also, when ironing the strips, make sure the edges are exact. The clips or clothespins are necessary when assembling. Thank you.
Finally!! I understand this folding technique. Thank you so much for such a clear explanation and demonstration of how to do this. I plan to make more and use them to decorate my tree. A nice, safe ornament for my kitty in case he wants to turn it into a toy.
I've been watching videos all morning trying to make this star. Yours is very easy to follow and is the only one that didn't make me scream obscenities at my computer screen. THANK YOU !!!
OK! I watched your video, loved it, tried another one. CAME BACK TO THIS ONE!!! Way more satisfied with your method than the other one. Instead of putting ‘the whole one’ through in the first place, they separated them. THIS is BEST! Thx very much! Merry Christmas!
With the help of your unrushed, methodical instruction, I successfully made a beautiful star. Instead of using spray starch, I used a glue stick in the folds. It worked really well.
I have watched several other video tutorials describing the process for making these Scandinavian Stars. Your video is by far the Best in terms of slowly explaining the entire process. However, I will most likely rewind your video to watch but, yet a few more times to fully immerse myself in the correct process. I am new to your channel & look forward to watching your other video tutorials on quilt making. Thank you.
Greetings from Australia. Just found you and subscribed. You are a great teacher, clear and concise and I think I could make this now. I watched other videos and they did my head in! Much appreciated.
I concur with the others, good instruction ; very easy to follow along. I've made 2. Enjoying making these as I can just sit at dining room table and voila!
I have now made 15 for gifts to put inside my Christmas cards, your tutorial is sooo much easier then the others i watched so thank you for a great tutorial .
Fabulous instructions, Thank You. I’ve searched on YT for these and no one has given the detail tutorial like you! Best part, you understand the camera has to be behind you towards work area. Otherwise if filmed in front it would be a mirror reverse image and confusing. Tks, mine came out Beautiful👍
Hi Michael Just want to thank you for the great explanation on making the folded star. Great detail and thoughtfully explained so I could understand it easily. I was frustrated trying to follow other channels, but I understood your directions easily!! Thanks so much.
Honestly this is the best tutorial for these fabric stars. I made a few last year and am on 18/25 for this year so far. Your explanation of the set up is perfect and easy to follow. This is my new ‘go to’ video for these
Hi Michael, This is the best fabric star ornament video I've seen. Great demonstration! You are a born teacher! I've made two so far, very easily. I used 15 inches by 4 inches and the overhang was one inch. Worked a treat! Thank you so much!
Zowie, my 2nd video of several and you are fantastic at explaining the process. I don't have startch so i am going to make without. Hopefully they will turn out well. Thank you so much👏👏👏
I love your fabric choices. The coordinated prints add a dimensional interest that I find very appealing. Thank you for showing us how to do this ourselves.
Thank you so much, Michael. You are a great teacher. I tried a few others on youtube when attempting this star, and I got so frustrated and teary it was sad. . I will be following your quilting etc. Videos from now on. I have made 3 Christmas stars so far thanks to your patient teaching method.
This ornament is going to be the star in 2022! Thank you so much for the video! Your explanations on this fun project works for my brain! Excellent instructions!
I watched 3 other tutorials & just couldn’t follow along because it was too fast & details that u included, they did not. I am a retired elementary school art teacher, and I commend you on this presentation. I am so excited that now I am finally successfully making stars 😀. Thanks!
I loved how you taught this. I tried to watch other videos from other quilt company's and they left steps out. So I just subsribed to you! I am a quilter also.
Glad I found you. This is the fourth video I’ve watch to learn how to make these stars. Yours is the best!! I feel comfortable doing this craft now!! Thanks for sharing your gift of teaching with us. 😁
I suspect I am simply dumb, but I watched a different video about how to make these stars, and mine came out terrible. Thank you for taking it slow and making things clear. I don't have it down yet, but at least I know where I went wrong before. 🙂
Thank you--I have watched many of the videos for this ornament--yours is by far the easiest to follow and understand! I have subscribed to yours, and will check out other videos you have done! Happy holidays to you!
OMG, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've watched other videos and just couldn't get IT! How you did the box formation made it so much MORE clearer to understand. Definitely will be subscribing to your channel 👌🏽. Holidays to you and yours.
Thank you for the nice video. However, you did not mention the folded edge and the two fold edge side of the strip. I presume it has to have the 2 fold edge toward the center.
Good point! I probably was not even thinking about it when I filmed this a few years ago. I see that some of mine that I have made are not consistent, but if I were to film this again, I would probably put the double folds facing inside as I arrange the strips into the square "hashtag" formation. However, the final product really looks fine however they land - perhaps more professional looking though if you are mindful of that fold. Good tip! Thank You!
It doesn't make a difference how you start with them. In the video I see that mine are not all consistent. What you will find when you are finished is that the star points all have a double fold on the inside, no matter how you start and the outside of the star points do not have a fold.
OMGOSH you are the 5th video i watched for this simple beautiful craft. YOU are the first one to make it crystal clear!! Thank you.
Yay! Glad this one worked for you!
So glad the video was of help to you! Happy Holidays!
I agree. I tried two other tutorials and I was so frustrated but this was the BEST. I keep referring back to Michael's tutorial.
Check out the Moldavan star which starts the same way but with nearly 50% longer srrios which are used to make 3D points, 4 on the front and another 4 on the back. Not so easy to store but can you can use paper or ribbon, even florist ribbon, for both.

Clear, concise directions. I'm a visual learner and very much appreciate your post!
I made so many of these last year. Kept your video and reviewing in 2023 to remember how to do them. Thanks again this year for a great video.
I just discovered this - best tutorial for deficiet depth perception like I have - I do this over and over and over and over. . . . muscle memory is intact thanks to you !
Hi Pam! I am so glad this one worked for you! hope you are making lots of them! Happy Holidays!
Actually yours is the best one out there. Love how well you explain each step. I got it!
Thank You, Christine! I haven't made any since last year. I should probably review my video again to remind myself how to make them! LOL.
Happy Holidays!

I totally agree! I’ve watched two other videos and your video was the only one I could understand. Great teaching!
I agree with everyone here. Others were very confusing.
Watched all the videos about this project and just didn't get it. Your video is awesome and now just 99 stars to go! Thanks for the great directions.
Glad the video helped!
Ok who is old enough to remember making these with gum wrappers? Lol we use to do this as kids. We would save the foil and paper wrappers from stick gum and make stars and Jacob ladder bracelets. Now we are doing it with fabric. Really cool. Great instructions.👍
I wish I had seen this first. Directions are clear and concise. I spent an hour trying to figure out other star directions. Thank you! Thank you!!
Glad it helped!!

Your welcome. Glad it makes sense. Happy Holidays!
November 2024. I’m back to review before I start on this year’s stars. Used your video last year and had great success. (I do recommend spray starch at the beginning when ironing the strips.)

Oh yes - putting them on gifts is a great idea!
With the help of your unrushed, methodical instruction, I successfully made a beautiful star. Instead of using spray starch, I used a glue stick in the folds. It worked really well.

Excellent!
Thank you!
I'm more of a wonky star person, what if you made some of the points longer then others? I think I'll try it. Thank you for your demo, great job.
That sounds like fun! Let me know if you figure out a way to make that work!
Thank you.
Thank You!
Where is the lengthwise fold...on the inside of the box or the outside?
It doesn't make a difference how you start with them. In the video I see that mine are not all consistent. What you will find when you are finished is that the star points all have a double fold on the inside, no matter how you start and the outside of the star points do not have a fold.
