Suffering is part of Mets fandom and unfortunately has to be embraced along with the couple of good years a decade as your dad pointed out. Love the pod ladies and LFGM!
Your Dad was awesome Ashley! He really spoke for a lot of Mets fans! The fact that he started his love of the Mets in 1979, which I believe was the worst team they ever had , is tribute to him! To put that into Perspective, they had to win the last 6 games of the season to avoid a 100 loss year! The most perfect line was when your dad said “ Shea was a dump, but it was my dump.” I have said that same thing so many times. He really described the experience of being a Mets Fan in our era! Looking forward to hearing from your Dad Samantha! “FOUR IN A ROW, HERE WE GO!” .
I was born in 1962, so I feel his pain. My grandfather was a New York Giants(baseball) fan. When the Giants(and Dodgers) moved west, he and my father hated the Yankees and waited for Bill Shea's new team to be born in 1962, as did I, and I became a Mets fan.
My favorite Mets related joke is a story from their early days of futility in which a fan called a local newspaper and asked whether the Mets had won their game that day. The person answering the call replied that the Mets had scored 19 runs. The response from the fan was: Alright, but did they win?😆🤣
@@WhyMetsPod Baseball is filled with great stories and humorous ones. Like when Len Barker pitched a perfect game for the then Cleveland Indians in 1981. After the game, his 93 year old grandmother was quoted as saying : "I'm so proud of him. I hope he does better next time."😆🤣
Wishing a very happy Father's Day to Rich Wenskoski and all fathers. To quote Ralph Kiner: “On this special Fathers Day, we'd like to wish all of you a very Happy Birthday.”😆
@@WhyMetsPod Happy to hear that. My Dad passed away in 12/19, so it is always especially nice to wish the Dads who are still with us a wonderful Father's Day.🙌
Just 50 yrs? I 've been a METS' fan since 1965 and that's way over 50 yrs. So I really know what suffering is as a METS' fan. I coild still re.ember players like JOE CHRISTOPHER, JOHNNY LEWEIS, , ROY McMILLAN, JERRY BUSCHEK, RON HUNT, pitchers DON SHAW and BOB SHAW, a young JIM HICKMAN among othets.
My dad introduced me to Joe Torre in the Shea parking lot when he was the Mets manager & now my 7YO want to play for the Mets "to help make them good." Fun episode; great job.

Had Tickets to see Journey in concert at Meadowlands on Sunday Oct 26.., after Saturdays game.. I was like “ I’m not going to Journey, I need to watch the Mets”.. then game 7 is rained out.. so I go to the concert and the Mets win Monday! Ask ur Dad if he was at the concert? 😉
Yes....I remember 1988 against the Dodgers very well. I was 14 years old, and I remember being very annoyed because I thought LaSorda was using Hershiser WAAYYY too much. He was using him in almost every game.....if he wasn't the starter, he was being brought in from the bullpen. Hershiser was on fire at that point of the season, and we just couldn't hit him. I wonder if your dad thought that too.
Without looking the 4 people that he mentioned they got for Seaver I believe were Pat Zachary, Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson and ??? Also a long suffering Mets fan of 60 years or so. Going back to the Loopenark days. Kranepool spelled backwards
@@philipgior3312 Thank you very much. Would never have gotten that one without researching it. Name doesn't even sound familiar. I do remember Henderson hitting a walk-off I believe to win a crazy come from behind game but except for that really bad times. And even with Gooden at his best in 85 still have Seaver as #1
@@haroldbedney7532 Actually the 3 players you mentioned did have some value - Henderson a pretty respectable hitter. Zachry a decent young pitcher (I think injury may have derailed his career a bit), and Flynn a gold glover at 2B (couldn't hit a lick though) - But for Seaver??? The Franchise??? Come on...That was a sad day in Metville.
@@philipgior3312 I know Zachary and Flynn were the meat of the deal and Seaver and Grant were not on speaking terms at the time for a while but I also remember Henderson being a very serviceable outfielder. And I still remember the press conference, Seaver being in tears
Being born in 1962, I was too young to appreciate the 1969 team, but I was all in for the 1971 season and got to enjoy the 1973 World Series. They were AWFUL in the late '70s and early '80s. Not until they got Keith, Gooden, etc. and the mid-80s were great, including the '86 World Series win and the 1988 division win. 1991-1996 they were horrible. 1997-2001 were good years with Bobby Valentine, Piazza, etc. and the 2000 World Series. Bad for 2002-2004, then got good with Willie Randolph, Beltran, etc. from 2005-2008. Terrible from 2009-2014, then World series in 2015 and up and down since with 2 brief playoff appearances in 2016 & 2022.

He really appreciates it and read all of these comments! Thank you so much for listening
In the 80's the METS started to become a power house because they had the best GM in METS ' history, FRANK CASHEN.

I can relate with Rich.

2015 World Series + 16 =
2031?

I've been a fan since 1962 -they were really bad in the sixties until 1967-1968 season- the team started to jell.
This is very funny
