Sadly for the 3DS games no such exploit has been found yet and you'd have to hack your 3DS to do these kinds of things.

7:45 "[I] got Emerald version and had Sapphire as well and wanted to get a zangoose, just to learn that zangoose is only in Ruby and not Sapphire or Emerald." You just transported me back ~15 years to when I was trying to fill out my Gen 3 Pokédex as legitimately as I could. In the end a mate with an Action Replay hacked in the stuff I couldn't get, and probably some other stuff like the Johto starters I didn't feel like playing through Emerald two more times for (only Nintendo consoles our household had were the handheld ones so no Gamecube pokémon).
Crazy timing for this video. I just completed the emerald national dex using only ruby, sapphire, emerald, leaf green, and fire red. The only pokemon i couldnt obtain were mew, ho-oh, lugia, celebi, the two johto starts i didnt choose, jirachi, and deoxys. Out of these, only the johto starters and ho-oh/lugia count toward the national dex, so i had to learn ACE to glitch in the mystery gifts and respawn the johto starter event. Definitely possible to complete the national dex without the gamecube, but its in no way simple
You can get the mystery gift items to travel to all islands, as if it was 2006, TODAY. You can even get jirachi and celebi from the bonus discs. And the best part is that you can do all this almost for free. As long as you have a NDS/NDSlite + an R4, to backup your save files, with some google-ing and your imagination you can do it😁
I was actually just told about LI Retro Gaming Con by one of the workers when I was at Anime NYC recently, he overheard me talking about my gen 3 living dex and mentioned how they run the events down there, definitely gonna have to check it out next year
Hey, I was also at LIRetro and didn't realize you were there at the time until I went through photos! Awesome to see everyone and I'm so happy with my funfest medals!
I completed my Gen 3 Pokedex recently and MAN was that a whole task - Purified all the shadow mon in Colosseum (Japanese) - Got Ho-oh from Colosseum - Japanese Colosseum Bonus Disc for Celebi - Bought Japanese Ruby to get previously mentioned Celebi and get gen 3 starter pokemon - American Bonus Disc for Jirachi - Playthrough and caught all the Mons in Emerald (USA) - Traded the Deoxys and other mon I had in my old Fire Red copy - Playthrough Leaf Green for the gen 1 starter and other mon that I did not have in Fire Red - Playthrough XD for Lunatone and Lugia - Bought Japanese Emerald which had Old Sea Chart so I could get Mew - And finally I used Pokemon Box to transfer things more easily with the American games (I had to use link cable and two gbas to move the Japanese Pokemon into my English Emerald)
Sounds like quite the experience. I’m doing something similar myself. Currently finishing up XD. I skipped gen 3 back in the day so this was a fun experience
I remember when i was like in middle school (so like around 2009), i had Ruby, Fire Red and Colosseum, and somehow with trades from school got all of those exclusives and event pokemon. at the end, i just needed like Azurill in Ruby, but the game stopped working, and still have it stored
i actually just did this (and transferred from emerald to HG to black2 this morning lol) brutal process, but childhood me is proud! (I did an emerald living dex, not gen 1 or 2 though. I cant justify buying pokemon box yet...)
so.......i WAS the weird lonely kid that did have all the stuff needed to finish my dex, mythicals aside. through very good budgeting and meticulous plotting with my birthday and christmas gift lists, i had what i needed. two GBAs, RSE, FRLG, colosseum, XD, a gamecube, both link cables, and i even had the bonus disk despite not preordering colosseum. they were just giving them away at walmart according to my mom? but yeah the only thing is that i lived in nowhere USA so i never got events near me and if i did, i was too shy to ask my mom to take me. but yeah us eccentric kids with way too many pokemon games and ambition did exist! hahaha. also yes, i do still have all of those things i listed! i'm hoping that i can give out some jirachis at a local event or at my local pkmn league some time, i think it would be nice, but i don't know that there are many locals that would be into it. many of the people i know started playing pokemon later in life or if they are long time fans, they don't have their old games anymore. maybe someday tho!
I’ve been working on an all form living Dex for a couple years where ALL Pokémon come from their original games. So Gen 1 from RBY, Gen 2 from GSC, and so on. All regional forms from the original region, etc. it’s been fun and interesting for sure, but some challenges. I can say for Gen 1 & 2 the duplication glitch saved me hundreds of hours of leveling up and breeding. Also learned that Pokemon traded from Gen 2 to 1 (and vice versa) and then transferred in Poke Transporter reflect origin from the game they transferred from- not where they originally came from before being traded. This helped me in finding gender specific pokemon I needed for Gen 1 all forms instead of catching a bunch of whatever I needed and taking a shot in the dark for the gender being what I still needed.
Funny that this video came out now. Im on the gen 3 living dex quest right now. Got almost everything. Got all my old games at home, still got a lot of pokemon left that i didnt transfer to gen 4. Bought a cardridge that distributes gen 3 events, so i got deoxys and mew yesterday. All thats missing is a japanese gamecube and a japanese copy of sapphire, because i found someone selling japanese colosseum and the celebi disk for surprisingly cheap and it says in the description, that they all still work. So im waiting and hoping haha
I did the gen 3 pokerdex or came extremely close, I remember being so happy when the new games came out and my mum got them for me, a young 10 year old at the time , just to find out we moved house and my ruby version with most my Pokémon on was left at the old house and mum wouldn’t go back and get it
I remember getting Sapphire and later Emerald, and reading about Jirachi and Deoxys online. I wanted them badly and tried the stupid fake space station event 😂 Anyway this led to one of the best Gamestop scores of my life, where dad took my $40 bucks in and came out with a GBA GameShark and the Pokemon Colosseum bonus disc. He explained we already bought colosseum and got it for free. The novelty never wore off it made playing the games so much more fun past just getting the legendaries.
Why go this far for specific events and gaming systems and all when the real problem is on the Switch… 4 games where you can’t « catch » them all, but you can’t either « buy » them all… you can’t even « transfer » them all, yet you can « pay more ». Pay more collect less, welcome on Nintendo Switch- half the content of the game cut off and everything seems « normal » for everyone while they really do no real development efforts that could explain this situation…
I find it frustrating to catch em all now because it isn't as simple as using two different devices anymore lol like I have a switch OLED and a switch lite, but I have to have a different account on each in order to trade back and forth.
Currently 1500+ pokemon in my home with a living dex. Thats 20+ years of playing…i was that kid that bought every game. Oldest pokemon i have in my home is my kyogre from my 1st Emerald playthrough 20 years ago.
I just noticed you used the dutch cover art of Ruby, with the text “English screentext . Engelse schermtekst”, the last part being dutch, explaining the game never got translated to dutch and was always released in english here
I kinda liked the way Gen 3 spread the Pokémon across Hoenn, Kanto and Orre. It felt like 3 different countries with different ecosystems and species, which made more sense than Slugma, Murkrow and Houndour inexplicably appearing in Kanto in Gen 2
I do remember how long it take me to complete the Pokemon dex on my fire red pokemon until I realized you couldn't because of those stupid events that were to get new, celebi, deoxys
17:10 One of the volunteers at the Poke Lab told me they were using a translation patch for the Japanese Bonus Disc. So I don't think an official English version of this exists. Also, the Celebis are region-free as far as I'm aware, since you can obtain the Japanese Bonus Disc Celebi on any English copy of Ruby/Sapphire.
@@Mrperson0 A GameCube and a GBA game of different regions cannot communicate with each other. However, the Colosseum and XD are region-free for whatever reason, so playing a Japanese version on a US GameCube can connect to a US GBA game.
@@CodenameHockhead Have you actually tried this out? Bulbapedia states that you can only link it to a Japanese GBA game, and when I tried it out on my JP Bonus Disc, I can only link to a JP game, can't link to US Ruby at all.
My friend got me that event Deoxys in Europe, but sometime later that very same safe file got corrupted. It has been the only time ever my Pokemon save file was lost, and it took my favorite legendary with it...
The thing that really piss me off on the games is not having multiple save files. Because you don't need 2 friends, you need 3, unless a friend is up to reset their progress for 1 starter. And that is early in game, the legendary is late and you can't breed those, so you need a copy of the game to store the mon then reset on 2 versions enough time that everyone can have their missing mons. But Nintendo is nice enough to sell you the solution in the form of Pokémon HOME. You still need both versions tho.
Nowadays, on switch, you can have multiple save files by creating new users and transfer the pokemon between accounts using Home (and you can do it without the subscription). It took time, but we reached there.
My guy is upset about losing his copy of Ruby as a kid, yet I'm here the guy who lost his copy of Emerald after I traded my Sapphire for Leaf Green and my Ruby for some other game. I also lost my copies of Silver and Red after the batteries died.
Craziest thing. Whilst the batteries in my gen 2 games died awhile ago, the ones in my copies of the original games are still chugging. It's an incredible miracle. But I finally transferred the pokes on there to gen3 this week. I've tempted fate enough, honestly.
@@silent_reaper999 I’d really recommend checking out his channel but there are some things you need before hand to do Flash cart (ez flash deluxe is good), 2 gba’s, link cable or 2 wireless gba connectors (depending on what events you wanna do), and the game you want to send the event to
I remember my brother being too embarrassed to go into a store for an event Pokémon (probably Toys R Us) so he and some friends drove their car behind the store right up against the back of the building and were able to connect and get the Pokémon lmao
I don't remember the exact date, but during Gen 3, I went to a comic book convention in Chicago, and there was a Pokémon booth there where they traded me the event ticket to catch Lugia and Ho-oh in my copy of FireRed. I didn't know in advance that this was gonna happen, either. It was just good fortune that I just _happened_ to have my GBA and copy of FireRed in my bag at the time, mainly to pass the time while waiting in long lines at the convention.
By complicating the games and not allowing you to complete the dex they basically underminded Norman J Grossfeld. The man who coined the catchphrase "Gotta Catch 'em All!"
I have the Japanese version of the Colosseum bonus disk, and yes, you need the Japanese version of Ruby/Sapphire. Also, you had to have beaten the game in both and purified all the shadow pokemon, then you would get 49 (I think) tickets that you could consume to transfer a Celebii.
I bought Ruby after saving $30 with $2 a week allowance... after beating Sapphire for the same reason. My OG Sapphire save has every Pokemon except Celebi. Even had a shiny Magikarp, now a red Gyrados in Gen 3 that I refuse to transfer up. Thanks for talking about Colosseum! Still have my copy that came with my Gamecube ❤
I also went to the Long Island Aviation Musuem Convention just like you! Someone nice enough had the gen 3 distribution roms and I got all my gen 3 games hooked up with all the events, and yes I was there to help get the 1000 point medal and 50 people funfest medal in B2W2! Man I love watching your videos but I had no idea you were at the event If I knew I woulda said hi
Another (and much easier) way to do it is to get a r4 card, download gba backup tool onto it, and backup your save on it. BOOM! Infinite [insert name here] distributor.
Well u mentioning ur missing Ruby game makes me sad. I lost both my Emerald and Firered while moving which had my first 2 full odd shinys (Spheal and Spearow)
Because I didn't have a link cable or go to the events, I just used a Action Replay to get all the pokemon and items. It was quicker that way especially with the ticket items like eon ticket and to catch legendary pokemon.
All the dummies at game freak Had to do was do shiny distributions🙄 gets people in the stores while not completely restricting certain pokemon. Idc if they locked em behind some giant fetch quest in game either. Anything is better than the nothing we always got.
I am currently going through my generation 3 Living Dex (already did 1 and 2 thanks to 3DS Virtual Console), and, MY GOD, this is tidious. Also note that I am doing it without Game Cube games, as I don't have one, and these games are way too expensive. The saving grace for me is the existence of ACE (arbitrary code execution) in Emerald, allowing me to still activate the limited time events (Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh and Deoxys), and getting Jirachi and Celebi, in order to make it possible. But outside of these specific Pokemon, you technically can complete a gen 3 living dex without any of the GC stuff.
so wild to me that in 2024 there is pretty much no way of starting from scratch and legitimately completing the pokedex. They should really start combining old gens into remakes and release them to the switch so people can do it again
In conclusion, catching them all has always been a cluster and we should at least be a little grateful methods have somewhat improved over the decades lol
Actually, gen 6 (and sort of 7) had the 15th anniversary mythical distribution. It wasn’t as in depth as it was in the older gens, but you still had to go to a gamestop (that’s where I went, at least) once a month to get a different mythical pokemon.
You know what sucked was growing up in smalltown Canada and not getting ACCESS to event pokemon. Some of the only ones I was ever able to obtain legitimately were the shiny Suicune, Entei, and Raikou, and I still have them.
I remember when I was in 5th and 6th grade (2008-2009) I decided to try and get as many pokemon as possible on my (EU) Fire Red game save. I still have that save, and I did get everything that Fire Red, Leaf Green, Sapphire, Emerald and Colosseum could offer, except for the Colosseum Ho-Oh. I had already sold my Ruby and XD copies, so I was out of luck with those, and I had no way of getting Mew, Celebi, Deoxys or Jirachii, but other than that I managed to get a complete living dex, every evo stage + all Unknown onto my Fire Red copy. A couple of years ago I bought copies of Ruby and XD again, and I also bought an American colosseum bonus disc (though I don't have any NTSC Colosseum or an NTSC console), but I never got very far into getting the ones I missed. I also got a Japanese colosseum (already had a NTSC-J console because buying that console + a GBA player + a NTSC-J Player disc was somehow cheaper than just the PAL Player disc), and a japanese copy of Sapphire. The plan was to get a bonus disc Celebi, even if I could only have it on the japanese Sapphire version, and I did order a Celebi bonus disc off E-Bay, but it never arrived. I did get my money back, but decided to not order a new one right away, and by the next time I looked they had doubled in price, so I still don't have one, and I'm not sure I'm motivated enough to get one if I can't transfer it to my EU game anyway.
I mean you can game shark the tickets and because the events are programmed into he game you just need to irl event to unlock tickets or to trade with a game that had them to mix data I believe. They would still be legit you just access the code in a sane manner
It should be where Mythical Pokémon are a password or QR code like in Yokai Watch. Then they can be kept long term. Maybe you have to beat the game to unlock the feature to get them. I don’t k ow.
Yeah Gen 3 is a fun time. Gotta catch em all with a big ole asterisk next to it. requiring every single game in the generation to get everything and have multiple pieces of hardware. I have gotten a 380 pokedex in Emerald. Only missing the obvious, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, and Deoxys. I'm fine with 380. Those last 6 I see as impossible
TL:DR. Just with the GBA games and no events you can get every Pokemon except the 4 mythicals and Ho-Oh and Lugia. However, the Johtomons are all post-game exclusive to FRLG and Emerald, and the Beasts and Johto Starters are both nightmares to get on your own (Beasts are 1 per game post game FRLG, Starters are 1 per game post game complete the regional dex in Emerald). Colosseum and XD both feature a way to get the Johto Starters (albeit in Colosseum it's relatively easy, 1 early game 2 post game, while in XD it's the final part of the game and requires 100% and a 100 battle MT Battle run for one, then another 100 battle Mt Battle run for the others), Ho-Oh is a 100% Mt Battle bonus in Colosseum, and Lugia is a late game mon in XD. They also just make a bunch of regular Johto mons easier to get, plus the Legendary Birds, plus Eeveelutions. You can get Jirachi with the Western Bonus disc and Celebi with the Japanese one. Deoxys and Mew are only legit if you find a verifiably legit one on an old cartridge which...good luck with that.

7:45 "[I] got Emerald version and had Sapphire as well and wanted to get a zangoose, just to learn that zangoose is only in Ruby and not Sapphire or Emerald."
You just transported me back ~15 years to when I was trying to fill out my Gen 3 Pokédex as legitimately as I could.
Not to mention that even with these glitches, i still couldnt get celebi or jirachi without using ACE to spawn custom mass outbreaks
Get another Emerald to finish your pokedex ;) Ho-oh/lugia don't count btw, I got my national dex without Lugia.
Bro the ACE glitch never worked for me, my game would always freeze when I hatched the game when I put the crazy codes in the PC boxes
You can get the mystery gift items to travel to all islands, as if it was 2006, TODAY. You can even get jirachi and celebi from the bonus discs. And the best part is that you can do all this almost for free. As long as you have a NDS/NDSlite + an R4, to backup your save files, with some google-ing and your imagination you can do it😁
@@stixoimatizontas how much is an r4?
10:05 You could also get a surfing pikachu from N64's Pokemon Stadium and there was a fun surfing minigame in Pokemon Yellow if you had it
I was actually just told about LI Retro Gaming Con by one of the workers when I was at Anime NYC recently, he overheard me talking about my gen 3 living dex and mentioned how they run the events down there, definitely gonna have to check it out next year
Hey, I was also at LIRetro and didn't realize you were there at the time until I went through photos! Awesome to see everyone and I'm so happy with my funfest medals!
The difficulty in accessing all the Pokémon in Pokemon games is why I got an action replay back in the gen3 and gen4 era games
I completed my Gen 3 Pokedex recently and MAN was that a whole task
- Purified all the shadow mon in Colosseum (Japanese)
- Got Ho-oh from Colosseum
- Japanese Colosseum Bonus Disc for Celebi
- Bought Japanese Ruby to get previously mentioned Celebi and get gen 3 starter pokemon
- American Bonus Disc for Jirachi
- Playthrough and caught all the Mons in Emerald (USA)
- Traded the Deoxys and other mon I had in my old Fire Red copy
- Playthrough Leaf Green for the gen 1 starter and other mon that I did not have in Fire Red
- Playthrough XD for Lunatone and Lugia
- Bought Japanese Emerald which had Old Sea Chart so I could get Mew
- And finally I used Pokemon Box to transfer things more easily with the American games (I had to use link cable and two gbas to move the Japanese Pokemon into my English Emerald)
Sounds like quite the experience. I’m doing something similar myself. Currently finishing up XD. I skipped gen 3 back in the day so this was a fun experience
Funny you post this as I just completed my fully legit generation 3 living dex on my FireRed copy yesterday
13:35 To be fair, the Mew _does not_ say 'obtained at level 27' it says *arrived at level 27*
yeah I misspoke, but it’s not hacked it’s from the actual toys r us event
so.......i WAS the weird lonely kid that did have all the stuff needed to finish my dex, mythicals aside. through very good budgeting and meticulous plotting with my birthday and christmas gift lists, i had what i needed. two GBAs, RSE, FRLG, colosseum, XD, a gamecube, both link cables, and i even had the bonus disk despite not preordering colosseum. they were just giving them away at walmart according to my mom? but yeah the only thing is that i lived in nowhere USA so i never got events near me and if i did, i was too shy to ask my mom to take me. but yeah us eccentric kids with way too many pokemon games and ambition did exist! hahaha.
also yes, i do still have all of those things i listed! i'm hoping that i can give out some jirachis at a local event or at my local pkmn league some time, i think it would be nice, but i don't know that there are many locals that would be into it. many of the people i know started playing pokemon later in life or if they are long time fans, they don't have their old games anymore. maybe someday tho!

I am still proud that my cousin , my brother and I managed to obtain all 386 pokemon in gen 3 without any cheats!
I just made lunch this is a perfect time to watch a PaPaSea video
Thankfully nowadays it's not too hard to get a ds flashcart or GBA flashcart to reproduce the Gen 3 events
Thank GOD for that too!
I wanted them badly and tried the stupid fake space station event 😂
Anyway this led to one of the best Gamestop scores of my life, where dad took my $40 bucks in and came out with a GBA GameShark and the Pokemon Colosseum bonus disc. He explained we already bought colosseum and got it for free. The novelty never wore off it made playing the games so much more fun past just getting the legendaries.
Why go this far for specific events and gaming systems and all when the real problem is on the Switch…
4 games where you can’t « catch » them all, but you can’t either « buy » them all… you can’t even « transfer » them all, yet you can « pay more ».
Pay more collect less, welcome on Nintendo Switch- half the content of the game cut off and everything seems « normal » for everyone while they really do no real development efforts that could explain this situation…
THIS, WHY MAKE THE SLOGAN TO CATCH THEM ALL AND PUNISH US FOR IT??
I find it frustrating to catch em all now because it isn't as simple as using two different devices anymore lol like I have a switch OLED and a switch lite, but I have to have a different account on each in order to trade back and forth.
I got a legit gen 1 (virtual console) Mew at an in-person event the night before Sun and Moon came out!
Currently 1500+ pokemon in my home with a living dex. Thats 20+ years of playing…i was that kid that bought every game. Oldest pokemon i have in my home is my kyogre from my 1st Emerald playthrough 20 years ago.
Long Island mentioned. Instant sub
I bet if you hammer away enough you’d be able to catch em all
I just noticed you used the dutch cover art of Ruby, with the text “English screentext .
Remoraid and quagsire are in colosseum
Missed opportunity for the Timmy Turners dad meme
You can do some difficult glitches to complete the Pokédex with less games
17:10 One of the volunteers at the Poke Lab told me they were using a translation patch for the Japanese Bonus Disc. So I don't think an official English version of this exists. Also, the Celebis are region-free as far as I'm aware, since you can obtain the Japanese Bonus Disc Celebi on any English copy of Ruby/Sapphire.
Is that really the case? I don't think JP Pokemon Colosseum can communicate with international GBA games due to the GameCube having region locking.
I got a celebi at the 10th anniversary event. I’ll never forget!
@@Minezum It is more of a plus of the switch itself, but at least it's possible.
8:42 THENICLY
glad you were able to complete your deck finally abolish mythicals
Goppier has also recreated these events to use whenever you want
Really?how
@@silent_reaper999 I’d really recommend checking out his channel but there are some things you need before hand to do
Flash cart (ez flash deluxe is good), 2 gba’s, link cable or 2 wireless gba connectors (depending on what events you wanna do), and the game you want to send the event to
@@silent_reaper999watch his video. It’s a good watch 😊
I had the ToysRUs Mew as a kid.......... I taught it all HM moves, and Gen1 didn't have a move deleter 😭
Gen 3 was crazy.
You should’ve sent mew to Pokémon Emerald so you can duplicate it. Then you could have a mew for any Pokémon game you want.
Another (and much easier) way to do it is to get a r4 card, download gba backup tool onto it, and backup your save on it.
BOOM! Infinite [insert name here] distributor.
You can also backup your save using gb backup tool and an r4 card and you have infinite distribution
This is why I don’t mind cheating or the DNS trick to get events
They knew what they were doing
it's possible some guy made a video, he had to spend like $1.5k
imagine the disappointment here in the province on the Philippines, no events, and like there's no one to trade with.
Well u mentioning ur missing Ruby game makes me sad. I lost both my Emerald and Firered while moving which had my first 2 full odd shinys (Spheal and Spearow)
i saw Aggron for a split second, my day is undescribably better now (Aggron is my boy)
Because I didn't have a link cable or go to the events, I just used a Action Replay to get all the pokemon and items. It was quicker that way especially with the ticket items like eon ticket and to catch legendary pokemon.
Event distribution will always be the worst thing about these games
I mentioned this in a previous video, but link cables were not this rare, elusive item back then like you keep claiming them to be.
All the dummies at game freak
Had to do was do shiny distributions🙄 gets people in the stores while not completely restricting certain pokemon. Idc if they locked em behind some giant fetch quest in game either. Anything is better than the nothing we always got.
I used glitches and caught them all at ruby after trading every Pokemon I could from the other versions.
Wait ur telling my they were doing the distribution there and i WASNT AWARE!?!?(!?!
Dude i was at the LI expo too. I got platinum finally but paid 200 hehehe. I got a lot of games i wanted!
You know what sucked was growing up in smalltown Canada and not getting ACCESS to event pokemon. Some of the only ones I was ever able to obtain legitimately were the shiny Suicune, Entei, and Raikou, and I still have them.
Meanwhile, I'm sitting comfortably on my living dex in Pokémon Home.
i got both versions and and 2 gameboys because,... no friends...
Idek why they made it this hard to collect pokemon for. Just let us fulfill our destiny! Damn
I left my copy of sapphire in a caravan when me and my family went on holiday I realised halfway home and my asshole of a dad refused to go back 😢😢
Not to mention some of these mons are hard to get not just catch. Once your committed to the Pokédex your on hella side quests. My thoughts.
Aren't those events just run from special game cartridges you connect to? So if you get the rom run on real hardware...
My Emerald Pokédex is only missing Mew and Deoxys. I hate that they are completely unobtainable legitimately.
I didn't have friends as a kid, but I had siblings who had to have other versions of games so we didn't steal each others game.
That better have been a repro-cart in the beginning lol
I could never do that with my Pokemon games
I got the mew in the 90s at an event in Los Angeles. They gave us a physical certificate for it too.
I hope that copy you threw was a repro
it was a fake copy that I got so I could throw it
