Thanks for the amazing comments. Is this something you have ever thought about in your set up? If you want to learn how to compress your irons better watch this video ruclips.net/video/fYWRO6ddgD0/видео.html
Cheers my man. Applied this today in a rainy bad weather round . My lowest back nine ever and hit 90 % of my shots with no fats or tops😊😅. Great advice here 👍
When ever my irons start going bad my first check is that I’m getting blade flat at address….it’s the one check that will more or less fix it all for me, or at least get me through the round iron-wise..
This was fantastic!! I have pulled my short irons and wedges for years. Tried everything! I adjusted the club like you said, just bring the heel up a touch and VOILA! THANK YOU!!!!
Your mention of a cricket stance being upright reminded me that having come from a cricket background, I addressed the ball in a rather upright manner when I first started playing golf after retirement. After lessons in "proper" stance I gained more distance but lower scores. After turning 75 I went back to a cricket stance and stroke and dropped 5 strokes - still FAR from scratch. I lost distance but increased accuracy being able to hit to "Long-on" and "long- off" on demand, no more 5 lost balls per round. Great information that I wished I had when I first wanted to play with a more classic golf swing but too late for me now!
Loved this tip! I was skeptical that after 40+ years I was not properly setup....I used the tip out on the course...WOW! Great tip....certainly helped me :-)
This is the video I did not realise I needed. Came here after just getting fitted and been missing my irons to the left. Assumed it was because I was still using toe up but moving to a stiff shaft from a stiff flex. I have come away not only confirming that but also how I can use the lie to direct my flight. Will be trying this at the range this morning. ❤
Thanks Mark. Your explanations make the seemingly complicated appear so obvious. Being both an equipment and swing tinkerer, I was aware of the effects lie angle, grip, hand height, posture etc. has on start direction, path and shot shape. I've always managed them as separate elements. But I never considered the influence lie angle has on grip, hand height and posture. I don't know why, but I just never saw the link so this has been illuminating. Cheers.
I’ve forgotten this really helpful information, thanks Mark. It totally explains why I’ve been overdrawing my irons I’ve got lazy on posture and I’ve been setting my hand too low (more comfortable) I’m going to work on returning to neutral and working on getting my fade back on the course. 😊
This is such an awesome video! This is one of the "tests" i've implemented at the range when Im filming my swing when noticing patterns change. Im a cut player, if im starting to hit draws or hooks, or an over-cut, i find the lie plays a huge part in it!
What an eye opening video. I have recently been struggling to draw the ball but have been working on reducing a fade over the last few months. This video does bring the question to me, am I too upright, do I need to made sure the irons I’ve used for years actually suit me. How can I book an inspirational lesson with you mark?
Can you please stand as a lefty and do this exact same teching please? It is so awkward trying to mirror this while being a southpaw. Thank you, The Lefty Golfer. 😂
Mark. I tried a club 1 inch longer than my normal and it was standard lie and I'm 2 degree upright, but found with it being longer the toe instantly raised off the ground like my upright ones. Would this work long term?
Could you also talk a bit about how the club face should sit at address? I heard with a neutral grip, if you have a little forward press, the club will sit couple degree open. Is this correct or should the edge be square / perpendicular even with slight forward hands? Thanks Mark
What a great way to reaffirm grip. As a tall player, I tend to get wear my glove out on the heel pad of my hand (opposite side of my thumb), down by my wrist.
What about where you stand for different results I the first time I ever hit a ball on a par three course remember Snead nine iron, had to play in line with the back heel back foot you would say and hit it not behind but on the down swing clean I put it 10-14 feet from the pin.
To be fair, looking at angles at an angle takes some getting used to. LOL. This is interesting though in terms of adding layers of understanding surrounding how the club is flung around and some consideration to lie when hitting that next shot… Thanks Mark!
Hi Mark. Just watched this but I have a question. With the toe slightly up, when you play your shot and with the shaft flex, won't this make the sole of the club either flat, or slightly toe down?
Mark , absolutetly perfect description ,and a massive help to me !! I play off 1.6 , a 60 year old self taught one a week golfer , so rellevant that i drawing the tits off my irons and its killing me !!! A massive thankyou ❤❤❤
Hey Mark. If you've done a video on this before, sorry - but can you give some tips on how to get around a course that isn’t...the nicest? My typical track has a lot of bare spots you'll land in that are just off the fairway/green side rough or even on it, really hard sand bunkers (this is the biggest problem for me personally, the club basically cannot go into the sand), uneven tee boxes, etc. It's the closest course to me, and it's where I play a weekly men's league. Would love to know if there are any hacks you can recommend. Thanks!
If he never gets back to you, lemme tell you how I navigate it. The bare lies can be either like hitting off a cheap driving range mat or concrete (some give, or no give). You have to figure out which it is. If you have enough give in the soil, you can try gliding the club into the ball by hitting a smidge behind the ball, so you are able to present grooves higher up the face. That's the cheap range mat method. If there is no give, then you'll need to assume every shot will be shorter and possibly leak right because you'll be hitting thin and will need to cut across the ball just to get it up in the air. You'll basically want to pick it clean so you don't hurt yourself, too. That's the concrete method. Sand shots are fairly easy. Just use a square face and chunk and run. Just hit an inch or two behind the ball. You don't have fluffy sand to hit through, so there's no need to do anything with a bounce. You need to dig and get through, hence square face (maybe even shut it a little - experiment with it). It's a different way of playing than you would pure conditions, but you'll be very good on pure conditions when you see them. Good luck!
Golf is 100 times easier using these tips with one length clubs from LW to 8i only. Trust me. If your bottom 6 clubs all one length 37" u will have a 150 yard and in master control.
Lie angle needs to be measured dynamically (at impact) static measurements at address is BS. Get the golf swing in good form from your pro then be fit to reward the motion.
Way too complex for a simple physics rule. The club moving through space naturally droops lower because of shaft flex. More flex engenders more droop. SO the Set up MUST have the toe up. Also, most people swing dynamically with their hands higher at impact to create room for your hips to rotate. SO even more droop. Bottom line: You need to test your lie hitting off a lie board OR a reliable launch monitor to calculate your proper dynamic level impact position of the club head.
Picked up a golf club for the very first time in April at aged 40 and instantly fell in love with the sport Ive only ever played on my local 9 hole par 3 course First time I shot 68 (+41) My 8th time at the course I shot 42 (+15) Thought I was getting better but my last 2 times around the course have been absolutely horrendous I only use irons/wedges (because it's a par 3 course) and I cannot for the life of me get the ball in the air. Don't care what anybody else says about you, no-one explains things as clearly and simply as yourself, well done sir!
Mark - just want to say I appreciate these 'beginner' lessons or reminders.

Isn't it crazy how one little tweak can make such a huge difference?! Golf... what a game!
Man, the quality of how this is produced from end to end is very impressive.
Reaffirming basics is so important - I often overlook them.
Thumbs up. Not just for the lesson, but also for the T-REX arms

Great lessons Mark. We always need reminders to stop us falling in to bad habits and spoiling the game.
Brilliant lesson. Thanks!
Thanks Ken
You’re brilliant at explaining things mate 👍🏻
I'm going to have to put this info. into play tomorrow. Thanks Mark.
Thanks I needed to know this and always wondered about this.

I’d call it a refresher lesson Mark how many golfers learn new things in golf and forget the basics. Great blogs bud 👍
You are awesome. Very helpful!
Love this video 👍🏻
Thanks Mark - great tips and I appreciate the explanation and detail.
Another brilliant lesson, Mark!
Great reminder Mark! TY

Keeping it real Mark. Thanks for the basic reminders ⛳️👍🏻
Great video Mark!
Thanks Mark, great video.
Just the lesson I need before I try out some new to me classic Ping S55s.
Brilliant very informative.
Great vid Mark. Exactly what i have been doing. Will try a more neutral body position at the range..cheers.!
Needed this thanks!

Does this correlate with driver as well?
Lou’s t-rex arms!! Don’t forget the 28-inch inseam!! 😂😂
Just tried it, really good to get a small amount of draw/fade without having to think about it.

What if someone has a 29" inseam? Would junior clubs be better?
Haha 😂
Thank you Mark I give it a crack.

All things equal yes that’s why it’s “standard” practice. 👍
Why can't I save your videos? They are very informative.
I suppose lie angle of the club is also why we aim right or left if the ball above or below your feet?
Yep 👍
2degree upright + 1 inch length weak grip toe down results in straight shots 😉
Mark thanks, you may have kept me from throwing my irons into the trash.
What are the weird circles on the face of your iron Mark?

Sometimes (actually, more often than not) less is more, Mark. Just say’n.
Love the Lou ripper 😂 #trexarms
The amazing comments of a golf swing are cute aoristojyes of the correct norm of someynt else of things.
Should more golfers play clubs with flatter lie angles?
Do u teach
Interesting how he doesn’t ground the club. He keeps it hovering a little bit off the ground.

Stop picking on Lou. (At least you didn't mention the 29" inseam)😮
Lie angle needs to be measured dynamically (at impact) static measurements at address is BS. Get the golf swing in good form from your pro then be fit to reward the motion.
Always keep the tow end up and you must keep the balls clean.
The only thing I don’t like is that you always have a flat lie what about if you are in a divot
🙀

Lie boards are not great. Please use a launch monitor.
Also not sure you watch the video. Haha.
