Sitting in plain sight in a Neighbourhood sits the former home of a Gangster. Custom built for his family in 1979, they sparred at no expense. The house featured a large foyer, an indoor pool with a chandelier, and a bar in the basement. He lived here for 14 years, blending in with the other neighbours to keep a low profile and avoid trouble. Everything changed in 1993 when the police started looking for him. To avoid imprisonment, the gangster fled the country with his family back to Europe. The home sat empty until a new family moved in in 1995. They lived here until 2016, keeping the home mostly unchanged. 8 Years later, the mansion sits in disrepair. The property is unmaintained and overgrown. Now an eyesore in the community, the mansion will be demolished to construct nine new homes.

I remember when this house was being built. We had never seen such a huge house in that area before. My grandparents lived on the street over, as kids we used to ride our bikes daily and watch it being built for hours.

I’ve owned two houses built in 1963. Both had built-in bars. It was how that generation coped and socialized. It was a daily thing: come home and mix yourself a cocktail.

My parents had a "rec" room (recreation room) with a bar. Stools. Pinball machine. Slot machine and a shuffleboard table. Oh the parties we used to have were epic. That rec room saw alot of wrecked people over the years. Good times 😂😂
So yes, we used the bar regularly for decades. My mother is still in the same house. No more parties. And my dad passed away. I grew up about 30 miles east of Toronto Ontario.

My 1979 house that was the model home for the development had plush, dark rust colored carpet. It looked pretty good since it was not orange. not at all offensive and it was very high end. Lots of mirrors, too. Oh. There was the carpeted bathroom. A dumb idea that my late husband and I thought was a very impractical choice for a bathroom. This house is the height of garishness as was the decor of the era it was built. Fun to see , though. Thanks, Noah.

I pass by that house regularly and incredibly people lived there until Jan of 2023 (it was sold in Dec 2022). I originally thought it was a large family because of the number of cars I would often see in previous years, but now I see it was obviously tenants. Thanks for the video as I always wondered what it looked like inside and even when it was listed for sale no inside pictures were shown. For the past 20 years, no work was ever done on the outside with the exception of cutting the grass and snow removal. Does anyone have more information about the gangster connection or what to search for regarding this? I had no idea and it sounds very interesting.

This would have been a beautiful house in it's day. I would have added storage to the kitchen and used a lighter colour for the cabinets. The current style is what they would have used when the house was built. It's amazing what some renters will do to a place, taping wallboard on a doorway? ugh. They also did some hatchet jobs in the basement too. I saw another video where it looked like there had been squatters and there was a fire in the stove. I think they lit the fire there thinking that a stove gets hot so a fire in there should be ok, duh. I think a big reason why houses don't have fireplaces is the rules, regulation and the insurance cost. Definitely looks like they did make their own wine. Our bar wasn't used for big parties, just when we had visitors and small gatherings, it kept any mess out of the living room. Hmmmm, changing the light bulb in the chandelier over the pool.
