On the hunting grounds of the Dayaks, formerly headhunters in the tropical rainforest Borneo, there are many artisanal diamond deposits found of exceptional colors: yellow, green, blue, pink, red...
Little information is found or circulating about these sites, long protected by natural elements.
Already exploited in the tenth century at the time of Golconda mines in India, they provided among other riches, the diamonds of the Jakarta Treasury in which this film will take you; deep into the coffers and the windows filled with rich crowns, kris (daggers long royal) whose blade was manufactured with metal meteorites and pommel gold set with a variety of gems and a multitude of other jewels set and covered with precious stones.
During this expedition, the film immerses you in exceptional scenes, including that of Shamans that purify villages with diamonds, but the Imams who practice \"soussouk\", the ancestral tradition of implanting diamonds under the skin of their followers.
After having extracted the sediments from the river Landak, and after long journeys, the diamonds are housed with the merchants of Jakarta, then to the different corners of the world, notably, in Antwerp where some men are specialized in the trade of diamond color.
Arthur Langerman, the greatest of colored diamonds specialists, was commissioned by the jeweler Georland to find an incredible amount of gems of the same color, and to ultimately create an unusual ‘gem’: \"Aston Martin\" whose dashboard is covered over 5000 diamonds.
You enter into the Chateau of Chantilly, in France to find a pink diamond with an inestimable value; and now hidden deep within a safe: " The Conde".
The famous diamond in Indonesia is from Banjar.
Famous opal in Indonesia is from Banten. ( kalimaya black opal )
These documentary's literally made me go down a rabbit hole of gems, thank you for making these inspiring videos!
same. First it was learning about the refractive index. Then it was looking up the world's most famous diamonds.

I just love these documentaries on your channel. It gives me so much more sentiment over my jewelery. It is good to know where and how our gems and settings come from. I also like the narrator, she makes me that much more immersed in the story whether or not she is repeating the english speaker, or translating a foreign language.
a very interesting program depicting the experiences and hardships needed to obtain diamonds in order to survive, but also the obscenity of having a car covered in diamonds. Distasteful!!
I’m sure those miners are thrilled to have such a robust market for their diamonds.
Placing diamonds under the skin, by magic, without blood or incision, that is the most hilarious scam I’ve seen yet.
Love, love colored diamonds!
What a magnificent Aston Martin and the sheik who was driving it was proud as a peacock 🎉❤ Great video. I enjoyed it with enthusiasm.😊
Patrick tu as réalisé un reportage extraordinaire concernant les pierres précieuses à Bornéo merci à toi avec autant de couleurs de diamant.
From Nanmaran BELGIUM
Ow, Thank you Mr. Patrick to show other beauty of my bornland, Pontianak. I am surprised that Pontianak is a fancy diamond producer, impresive.
Pontianak is a beautiful place. I have had the pleasure of becoming a tatung in singkawang. I love Borneo
I have a special love for the island of Borneo because my father's family surname is Boneo. They took the r out however, I want to believe that one side of our ancestor's came from Borneo ages ago and to save the place they they used it as part of their name. And strangely, some of the children alive do have a similar appearance of the islanders. I do as well.
where you family home after Borneo you supposed
Thank you for a great video that's very interesting, educating and well documented. Looking forward to going on a journey with you someday.
Crazy world we are living, I was thinking about those poor souls picking up the left over from emerald mines in Colombia, and this smack driving a Aston Martin that looks a bit Kitsch to me anyway
Yes, life isn't fair. But it is about making the best with the opportunities you are given. What may seem like a life of hell to you is a blessing for that guy digging through those tailings for emeralds. Because his only other options will earn him 10% the money for the same work. If it wasn't a better life for them, they would not be doing it. I have several friends from Colombia. Trust that there are worse life's that they can be forced into to make money.
compare Your Life or My Life to the poor Colombians or to the "smack in the nice automobile"..........................
if you have the correct perspective, the value is the same........
the stars above our heads are the diamonds we can own, each human that lives, has lived, or will live...................
the "things" one possesses, will soon pass to another, VERY Temporary in the scheme of this life.......
Don't think
Awesome. Educative, informative and well documented.
All I want is a huge super high definition poster of that collection of Arthur Langerman so I can marvel at those diamonds I'll never come close to.
Watching this makes me homesick for the home of my spirit
Very interesting about colored diamonds, thanks.
Diamonds are not very heavy, and, in fact, because they have a greasy/adamantine lustre, very small diamonds can very easily be washed away! I worked for diamond exploration companies in Western Australia and for the company which found the Argyll Diamond Mine, which, at one time, was the world's biggest producer of diamonds, BY VOLUME. The pinks and the champagne coloured diamonds were Argyll's speciality colours. When people mention "white" diamonds, the correct term should be "colourless" diamonds! I still prefer natural/uncut/rough diamonds to cut ones.
Interesting thanks!
Very humble, cultured, easy going HEAD HUNTERS. Pontianak was the place where a long lost 800yrs old rituals was performed before heads were severed.
Очень интересно и познавательно.Как будто сам ,лично,побывал среди этой красоты...
all that amount of diamonds makes you really stick more and more to ruby's and emeralds , since they are rare gems compared to diamonds ....
Bruh... if you feel like emeralds are rare, think again
My gosh your so talented.I love coloured diamonds ( pink ) is my favourite.I do wish that the poor could have a better life.Im sure you will help the people. In Borneo..If I was able to help them I would...I did enjoy this video.Maybe give the poor the proceeds of the money you make to help the poor..Thank you for sharing the beauty of the land , people and of course the diamonds 💖
A car that can not be left unattended. Good job!
FASCINATING!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️💎♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wow a lots of diamonds great video thank you for sharing
Well, that was interesting. I wouldn’t mind having a diamond encrusted toaster.
I was just thinking The other day. how nice it would be to have a dimond Toilet.the seat would be Gold.the Tank Lid pink Dimond's.the Tank Blue Dimond's.lol.
Maybe later you will have it unexpectedly.
Pity! Oh you poor things don’t have that yet? Then one Must ask oneself: “Self, What am I doing with My Life as in why Don’t I have a flawless diamond toaster or golden toilet encrusted with pink AND blue diamonds?” Lol
Hint! ☝️You’ll find the answer is within...
This guy driving around with all these stones,I wonder how happy and peaceful his life is?
Using all those diamonds in a car, however expensive and rare it may be, is so tacky lol
Leave it to the UAE to waste rare gems in such a way.
I agree. To me, it's disgusting.
They have a LOT more money than sense! It was so VERY Vulgar.
Honestly, wasteful and horrible human being-honestly wasteful and horrible human beings horrifying earth’s treasure and humanity’s labor...
Diamonds are not rare contrary to the liars in the industry.
You are being overtly critical. None of the diamonds are damaged. When diamonds are bought and sold, money changes hands. This set of diamonds have benefited the poor people of Indonesia. Normally it would have taken a long time for each individual diamond to be sold. Studding his car with diamonds is his art. The diamonds are not lost. Anytime each diamond can be re-purposed. I think this gentleman did a noble thing by spending his money. The rich people in the Middle East are big spenders. Their investments and expenditures help a lot of companies in western countries and generate a lot of employment for many people across the world. I would also like to thanks Patrick! Thanks to his videos many people get to learn about the poor and struggling people of Africa, Myanmar, Indonesia, etc. These videos create a charm for these far off places and attract tourists. Also very educational, informative and top class videos!
I'm impressed how "connected" you are.
I always wonder how much he pays these people in order to get such intimate access into delicate meetings. Especially at the private mines.
Wow I Love Borneo Or Kalimantan In Indonesia..Diamond Or Intan Or Berlian Or Galuh...
Very interesting please do more.
👌
the french jeweller was "studying 6 months" to cover a plastic car trim piece with diamonds with no artistic flair. just cover trim in a rectangle shape
Absolutely amazing video & design.
Great.colour diands are the most beautyfull on earth.
Très instructif . Merci .
super video, so interesting indeed
I find it appalling that these people will spend millions on frivolous things when people just a few miles down the road are starving due to their greed. We live in a backwards world.
indeed...
Exactly.
@Johnny Habib you've heard the crown princes saying haven't you? One of them said "my father ride a camel, I drive a mercedes, and my son/grandson (cannot remember which one) will ride a camel"
@Johnny Habib you seem to not understand the quote.
@Johnny Habib buddy you're assuming way too much you need to get your ass on somewhere
Diamonds are precious.
I love he is going to do a new way of mounting the gems (Super Glue)
Ok... I wasn’t the only one.
Gaffer tape is better.
strang that you have less views,,and i think u have amazing documentrary...ihope u wil have much more views son,,thanke you
because the video is uploaded before 1 month.... that's why less Views
It’s because of the background noise that is unnecessary and annoys the majority of people too much to continue watching
I read that diamonds from Borneo are harder than diamonds from elsewhere.
Gems lover from Indonesia always monitor ♥️♥️😍😍😇👍
Amazing im from in indonesia
Wonderful indonesia
Enjoyable and educational.
I thought it was illegal for anyone but the dayak to cut down any trees there? If so, i am pretty sure those logging companies should either be in jail or they're not the ones cutting them down. Forgive me if i am wrong. I just thought the Dayak tribe are the only ones allowed to cut any trees down.
We export it to your Country as demand for it is high...
Very nice👍👍🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
That car story is bizarre. Pretty much kills any fantasies of world peace and universal good will.
congratulations very good documentary
Such an amazing docu. Im from Indonesia.
I am thinking in Indonesia has very much diamond and so many clours .I can say that in Indonesia ,diamond very hight quality in the world .To day, bussiness intereting it population around in Asia and EU .
Great job on this documentary. I don't understand why your narrator speaks over the woman who spoke English quite well. It was very distracting. IMHOP Thank you for your work!
It's a shame how even the first sentences mislead the audience.
Talking about a volcanic island then we see a komodo dragon, eventually the narrator concludes that we are in Borneo.
First off Borneo is not a volcanic island, in fact there are no volcanoes in Borneo at all.
Komodo dragons don't live in Borneo but on Komodo island, hence the name.
Still have 51 minutes left till the end and I wonder how many more errors will be there.
That car is beautiful
Joy to others bring joys to all .promote it .
Fascinating.
I have been enjoying many of Patrick Voillot's documentaries, and this is the first video that I find most annoying. First, because of the loud action-adventure dramatic music and second, the unnecessary female voice-over that is repeating what the subjects are saying in the documentary. Their English is perfectly understandable, could have saved some money if you had to pay for the voice-over.
Kalimantan gems mostly amethys, emerald, diamond, and agate. Martapura town in south kalimantan is the central gems market of the whole island.
Very informative
That car is a slap in the face for anyone living in poverty in both the country it was going and the one that produced the diamonds
im from Borneo. this channel is so tense. i feel scared.... a bit speechless.
maybe to them gemstones are WAR ITEMS.
to some maybe.
but here is my story..
i grew up amongst Borneo people. i play wt all kind of gemstones... all.. evn maybe we dont hv english of frenchy words... or they dont evn know (THANKS GOD THOSE WEST HUMAN DONT KNOW OR THEY COME AGAIN TO TERROR UND TO COLON).
i play wt gemstones since kid.. my uncles came with satin cloth in bundles. some gems from rivers.. from sea bottoms.. from under super hard wood.. from shell animals.. from granites or sandstones earth.. from heavy rain..
pearl.. stones of all colors were in bowls.. in my mother kitchen.. offered.. sold.. or given to reletives.
im shocked tat people were shocked at stories of diamonds.. bla this blaa blaa that.
some people dont even know of GREEN PEARl.. water pearls.. deep sea pearl.. ocean pearls..
ocean stones are amazing colors to play.
they are all just stones.. but if you want it like crazy.. you can give all the millions.. billions..
but living in island... they just stones to us.... WE WILL LAUGH UND THINK U MAD IF WE SEE YOU WALK AROUND WITH STRING AROUND YR NECK UND STICK THOSE STONES AROUND YR NECK.. or put some wire und stuck them to put on top yr head.. the lightning come und kill you.
so.... when i was kid i was playing wt my brotrs.. sisters.. island friends..und we were allll RICHER THAN TODAY QUEENS.. DIVAS. MAHARAJAHS..becos when we tired.. we just left them.. till next play. the game we love most was SIMBAN PLAY... TING TING PLAY... HIDE N SEEK STONES.. YOU BUY I SELL GAME.. und many more.

hmmm.
I am Descendent DAYAK the indigenous forrerst first people nation of Borneo
Beau et bon reportage, de la part d'1 acheteur de brut .........
It has been said that the statement: “extremely rare” should not be used to describe diamonds as this is mostly untrue and exaggerated. Everyone that follows the story of diamonds knows that the monopolies were behind the birth of this myth. Used to inflate prices and control the supply chain, this ploy continues to sold be to idiots who buy into it. An industrially created diamond is identical to any natural and that adds to the debunking of this fallacy. I’m not even sure this is even true for what’s considered large stones.
what IS rare is this planet...THE ONLY ONE....n here we are destroying it for glints of glitter. THAT is the true depravity.
@@michelebourke4340 Absolutely true! Humans SUCK!
@@peek2much3 Many many people profit from the labour that comes with finding, cutting diamonds etc, if he and other rich people would not buy this a lot of people would be out of a job, bit weird u say humans suck etc, please judge less
And so much people are very hungry each day..!!!It's a disgrace to waste so much diamonds in a stupid car..!
literally you can not eat diamond... and lucky to those who produce these diamonds because they found a buyer and they got money to buy foods and other things they need.
While millions of people die each year from lack of food & clean water, for some the main preoccupation and meaning of existence is decorating cars with diamonds!?!
Devastating, we are deserving the flood!
Very informative :)
Interesting video. Sadly the owner of the car, probably has no idea of the work that went into the making of his gaudy car.
J'adore votre travail Monsieur Voillot.
Great video, but i hate the end part.. lavish Arabs, while people struggles to survive..!!!
Muito lindo os Diamonds.😎👍
Great video
Awesome. Love it.
tenho de 67 kilates outros muitos bonitos de todas as cores!...
Jesus Christ, how wealthy that UAE guy must be to have 10,000 brown diamonds custom installed into a one-off luxury car dashboard. I'd bet that the cost of the logistics of locating, planning, cutting, sizing and installing the 10k diamonds is just as costly as the diamonds themselves!
Thank you Gus all information
Kalimantan or borneo is the only place in Indonesia where diamonds can be found. Been there the islands forest now is almost gone for palm plantation..
Wooow 😱😱😁
Well-done! Informative, exotic, exciting. However, I must say, I would be on-edge, having eight or ten of those hungry-looking dudes clustering around me, as I haggled, for valuable stones! What is to prevent several of them following you along, and finding opportunity, to whack you, over the head, for your gems?
I wouldnt be surprised if the crew had a couple armed guards that were off camera
I have ones red diamond from east kalimantan
....where ican sell it...can you help me
Mantap
I quit watching this after about 5minutes. The REALLY ANNOYING commercial streaming at the bottom of the screen keeps pulling the eye away from the the really important information - the documentary. Truly disappointing.😞😞😞
I have Australian pink.. I m diamond manufacturer from India..
Yes I m making diamond
I'm from California, USA. I also have Australian pink diamonds most are princess cut & some pear shape(not sure the official term) clarity is amazingly clear & beautiful but some stones are foggy but color is vivid, fancy pink stones.... No doubt, for pricing visit California & send me email, pics available serious buyers only please.
@44:34 Covering an Aston Martin's interior in diamonds, for a rich UAE client. They have run out of ideas and have no where else to wear/put their jewellery so they bejewel their cars?! Absolutely ridiculous! The diamonds would be more valuable if they were still in the ground.
@48:26 Finished product looks tacky! No different than Caligula's palace filled with Filigree gold + gemstones gleaming in the candlelight 2500 years ago.
Actually they are worthless in the ground until they are polished. Also think of it this way, those poor people would not be able to earn a living. You can only have so many farmers or fisherman.
I loved the car!❤️
I have 1 red diamond large 1. I found it in the river. But I don't know where and how to sell it. I'm from borneo too..
Hi bro..u from borneo?sabah or srawak?
@Ebby Erica thats a nice thing to have, maybe you can keep it.
Nice
the last sentence in this documentary epitomises the level of insanity of these current times. i hope the Mother exerts unparalleled revenge.
I've been loving these videos for the last week but the narrator talking over English in English is annoying.
agreed...... incredible pre-production and videography, and very poor post production....... amateur-ish.....
Wow I got diamonds like that but I found them in Texas from a diamond mine I got but mine are alot bigger than those
Why is English being "translated" to English? Way unnecessary. Love everything else.
Smileyrie James It’s like when you’re telling a story to a friend and someone is constantly talking over you to try to tell it also.
@Smileyrie James Some do.
🤣🤣🤣I was saying that in my head. Obviously it wasn’t clear enough for use 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Rich Thompson hahahahahaa...
❤indonesia
I can't believe the diamonds in the Aston Martin , really people are starving and this rich dude is putting diamonds on a car he will rarely drive. God forbid he recks and there goes all his precious diamonds all over the highway! That would be just a small loss for this rich guy. I personally, would be embaressed to have a car like that. Their are literally mal- nurished starved orphans and elderly who can not work to support themselves. They live in trash heaps at the dumps there. i feel so sad for them, their own country, community dont want to help them, but they have diamonds on their dashboard? This is their people and this is how they are treated? Like the trash heaps they live in. They have to steal food to eat! There are so many children who are starving and they are punished harshly for stealing food, in which a child and elderly, should never have to go hungry. The elderly have done their part for society and the children are the future and the product of these people's city, and this is how they are treated, but you have diamonds though? Right? To me that embaressing.
