Another thing to keep in mind with fast fashion brands like Claire's is that most of their jewelry is usually dipped or copper plated and it's made out of a cheap metal called Cadmium which in children and children overly ingest it it can cause liver toxicity.

I've worked with Cadmium as a grad student. Very strict rules about NEVER touching it without leather gloves, and NEVER touching the surfaces of those gloves that made contact with the metal.
      It's that toxic!

It's beyond disheartening that people are so obsessed with such materialistic vanity items that vast quantities are needed to supply the appetite. It's as if we aren't facing other vastly more important issues that impact our very existence on this planet.
Sure, I absolutely adore nice jewelry but I look at this junk and don't understand the utter tackiness. If I can't afford white gold, I'm fine with silver. Semi precious stones are so much more beautiful than cheap giant chunks. Jewelry should enhance not dominate. Still it's a sad statement about younger generations priorities that demand so many vanity items to feel they fit into a society that places such value on appearances. Truly a disposable era. Disposable clothing and accessories that all accumulate "elsewhere". Usually baled and shipped to third world countries where there burned in huge pouting heaps. Only a small amount recyclable.

I solder silver jewelry. I sometimes try to sell it. Yes, it does take a lot of time, plus the cost of legit sterling silver. It hurts when people price compare my quality jewelry to chinese-factory made jewelry at pop-up markets; I can't compete. I haven't tried going to a pop-up market since July (it's December now).

Thank you for working with real silver! I try to find locally hand crafted real silver jewelry and am always disheartened to find out parts are not real silver. On the rare occasion I do find a real silver Smith, I pay the extra cost because it is the only way to guarantee that I won't have an allergic reaction. It makes more sense to have classic pieces of high quality. Fast fashion cheap jewelry stands out and looks bad

Hi! I used to work for an online seller of fashion jewelery located in Bulgaria and we get items from Ali Express. Sometimes there is no indication of the material of the jewelry, so the information is left blank. It will be the customer's decision if he will purchase the item that can be way up the market price based on the quality of the materials it is made of. Therefore, he can be ripped off over a cheap jewelry. Thanks for the documentary DW! It's an eye-opener about the fashion jewelry nowadays! Keep it up! 🎉

I have intentionally chosen to NOT 🚫 purchase products that are made in China, and would encourage my fellow consumers to do that also. If you cannot afford the real thing, why purchase an imitation? You're looking so cheap trying to look expensive. That's just an ick 😖

😅Mr.T wrote heavy chains before it became cool in hip-hop/rap. If industries are selling cheap shiny jewelry, could it be that people want to buy more shiny jewellery because its really cheap now, and not because they're trying to emulate some hip-hop/rap artist??
This video is clearly scapegoating an entire music genre with no real evidence, they didn't talk to customers and ask why they're buying those pieces? or if customers bought anything because of a hip-hop/rap artist? nope just speculating and blaming brown ppl without any actual evidence, again. Not even a chart to show sales of jewellery increasing with certain music sales, NONE OF THAT! Nope! it's there brown people music doing this. Add to all that, they can't even point to a specific brand that they're talking about that any hip-hop/rap artist owns or has a stake in, but the hip-hop/rap artists are the ones fueling this?
Im not even a fan of hip-hop/rap, dare i say, most if the time i don't like their music but the association and putting the blame on that industry is very ridiculous especially when you see that they offered no evidence as to how they came to that conclusion, they speculated so hard, i got offended for a genre that i don't like.

It's the opposite of culture....it's not even music. It's something even those with tin ears and no rhythm can do. There's a reason it's been ridiculed and lampooned to death.

@ The music may not be to everybody’s taste level but you cannot deny its impact on popular culture. Its influence on fashion, film & television has permeated throughout the West and beyond. It may not be ‘high art’ but it certainly meets the definition of culture.

If EU doesn't Want people buying cheaper jewllery then make the Good jewlleries cheaper and more affordable.
