  • I do want to start of by apologizing for the short videos this last couple weeks. I've just been thinking on the layout plan like crazy and now I finally have come to a conclusion on what I'm doing. It wont be as prototypical but thats okay. Back to normal longer episodes next week!

Another idea is put storage tanks at that warehouse and use it as a food processor. 2 boxcars, 1 corn syrup tank and 1 hopper all in one industry. Will make an interesting scene when you dont have to switch all the cars at once

I like that very much. I may have to think of some real companies that I can put at that industry for that

I am a freelancer myself, to me it makes it more fun, not having to worry about the details so much. Looking good!

The continuing battle: what you want vs what space you have vs what you can afford. 😞
Glad to see you’re making progress. Love the videos.

A little behind in videos but I do like the change to freelance…opens up a lot of options you choose and not stuck with a set plan…the change will give you a nice future diesel facility

Great plans. That is a nice looking building. It is pricey but would look great. Nice update and thanks for sharing. Dave

With the amount of space you have to work with, it's completely understandable that you would have to take "artistic license" and have the lay out be "inspired" by the prototype. Still, you're packing a lot into a small area. You'll be running all kinds of operations! You would be a valuable member to any MRR club. 😉👍😸🚂

Best advice I got when starting my layout this past winter was “it’s YOUR layout” make it how you want and can afford. Your craftsmanship is really good and if your anything like me the job of building and planing the layout is as much fun as running the trains. Love the videos and keep up the great work!

I agree with the others about relaxing adherence to the prototype. I opted for a little less realism (in terms of placement of things) but am happy I did. Also, don't make things too flat. Even Kansas has some hills.

I’m glad you agree. Sometimes we have to adapt and that’s all apart of the fun! Also yes good reminder, I’ll be sure to add some dimension to the landscape

It is usually a good idea to complete your track plan on paper or something ahead of actually building it that way you don't go back and have to tear up stuff you built multiple times like you've been doing.

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 года назад

True, that would be far more convenient but nothings been too difficult to change luckily and I’m still having fun haha

Great video mate. I think a mix of both freelance and prototypical is a good idea as It will make for some intresting scenes for the layout. Looking forward to seeing the diesel depot area. - Nicholas.

Super cool idea for the warehouse! Was really hoping you'd do something awesome with that "stretch of track that runs into oblivion" 😂 Can't wait for you to get those crossings working! You should definitely add some of those larger crossings too for a large road crossing.

I'll say again, get the anyrail free software. You can place 50 pieces of track for free and If you do it right you can do a section at a time save it and have your while layout done for free!
Loving the vids. Keep up the great work!

Great video TR and definitely do your layout like you want it! How you've layed everything out looks great and to have it accommodate how you want to run your operations of switching etc. That building looks great next the track. The more I look at yours makes me want to do a layout as such instead of a square layout. Thanks for sharing this series with us along with your time and effort!

You don't really need all of those little nails. With foam they really aren't holding anything. Use some push pins to hold the track in place while the glue dries and then remove them. That's much less difficult than the little nails and the pins can be used again.

“F&$@ prototyping, if it looks realistic to me and I enjoy it, then it’s awesome.”
