The commentary, especially at the end makes it even more exciting, the guys sound as stoked as the viewers, something you just don't get enough of in live surfing

John was deeper than Jamie at backdoor so he had priority. Jamie knew he was too late he just wanted his presence known to try and put some pressure on John John
Not many people can keep up with JJ in a paddle battle, and like Alex said JJ was already deeper for back door pipe. He just needed that little jump and it was all over.
JOB was celebrating way to early it cost him and for that Poopies had to do stupid stuff for the next 4 years after this event so Red Bull could justify paying a guy to surf his home break and never travel
last wave was overscored, but he still beat Jamie by a hair, that backdoor wave was maybe not quite as big as Jamie's lower score, but he really faded and tucked himself in and it spit like 3 times so you couldn't even tell for a second that he had made it out.
