I think it’s a great idea. The cards I’ve created are similar, but I like the poster for easy group identification. The only challenge is what if some students are absent from a particular group that day. The cards I’ve designed take that into account. Let me know if you’d like to see them. Once again, great idea!
If you use a grid formation in the gym, (say for attendance or stretching, or instruction), they already have a letter/number combo that gives them their own personal space at an intersection. You'd just need to post the grid in the gym (I use A-H columns, 1-4 rows).

Love the idea. I have 5 classes of 18-24 kids at a time for lower grades. Any suggestions on how to keep groupings small?
