@@GhostCell47 yeah i agree, there is a plot hole here and there and what the hell moment, but then, if you understand the whole picture and lore it might be well, better then the DMC reboot, IMO
@@ActionSebastian Read the manga and compare to the game's narrative. The manga has a better story than the game, because the way it was written was properly structured and executed.
Now finally in DMC 5 both of them finally realize the importance of the sides they hated about themself all along ... dante realizes the significance of demonic power and vergil realizes the importance of humanity .... Perfect ...
@Carlo Mejia that was not Vergil ... It was a part of him ... The real Vergil at the end of the game was willing to cut off the roots and close the portal ... Don't tell me he did that because he got defeated by nero ... Dante hanged out with him since all this shit happened because last time he didn't.... And also when the real Vergil came back ... This is the first time in the history of dmc he didn't brag about power even after getting his ass kicked .... If you understand dmc emotion then you should be able to tell that this Virgil is the real Vergil and he has definitely changed ...
@Carlo Mejia It wasn't the importance of humanity, the human race, but the importance of his own humanity. He realized he was stronger with than without. Without, he got destroyed by Dante. With, him and Dante once again became equals. There's also hints that this sibling rivalry isn't something he cares about too much anymore. Before he would fight with a more fiery passion, now he just seems tired with it, fighting simply out of stubbornness to not lose. I don't think he destroyed the roots to protect humanity though, he destroyed the roots because he realised he had a personal stake in keeping the world alive, his son Nero. He's not grown much, but he has grown.
@Carlo Mejia OOhh Boy … Vergil doesn't do shit for no purpose …. dante might do it for money but vergil wont … This game is not good at telling stories … I know … but it doesn't stop us from understanding what it is trying to say … Like V said … they are supposed to fight … who wins does not matter … Vergil forgot that for some reason (what happened after DMC3) …. Brothers fighting over their opinions …. This is the reason for the existence of this whole fuckin series …. But this time they really don't give a shit …. Truly the list time we saw """ VERGIL """ was in DMC3 … we saw him again in at the end of DMC5... so where you are referring a character as the son of sparda , brother of dante ""VERGIL"" is important ….
@@GhostCell47 what plot holes? Plot convinience's, inconsistencies and alot of room for speculation maybe, but i honestly cant think of any plot holes at the moment.
@@99knives22 How DMC5 is after sequel to DMC2, where Dante got his Majin Form on DMC5? Why Dante from DMC2 turns into a quiet, mature, and serious character into a goofball in DMC4? What happened with Vergil when he had Nero, and where's Nero's mother? What ever happened to Lucia? There's so many unanswered questions, and parts of the story doesn't even add up. They should have hired creative writers and editors to create the story, before they released the game.
GhostCell47 dmc2 has majin, yes. dmc5 has sin DT on the other hand. similar functions, but evidently different forms. as for the contrast of personality between 2 and 4, i like to think of it as dante finding out he has a living family member in nero and subsequently becoming a bit more chipper. note that he still isnt the goofball he was in 3, but just a bit of a snark with a silver tongue. plus, depression comes in waves. dante is clearly depressed in the anime (ie drinking his sorrows away, wanting to be left alone) and we can retcon this into his characterization in 2 being his lowest point. sometimes you just have better days than others, though, yknow?
@Flower KickZ To add to that, Sparda wears purple, which is a mix of blue and red, so by Vergil wearing blue it doubles down on Vergils thing of thinking that his Human side is a weakness since the color red is associated with his human mother.
If you think about it, the points explained here are exactly why Dante agreed to plunge down to Hell with Vergil at the end of DMC5. As you have stated that he took up the role of mentoring others in the line of devil hunting, he already saw that potential in Nero but he also realized that the boy was nowhere near ready to be entrusted with such task. But after the events of DMC4, Dante came to accept Nero as a capable devil hunter in his own right. With people he wanted to protect around him, someone he loved beside him, and the power he needed to protect them, Dante believed that Nero had everything he needed to be the next Legendary Devil Hunter, in charge of defending humanity from demonic threats after Dante's passing. Hence why he entrusted Yamato to him, and also gave him permission to use his shop's name for Nero's own devil hunting shop. And that's why he can feel at ease when he left for the demon world for the last time in DMC5, because he knew that the human world is left with a new guardian-- Nero, son of Vergil. "It's because you're here that we can go. We're trusting you with things on this side, capisce?" -- Dante to Nero, DMC5
It’s also worth noting the fact that he says someone needs to keep an eye on Vergil. It gives the sense that he’s continuing to take a mentor role by keeping Vergil on the right path.
@@michaelk9279 i dont think he can do anything to "keep vergil on the right path" i saw that as dante wanting to catch up with his brother now that he had started to come around and stop being an asshole, the fact that vergil not only allows but wants dante to come its enough proof that he is starting to change for the better
The way I've seen Vergil's rejection of humanity for being a weakness is because he loved his mother, and losing her obviously hurt him. So his rejection of that side of him and his pursuit of power is so that he can never be hurt again, both physically and emotionally.
I love when people really take the time to analyze "nerd" media (video games, anime, etc), just as seriously as others analyze novels or plays. There can be interesting themes and lessons to be learned that are so often ignored because of a false perception that they're just for kids. I think you're really doing us a service. Great work, as usual, on this video.
It's really frustrating when I see Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, ESPECIALLY the latter, be dismissed as dumb action shows when they really have A LOT of thematic depth. Devil May Cry and Bayonetta are probably the closest parallels to that in video games. Metal Gear Rising also seems to get a lot less analysis than other Metal Gear games. It really feels like people just ignore the depth of narratives whenever over-the-top action is a primary focus.
Absolutely true, for example, Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver were Shakespeare in video game form. Video games can, and are wonderful when they do, be epic.
DMC5 doesn't have a bad story. it wrapped up all these lose ends while paying proper homage to every step that came before it. It truly is the pinnacle of the franchise.
@M H S He turns good because of V's regret of his actions in the past, people he hurt, people he killed, including his only surviving family member. The nail on the coffin that made him a good guy is finding out that he has a son, Nero, in which he took a fancy after he saw that a being of only 1/4 demonic blood was stronger than him, a half demon, proving that his way of doing things, which was embracing solely his demonic side, was wrong... it showed him that one's humanity makes one stronger.
@M H S No one in the games ignore the atrocities Vergil caused. Him, at the end, choosing to close the portal is the start of him trying to redeem himself from his past actions. Dante doesn't exactly forgive him, he's just starting to try to befriend with his brother again, same with Vergil. Nero doesn't forget either, his decision to save him is due to the fact of his confusion of suddenly having a family and even he recognizes that both Dante's and Vergil's fight is petty and pointless. And, to be fair, that was Urizen... not exactly Vergil.
Devil May Cry overuses certain tropes and character archetypes, it's cheesy at times... And yet somehow it works and it doesn't feel like another generic storyline. It works. I think the reason is that, like you said, there are several underlying themes that shine through the over the top action and ridiculous dialogue (LiiIIiiiGHT lol). And it all comes together in a very complete experience. It's... impressive, really.
It makes sense the new timeline cause if you think about it. In the Anime Dante doesnt take demons that seriously he just staps them like they were weaklings and I think thats what's up with DMC2 Dante he has become so much stronger than the Demons are not even a challenge for him. Until he mets Argosax, Right Before Dante finishes Argosax he smiles which to me I think is that Dante considered Argosax as worthy foe. And by smiling he says "Yeaah Let's go all the way to hell" something that I think the Dante from 3 and 1 would say. What Im saying is that after his fight with Argosax he has regain his cocky style attitude and then the events of 4 came and we know how awesome he was.
Dante The Demon Slayer After his lost brother twice in a row in dmc 3 and 1, you can clearly see he lost his cocky attitude in anime and 90% of 2. Until he met Nero, another hybrid, he actually know that he’s not the only one half demon half human besides his lost brother, so he was happy again and regain his traditional behave as in dmc3
DMC 3 story was, is and forever will be the best in the series. The atmosphere, the dialogues, the characters, Arkhams` plan and his reveal as Jester... And the choreography in cutscenes, just pure awesomness. The story of Dante and Vergil rivarly was very cool and touching too. Just finished DMC V on Devil Hunter and im going for Son of Sparda now) Probably the second best DMC after my favourite third
@@jeremiahbriney4899 Practice using RG. Make sure the RG meter is maxed out and then you'll be able to unleash a powerful counter. RG is the primary style I use against Vergil's final form.
DMC2 is often left out of analysis videos or merely mentioned as being the "Dante is sad" episode, but I enjoy how it's given proper presence here thematically, especially considering 4 echoes it.
Wait, was I the only person who was playing the Devil May Cry games for the plot more than the gameplay? Yeah, they're tacky and cliche at times, but I've really been enjoying the story since I bought the trilogy pack for the Playstation 2 years ago. I never even really tried to get S Ranks until like my third playthrough of DMC4 when using all the different characters. The reason I was upset about the DmC reboot *was* because it seemed to be trying to kill the dumb but fun plot I liked so much. I'm just glad DMC5 is picking it back up.
Nah man, I always played these for the story and the suprisingly deep emotional undertones. Like, I love the Vergil bossfights with all the tactics and technicalities, but nothing gives me that bittersweet feeling when Dante emerges afterwards and talks to Lady about devils never crying, or when Lady finally kills her father, but breaks down afterwars. Great stuff.
The true Devil May Cry fans care about the gameplay, then comes the story. Hideaki puts his heart and soul more into the gameplay mechanics and that's why we gotta do the game justice, it's an insult if you play his game with pressing Triangle X3
The whole statement of DMC being way deeper than the classic series just goes to show that most would rather give praise to Easy, Melodramatic "Art" which may pander to their misery; then something that can challenge both their perceptions on seemingly simple works and their will against challenges which may ultimately resolve the very misery they fight. I know that's what the series has done for me, and even if DMC5 somehow bombs, I'll always appreciate that about Devil May Cry; Hell, about Gaming itself.
Devil May Cry 3 is a true Shakespearean tragedy and Dante he is a character who develops and makes other characters develop too Edit:Holy shit 657 likes?! Thank you
DMC3 is the Hot Topic of DMC games. If it wasn't for the some of the weapons and the Chess battle, i wouldn't have even bothered to like it. Because i can't stand this game's portrayal of Dante and Vergil. DMC3 sits even lower in the ranking than DMC2 for me. that's quite sad. DMC1 Dante was a lovable bastard and the Nelo Angelo fights were some of the best in the series. DMC3 Dante is cringey asshole and Vergil is a one-note character with daddy issues.
I always saw a lot o depth in DMC:’s themes such as family responsibility and Finding a sense of purpose and growing up but people just never saw the signs of it all they never took into account about how subtle the story writing is because it’s supposed to make you think but people just pay attention to the badassness of the combat and character personalities understandably but I always saw the underlying story and I’m really glad you put out a video on it
FUCKIN' THANK YOU! I've been trying to tell people that DMC is deeper than it looks. And I adore the character Dante for all the same reasons of seeing him grow and progress as a character. A thing I do wanna add we see him actually see him mature through out the series. We start with him being really immature and cocky and through out we see him mild down and mature and learn from experiences and teach others, he isn't afraid to enjoy his work too as we seen. He's comfortable and is happy to help other's lead a good path. The DMC reboot with Donte however... Oh I could make an essay about it. All it is is an edgy adaptation with no heart or love for the characters. Donte is everything that we know and love of our white haired cowboy. Even taking the nostalgia glasses he's a poorly written character and the game itself is poorly thought out. The Dante we know and love however is a deep character. We seen him struggle and even when he's uninterested he's more than happy to at least step in to help others. He pushes himself to be better even when he isn't aware of it. And for me at least.. That's some of the reasons why I love Dante
The huge diference between japanese devs and western devs... that, from my own experience.. Is that japanese devs are going the Show... but dont Tell way of doing things. Whille western devs are Show BUT also tell. Japan wants you to experience the game yourself. To explore and see things for yourself. To come up with your own conclusion to things. To read how people react, what is said. How its said and when its said. Whille western devs have to make sure you know about everything that is hapening, what is hidden between the lines and tone and so on. Because they see people are mentaly retarded that they cant figure things out themselves. You see it a bit to much today when it comes to characters. Where there is no real mystery about people or stories in a video game. Everything is explained. And the things that you DONT want to know, they tell you those things anyway. Because you need to know everything about a character... Not leaving anything for you to imagin... or think could be a possibility. Japanese devs give you a character, they have their personality, past and so on... But they dont really go all out when it comes to a character. ONLY the important bits. Reasons behind what makes them who they are. Nothing more. Nothing pointless. The rest, you have to uncover..: or imagine. What was their past like. Because these character NEED to have so sort of mystery to them. What they have done in the past. We dont need to know that right NOW. Right now is what we are there for. We get snipets of what the person is like by their actions. You can see a hero walk past a bush... a bright red rose is sticking out.. he gets angry and shoots it with a gun. Making you wonder, WHY. What hapened in the past to make him so angry over a red rose. In a western game they would stop there, go into his head right after he shot that rose and explain everything.
Yes! So much can be seen through how characters react- facial animations, movement, there's just so much to dig into. That's why I love FFXII. There's just _so, so much_ to dig into- the glances between two of the villains, and the way they'd greet each other, revealed tons about their relationship. Little moments of tenseness or silence, seemingly inocuous quips here and there, accents mattering _a lot,_ a tale of two empires almost going to war overhead... needless to say, I was very, very obsessed for -months- _years._ I felt that was missing from Mass Effect, for example. The games were really, really blatant- well, there was Mass Effect 3, which all but said outright Shepard was being Indoctrinated (It was obvious- dreams, oily shadows, wierd reaper sounds all over, really obvious kid hallucination, big time ending hallucination, Saren and Illusive Man-esque choices at the end...), and people didn't get it when it wasn't spelled out literally >.< American gamers expect the game to blab on and on, and _repeat stuff over and over again_ to the point you feel you're being whacked over the head with *understand me! understand me! Deep themes! Deep themes! I swear! Deep! **_Whack!_* E.g. I understand the story of MGS, KH, most FF titles, fairly well. They're not _that_ complicated, and sometimes have plot holes because if you get enough games it happens- movies or books have that too. For story, I get my fix mostly with japanese and indie games, or older western titles. Fallout 1 and 2 had a fair bit to munch on. I love Baldur's Gate.
@@Olivia-W You're really citing FFXII as a show don't tell story? xD People here seem to be describing pieces of media as if they are exactly how they percieve or extrapolate them to be rather than what they are. I've played FFXII about 5 times because I love the gameplay and the last time I tried really hard to work out what was actually happening in the plot but even the direct monologue about all the different countries and wars went right over my head because the characters *constantly* have to deliver exposition to the player about almost every single thing in the game whilst being bested only by FFXIII in how one dimensional they really are from a character standpoint. The characters don't even seem like they even remotely like/dislike/have any feeling towards the other characters.
@@TheRetroPerspective Ok, FFXII's story is... not for everyone, and in the latter part falls apart pretty badly. I do recommend watching the cutscenes as one giant movie, too. The basic rundown is- two Empires, Archadia and Rozzaria, two teeny kingdoms between, Nabradia and Dalmasca. Archadia expands, crushes Nabradia, Dalmasca fights back, king of Dalmasca gets offed by Judge Magister Gabranth posing as twin bro Basch (admittedly convoluted), witnessed by Vaan's big bro Rex. Dalmasca surrenders. Time passes (~1-2 years I think), Vayne Solidor comes to Rabanastre, capital of Dalmasca, to be consul. Vaan and Penelo watch the speech, then there's the banquet. The resistance, led by princess Ashelia, attacks during the banquet, while Vaan is sneaking around and finds the treasure room and the Dusk shard. Vaan meets Balthier and Fran (who seem like partners who've been through some shit together), they all run because guards, the _Ifrit_ bombs part of Rabanastre because whatever Judge Magister is giving orders up there in the sky is a moron and/or possibly has a grudge against Vayne and hopes the aerial assault will kill him. I could go on, but I'm probably boring you... ok, they could have delivered some of this better- or just made a summary of what happened in the bestiary. Edit: name correction
It is incredible how many themes are contained within this series. Character growth, evolution, rivalry, but also keeps that in each entry. How many action titles still adapt this narrative? This is why DMC has a leg up on concepts. It is deep. And I love it
@Nikzedik It baffles me how people actually think DmCs plot is deeper than DMCs. Oh yeah, big bad company with big evil mastermind that main characters need to stop because consumerism bad, and power corrupts, and corruption bad is such a deep plot, and not generic at all.
Nobody said it was deep, they said it was shallow, vapid and hammy and asked why it wasn't a deep masterful story like the other DMC games....then made videos entitled Devil May Cry is Deeper Than You Think where they said DMC is deep because....themes I guess...and there's kind of a plot sometimes...therefore it's deep.
As something of an amateur hobby writer, I always found this franchise to tick some boxes for me. With the nature vs nurture basis of the plot and the general overarching story. You've probably put it into better words than I could. I've had a lot of struggles in life with familial and personal abandonment issues, so I always found it really easy to sympathize with Dante at the beginning of DMC3. And I appreciate that he can come around and put his issues with his father behind him. It's something I wish was easier for me. With that in mind, I'm really interested to see how (and if) DMC5 handles Nero's relationship with Vergil, and how he interacts with our motivated boy. (If he's there.)
Dante is pretty much the representation of of light in the darkness you have to open your eyes to see the light and look towards the future. He was a dark soul who hated his lineage but came to accept it in order to bring light to the darkness.
I honestly like the moral themes of humans vs demons. Its not like netflix's (and other fantasy worlds) October faction, like humans are evil and all monsters are misunderstood.
I like to think that if Dante was split like Vergil was in DMC5 his human half would have been alot more powerful then V because Dante always cared and focused more on his human side then Vergil did
The part you talk about with the way Dante’s Devil Trigger evolved is probably my favorite part because I never really thought too much about that until this video.
Nice video! I always appreciated Lucia's campaign in DMC2 more so than Dante's but I think what you said about players overlooking her campaign because Dante's is lackluster is true. She actually has a character arc and some emotional weight to her story while Dante is kind of just there for the ride. XD
Those who claim the story was "bad" in DMC games either just remembered the gameplay and didn't pay attention to the story or mistook Dante's cheesy one-liners for bad writing. I honestly had someone try to tell me Dante didn't really have a personality beyond "cool guy" you were supposed to experience the game through. Which... is technically not wrong, at least the latter part, but if you think that's all it is then let's be honest, you're probably not playing for the lore enough to care about it or pay attention. Which is fine, just don't claim you know the story if you didn't even pay attention.
Devil May Cry made me who i am, used to play 1 and 3 so much as a kid, the soundtrack, the aesthetic, the gameplay, the clothing, EVERYTHING! recently played 5 and fell in love with the sagas again, 4 really let me down in 2008
I have touted myself for YEARS as a huge Devil May Cry fan. So much so, that I have played the reboot, enjoyed it, and defended it from both fellow (classic) dmc fans and newcomers to the franchise alike just because it was another dmc title and because, imo, the gameplay was objectively enjoyable. I have always, always, always, told people that the series isn't about the story, it's about gameplay. That it's just about looking cool in combat while pulling off ridiculously awesome combos. While that may still remain the focal point of the series, I give you major props and mad respect for proving me wrong about the story. You make your points well and back them up with in-game evidence or canonical literature. Awesome job. SSS rank for sure.
I’ve always been one of those people who’d say that story isn’t really Devil May Cry’s greatest charm, but this honestly opened a new perspective for me. Thanks, Snake.
I saw this video explaining how DMC3's story was deeper than people gave credit to it, but this was even more through despite covering the entire franchise. And thank you for sharing the video about God of War. Its annoying that people pretend that NOW Kratos has a stoey. It was always a greek tragedy. Greeks simply had a different standard for "heroes."
Devil may cry will always be my favorite game of all time, it's not perfect by any means, but it'll forever have a place in my heart, and Dante is my favorite character of all time, because there's so much more to his character then most people think, and thank you for this video, I hope people who watch this will realize just how deep the story and characters really are (P'S 7:35 that transition was sweet!)
Damn, less than a week away until DMC 5 hits the ground and you bring out such a thought provoking video. You're not making the wait any easier lol. While not devoid of any positive merits, namely some gameplay stuff, the shitty reboot just never understood the themes of the series if was supposed to improve upon. I'm still baffled on why it has Devil May Cry in its name (twice) when neither the theme nor the name is ever mentioned in game. I mean, donte is a goddamn vagabond in that story. What, was his trailer called Devil May Cry lol? If you're trying to reboot a beloved series and change an iconic characters like Dante and Vergil forever you better do such a fantastic job that everyone is impressed and they have no choice but to accept the alterations. Too bad the shitty reboot failed utterly miserably in both story and advancing the gameplay. I will admit though that DMC 5 is shaping up to be pure awesomeness probably because the shitty reboot did so poorly that Capcom needed a win in its redemption saga that they actually gave the devs time to make their games for once and it shows a lot. Hope there will be a DMC 6.
GekkanShounen Hey, hey, HEY! Leave Donte alone! In all seriousness I think that Ninja Theory assumed that witty quips and fast gameplay are the only things that define DMC. They clearly didn’t understand the nuances in the story and reduced Dante to shallow, one-note character whilst simultaneously mocking DMC Dante for assuming that he was exactly that. It’s kind of ironic really. To be honest I really enjoyed DmC’s gameplay, except for those shitty colour-type enemies. That was some artificial-difficulty bullshit.
I think a big issue with DmC: Devil May Cry is that Capcom wanted it to be "as western as possible", and at the time, everyone was going for a "Grindhouse but not grindhouse" feel with their game's stories. Just look at Hitman: Absolution if you need an example. If you look at a lot of the concept art for DmC, there were quite a few interesting ideas, but Capcom wanted what we got instead. Ninja Theory's cocky attitude about their game did NOT help what so ever.
ISAAC Lalnunzira Source or bullshit. I remember reading that DMC 5 is supposed to the end of the “Sons of Sparda” story but what you’re stating sounds ludicrous. Itsuno said that he’d love to make another DMC and considering this game is looking to be another financial success for Capcom, I doubt they’d shy away from the potential $$$. So again: Source or bullshit.
ISAAC Lalnunzira Witcher 4 will happen though. It’s inevitable. And no, please tell me what you did there. That seemed like an unnecessary insult or attempt at being humorous.
I mean sure, if a bunch of tuddlers saw a game with SEX, DRUGS and so many dick jokes then i can see why they came to the conclusion that it's more daring and deeper then a game that apears simplistic in nature but it's actually more interesting when you dive into it *... But we're actually talking about full grown adults*
The problem with DmC which bothered me the most was how FORCED their attempts of storytelling was with blatant shoving of symbolism in cutscenes and political nonsense they attempted to string into their plot. I like DMCs stories, they just fit with the universe and what they originally set out and didn't try to be too complex. I think a story is great when they hide themselves with a mask (DMC being a heavy over-the-top action game) and once you bother to analyze deeply, you appreciate it a lot more. DMC never holds your hand from gameplay and not even from a story perspective and that's just awesome. If there's anything from the reboot I enjoyed, it was the visuals. I'm kinda glad that's being carried over into DMC5 too lmao. Anyways, great video! People only analyze DMC3 which I don't REALLY blame them, but you talked about the entire series instead and especially DMC2. OH, and I believe they were planning to add "Perfect Devil Triggers" or something of the like into DMC4 at one point and with concept art of Nero and Dante's DT's as well so you're not entirely out of pocket lol.
This game series is definitely worth more than a lot of people give it credit for. Even 2 is worth a look. The same can’t be said for the Reboot. I honestly wish I had discovered this series before 2018. I sometimes wonder what it’d be if I had the original growing up.
After watching this video I have a question, can DMC5 considered Vergil's Awakening? When V comes back into himself Griffin Nightmare and Shadow decide to not come back with him to put and end to Vergil's nightmare, can we condider this like Vergil's humanity Awakening? He decides to sever the Cliphot's roots and Seal the portal with Yamato because of Nero, doesn't this make him human again? In DMC5 thanks to V we can finally see through the veil and anknoledge Vergil's humanity After all. Dante decides to follow his Brother not Just because he wants to set the master with him, but because he wants to stay by his side, fight with him in Case another mundus pop out, he doesn't want his Brother to became another Nelo Angelo, in my opinion...
I will never get why the plot of the reboot gets so much praise compared to the original series. Yes it's more up front and in your face but there's less depth, the cheesy charm is replaced with edginess for the sake of being edgy, and the characters are stripped of any likability. Dante goes from likeable asshole to just plain asshole, the girl who's name i forget has no personality compared to Trish and Lady and her conversations with Dante are stiff as a board leaving no discernable reason why she caused a change in him other than wanting to tap dat ass, Vergil has no honor and just becomes a bad guy because he was a bad guy in the original so the fans just expect it.
After completing DMC V, I was very close to cry because I know the plot of the franchise like own pocket. It is so cool and beautiful and I don't even what else.
Thank you for the video, I hated the argument that DmC reboot is better because Devil May Cry didn't have a story. Which anyone who played 3 can say is false. You're one of the few RUclipsrs, who actually analyzed DMC2 instead of skipping it with a bad joke. Anyway, great video, keep up the good work.
I'll admit that I came into the series with the reboot after seeing Shammy mention it (and later found out he didn't like it either), and after playing them al, lots of thinking and lots of videos like these, I can see the reboot in some of the negative light that most fans had when it was released. It still is very good in gameplay; but what it lacked most wasn't a simpler combat system, but a proper depth in the story experience (very laid out, but the They Live/subliminal messages do play to that strength) but most importantly didn't bring the fun, humour and charm that the good versions had. The reboot really was just mean-spirited in vision which carried out in its marketing and story. Great video, lovely stuff and am eager to see more.
yeah, the only thing that isn't canon anymore is gilver and that's about it. seems they basically adapt stories into the timeline, making alterations to the details so it all fits together
Tony Redgrave was actually the protagonist of a game! If you think about it that’s probably why Dante was surprised Arkham knew his real name, because he would have still been going by Tony in 3 before DMC officially opened.
As a huge Fan of this series, I gotta say you brought up alot of points I never considered. I played them just to kinda get that fun Rhythmic sick combos that just never end are are so satisfying. Never really thought about the entire scale as a whole.
Damn. Do you agree about the recent change in the timeline? Before it was 3142 but now it’s 3124. Apparently Dante was going through depression in 2 then begins to recover in 4. It makes sense to me because in 1, Dante kills Vergil for real (AT LEAST IN THAT TIME BEFORE 5)
It's better this way. Dante actually has a consistent personality now. 2 being right after the anime adds to Dante's overall character arc and progression, it makes DMC2 a whole lot better. It also makes the series' story as a whole really good, apart from what we've already known.
Yep I love Dante as a character & I enjoy DMC for the story and gameplay. But in regards to Trish, I honestly think Hideki Kamiya intended for Trish and Dante to be romantic partners. I get that some people are bothered by it because she looks like his mother, and you say their love is "closer to a sibling love " but there's a lot to indicate they're as Hideki Kamiya tweeted "more than that". And that's not just counting Viewtiful Joe as different facial models put on the original characters (it was Kamiya's idea to do so, why would he do that instead of swapping another female) but there's a lot of other hints: - If you look at DMC1's concept artbook Trish is kissing Dante's neck. - Eva's lullaby song (DMC1 credits song) is titled 'Dante & Trish ~ Seeds of Love'. - In the Divine Comedy (DMC's loose inspiration) Beatrice (Trish) is Dante's lover. Beyond that there's also subtle things in other games - MvC3 Trish says: “Now we know who wears the pants in the relationship.” - to Dante (victory) - DMC4 Pachinko, Trish as Gloria, Dante says: "That look suits you, I might want to pair up with you sometime" - DMC4 Pachinko, Trish and Dante dance in a few scenes, body language indicate romance, much closer than anything we see when he interacts with Lady. - DMC5 Morrison/Nico's File indicates there's no romance with Lady but something more with Trish.
Even after this well-done video, fools will still say DmC is still deeper in every way. Anyway well done with this video 4thSnake, I'm looking forward to the God Of War is deeper. People downplay Kratos too much imo.
Kratos was always deep just ask how deep to Aphrodite 😉 Kratos loved his daughter and wife his brother. As time goes he lost everybody close to him. His mother wife daughter brother for his own fault at the end of Bringing Pandora he finally grows abs accepts his faults as he doesn't want to kill Pandora. His qte with leaving his daughter to save afterlife so his daughter soul could live says all
I'm here, a year after getting back into one of my favorite series of all time And I love to remember to ppl that The anime is the moment were Dante wanted to help others who had suffer loss or were decive by demons to follow them, is just him helping others to overcome their worse moments in life to show them to not be stuck with a single dream or desire, and open yourself for more
Thank you so much for this!!!! This has been my favorite game series for the better part of 16 years and I've actually been made fun of for it. And you pointed out all the reasons as to what makes this such an amazing series!
In DMC5, it's cool how the Devil Trigger turns from humanoid to more demonic. I'm not sure if that means that he's embracing more of his demon sides but who knows!
Personally I simply cannot get over the simplicity yet perfection of the dmc3 model... Everything about it, from texture, to motion, to stance and figure, is just perfect masterpiece design.
The reason i like to play Devil May Cry and follow the original series (not reboot) is this story plot. Like someone wants to stop bad relation and their desire to protect their family. It’s indeed emotional and the way that the antagonist is not really a villain totally. I mean if only that thing didn’t happen to vergil, he wouldn’t be like this, also remember that nero would also turn like his father if Kyrie and Credo never exist in his life, but thank god they exist (they help the storyline even though Credo died). At the end finally Vergil understand how important about humanity and he could change himself. It’s literally like showing how important family is. SO EMOTIONAL 😭😭 btw i know DMC since DMC 1 but i just get really into it when DMC 5 release because that ending when Nero stop the siblings rivalry is the moment made me interested with DMC original series. Also my favorite character is Nero💖
I just wish Vergil actually cared about Nero's mom's fate since the plot has always just skimmed over how Vergil would do a human thing like bumping uglies with a human women. I hope the explanation isn't "My dad fucked so maybe I'll understand why he'd reduce himself to the *nut.* " Post-nut clarity must've been a bitch to make Vergil flee from more titty.
@@Ashhley_the_shawty i think actually he loves her but that lust of power made him blind heart and abandoned her. It’s just like “i choose power over love”. His obsession made him choose power over family. I judge totally by his character because mostly introvert character like Vergil didn’t like to do “that” if not because of love. Mostly they just wanna focus on their target/something they obsessed and ignore other thing like “that’s not my business”. Nero’s mom tragic fate also solid proof that power is not everything. He has power but he couldn’t protect nero’s mom (i believe he actually love her when they meet). This is just my assumption but this is really match with Vergil. I know this also because there’s so many male character who believe that if they had those things (money, power, position, fame, etc.) they would be the best and the one he loves would happy which means they didn’t believe in themselves. Like, nero’s mom loves him because he’s Vergil, but in his mind, she loves him because of power.
I apologize for my so called aggressive kisses I’m not. And being depressed doesn’t make you Emo. Laziness, alcoholism, and loneliness can be tell tale signs of depression.
@@GigaChadh976 Funny how Dante is none of that. Constantine and Max Payne would fit as depressive protagonists, but Dante ? He's the exact opposite of that.
Devil may cry, especially dmc3, has always been about family relationships even with all the crazy action going on. Dante vs Vergil is brother vs brother, Lady vs Arkham is daughter vs father, Trish was created by Mundus, Lucia was created by Arius, and Nero vs Vergil is son vs father probably.(hopefully V gets something, too.) It's always been about family relationships in Devil May cry and that makes me relate to the story more than any other videogame or movie or TV show even, and I wish people appreciate the story more especially sense it's simple and easy to get in to.
There's still at least one BIG hole in it that needs filling. Where was Sparda when his family and home was attacked? If he had died fighting, surely that would of been mentioned or noted by at least one of the brothers, but, no, nothing.
I thought Majin Form was a sort of instinctive last-ditch defence, that Dante couldn't use at will, before learning to harness the same power and gaining access to his Sin Devil Trigger in DMC5, since he'd only be able to activate Majin Form in 2 if he was almost killed and we'd also seen him use that power once before in his fight against Alice in DMC3 manga, at which point he couldn't even access his regular Devil Trigger yet.
I always had the mindset that Dante blamed his father for his mother's death and kills demons in honour of her but then he soon accepts his demonic half to exact poetic revenge. The term "fight fire with fire" in 4 i feel like he was somewhat depressed, almost considering to let the small town burn until he sees how Nero is motivated by doing the right thing (i feel i am wrong here). Dante could've ended the whole thing in a brisk afternoon but he doesn't and it looks like by 5 he is just average. I feel that the chronology of the games you see Dante's stages of grief, father is gone, mother is dead, brother is alive then missing then undead then well depending on the stake of Devil May Cry 5 possibly alive. By the end of it all, Dante is alone in the world but he created his new family with everyone on his adventures and he has a job to do. Side note: he could've ran away from all of the chaos and started a family but he didn't, he stood by the chaos and turned it into peace.
Dmc has always had good story and themes than just gameplay(I thought everyone knew that). But, Dmc(reboot) I think also has some notable themes too just not in comparison to the the og. Themes like corrupted politics, society, or seeing the world for what it is for yourself I think people overlook in that game. Regardless I enjoy practically all the Dmc games which are not only challenging but has alot of depth.
The gameplay of dmc2 may not be good enough for me to wanna revisit it. But the visuals, the best looking dante, and the fucking awesome soundtrack are certainly enough.
About the Reboot, i think it's depth is more a kind of a "mature" plot ( it could be worked better to look less teenager aesthetics, but life goes on, we have to capture the new young public, marketing strategies ). The classic plot it's about individuals and choices, good theme and excelent development, but in the reboot, we have ( and could have a more depth into it if there was a sequence) a political, social and marketing critics that are themes of heavy discussion in academics e activism areas, on how the concepts of opacity and transparency in the media affects the public opinion, the links between political , media and society are a kind of false democracy cause society(mainly the ones with more USA influence, like here in Brazil, in Argentina, Australia, Japan have it in a low level, but it does) choices is based on the bombardment of very worked information in a proposital way to influence them, the concept what's good product, a good quality of life and the way you have to live ( big car, big house, big TV, all this USA shit). I think if there was a lot more of studies with specialists on these themes, it would have looked so much more fucking good and mind blowing. Cause on the gameplay question, they are always perfect, no complains about it in my opinion. Well, cheers from Brazil, loved the video! ;)
This video makes me so happy! You hit the depth of the characters that new hunters just getting into 5 might not know. Seen alot of people playing 4 for the first time. I'm glad devil may cry is getting the attention it deserves.
Finally!! THANK YOU!!! Here I had lost hope on humanity a long time ago and you make exactly the same points I've been trying to tell people for years (although I'm still not completely ok with the timeline change)
Honestly, when you speak about Vergil’s motives, it makes me appreciate and understand Vergil’s psychological trauma and inner turmoil. Even if he is still kind of a dick, a bit less Dick-ish in DMC5 and I’ll get back to that later, he has his reasons for locking away his emotions and anything that made him feel...well, *feel*. He rejected humans, his emotions, his past, his existing family, and his life in general, and only wanted the megalomaniac desires that drove him to this point. This is supported even more in the likes of DMC5. Tearing his son’s arm off just to get back his trademark blade, ripping away his humanity to birth V, and eating a fruit more dense than the blood of thousands of humans. But the thing that is different about DMC5 Vergil is that...he’s actually MUCH different compared to other games. Sure, there’s his design, but that’s called aging people. But what I’m specifically talking about are his specific looks and his personality. First, his looks, take a good look at DMC5 Vergil. He has a lot of V in his facial structure, could be just me and some other folk but I think this is significant. But the most important part is his personality. When Vergil arrives at the top of the Qliphoth Tree, he says something along the lines of: “If our places were switched, would our paths be different? Would I have your life? And you mine?” This is important because, when you think about it, Vergil would NEVER in a million years think of that in the past due to his much stronger disdain for Dante. But it’s different here since, in my current belief, V must have had some change on Vergil’s mindset. His tone of voice seems more mellow, more at peace somehow. He isn’t as cold as before and isn’t as much of a smartass. He’s calm, cool, and a bit more relaxed and casual. You can even see him humor Dante more than usual in the ending scene with him and Dante fighting off demons and each other where dialogue goes as I remember. Dante: “Score one for me. I’m up one!” Vergil: “Where did you learn to count? We’re even.” Dante: “You know, I’m beginning to think...this will never end.” Vergil: “Maybe...we got plenty a’ time.” He has much more relaxed dialogue with Dante, as if they’re almost having a real conversation, at least somewhat. Maybe I’m overthinking this, some might say. You could be right, but hey, that’s just my point of view. (Some influences come from Super Best Friends Play)
The thing about Dante being hate his father is actually mistranslate. In japan he does say "Father? he has nothing to do with this" This the same case with DMC 5 who had more mistranslate in cutscenes, like Urizen say he didn't remember his home and Eva. But in Japanese he say "it doesn't matter anymore"

DMC 5 tells us where Vergil’s hatred towards Dante comes from. He said though Eva loved Dante more. Because she saved him first and died trying to get to his brother. Which he felt like his mother abandon him. From just his perspective.
Lore has always been there even though it has not always been portrayed very well in this series, that's why I really feel that the latest game hit is out of the park. Even to those casual/newer fans of the series that aren't engrossed in the lore quite yet, the storytelling and emotions felt by each individual character were on point this time and really emphasized the trademark atmosphere they've grown over nearly two decades. They've always had the combat down, the characters are unique and recognizable (even Nero came into his own much more in this last game), and the up front storytelling of DMC5 was the final nail in the coffin. Honestly, looking for to the DLC and the next installation all the more after playing this one.
This was amazing, thank you for the clarity I love the devil may cry series and you pointed out things I hadn't noticed also I do agree with the new time line I just have the same question how'd dante get out of hell and what was he looking for
You can tell who didn't play devil may cry as a kid because they weren't intimidated by the castle and stand in awe of the divinity statue theme. Go ahead and tell me that shit ain't Deep and full of meaning.
Great analysis! Playing reboot I got impression it wanted to deal without some serious topics but all of that was just characters talking. In previous games characters were taking actions, they developed, learned. Actions speak louder than words.
I'm not gonna spoil, but DMC 5 basically solidifies your pitch on the theme of love, and the importance of caring for others.
But the way the story was told is pretty awful.

@@damnedattendant2536 "what kind of power is this" vergil literally a hour after being combined together.

But it has a lot of plot holes.
"Vergil is MOTIVATED by..." 10/10, could have stop watching here

Brainwave 101 it’s the coolest line ever.
GOH YEE HIN - check out Best Friends Play DMC1.
I never noticed until now the significance of Eva being shown wearing red just like her son.
@Flower KickZ To add to that, Sparda wears purple, which is a mix of blue and red, so by Vergil wearing blue it doubles down on Vergils thing of thinking that his Human side is a weakness since the color red is associated with his human mother.
Oh, wow, so symbolic, I'm dying right now...come on.
And if you see closely, the inside of Vergil's coat is indeed, red.
But what about Nero? Is he an exception from this?
@@ismaelnovas1997 nero wears both blue AND red showing his ability to see the world from the beginning and not being clouded like his father or uncle
@socially unacceptable seriusly?
Johnny Horsepower And we see the ultimate realisation of that rejection soon enough in 4 days 😏

I love when people really take the time to analyze "nerd" media (video games, anime, etc), just as seriously as others analyze novels or plays. There can be interesting themes and lessons to be learned that are so often ignored because of a false perception that they're just for kids. I think you're really doing us a service.
Great work, as usual, on this video.
stanj85 great comment
It's really frustrating when I see Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, ESPECIALLY the latter, be dismissed as dumb action shows when they really have A LOT of thematic depth. Devil May Cry and Bayonetta are probably the closest parallels to that in video games. Metal Gear Rising also seems to get a lot less analysis than other Metal Gear games. It really feels like people just ignore the depth of narratives whenever over-the-top action is a primary focus.
except when it's dragonaball, that shit has the worst fantards that will defend it to last breath.
@M B lmao dissing Joseph Anderson while recommending mauler ok kid
Absolutely true, for example, Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver were Shakespeare in video game form. Video games can, and are wonderful when they do, be epic.
DMC5 doesn't have a bad story. it wrapped up all these lose ends while paying proper homage to every step that came before it. It truly is the pinnacle of the franchise.
He wasn’t talking about DMC 5
Are u high he isn't talking about dmc 5
@M H S V... V is the entire thing that proves the whole redemption thing... that's why Urizen exists.
Nice.
Until the DMC5 prequel novel revealed that he doesn't even remember Argosax. lol

Gameplay first
Came for the gameplay, stayed for both story and gameplay
Finally a man of culture
Devil May Cry 3 is a true Shakespearean tragedy and Dante he is a character who develops and makes other characters develop too

DMC3 Dante is cringey asshole and Vergil is a one-note character with daddy issues.
@Branden Lucerno thats becouse DMC3 is prequel to DMC1. Thats why Dante is different.
Little moments of tenseness or silence, seemingly inocuous quips here and there, accents mattering _a lot,_ a tale of two empires almost going to war overhead... needless to say, I was very, very obsessed for -months- _years._
I felt that was missing from Mass Effect, for example. The games were really, really blatant- well, there was Mass Effect 3, which all but said outright Shepard was being Indoctrinated (It was obvious- dreams, oily shadows, wierd reaper sounds all over, really obvious kid hallucination, big time ending hallucination, Saren and Illusive Man-esque choices at the end...), and people didn't get it when it wasn't spelled out literally >.<
American gamers expect the game to blab on and on, and _repeat stuff over and over again_ to the point you feel you're being whacked over the head with *understand me! understand me! Deep themes! Deep themes! I swear! Deep! **_Whack!_*
Okay so Here I am figuring out how to write a good story. So yeah as thanks I give you like
@@Olivia-W You're really citing FFXII as a show don't tell story? xD People here seem to be describing pieces of media as if they are exactly how they percieve or extrapolate them to be rather than what they are.
@@Olivia-W You should write Final Fantasy's in game encyclopedia entries. Next tell me everything interesting about the Cieth, L'cie and Fal'cie. xD
It is incredible how many themes are contained within this series. Character growth, evolution, rivalry, but also keeps that in each entry. How many action titles still adapt this narrative?
This is why DMC has a leg up on concepts. It is deep. And I love it
Finally somebody who makes sense.
Your dmcs plot videos are consistent very thought provoking
@Whipper of Merchants XD
Well hello recommended RUclips video
This is exactly what I've been looking for
Same..
Exactly.
I honestly like the moral themes of humans vs demons. Its not like netflix's (and other fantasy worlds) October faction, like humans are evil and all monsters are misunderstood.
I like to think that if Dante was split like Vergil was in DMC5 his human half would have been alot more powerful then V because Dante always cared and focused more on his human side then Vergil did
"Comes along to help other good demons"
Makes it even deeper when I see him in SMT: Nocturne
The part you talk about with the way Dante’s Devil Trigger evolved is probably my favorite part because I never really thought too much about that until this video.
Nice video! I always appreciated Lucia's campaign in DMC2 more so than Dante's but I think what you said about players overlooking her campaign because Dante's is lackluster is true. She actually has a character arc and some emotional weight to her story while Dante is kind of just there for the ride. XD
Dante says something about hitting the jackpot when he found Urizen. Now I see where he comes in.
Legit, I wanted to do a video discussing the subtle themese of DMC and why they are deeper than people think,
Thank you!
Devil May Cry made me who i am, used to play 1 and 3 so much as a kid, the soundtrack, the aesthetic, the gameplay, the clothing, EVERYTHING! recently played 5 and fell in love with the sagas again, 4 really let me down in 2008
DMC's story I honestly think is at its best when it focusses on themes of family....so 3 and 5
DMC3 has a magical vibe to it. It's timeless and even holds up today gameplay wise.
Devil May Cry is deeper than you think
*shows DMC2 Dante's old man face*
Push that square button baby!
the fact they were their colors present their personalities too. blue-vergil: calm, collected, cool. red-dante: rebellious, warm hence the rebellion.
It's always good to know when people check out the video in the shill slot as well. Glad I was able to give you two great videos for the price of one.
Greek heroes have always had something that makes true heroes interesting:

Hey, i'm interested in video in question but can't seem to find it. Can you link it for me or just tell me how it's named?
Devil may cry will always be my favorite game of all time, it's not perfect by any means, but it'll forever have a place in my heart, and Dante is my favorite character of all time, because there's so much more to his character then most people think, and thank you for this video, I hope people who watch this will realize just how deep the story and characters really are
(P'S 7:35 that transition was sweet!)
I loved all the games. Lucia was awesome and such an underutilized character.
DMC6 should introduce Dante's daughter with Lucia from DMC2. Have her be a troubled teenager that needs a purpose.
GekkanShounen
Hey, hey, HEY!
DMC 5 is the last youre gona get. This is the end for DMC even Capcom already released a statement
ISAAC Lalnunzira
Source or bullshit.
ISAAC Lalnunzira
Witcher 4 will happen though. It’s inevitable. And no, please tell me what you did there. That seemed like an unnecessary insult or attempt at being humorous.
FINALLY Someone who sees DMC2 from an artistic perspective
I always praised the story in Devil May Cry (especially 3).
This is the story that is stuck with me forever
I mean sure, if a bunch of tuddlers saw a game with SEX, DRUGS and so many dick jokes then i can see why they came to the conclusion that it's more daring and deeper then a game that apears simplistic in nature but it's actually more interesting when you dive into it
*... But we're actually talking about full grown adults*
"A goal that isn't steeped in his own inadequacies."
Wow. That hit like a truck.
Finally
Someone is smart enough to see the science behind Devil May cry
Thumbs up bro
I can’t wait until Friday. I’ve waited 10+ years of my life just to see Dante’s red jacket again. The time indeed has finally come, and so have I
Same
Dante and Nero will laugh last cause the demons came to die.
Kingdom Hearts 3 and DMC5 make 2 major conclusions I've been waiting 10 plus years for and I get them so close together lol
If I could cry, this is exactly when I would do it. Outstanding analysis!
So, you're a demon then?
@@The4thSnake
I hope 5 acknowledges how much Lady and Trish mean to Dante
Devil May Cry never got the attention it deserves and honestly I’m glad this video was made. an underrated title and is finally getting a new game
Most people didn’t really see how well developed the story got to by 3 and 4. Especially 5 looking the most story driven.
Dmc reboot was fun to play I like the originals more especially dmc 3
After completing DMC V, I was very close to cry because I know the plot of the franchise like own pocket. It is so cool and beautiful and I don't even what else.
Thank you for the video, I hated the argument that DmC reboot is better because Devil May Cry didn't have a story. Which anyone who played 3 can say is false.
You're one of the few RUclipsrs, who actually analyzed DMC2 instead of skipping it with a bad joke.
Anyway, great video, keep up the good work.
Thank you. I will.
I’d honestly argue for as simple as DMC1 was it has a better story than DmC, even without the context added by DMC3.
Can we talk about the first novel is now almost entirely canon?
yeah, the only thing that isn't canon anymore is gilver and that's about it. seems they basically adapt stories into the timeline, making alterations to the details so it all fits together
It makes sense to me because in 1, Dante kills Vergil for real (AT LEAST IN THAT TIME BEFORE 5)
Make sense
You can see him starting to get depressed in anime which now happens before 2.
It's better this way. Dante actually has a consistent personality now. 2 being right after the anime adds to Dante's overall character arc and progression, it makes DMC2 a whole lot better. It also makes the series' story as a whole really good, apart from what we've already known.
Shatdamouth BOYAH I think this way the writers had a way to retcon the end of Dante’s journey with DMC5, instead of 2 being his ending
Where does Nocturne fit in all of this?
There is actually blueprints for a sort of Majin Trigger in DMC4 that was scrapped because, as you said, it was unfinished.
Great job. Devil may cry's story is one I really love and I am glad to see somebody else has noticed it for what it truly is.
And that's not just counting Viewtiful Joe as different facial models put on the original characters (it was Kamiya's idea to do so, why would he do that instead of swapping another female) but there's a lot of other hints:
- If you look at DMC1's concept artbook Trish is kissing Dante's neck.
- Eva's lullaby song (DMC1 credits song) is titled 'Dante & Trish ~ Seeds of Love'.
- In the Divine Comedy (DMC's loose inspiration) Beatrice (Trish) is Dante's lover.
Beyond that there's also subtle things in other games
- MvC3 Trish says: “Now we know who wears the pants in the relationship.” - to Dante (victory)
- DMC4 Pachinko, Trish as Gloria, Dante says: "That look suits you, I might want to pair up with you sometime"
- DMC4 Pachinko, Trish and Dante dance in a few scenes, body language indicate romance, much closer than anything we see when he interacts with Lady.
Kratos was always deep just ask how deep to Aphrodite 😉
Kratos loved his daughter and wife his brother. As time goes he lost everybody close to him. His mother wife daughter brother for his own fault at the end of Bringing Pandora he finally grows abs accepts his faults as he doesn't want to kill Pandora.
His qte with leaving his daughter to save afterlife so his daughter soul could live says all
Kratos in the ooold ones had no personality doood the new game gave Kratos depth and the gameplay is sooo coool I love pushing the stick forward

And I love to remember to ppl that The anime is the moment were Dante wanted to help others who had suffer loss or were decive by demons to follow them, is just him helping others to overcome their worse moments in life to show them to not be stuck with a single dream or desire, and open yourself for more
Thank you so much for this!!!!
DMC1's still my favorite Dante design & voice.
Personally I simply cannot get over the simplicity yet perfection of the dmc3 model...
Everything about it, from texture, to motion, to stance and figure, is just perfect masterpiece design.
I gotta go with dmc5
Old man dante looks amazing
You should also discuss Dante’s depression and how it affects his personality/motivation.
He isn't depressive ?
I apologize for my so called aggressive kisses
He actually is. The anime solidifies this.
@@GigaChadh976 He clearly isn't. Stop trying to make Dante an emo. Jesus.
I apologize for my so called aggressive kisses
I’m not.
How can V get anything? If you payed attention to clues youd notice V is Vergils separated human half
Never understood why people say DMC never had a story...it has lore up its ass.
There's still at least one BIG hole in it that needs filling.
Where was Sparda when his family and home was attacked? If he had died fighting, surely that would of been mentioned or noted by at least one of the brothers, but, no, nothing.
@@brandonbrown6922 Crickets..
Even Dante's goofyness is his way to cope with the trauma of his mother dying
The japanese developer chad vs western developer virigin.
Yeah just look at what they did to my boi frank west
The term "fight fire with fire"
in 4 i feel like he was somewhat depressed, almost considering to let the small town burn until he sees how Nero is motivated by doing the right thing (i feel i am wrong here).
Well, cheers from Brazil, loved the video! ;)
3:48 "provides the blue print" i see what you did there
This video makes me so happy! You hit the depth of the characters that new hunters just getting into 5 might not know. Seen alot of people playing 4 for the first time. I'm glad devil may cry is getting the attention it deserves.
Been a hell of a wait.
i personally really loved devil may cry series especially 3 and 1 ;)
I’m up one!”
Vergil: “Where did you learn to count? We’re even.”
Dante: “You know, I’m beginning to think...this will never end.”
Vergil: “Maybe...we got plenty a’ time.”
He has much more relaxed dialogue with Dante, as if they’re almost having a real conversation, at least somewhat.
Maybe I’m overthinking this, some might say. You could be right, but hey, that’s just my point of view.
(Some influences come from Super Best Friends Play)
Dante was pretty chill in DMC4.
The thing about Dante being hate his father is actually mistranslate.
In japan he does say "Father? he has nothing to do with this"
This the same case with DMC 5 who had more mistranslate in cutscenes, like Urizen say he didn't remember his home and Eva.
But in Japanese he say "it doesn't matter anymore"
Actually English is the original language in dmc5 not japanese language
@@raiaanahmed8804 How is english are original when the director are japanese lmao

DMC 5 tells us where Vergil’s hatred towards Dante comes from. He said though Eva loved Dante more. Because she saved him first and died trying to get to his brother. Which he felt like his mother abandon him. From just his perspective.
So depressed after seeing Vergils face
@kollie79 his face is horrible i don't know what they were thinking
Kek
The face is the only thing about the redesign that's good. Eyes a bit small but the real problem is that muted coat and 70s iron maiden cover hair
This is the kind of content that I want, made me click the subscribe button in a matter of sec.
Yeah, I've heard good things about this Snake guy.
I'm still in awe of the divinity statue theme, and this video has plenty of it.
Great analysis! Playing reboot I got impression it wanted to deal without some serious topics but all of that was just characters talking. In previous games characters were taking actions, they developed, learned. Actions speak louder than words.
