While Paul Verhoeven's original RoboCop was a total success and directly went to become a pop-culture phenomenon, one might won't say that about its sequels. While the second movie already featured some flaws, the third one is widely regarded as the highly unsatisfying finale of the original trilogy. But as you already guessed it, of course, there is a good thing to it: After his absence from the first sequel, composer Basil Poledouris came back to score RoboCop 3 as he did it for the first one. The score luckily takes on his original material with its themes and orchestrations, being the first movie's musical sequel, staying fresh and lively as ever. It's great to know that there is more of Poledouris RoboCop music, which we can enjoy now!

You have no idea how happy today's posting makes me. Keep them coming. I loves me my Basil Poledouris whom I believe is sadly overlooked. I am so grateful for your passion for (mostly) forgotten soundtracks and this one is lovely + powerful = glorious. I am taking it out of context because I never bothered to see RC3. BTW: have you ever thought of doing a retrospective with bits of a composer's work from a particular period as opposed to one film at a time? Thank you, Fred.

Thanks Morlock for your comment! Glad you like it!
The thought of a musical retrospective comes and goes. It is a fine thought I guess but in the end you always misses something, so others and for a long run yourself won't be too satisfied with it. But the day may come!
      Fred

Is there a definitive release of 1 and 3?

Hello Daniel, yes indeed there are: For the first one there was the 23-track and 55 min. running "Intrada Special Collection Volume 129" release amzn.to/3lYkQ2d which got a re-release by Milan Records back in 2015, which is also now not too easy to find. Regarding the third movie, you will find a link in the video description leading to the "only" definitive edition: "Varèse Sarabande CD Club VCL 0916 1173" (26 tracks, running 70 min.) from 2016. Best wishes!
