I wish this vid was available yesterday when my 92 yr old Dad was visiting. We actually were talking about his fond memories of the "B" he drove on the farm. I'll have to make sure he sees this video Hans. 😊
Kent! Great to hear from you, buddy. I'm going to try and get some more similar types of videos created and posted this summer to share. I hope your dad enjoys! :)
This was an awesome video!! Man - last time I had the SC at plow day, I was running 3rd gear with a 2-bottom. I wanted to hook to a 3-bottom just to see what it would do! This is promising!
I think it did just fine. If you had some wheel weights or tire ballast and some front end weights, it would have hauled that 3 bottom like butter. I think you're ready for plow day with the Minnesota boys.
Thanks Matt! I think it did pretty well, and with your suggestions, maybe it could do a little bit better. It's a long haul, but I'd love to bring some equipment up for plow day with the Minnesota boys. :)
Your A should definitely do it as the B was designed to be 2/3 the size of an A. I have a 1950 JD A also and as soon as I get it repaired, I'll do comparison with it and how well it likely pulls the 3 bottom as compared to the B!
😂😂 Pretty good test!! Actually thats pretty impressive for the B. Thats like plowing blacktop!! She sure sounded good!! Just like you said in different soil (especially sandy) the outcome would of been way different!
The ground is so tough! Absolutely like plowing blacktop! I thought it did really well. I'm hoping to do a plowing comparison video between the A, B, and G this year. I need to fix the A. I think incorrect (universal) coolant contributed to a head gasket failure.... which you pointed to me a while ago. lol
@@TractorHoarderspulled a JD 3-14 hydraulic lift behind dads 1951 A JD up in MN and I was pulling in 2nd gear did alright then decided to try 3rd gear and it felt like it pulled better in 3rd than in 2nd. Eventually gonna try it behind my 1947 slant dash A JD. In another video left a comment I picked up a 44 hydraulic lift plow on steel wheels I haven’t pulled yet but plan to behind a 1950 B JD. Somewhere someone told me a 44 hydraulic lift on steel was rare, but in the old JD promo videos they had em on steel. Got just about all of them videos on dvd from the A and B era
I have a 52 model A I just pulled 3 14" plow with Saturday. Worked amazing. Didn't even know it was back there.

My ant plowed a 120-acre hard clay field with a Ford jubilee and a 1 bottom 12'' plow. every year. Lots of hrs in the seat.
That little B is strong!!
It did really good! I was impressed.

Since everyone's storing tractors at your place, maybe I could drop off some plows? I'd love to see what it could do with the 3 bottom too!
You have a great running tractor !!
Thank you. I’ve got a lot more money into it than what it’s worth. But it’s a family tractor, so definitely worth it to me!
I'd like to see if a 1952 John Deere Model A tractor can pull a four bottom plow
I’d like that too. If I ever end up with a four bottom plow, I’ll test it with my 1950 JD A.
That’s a sharp looking B you got there. I think you should test the MM plow with a MM tractor next.
I have a few interesting plows that would be fun to bring for a future plow day. I'm sure this one would me a good match for your new MM.

Nice I have a John Deere model A I'm restoring and I saw ur video and I am pretty sure that mine will pull out a three bottom plow as well

Great video!
Thanks, I will share some more experiments!
I really like that MM 3 bottom. Would be a nice plow behind my SM.
I agree, it is nice! 👍 I picked it up at an estate sale for $50 and put 2 new tires on it so far, just looking for a 3rd. The SM would handle it well!
Ya, hard going. Great test.
Hard going for sure. I was impressed that it was able to do what it did. It wasn't without effort, that's for sure. That was some hard pulling.
Probably work in a lighter soil, fun experiment though. 😊
I think you're right! I'd like to try it in different soil and see what happens.
did you fix the head gasket?
Not yet! I got lucky and it started today. I hope to replace the head gasket this summer.
Are the tires loaded?
No, they’re not

@@TractorHoarders That would be a good video. That stinks to hear about the A.
.90 oversize pistons + power manifold + a warmed up tractor might do the trick in old ground. Otherwise this appears almost to be tractor abuse.
This B has .125 over pistons. The dense clay, rock, shale mix was a challenge for sure.
Maybe try shifting into a lower gear next time you attempt to plow with a three bottom plow and your John Deere model B tractor.
Tests were conducted in both 1st and 2nd gear. 1st gear would lose traction. 2nd gear would lose power. Both expected.

You were running it real deep and you need weight on the back wheels but it pulled it
It was deep for sure! I have a JD A that I need to fix, and once it's fixed, I'll do a comparison with it to share.
too much plow for the b.take one of them off
Would probably work better in better ground
No farms out here, it’s all for show. I agree with you though.
It won't do it on my ground.
We don’t know unless we try! 😁
Yes it could pull the 3 bottom. No, it wasn't happy doing so!!
and now we know! :)
