    Thanks for sharing! I have also considered traveling with a desktop computer with high-end parts and my main concern was taxing. I'm not a frequent traveler but it seems like most countries require that any item exceeding certain values need to be declared and taxed. So what you did might be considered "smuggling", you just weren't inspected or caught and the authorities usually don't care, unless it's inappropriately large amount or value, like you obviously want to sell and profit from them. And if you didn't carry them with you and had shipped them instead, you most certainly would need to declare it and pay taxes in order to retrieve them from customs.

    You could've actually done all the customs declaration and paperwork they gave you beforehand, online at Visit Japan Web. They give you 2 QR codes and you then just show the one they ask for at each station. Also I traveled from Germany to Japan with my full size desktop and did it similarly to you (taking out gpu, plus stuffing the inside with towels so nothing moves). It really just barely fit the biggest luggage I had, and arrived with no issues.

    I just watched your excellent video "ultimate guide to sentence mining". Thank you for explaining the steps and explaining the tools. I would never have figured out the process using ShareX and texthooker etc. without your instruction. I have some local files (I liked your non-piratical subliminal messaging) that I thought I'd try to mine. I don't have migaku so I"m using my own note type with about six fields I need to populate in Anki. I don't use yomichan but I'm using ten-ten which is similar I guess but I've never used yomichan. Ten-ten isn't integrated to anything so perhaps there's more manual cutting and pasting?
    Anyway, my question is: did you ever calculate what your average note creation time was making your pre-Migaku 4000 notes back in the day?
    I suppose I'll get better at the process as I make more notes, but so far I've created about 30 cards and it's taken me 2 hours, so that's about 4 minutes per card. Maybe I could shave that down to 2 minutes as I develop a creation flow, but...at this point it's very labour intensive and time-consuming.
    On the positive side, this exercise so far has shown me how much content was going over my head not pre-studying the vocab in the program I'm watching. Without preparation, the Japanese subs just fly by when the dialogue is fast. So the cards I'm making are invaluable for comprehension. The trade-off is that making them is time-consuming. Nevertheless, I agree with you that my custom-made cards are far superior to subs2srs batch creation cards.
    Btw, I posted this comment here on what is currently your latest video because I wasn't sure if you'd notice it if I commented on the sentence-mining video in question. 🙂

    • @Livakivi
      @Livakivi  8 месяцев назад +2

      It definitely took longer than more integrated mining, but I think one card took me 30 seconds to 2.5 minutes at most if I was having trouble with typos or manually syncing audio on Netflix something. On my second channel, I have this old video where you can sorta see how long it took when I was still manually mining: ruclips.net/video/SaVHrzF3-2E/видео.html

    • @exponentzero
      @exponentzero 8 месяцев назад

      先生、どうもありがとうございました@@Livakivi Thank you so much for your quick response to my question -- YT didn't give me any notification! Anyway, I will check out the video you kindly referenced. 30 seconds is an optimal target to shoot for, but I think 2 minutes is probably a more achievable considering my poor talents. My objective is to sentence mine an entire TV series of about 320 minutes of screen time, (14 episodes of about 23 minutes). How many notes I create depends on how many words I don't know. Which will be a lot. I only know textbook vocab so I'll have to create a lot of notes to capture all the casual language/slang that real Japanese people speak. In only the first 15 minutes of the show it's already been a lot! Oh boy. I greatly appreciate your experience on all this. 🙏

The golden rule is never put valuables in checked luggage; It's so easy for airlines/handlers to misplace or even steal from your luggage and dealing with them is just a big hassle. Also, as a random tidbit, if for whatever reason it ever came to be a decision to make, never fly with Iberia. I might be spanish so most stories inevitably revolve around that cursed airline and its shitty treatment of people in local flights; but even international flights often have... Y eso sin contar que en general, la mayoria de vuelos dentro de España de Madrid a otras comunidades tienden a ser incluso denigrantes.

    What if person A is 75kg with 7kg hand carry bag
    Then person B is 50kg but with 9kg hand carry bag
    Shouldn't they just allow person B? because the weight is already compensated by person A

    I'm really curious what made you bother to bring the pc if the Macbook was decent for editing anyway, I get wanting it for your home but why bother with all that for a trip?

    • @Livakivi
      @Livakivi  8 месяцев назад +1

      Certain projects that can only be done on an x86 PC, wanted better editing already before going to Japan and wanted to see how good a maxed out desktop is, and didn't really want to go for a windows notebook just in case the performance isn't good enough or the overall experience such as fan noise and build quality for the price aren't satisfactory.
