  • So bomber replays are about the same as watching aircraft videos for WoWS or arty in WoT. But after we were so critical of the bomber player on the Bf 109Z video yesterday I thought it only fitting that that critique came with what should be done opposed to just saying what was done wrong. I remember being new it WoT and the learning curve was steep and the community was quick to tell me I was wrong in the most colorful language they could slam into their keyboard the fastest. While that visceral response was motivation to not do that thing that angered my team again, I received little in the way of what I should have done (besides advice to uninstall). But since WoWPs features a generally positive community with a level of maturity (most of the time), I think this video is a fitting response.

    Thanks for the tips V! My B-17D (as well as other bombers) has been gathering dust for over a year because I was continuously frustrated trying to get a good result. I left the nosebleed section and followed your advice. HUGE difference! Got the Thunder, Lang, and Doolittle all in one battle with it. Then got to the 'G and while the going got a bit tougher it still was a performer. Now I have a new set of skills to perfect.

    Dude, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE VIDEOS. You da man. The insight is very much appreciated
    This match also feature THREE specialized aircraft and all of them in your team. That is a HUGE advantage , and the ones specialized are the most dangerous aircrafts , the one who secures the base acquisition, and the two that eliminate the contenders from the other team.
    Also, the two top players in your team are higher ranked the opposition in the 1 and 2 spots of the enemy team.
    I am new to the game but my experiences are so far that when I am on a team where my plane is higher rank than half the enemies team, then my results are almost always a win. When my plan is at the bottom rank then we almost always lose.
    Also, if I am not specialized and I am going vs specialized planes... that's a lose already

    What a good bomber at the correct capture points and the correct altitude bracket can do people. Great video VeeBat!

    wow i didnt knew that fact about the altitude, i am one of those who like to fly the bomber at great altitude to improve survivability but seeing this video maybe i can change my mind with my Ju 88A
    Great video Vee

    When it comes to what those survivability stats mean; i believe you are correct, Veebat. What follows is a best guess only.
    Due to the standard policy that no WG Mod will neither confirm or deny ANY speculation on 'hidden' mechanics.
    To the point where any such talk, no matter what you say, is completely ignored. except for when you trigger the harsh language bot.
    It may be that you; dear reader, have some solid intel you want to add. Please share with the class below.
    Ok. get snack. this is a long one...
    The resistance values shown seem to be a base number used as a "saving throw" to prevent a critical hit or fire from triggering.
    This number can be increased by your equipment. (protection expert skill Really comes in handy)
    What do I mean by that? well let me back up a little bit.
    When someone shoots at you; sometimes they hit. When the hit they do some damage.
    For every hit there is a small chance to trigger a fire or a critical that is dependant on the weapon.
    What the base chance to proc a crit or fire may be from one gun to another is NOT known to me. Data-miners reading this go have fun.
    However these small individual chances add up with rates of fire measured in the hundreds each second.
    Even if you don't use any consumable ammo at all.
    But you are gonna anyway because Ammo choice can drastically affect this chance. And universal ammo is pretty cheap.
    My best guess at those values are:
    Universal= +30% crit & +20% fire
    Incendiary= +10% crit & +50% fire
    Fragmentation= +40% Crit & + 20% fire
    High Explosive Armor Piercing= its *seems* like +60% damage to ground targets with some % fire chance.
    ** Falcon Strike/Nosedive. **
    ** When triggered they grant an Additional 50% chance of fire AND crit that stacks with anything else you may have **
    Equipment bonuses are also a thing here. Between gunsights Long Gun Barrels and Gas Operated Actions you are looking at an additional 5-30% chances to start fires or crits.
    With all that said sometimes the odds favor your enemy and they trigger a crit to a particular hitbox or start a fire on your plane.
    every time this happens you plane gets its 'saving throw' to negate the effect before it happens.
    I treat the number in the user interface as you base percentage to succeed.
    But it could simply be a sum that is checked against the damage values of the incoming attacks.
    Either way, higher numbers are indicate better performance.
    In the case of this particular B-17 that base damage reduction chance is 78.
    if a hit lands on any of his 4 different engine hitboxes and procs a crit ... there is a base 78 chance the crit fails with 70% extra due to equipment. for a grand total of ...132.6 chance to successfully negate that crit(!) THis implies an automatic denial.
    Bear in mind a cannon shell can gain as much as +72% crit or +122% crit with falcon strike. which implies automatic success ...
    And that is with an unknown base crit chance. other than what the UI says.
    (which is nothing at all, Improved for 20mm~ish guns, or High for 30+mm cannons)
    And I dont know what happens when unstoppable forces meet immovable objects in the game.
    Maybe i am wrong and the number for crit proc is subtracted from the number for damage resistance. and the resultant number is a positive or negative modifier to the crit going off.
    Again WeeGee refuses to discuss the matter.
    Moving on to the other thing FIRE.
    funny thing you get two flavors of damage reduction. First is Resistance. Your resistance chance determine whether or not you will catch fire at all. see the questionable math above for crit chance.
    So something like a Zero has a base fire resistance of 30.
    Between equipment bonuses and gold consumable you could max out fire resistance by 50%. This will jack zero's fire resistance value to 45.
    for comparison a wildcat has a base fire resistance of 60 without equipment. (hooray for self sealing fuel tanks!)
    Some of the more perceptive among you may have noticed that there is a thing called Tolerance.
    It is applied to the "unavoidable" sources of in game damage.
    turret damage (via seasonal paint job)
    AAA damage (Seasonal Paint and certain equipment bonuses)
    and Fire damage. (Fire resistance skill and certain equipment bonuses)
    In all three cases "x% tolerance to Y damage" is a direct reduction (by x%) of each bit of damage done (by type Y) every time that damage happens.
    getting shot with a turret that do 100dps? seasonal paint grants 5% tolerance so you only took 95dps when turret shot you.
    Flying through a flack zone in a bomber with 40% AAA tolerance? you take 40% less damage when the flack (inevitably) hits you.
    15% fire Tolerance means that Fire does 15% less damage per second when it (inevitably) burns you.
    ** the Pilot skill Fire Resistance is an oddly named special case. It will not only provide 20% fire tolerance it will also (as far as i can tell) uniquely reduce the time that every fire burns your plane by 20% and yet provide no bonus to preventing a fire in the first place.**

    Interesting video. I have not gotten in to American bombs. I have flown plenty of Russian and German one however and I always go low with them. Find it more fun that way and you actually hit targets. I can see American bombs are a bit different. But the same general idea. Go in fast and line up a good bomb run.

  • @-Infamous-Gaming

    It seems to me that the american bombers carry a significant advantage in capping zones and deffensive fire. Other nations at this tier struggle to cap zones cuz if a bomb misses u dont finish the cap. Im just getting into this bomber line but I love it thus far.

    • @Veebat
      @Veebat  4 года назад +1

      The three lines are distinct in their styles, but I think there are some general rules to follow. Target selection, proper altitude, and munition efficiency. There are some finer points within those, but once you get those hammered out for your craft you are at least on your way to being a help to your team rather than a hindrance. I think all bomber players like the support role and just want to be helpful anyways. :)

      @@Veebat Yes I agree 100%, however I was saying that the B 17 G lends itself better in terms of being able to take caps by itself with little or no team support. All bomber have the same basic function, that said some appear to do it better than others.

      Asyraf Dahlan I can and will but that plane is just dirty. I can flip a zone with just half a bomb load. 🤣 I had a 4:28 match due to this monster
