    First, I must say that like your videos! Thx for doing one about the B17G even if you don't really enjoy it. I personally like flying it from time to time, even if I have a B32 and a B29, and I have a crew for it. Flying bomber is kind of relaxing and I fly them when I need a break!!! The bomber I found awful in this line is the B17D as I fell it got all the disadvantages of the B17G but none of it's advantages!

      Yeah, this line does get better as you got further along. I was pleasantly surprised by the B-32. I feel like it's the best balanced of the line! The B-17D was quite a tough one to get through for sure

    Food For thought. This is a high Altitude bomber. when i fly the B17 d or g im above 3500km where i encounter absolutely NO ONE. highest amount of ground targets 61 destroyed.

    Along with the Lancaster, this is THE legendary bomber of WW2, and deserves to be treated better in game. It’s pretty painful and it needs twice the bomb load.
    As soon as you play the death-dealing damage of the SU-10 and RB-17 it’s hard to go back to (s)lower tiers which is a shame. (WG is Russian so it’s not surprising I guess….)

    I get over 3000 feet of range from the .92 mm gunda on the ju86 E. it’s SO useful when killing heavies cause I hit the boost and then can’t get within 2000 feet to shoot me and most of the time they can’t catch me.

    My first bomber i was any good at was the german bomber. whiich was quick and had accurate bombs even from high altitude and its machineguns were only good for dispensing enough crits to maybe make the heavy trying to kill me go away because with 2 engine crits and a wounded pilot it wasnt gonna kill anything.
    Otherwise i dies pretty fast.
    The B-17 is the exact opposite. can it fly high? sure. But why bother? your bomb spam will certainly hit something. At least the ground if nothing else. But its up to RNGezus if you get ground target kills or if you just handed four or five easy ground kills to whatever Attacker (friendly or not) is in the area. Also when you fly high the only thing around is other heavies. Which are designed to be a bomber hard counter. Even with your fat hit point pool and defensive firepower, it will just delay the inevitable.
    However! if you are willing to fly low enough that spitfires and zeros are willing to come get you ... then the heavies are willing to think twice about taking a piece out of you. If they loiter too long those light fighters (and quite a few MultiRoles) will be Very happy to punish them for flying too low and *gasp* making a turn.
    As for all the enemy fighters ... you have as much or more firepower than they do and can shoot it in all directions. And conveniently those light fighters (unlike heavys which can handle the abuse) do NOT do well when anything is shooting at them for any amounts of damage ... especially 12x .50 caliber heavy machine guns.
    Also at these relatively low altitudes of 1500 to 2000 meters your bombs go where you put them (more or less) and while you may not kill quite enough ground targets to solo cap a sector in one bomb run ... you will do enough that finishing off a fighter or two will finish the cap.
    [EDIT] flying low enough to be an aerial antiair battery seems counter intuitive (and i certainly would not do it in naything BUT an american bomber) but trust me doing a low orbit around that central airfield dogfight being careful that you are juuust a bit outside of the cap zone while all twelve of your B-17 guns are blasting away at what ever they want to is pretty much the only reason why you would run a Ultimate gun laying drive with Weakest Link+Quick Reflex skills. For extra shits and giggles you could make it a figure 8 pattern and fly right into the middle of that furball.
    When all those guns have something to shoot at ... it sounds like almost enough dakka :D
    And it is the only way you are gonna cap an airfield in a bomber anyway. [/EDIT]
    Some general advice for being a bomber player? Dont be where the heavies are. you have the time to pay attention to your mini-map so use it. Cruise Flight Eagle eye and vigilance mean you can see them before they see you and adjust your course accordingly. (so does NRE at higher tiers)
    Are you gonna get deleted quickly by them heavies? yeah. You will.
    At every tier. Its their job, and they are good at it. So dont make it any easier for them.
    (even the B29C is really only good at making one pass into and out of a zone with impunity. with the max possible hit-point pool of an ultimate tank build you can get can manage to get in a second time and survive long enough to do the bomb drop buuut afterward ... you will either be dead or so close that it doesnt matter and you are forced to either repair at a friendly air base or lawn dart)
    If you MUST be where the heavies are then try to fly near the other bomber. especially if its another b-17. double the defensive turret firepower (and double the targets for them to shoot at ) makes it a bit harder for them to kill you without loosing something in the process.
    No friendly bomber around? no little friend williing to give you an escort?
    use bomber flights from Command centers as friendly cover as you cross the map. Thats enough defensive turrets that even a german bomber (eventually) can manage to get the however many turret kills needed for specialization. Just before you get where you are going boost out ahead and toss out that sweet sweet ground damage. Even if you dont manage to flip the sector the bomber flight can finish what you started.

      Also, I think the developers must have been thinking about this scene when designing Cadman Miller's skills: (it's ridiculous 😆)

    Hi, Postal, just transitioning to WoWP, as relief from 7 yrs of WoT...😵 Hope you come back to the game, as new players rely on review vids to get ideas on how the game mech functions. Best wishes, pal.

    world of warplanes has bombers?!

    • @PostalMonkey
      @PostalMonkey  2 года назад

      Yeah, a full German line (which I enjoy), a full Soviet line (which is hit-or-miss for me) and a partial American line, plus some premiums

  • @markbrandon5236

    I had heard from other players that this is a bad bomber so I have skipped on it. But OMG, it really is terrible. After having to pain grind past the lower tier Russian GA and German GAA crap planes to get the the good higher tier ones I won't be subjecting myself to the B-17D and B-17G just to get the B-32 (not gonna happen).

    • @PostalMonkey
      @PostalMonkey  2 года назад

      Understandable. The B-32 is probably the only properly balanced bomber for the Americans but the B-17 grind before it is crazy

    Well dud we have a strong candidate to worst WoWP American plane? Nice to see you back.

    I just don't know why people enjoy flying bombers. Glad they do (unless they're flying B-29Cs or spec'ed T10s), but I'd rather fly pretty much any other plane in the game.

      Kinda reminds me of artillery in WoT or Carriers in WoWs

    • @skunkbeard4205

      Both of which detract from the game...just like air busses...

  • @tomblack4061
    @tomblack4061 Год назад +1

    Yeah, that plane is an absolute shit-show. I've not been successful with it at all and I've yet to see it be a sector flipping game changer. I'd much rather fly the Potez than this hunk of flying crap.

  • @skunkbeard4205
    @skunkbeard4205 2 года назад +1

    Ugh...bombers...you're not so much a pilot, as a bus driver. A giant bag of hitpoints with auto aiming turrets, that you drop stuff on non moving targets...in other words, an "i win button for no talent players" WG's version of balance is you're cannon fodder while you grind up the trees, to be granted the unkillable ef 131, wh8ch unbalences the entire tier 10 meta. Coddling low talent players in what used to be a skill based game will be the end of it.

    • @PostalMonkey
      @PostalMonkey  2 года назад +1

      I don't believe that bombers are as mindless as all that, especially at the low tiers. There are definitely some balance issues tho

    • @bartlomiejmolczyk8492
      @bartlomiejmolczyk8492 2 года назад +2

      I didn't like bombers but after almost two years of playing l start to enjoy them. NOT ALL OFF THEM but Russian and German can be very effective. You can see it when you look at rising number of players in bombers on EU server at middle tiers.
