  • With our debut European vanlife roadtrip coming to an end, we discover a few minor problems with our EU Pet Passports for our 2 new vanlife kittens.
    Turns out that the vet had filled out a few things incorrectly in our EU Pet passports, so we try to get them fixed along with giving you all the information needed to do with how an EU Pet Passport needs to be filled, and what are the common mistakes.

    Thanks for the video and information, my wife and myself moved from the US to Germany and now we are moving to England. We got our pet passports and they did not laminate the pages . I am not taking any risks and getting this sorted out ! I have found through my travels that many things said to be required are not and vice versa. How rules are enforced depending on the agent at the border patrol a person encounters is very true and not professional. It complicates many things for many people. Thanks again for the information you provided 🍻🍻

      Glad we can help, this topic was a stress point for us as information was sketchy. Definitely cover all your bases, just in case you get that one difficult border guard. Good luck and happy travels 😊👍

      I totally understand that being the most stressful part of the move. It was and will continue to be the same for my wife and myself in regards to our 2 cats. The process coming from the USA to Europe and now to the UK all brings it's different challenges when transporting our cats . Thanks again for the information and your response! It is much appreciated 🍻

    So glad you managed to get through okay with the kitties! That whole passport nonsense really boils my blood the fact that you can be refused entry for not having a piece of tape over a page is ridiculous!!
    I get that there's rules (which the vets should all know in the 1st place) but even so...they would really make you miss your ferry and wait another 21 days because of silly things like that??!
    Anyway, glad it's all over now and you can relax with the UK with the kitties 😊

    • @FreedomStrider

    Re the 'tattoo' page on my dog's passport, my (UK) vet had entered 'N/A', because the dog did not have a tattoo and had been micro-chipped. Unfortunately, when I arrived at Calais, the very young and possibly inexperienced border guard, did not understand what N/A meant. She held us for about 10 minutes whilst she sought advice on the telephone from what we assume was her boss. It was quite unnerving as the ferry embarkation was about to close and the people in the vehicles behind started to get agitated. It got sorted eventually just in time but when I got home I went to see our vet to explain what had happened. She told me that she would write to the British Vetinary Association and ask them to liase with their European counterpart so that this type of thing did not cause problems in future. I've no idea what the outcome was, but I hope you don't get relayed by this type of bureaucratic nonsense.

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for sharing this 🙂, yes it's stories of this type of situations that got us so worried (especially with the corrections in our passports). It is so important that pet parents are well informed about all these details to try and avoid this stress. What is more so, is that the EU recently updated the pet passports and rules on how to fill them in and not all vets say the same things.

    One more question, my vet used the rabisyva vaccine for the first and the 2nd dose, is there any reason you chose/,your vet chose a different vaccine for the 2nd one?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Год назад +1

      We requested it because of the timing of our ferry. If you have plenty of time before leaving the 2 dose one is fine, we just wanted a single dose.

    Thank you so much for the information. In a month my dog will have her anti-rabies vaccine. I will take the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander, travelling with her animal health certificate paperwork and making the passport for my dog in Santander.
    Should I ask my vet here in the UK to give me an extra sticker from the anti-rabies vaccination information for the passport in Spain?
    Your video helps me a lot!!!

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Год назад

      You can ask for a sticker and see if they will use it, however, the date of the first rabies jab (recorded in the eu passport) has to be the same date or after the issue date of the passport. So the date of your dog's rabies jab in the uk would be before the issue date (even if they agree to write it). They may insist on vaccinating again or it has been known for Spanish vets to stick the stickers without vaccinating. Note: unless they fudge the dates, you probably would have to wait another 21 days in Spain.
      I believe that's how it works, if you know anything different please let us know. Hope it all goes smoothly. 😊

  • @joeroberts2156
    @joeroberts2156 Год назад

    Is there any way I could send you photos of my pet passport to check if it's correctly filled out? Or do you know a company that can?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Год назад

      We have an email (check our description) that you can send us questions and pictures on. Bare in mind that we cannot give you legal advice, we can only say if the passport is filled like ours or not. And even legally filled pet documents have been turned away, as it's all based on the border guards discretion.
      You can take them to a vet and they should be able to tell you as well. Some vet information does vary depending on country and region. The most consistent and helpful information we have gotten is from vets nearer the border ports or airports.

    I believe lamination needs to be done on Section 3 - microchip section, not section 4

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Год назад +1

      It's a bit confusing, some places say section 3 does need to laminated, some don't Both the Spanish and French vet we visited said to, and each time we've crossed the border there has been no issue with the non-lamination of section 3. But having it laminated wouldn't hurt I gues!

    • @AlexMa
      @AlexMa Год назад

      @@FreedomStrider Thank you! I am very confused as well.
      Did any of your rabies stickers get laminated when entering UK? I read one of the checklist PT45 specifying rabies need to be laminated which my blegian vet didn't do.

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Год назад

      Yes, there was tape placed over our rabies stickers and signatures, I think each vet in each country do things slightly differently, and frankly the Spanish vets are apparently well known to not do things exactly by the book (we have Spanish pets).
      But our page 3 is not laminated, and page 4 is 🤷‍♀️

    This is something I am worried about with taking my kitty into Europe. Let’s hope the people I see don’t screw up my pet passport 😁 what happens about the rabies jab sync if your pet already has a microchip? Do they have to add another?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 года назад +2

      Just go in knowing what it's supposed to look like and triple check everything before you leave the vet. If they are being prickly about you checking, just be honest and let them know how picky border control can be... get the vet on your team so to speak.
      Even though it is more paperwork having pets, I wouldn't give it up, it's been the best 🥰

    SAME BRO SAME AAH the guy who sold us the puppy gave out a fake passport I’m stuck here till december ig , gotta make a new passport now because I can’t microchip her otherwise . or can I maybe travel without the chip ?? and than do the new passport and microchip when I get home would be before december does anyone have the answer ??

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 года назад +1

      Oh no that sounds a worse hassle than what we were in 🫤, we feel for your so much.
      You cannot cross borders without a microchip (legally speaking). You can move around Europe (within Schengen) without doing any of it as no one will check. As soon as you reach a guarded border then they will stop you.
      For dogs you need the passport (correctly filled out), microchip, a valid rabies vaccine and the worm treatment (applied within the correct timeframe).
      Each border guard is different, they don't always scan the cats chips and it is purely up to the guard if they pick at any 'mistakes' in the passport.

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 года назад +1

      I don't know where home is for you, but if home is the UK. then you can't get a European passport from here, you have to do it in an EU country. And you have to do a rabies jab when you do it, so the 21 day wait is mandatory 🤯... Human passports are easier, I know

      , @@FreedomStrider What do you mean, is even if the dog had a rabies jab in the UK a month before the passport is done, is necessary to have another rabies jab let's say in Spain?
      I thought if the dog has the Animal Health Certificate, which means all the vaccinations and rabies jab is up to date when arriving in the EEUU country, it would be just a matter of finding the registered vet to make the pet password.
      Now I am confused
