that slow walk though...gorgeous
farrel mukhesh right!!!! This scene in the movie was beautiful!!!
farrel mukhesh I was stunned at this scene
farrel mukhesh That scene had me SHOOK.
farrel mukhesh My favorite scene!
I fucking cried
The slomo part when she's walking in the parted sea with the wind blowing gave me CHILLS. So beautiful
That part was just too EPIC. Cheehoo!
Chris Ayala so amazing! This part 🎯💕
Chris Ayala Once an image of what you described is posted online, it'll make a killer desktop image for my laptop, that's for sure!
Seriously. I love that Moana is such a strong female role model. But even more so, I love the message this scene sends. That you don't have to fight and defeat the "bad guy." That by identifying with someone and showing compassion and understanding, you can help someone heal and not be the "bad guy" anymore. Now THAT is the message that kids these days need to be raised with!
whossoul Well said, sir (unless I'm confusing your gender)!
Te Ka is the first (and so far only) Disney villain who doesn't meet a horrible end. Instead Moana saves her, returning her heart and freeing Te Fiti. And Moana and Te Ka are the only heroine/villainess who share the same thing: both were looking for who they were meant to be.
What about John Silver?
Yeah! That’s what I love about this movie, and why I think it’ll become a classic! I hope Raya and the Last Dragon takes a unique turn with its villain/s too, and NOT with a typical villain twist ending.
@@juanrisa945 Didn't he die?
@@yi-hira No but his voice actor did recently. He just leaves at the end of the movie.
@@Cassimfan thanks. It's been a while since I've seen the movie.
Also, ouch.
Does anyone else feel like Moana is directly singing this to the audience?
We all had moments in our lives that made us forget who we are; either because of a traumatic incident that scarred them, or life has become so harsh that you had to become harsh yourself. I see this song as Moana talking to the audience about how they should never forget who they are, and remember their actual character. It's a good message to people who have suffered from identity crises.
Yooo
Right on
Say it louder! Also cannot ignore that a woman had her heart ripped out by a guy who saw it as prize and something to be messed with and she turned into THAT.
A thought a long those lines came to my mind. I looked the comment section to see if someone said something similar: there you were.
I am in tough position, that I know will get better, in trying to find a good job. I worked so hard to get where I am. Now, I am having a hard time finding a job worthy--a good stepping stone for my future. It's tough being vulnerable, waiting for someone, an employer in this case, to see how bright I can actually shine.
This process will make me stronger. If not, then at least it won't change me to the worse.
Comments like these are extremely underrated
This song and scene was GORGEOUS.
agree!
elsa1942 the whole movie was gorgeous, nearly made my glowing eyes shead tears
ikr
brah...there was NO scene...
TheDJRobbieK talking about the scene in the movie, not the video
This scene was what cemented Moana as my favourite Disney Princess. Courageous, compassionate, even prepared to face death itself in order to save those she cared for.
This whole scene defines Moana as one of the strongest princesses of them all.
*non-princess
APSR Actually, she's in the line-up. She counts.
Echoes Ay Th' Glen I heard she calls herself a "non-princess" in the film so I was just playing at that. XD
APSR Oh right! I was going to mention that scene as a little quip. :P
well she is strong but Mulan acted as a man to be in the army (which she could've been killed for) and fought against the huns, and faced off with their leader. Yes moana is strong, but I wouldn't say she isn't the strongest even though she faced a lava monster
Not gonna lie, I cried during this scene. It was just perfect and the message, as I understand it, is so strong. It's just how life puts you through so much hardship and struggles that bring you down. Because of that we sometimes become callous and heartless and we need a reminder that we are not defined by the pain other people cause us.
preech
Very well spoken!!!
THIS ✨💯
Yeah this song was like therapy for me. Tears and tears.
@@Will-fh7ll yes...
Wish this song was at least 4 minutes longer :(
It's as long as it needs to be.
@@Cavetunnel so ya don't like the song? 'cause it sounds as so.
@@-arcanespirit-304 No, I love it, I just think that the length is perfect as is.
@@Cavetunnel ah, well I agree. I prefer this length and honestly wouldn't know what ta do with a shorter one.
(Also that comment probably sounded rude but that was not intentional- sorry- I can be one with words too much aa-)
@@Cavetunnel I was getting ready to reply those exact words. Eerie, but understandable.
"Let her come to me" and the sea parted - Gave me goosebumps. She was in FULL control.
I don't think that was the point of that, it may just be me, but I feel like Moana was trying to give some power to Te Ka, letting her come to her on her will rather than being forced to stay still and wait.
CharlieTheMad256 I agree.
Aah weh
It was an extremely powerful moment.
I got goosebumps too!! Love this movie 😍
Moana has changed me. This movie isn't about killing/defeating the bad guy but about showing compassion toward them. Moana is a powerful character to whom everyone one should strive to be.
agreed, Im glad the creator decided to use that ending instead of her defeating te ka
Eva Winkler OmG yes this was a departure from many Disney films...so good.
Eva Winkler I agree 😊😊😊
Eva Winkler Then you realize the world isn't sunshine and rainbows and sometimes killing and violence has to be the final solution.
Wolfboy2012 *Then
But it shouldn't be the first answer either m
Lyric :
(Ou mata e matagi)
I have crossed the horizon to find you
(Ou loto mamaina toa)
I know your name
(Manatu atu)
They have stolen the heart from inside you
(Taku pele pele)
But this does not define you
(Manatunatu)
This is not who you are
You know who you are.
Thank you 😍
Thanks ❤
Thanks!
"They have stolen the heart from inside you but this does not define you. This is not who you are. You know who you are."
Never thought Disney music would actually apply to my real life situations but here I am, tearing up from these encouraging words.
Using compassion and kindness to overcome the 'enemy' - this is why both Moana and Kubo and the Two Strings are two of my favorite films this year.
Literally SAME!!!!!!!!!! Both such good movies!
2016 was an AMAZING year for movies just cause of those 2.
Though it's unfortunate that Kubo kind of got the short end of the stick.
No offense, but Kubo was a really bad movie in my opinion. Moana was a masterpiece though.
stillwatersrundeep Kubo is such a masterpiece, shut your fingers.
stillwatersrundeep You must not have a good taste in movies. Kubo was honestly almost better than moana.
This song is speaking to those suffering from Loss, Depression or a Broken Heart.
I love this part of the film!
Beautiful!
Koroi 117 I am currently undergoing treatment for depression, and I just let my tears go at this scene in the theater.
ahhh glad i wasnt the only one who saw it that way!!!
"they have stolen the heart from inside you... but this does not define you..." i'm about to cry tbh
Glad I'm not the only one who saw it this way. I actually saw it so strongly connecting to victims of rape. "They have stolen the heart from inside you, but this does not define you" Having had a few close friends who have been raped this seems so strongly to reflect what happened, having something stolen from them, and the struggle they felt to not let it define them.
I was tearing up during the scene when Moana restored Te Fiti's heart and the aftermath since it *was* really beautiful!
This entire movie is about internal conflict. Its one of the reasons its so beautiful.
It's not very often that a movie becomes an instant classic. In 20 years, we won't be talking about Frozen - we'll be talking about Moana.
Top10Archive yes ☺
DO YOU WANT TO BUILD A SNOWMAN
Frozen was kinda bad anyway
Moana is waaaayyyyyy better
They'll still be trying to sell Frozen merch, though
To anyone who has endured extreme trauma and found that they had become the monster, because violence is a cycle and hurt people hurt people, watching this part of the movie felt hopeful. And that's such a gift. It's easy to demonize monsters. To humanize them is difficult, and Moana did it so well.
ANYONE WHO'S SEEN THIS SCENE WILL UNDERSTAND THE TRUE POWER OF THIS SONG 😍
9coralineTPOM ahhhhhhh this scene was sooooo amazing
True
9coralineTPOM true. it gave me chills while she was walking down from the mountian
yeah I just watched this movie last night
I almost cried during this scene
Disney's had a trend of the "surprise villain" in its movies of late. Hans, Callaghan, Bellwether. So it's cool that this film gave us the surprise non-villain.
"This does not define tou, this is not who you are."
That is SO POWERFUL because Moana is saying, don't think that one bad thing you did is now who you are. Just because you turned into a lava monster when somebody stole your heart, that doesn't mean that all you are is a lava monster. It's not who you are.
"They have stolen the heart from inside you, but this does not define you." DANG GIRL YOU ARE PREACHING👏🏼
This scene almost made me cry because I thought Moana was going to sacrifice herself.
Darkfrost 112345 I thought the same
That never crossed my mind but I wish it had! That's like...too dark for a Disney princess but hey.
That didn't cross my mind but it did make me tear up, just because it was such a strong and emotional scene.
Darkfrost 112345 I thought the same thing
I thought so too! I was tearing up throughout the whole movie. I loved when the island got dark and you saw the grandma's spirit through the stingray. That part in itself made me want to burst into tears! haha. Phenomenal film.
Actually MOANA is my favorite Disney movie of all the Disney movies
I'm with you there. I'm a mega Disney nerd, and I feel strongly about my classics. But after seeing this twice I feel confident saying that. The music. The idea of knowing where you are going when exploring the unknown by knowing where you come from. The strong female role model. Then to not try and defeat the "bad guy" but instead to identify with them and show them compassion, helping them instead of killing them....Disney has never made a movie with better messages.
Moana is probably one of my top 3 Disney films, especially with Moana defeating the "bad guy (or girl)" with compassion and kindness. It's a great message!
If you're just talking about about disney princess movies, mulan will always be im my heart but same. If we're talking about all disney movies, the lion kings pretty high up there if not first.
Moana is a perfect Disney movie. You can really see that this movie was built on previous succesfull Disney installements, but even with some inprovements and modern story concepts. The sound and the visuals are really incredible and directly suck you into the movie. Frozen had one great song and the rest was ok (there were some flaws). This movie was much better and should be considered as a master piece of animation.
YOU JUST REALIZED?! IT WAS MY FAVORITE EVER SINCE THE TRAILER! 😂😂
I have a huge damn problem with this song... it's too short
It says all it needs to say to us all
Me too
Yes it was so beautiful i want a full version
Reyna Vilato Still would love to have a longer version tho
yup
As a 25 year old man, this brings me to tears, her voice is so powerful and beautiful, and I see so many people saying it’s like she’s talking to the audience, I think she indirectly is, be we all have dark moments in our life where we do things and say things out of character, but we have to not lose our humanity, and remember the good times are yet to come. As my grandfather, God rest his soul, would say, “better days are coming”
By far my favorite scene from the movie
Same here. when I watched this scene I didnt think anything of it. Its weird because it became my favorite scene days later after thinking about the scene while listening to this song.
Chad Magers for me it was instantly. I just loved how everything played out! The way she walks towards the "monster" and how it reacts to her is just beautiful (not to mention the music)😊
definitely powerful, which I have never said about an animated film before. lol
Janice Rodriguez Same!
Agree with you! This is my favorite part too. The original song in the background is Loimata E Maligi. I absolutely loved this film! ❤❤❤
LION KING LEVELS OF INCREDIBLE DISNEY MAGIC IN THIS SCENE

Stephanie L You've certainly got that right, Stephanie!
Stephanie L I SAID THE SAME THING WHEN I WAS IN THE MOVIE WATCHING IT!!! It's just amazing how powerful this song is.
yasssssss!!!! Lion King lrvels of incredible!!! i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙌🙌🙋

They have stolen the heart from inside you
BUT THIS DOES NOT DEFINE YOU.
A message every one needs to hear. Whatever they do to you is not what defines you.
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Who you truly are.
Have a good day everybody and God Bless
I am a 36 year old white male, working class, married with kids. I like punk, rock, metal, etc.
This song in Moana makes my body tingle all over. Every time I hear it, it's absolutely beautiful.
The scene itself is majestic, but the song alone holds just as much beauty as the scene in the movie. I only wish the song was never ending.
slandshark lol I’m 21 and I have 2 kids not with the punk music man but this made me tear up its so beautiful can’t stop listening to it
slandshark what does being white mean?
@@itsyourgumballll1123 It means that he is either an Ethnic American of English or European descent, an Ethnic Canadian of English or European descent, an Ethnic Australian of English or European descent, an Ethnic New Zealander of European descent, a South African of European descent, or he is European. Furthermore, he is not Sub-Saharan African, not Northern African, not Asian, not Southeastern Asian, not Southwestern Asian, not Middle Eastern, not Polynesian, and is not of any of the Pre-Columbian nations/peoples in the Western Hemisphere.
I was watching with my kids. I thought the movie was great: funny, ecological,a little twist at the end, she faces the Great Towering Monster unarmed, and then it happened.
The song from her infancy plays, she looks dead at me (that's how it felt) and says: "They have stolen the heart from inside you."
Right there, my childhood showed up. All the traumas. And all the ones that came after. All the moments every survivor knows, where praying nor begging worked. Where no hero showed up. And Love did not save the day.
"But this does not define you."
Fire, Smoke, and Burning Rage wash over her like the End of the World.
And she's calm.
"This is not who you are."
I couldn't move. I was paralyzed and staring.
'You know who You are."
" Who you Really Are."
If you know what I know, and felt as I felt, then we ALL have different stories about what happened in our heads after that. No need to explain, brothers and sisters. The history behind THAT song says it all (Look it up. You're not wrong for feeling this.)

It really is! :)
This scene was SO incredible. The animation and art work of it was just breath taking.
So, lets talk about Teka. How many of us have not been Teka in some point in our life? Something that made us look like the evil one, made us be sad, depress, or even loose our right estate of Mind to a point that we are fill with anger and resentment, that, we really truly end up looking like Teka. Reasons to why may be many: ending of a relationship (or worst still be in a bad one); feeling like a bad parent; having to grow up too soon; lost of a love one; being lost in our own body; lost a great job; you fail in school... endless reasons. Yes, this scene is a movie, but how we feel is reality, Moana is just a character in a movie, but if you think about it, Moana at this scene can be a good friend talking to you, a stranger or if you believe in karma or if I dare to say even God whichever you believe on: they have stolen the heart from inside you ( or your happiness ), but this does not define you ( the burden that we are carrying on), (the sadness anger inside) this is not who you are, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE ♡♡♡☆☆☆
x yxz you're so right. I couldn't agree more
You are so right. I love the words to describe how we are.
I agree with that
This scene and this music honestly deserved an Oscar. It was beautiful and chilling all at the same time. I feel Moana was cheated at the Oscars. It had a better original song (and soundtrack for that matter) than LalaLand and DEFINITELY far superior animated movie than Zootopia (in meaning and in visual)
SpamiWami101 zootopia had a way better meaning IMO
Agreed

No. That kind of bathos would've ruined the scene. Disney at their best knows when to throw in comic relief and when to let a dramatic moment be a dramatic moment.

This scene will go down as one of the most memorable scenes in not only Disney history but film.

This scene always gives me goosebumps. My favorite lines are "they have stolen the heart from inside you, but this does not define you."
In a story about acceptance and self-identity, this whole song just hits home with me. Moana's struggles with her wanderlust and then her realization that it's *part* of her and cannot be denied, her acknowledgment of her people, her island and then finally the acknowledgment of herself.
It must especially hit hard for people of Polynesian descent re: "they have stolen the heart from inside you / but this does not define you / this is not who you are / you know who you are"
This was one of the most beautiful yet badass scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Chills all around
I cried so many times watching this movie. This is the most beautiful Disney movie to date! Who else agrees? I could feel the soul and spirit within each song :')

I love how Innocent Warrior is playing behind this, because that song was sung to Moana when she was a baby about this task- THIS TASK -that she would perform someday. Just bringing it full circle in the most magical, breathtaking, yet peaceful way..
Oh shit. Didn't notice that. Thank's che'lu
This scene absolutely broke me, probably about as equally as when Mufasa died in The Lion King.
SamwiseTheGamer yessss😭😭😭😭
Oh god, same. I SOBBED at this scene.
😭😭😭 Now that you mentioned the Lion King, it reminds me of how happy I am that with this movie, Disney was able to make up for making movies that don’t move your heart and give you a message about knowing and remembering... who *you* are. 😭😭😭😭😭
Best plot twist in a Disney movie in a while!
This scene made me have tears, the pain and sorrow she felt without her heart was felt. She became a monster, all because she was robbed of something she thought she could never have back. This scene was beautiful, such a powerful image❤️

This song is beautiful in every way
Hands down the most powerful scene in the entire movie.
This moment made me decide this was my new favorite Disney movie.
Me too
Goosebumps. Every. Single. Time.
This scene with Moana and Te Kā is like the modern day equivalent of Mufasa's ghost appearing in the night sky before Simba, it's chilling and beautiful. I was absolutely in tears with the entire resolution.
Te Ká is incredibly lucky that Moana is such a compassionate soul.
Moana could have easily closed the ocean on top of her.
how many of you guys were surprised that Te Ka was Te fiti all this time.
Paul Jordan me I knew that already
Me
i honestly saw it coming 😂
I was surprised. Did not see that one coming.
Paul Jordan I knew it was her when I realized how womanly Te Ka looked. it the smoke as her hair, and she had breasts, and the rest looked like she was wearing a dress.
The cinematography of that scene was stunning.
This song is beautiful and enchanting I've never watched the film but seen the scene this was featured. This song just haunts me in a beautiful way.
"They have stolen the heart from inside you"
"But this does not define you"
"This is not who you are"
Something horrible happened to me at work which has eaten me up inside for the past two years... It made me angry and bitter towards many people, including myself... This part of the movie made me realize that what happened to me does not make me who I am. The bad thing that happened to me is not me. And I feel as if a heavy burden has been lifted from my heart.
Thank you, Disney. Thank you, Moana.
Asmr for Clods That's beautiful
Asmr for Clods ...you must've cried real hard...I hope happiness follows you all the days of your life.😌
I love what you said. It is beautiful.
So do I. Anger, hatred and revenge becuse of selfishness of people around me. discrimination makes me to a heartless and ferocious kind of being. I was the sweetest person they ever know before but it was change because of selfishness of the world.
This is a beautiful story. Bless your future
I loved how Te Ka was always guarding her dead island behind her. She was already upset enough that someone robbed her of the one thing she cherished most, and so that's why she was so defensive of her island. She must've been afraid that they were trying to harm her even more. But this scene was so majestic and breathtaking! Te Ka finally had her heart back and found her purpose once again, and born again was Te Fitit. Best animation, feels, and overall scene in Disney!
SO TRUE!!! COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE!! MY FAVORITE FOREVER & ALWAYS:)
This is one of the best scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Love my Polynesian people.
Finally a movie that doesn't find "true" love. I know there's others(like Brave) but, Moana. Moana is finding herself. instead of finding love, it's finding yourself. "You know who you are". This movie deserves something grand.
When Moana held up the Heart of Fiti I knew it was going to epic. The contrast of Moana walking in slow-mo past the water and the lava monster charging at her in extreme rage all while this song was playing...I have no words. What a magical movie this was. Sorry Disney classics - never thought I'd ever say this but #Moana is my new favorite Disney movie of all-time. Ughhh still have chills thinking about the movie.
"they have stolen the heart from inside you... but this does not define you"
utterly stunning... the best part of the movie
The firs time I saw this movie I knew it was something special. It was absolutely a beautiful story.
My eyes become pools of tears when this song comes on.
I’m 32 years old with 2 kids.
Such feels man.
They need to make an extended version of this song because it's so powerful
Agreed
This scene should be in the top 5 best movie scenes of all time. Just beautiful!
Seriously it was hard work to keep from bawling my eyes out at this scene. My heart broke for Te Fiti because she had become so corrupted from the betrayal that she became a monster to others as a way to protect what was left (or try to gain back what she lost). And Moana was the only one to see it. She was the only one who wasn't afraid of her and took the time to see just how hurt she was to become what she was.
But seriously. I did everything I could to not cry. But I will be damned if I don't sing along and feel the tremors from the subtle but sheer power each time I play this damn song. I wish it was longer so I could listen to more

It's always when these songs have meaning that can make you cry
I feel like this film was the perfect thing to see after 2016 has been the most stressful and horrible year for many people, including myself. The part where she says this does not define u, made me feel like it had the underlying message that the terrible things that happen to u don't define who u r, even though they will effect u. And that one can move on from their sorrow, or become a stronger version of their self
Gives me the chills every time I listen to it
Love her voice ❤️❤️
Carolyn Kim Auli'i Cravalho (Moana) KILLED it in the music department!

Not just the scene, but the song itself gives me chills... So good.
The memorial song added to this song was a blessing. I remembered my mother reading the newspaper about the fire. So sad yet good to know they will be remembered in such a gorgeous animation and hope they can finally rest in peace.

"..let her come to me."

then when the monster came raging at her just intensified that because I thought the monster was gonna walk all gentle. lol

I love this scene......the words meant so much to me.......love! love!!
i honestly looooove this part, it gave me ocean chills xo
This scene was a cinematic masterpiece. Favorite part of the film.
This part of the film was so beautiful. I was about to cry.
This song reminds me of Luke Skywalker saving his father: “I’ve accepted the truth that you were once Anakin Skywalker, my father.” / “That name no longer has any meaning for me.” / “It is the name of your true self, you’ve only forgotten.”
Anyone can destroy evil with a sword, but it’s the true hero that destroys evil with his heart.

This song is the shortest, but definitely my favorite, and what i think to be the most meaningful/moving.... It was a moment (among many) where I found myself tearing up outta nowhere. And the words can be interpreted and applied to other situations. I think anyone who has experienced pain can relate, and needs to hear these words.
Easily the most spiritual part of the movie for me, especially how Moana walks slow motion than gives a hongi, beautiful :-)
JimmyJames82 yesss I know and her singing and mouth are in normal speed, the magic, everything... amazing! And yet as you said all the rest of her is slow motion!
Most of the time, the ones we consider "enemies" are in fact the lost ones who need our compassion and are only "enemies" because we took something away from them that caused a hardness in their heart.
ALWAYS giving me chills
This scene took my breath away.
Mary Cole me too! I keep rewatching it 😭😭
I really thought Moana was going to sacrifice herself when this came on, even though I knew Disney would never actually do it.
Powerful stuff
Cameron Floyd disney might hv done it if it were d 90s
Cameron Floyd why did you think that?
