I got an 1982 XJ 550 earlier this year and I absolutely love it! The sound and the way it rides are just excellent. My buddy who is a vintage car enthusiast and collector says it sounds similar to an old Ferrari when he's riding behind me.
26 years this was my daily driver !! Loved it from the second I got on it ! Super comfortable ride and man this bike can SCREAM !!! Never had to take it apart , maintenance issues with the brakes and forks are as expected and laid out in the owners manual . Apologies to the 82 920 Virago I left sitting at home so so so many times because I would rather ride the Maxim !!! Thanks for the ride along !!
Nice ride! Welcome to the world of older bikes! Now you have something else to tinker with! That bike is in excellent shape and you got a great deal on it!
I have the same bike have to change rear sprocket fork seals brakes and tires. But for a 1981 with only 13000 miles she runs good. Great video you made Pete knows
I have one myself. i only put on some other mufflers and also other handlebars. its a beaut. If i may give you a small tip. give it some whitewall tires. it looks beautifull on them
I bought one of those used in 1985 . I brought it with me to the Mojave desert and wound up racing it quarter mile on the weekends . That bike was extremely quick . I beat many larger displacement bikes because it had 6 gears . I wound up turning it into a desert rat bike . I climbed hills dirt bikes wouldn't touch . I jumped so many natural ramps my header was all bashed in at the base . I would ride wheelies 1st through 4th gear before setting it down . I beat it up bad . It quit scaring me was the only reason I sold it . A year after I sold it I was checking it out at a swap meet and the guy tried selling it to me for more than I originally paid for it . I started laughing at him . He asked me how I knew it was once my bike because he rebuilt it entirely. I pointed at an ant that got trapped inside the tach . I told him that was a Louisiana and . A couple of years after I moved back to Louisiana I got a call from a friend who told me the present owner was thrown in jail and the bike was still in my name all I had to do was fly out , pay the impound and ride it home . I didn't go get it yet I will never forget it . It's much quicker than most bikes bigger than it . I did get beat by a Honda nighthawk 650 . I've had many many bikes since then . None of them made me as happy as that one . I beat it up and it kept saying , do it again . A 4 into 1 Kerker header sounds great on that .
It's very beautiful to see you again too soon. Keep it up. One thing I would like to share with you is that one of our actor from Bollywood industry commited suicide due to heavy mental illness. I pray that that kind of illness never touch you, but always stay happy and safe and if you ever felt uncomfortable, we are here for you. Love your work a lot and always there to support you. Love you bro. Keep being awesome.
I rode my buddies maxium and i loved it, decided to buy an xj 550 seca under the impression it was the same bike with a different tank... not so... tooooo much power for me right now
@@SoloMCRider i plan building one and selling one. I don't have any experience with bikes but i have engineering experience. What one would you suggest i keep for a starter bike ? They are in the same condition and would require the same amount of work. I want either a scrambler or a cafe racer as the Final look. Any advice would be appreciated
Hi congrats 🎊 I actually never got to the brakes, just worked on the cosmetics and engine cover and fuel lines. Before I got to the brakes some one was interested buying the bike so I sold it this spring! It’s a great around town bike ! Enjoy be safe
I was talking to an old man who used to have one of these he was talking about how fast it was and looked at my cbr929 and said it could keep up no problem I just looked and laughed my ass off I said 50 horsepower is good but not even close to the 150 plus I have with my power commander and exhaust system he was shocked at how much power newer bikes make and I said mine is slow compared to new ones pushing close to 300 I said the ,550s were quick for their time but snails in today's standards lol
Bought a 1982 XJ 550 Memorial Day weekend. Been riding it as much as I can. Great bike lot's of fun to ride.
Indeed it is a fun bike, perfect bike for around town, by the beach with the other half lol

One of the coolest bike ever made.
My first bike is gonna be one of these, bought this winter, so now I get to wait. It looks like a great bike.
Had the same bike as my first ride 25 years ago. So much fun . Don’t know if Yamaha still produces parts for this bike .
Revzilla has lots of parts I was able to gather!

I love it too !! Previous owner installed new tires but when it comes due I will definitely look into it!
I have this same bike. Runs and rides but needs carb work and some other minor fixes.

Just picked up a 1983 today. From original owner. Hoping for a fun summer too.
What do you use to hold your phone? I have a 1982 model, excellent bike.
