YAMAHA XJ550 - Ride and Sound

A ride with the YAMAHA XJ550
When I bought it in 1983, Valentino Rossi was 4 years old.
The XJ550 was considered quite sporty and was the
4-stroke alternative to the RD350LC 2-stroke rocket.
Technical specifications:
50 hp, 113 mph, 202 kg
In the meantime, she has carried me 4 times around the world
and is used less often because of 2 more modern motorcycles.
But you can do everything:
Crossing the Alps with luggage or the weekend ride ...
I can also use the XJ550 in powerful and brisk motorcycle groups,
if these are somewhat life affirming.
Then nobody believes that it only has 50 hp - when I use 6000 rpm
or more.

This was my first ' big' bike after passing my test in 1990. It was also the first bike to take me over to continental Europe. An excellent all round motorcycle. Great vid, thanks.

I really like that you can drive it like a maniac and still stay within legal speeds most of the time. It is a super fun and light bike, got the 550 Seca myself (US model). Nice bike!

I had one of these when they were new, in Mars bar colours, first 4 cylinder bike I had rode, thought it was a rocket, great bike.

I loved mine back in the day! It was a blast! it handled High RPMS redline no problemo! Used to smoke the NIJAS... but mostly the riders probably not the bikes but most of the time they were eating my dust! lol.. I made a few changes and man was that bike a gas!

Oh yes, you are so right. However, the way I drive it has changed a bit. I want to keep all these memories and so I enjoy every ride. Still not to slow, of course...

@eimantas28 I did not change anything. Sometimes I check the air filter, the sparkbplugs and the adjustation of the carbuarators. The adjustation of the valves did not change more many 10000 miles.

Jup. Ich kann dir in allen Punkten nur zustimmen. Kann mit größeren mitfahren. Macht Laune und begleitet mich seit mittlerweile fast drei Jahren als erste große Liebe die ich auch nie mehr hergeben wolle. Hat mich bis auf kleine Altersschwächen nie im Stich gelassen. Alle Probleme waren begehbar. Zudem ist es schön dass du sie Original gelassen hast. Das gab mir die Möglichkeit in Erinnerung zu schwelgen. Denn sie sah vor dem Unfall/Umbau ganz genauso aus. Inklusive Krauser Gepäckträger und Koffer.

Absolut Schönes Motorrad ! Wenn ich das richtig verstehe ist der Tacho schon einmal rum, d.h. 171‘000 km ? Noch der erste Motor oder schon mal überholt/ausgetauscht worden ?
Die XJ gelten ja als nahezu unzerstörbar....

Fast richtig, ist der zweite (gebrauchte) Tacho,
insgesamt sind es auf jeden Fall über 150.000. Motor ist nicht überholt und schnurrt.
Habe eben wieder neu TÜV bekommen.

Und läuft immer noch so klasse - wie man im Video sieht wird sie ja nicht nur im Schongang bewegt 😀
da ist meine alte Z650 Kawa mit 90.000 km ja wohl noch lange nicht am Ende 😀
