I'm in a doll buying hiatus for the foreseeable future because while i was working, i bought a lot of AGs as a placeholder for playing, and now that i'm retired, i need to pivot and actually play with them. Watching your excellent, playful videos really helps me feel like i have someone to play along with! I am also frequently reminded of PC and AG stuff i have but haven't yet unpacked from my move a few years ago after I retired and covid convinced me to move closer to a daughter. Of course, now I want a Beforever Molly outfit! I, too, always loved it! Darn it! May is my birth month, so maybe....

The first Shimmering Silver doll we bought (the one we kept in tact and named Elowyn) only cost us $45 after rewards and gift cards. I liked her so much I splurged on Primrose. I have that Beforever Molly that came in a tote of used dolls. She is wearing the sweater and skirt. The shoes came in a different tote of clothing and accessories (I bought that tote just for all the shoes that came with the outfits. About 10 pairs of AG shoes and the whole bundle was only $20 so worth that for the shoes alone). I just checked Wiki because I don't have the glasses and didn't know they existed. Those are so cute and I would like a pair but not going to search for them as they would probably be sold with the rest of the Beforever outfit. I also bought the Re-release Molly (new) when she came out and most of her re-released outfits and the accessories so I have the schoolbag, red purse, and navy beret. I don't have a red beret yet. That is on my wishlist but another item that I probably will never find for a reasonable price. You're lucky that you were gifted these items.

Just last month purchased all of the new release casual and boy outfits. I can't "gush" enough about Maplelea because of the quality (and price with exchange rate). The quality is so much better than what you get from AG now that I'm waiting for any new release of clothing. It won't probably happen until late summer. Note: I do like the purple hoodie sweatshirt (they are so well made) but avoid buying t-shirts or items with graphics (robotics graphic on the sleeve) so I probably won't buy it. I did buy the set that comes with the orange hoodie so that will have to do. P.S. I bought the moose slippers and love them. I buy a lot of animal slippers and this is the second pair of moose slippers (different style) that I have. I also have a few moose print pjs (Maplelea and other brands). I like outdoorsy style clothing. My dolls are the outdoorsy type.

I think so too! It's funny because living in Columbus, Ohio I'm super aware of the football rivalry between OSU and Michigan. But being utterly unconcerned about most sports, I don't think of using navy and yellow together as sacrilege. So I would dress a doll in the yellow pants and blue sweater (someone would inevitably comment about me being a traitor to the buckeyes, but oh well).
Thanks - you know I LOVE her in her original elvish look, but I know that's a very unique look. Much like the Disney princess, most people will feel strongly one way or another about those dolls in their original looks. But slight modifications can give them all such a more "every day" look. I just checked, and the cycling outfit was 10 years after the rock climbing outfit. 2003/2013...the only reason I checked was I remembered the rock climbing one out when we were collecting, but never got it (I love the color of the jacket)...I didn't know about the cycling outfit until this past December, so I knew that had to be during the time we stopped collecting for around a decade.
That outfit was only available on one doll and it was available in Costco in 2018 and on AG's website for a hot minute in 2019. So if she's after the outfit, Ebay will be your best bet. The doll was a limited edition doll that sold out and I later customized her, so best bet would be to let her pick out another doll she likes and put the red and blue outfit on whatever doll she chooses :)

Couldn't be me, friend. I've gotten some great deals on dolls and doll stuff, but never at Goodwill (or any of the other thrift stores I frequent, for that matter). The rock-climbing set is a bit older than the cycling outfit. It’s very early 2000s if not older while the cycling outfit is from the Innerstar U era. They are probably at least ten years apart.

But IDK if they have the XL and even if they do, the AG sale price is $33 and I paid $10 so I'd say I got a GREAT deal. And I agree - it's a fun set - we have most of the pieces :)
What a great unboxing! That homemade outfit is amazing! I especially like the skirt. And how neat that you found a shirt in the same pattern as the AG top. I'm not buying anything right now -- it's the end of the month, so I'm not going over my monthly budget (and my hobby budget is *all* my hobbies, so not just AG, though it's starting to mostly get shunted to AG for now). My next big purchase will be either a custom or CYO, or else Julie's New Year's Outfit. The latter tends to be really expensive for AG outfits, but Julie is one of the few dolls where I want almost her entire collection, and that's my favorite AG outfit, overall. My partner and I are also planning to buy some restoration tools. There are a lot of pretty common household things like blow dryers, steamers, and acne cream that we don't have, just because we don't use them for ourselves that we want to pick up for doing repair and restoration.
You mentioned your monthly budget. I have a friend who approaches her doll spending this way as well. Grace and I approach our doll budget differently (annual budget) so I have questions - if you don't go over one month, does it roll over? If something is on a great sale, would you dip into the next month's budget and then just spend less the following month? I'm always interested to know what does and doesn't work for people about the way they manage the money aspect of their hobbies. And that's exciting about getting some restoration tools!
@@agtakesover I saw your video on that -- I thought it was a great topic because I don't think people talk about the financial aspects of hobbies often enough. For me, yeah, when I don't reach the limit in a month, it rolls over to the next month. That's how I get most of my more expensive purchases, I just keep saving up the rollover. I can dip into the next month and then spend less that month if I really want to, but I usually don't, and almost never for sales. When I do that, what I usually do it for is when a limited edition of something that I especially want comes out, and I'm not sure if it'll still be around the next month (one of my other major hobbies is fountain pens, and lots of limited and special editions come out for those). I also did it once years ago for a bass guitar. I have two bass guitars and that particular one was/is my dream instrument and no longer in production, so when I saw it selling for a good price, I snatched it up. But I'm super particular about when, why, how often, and for what I dip into the next month for. There are a couple of peculiarities about the way I run my budget, too. One is that my hobby budget is for all my hobbies, not each individual hobby. So, if I buy ag items one month, I'm probably not also buying knitting supplies, for example, or vice versa, unless both items are super cheap. Another thing is that my partner and I share finances, and we'll sometimes spend our portion of the hobby money on the other person. They just did that for me at the beginning of this month, because it was my birthday. A few months ago, I used mine to buy videogames for them that they had been wanting. There are also three months a year when my budget is bigger than normal -- my birthday and December when relatives and friends usually give me craft or hobby-related gift cards, and my anniversary when my partner and I usually celebrate by treating each other. I also go to one major hobby-related show a year, and so throughout the year, I spend part of my hobby budget by squirreling away money for that event so that I have more money available for it when it comes around each year. And thanks! I'm super excited about the restoration tools and I can't wait to have more things on hand to help with it.

I love the lacrosse outfit, but it makes me so mad they can do every other sport and usually multiple times, except field hockey! Where is my field hockey outfit? And yes, skorts are common for both lacrosse and field hockey.
Someone asked where's the fencing outfit. As a Bluey fan (and someone who sees local cricket matches on the field whenever we go to a nearby park on Sundays), cricket would be fun. Our first shimmering silver doll is 100% as she was when we took her out of the box - no changes (that's Elowyn). The slightly customized one (Primrose) has had a haircut and I removed her glittery lip paint and replaced it with this darker, matte color. As far as her earrings go, I double checked and their just some dangles I got from Joann Fabric jewelry section and put over standard AG posts.
Also, I just bought my first ever 18-inch Disney ILY doll, and she is adorable!! She’s great quality for $35! I got the red headed doll that comes in the Stitch onesie, but I also bought the Encanto outfit and just changed her into that, and I love it so much more! My friend (the one I was with when I met you at the benefit sale last year) got me the Pizza Planet ILY outfit, and I put it on Nicki, and she looks darling! 🍕🪐 Have you ever thought about getting into those dolls or any other doll brands?
How fun - the ILY dolls are pretty. I'm drawn more to AG because the eyes are more to scale so they feel more realistic. But we've gotten ILY outfits before. I might get one or two dolls from other lines, but neither my wallet nor my home size can accommodate a second doll line *collection* lol.

I usually buy most of my clothes off etsy and as a new collector, I’m spending more money than I probably should (within budget) to buy them clothes seasonally. I just finished buying clothes for the summer for the most part.
Lacrosse equipment : Those are probably wrist bands not ponytail holders. And the socks are heavier to imitate shin pads and facemask because the balls are hard not soft like a softball I live in Iroquois country, where Lacrosse is played on the playground Ginger over here in western NYS on the Allegany Reservation. The rock-climbing set is a bit older than the cycling outfit. It’s very early 2000s if not older while the cycling outfit is from the Innerstar U era. They are probably at least ten years apart.

You are so welcome! I was just looking at the Last Chance Outlet on AG's website and they still have that jacket in girls' sizes. But IDK if they have the XL and even if they do, the AG sale price is $33 and I paid $10 so I'd say I got a GREAT deal. And I agree - it's a fun set - we have most of the pieces :)

What a great unboxing! That homemade outfit is amazing! I especially like the skirt. And how neat that you found a shirt in the same pattern as the AG top. I'm not buying anything right now -- it's the end of the month, so I'm not going over my monthly budget (and my hobby budget is *all* my hobbies, so not just AG, though it's starting to mostly get shunted to AG for now). My next big purchase will be either a custom or CYO, or else Julie's New Year's Outfit. The latter tends to be really expensive for AG outfits, but Julie is one of the few dolls where I want almost her entire collection, and that's my favorite AG outfit, overall. My partner and I are also planning to buy some restoration tools. There are a lot of pretty common household things like blow dryers, steamers, and acne cream that we don't have, just because we don't use them for ourselves that we want to pick up for doing repair and restoration.
You mentioned your monthly budget. I have a friend who approaches her doll spending this way as well. Grace and I approach our doll budget differently (annual budget) so I have questions - if you don't go over one month, does it roll over? If something is on a great sale, would you dip into the next month's budget and then just spend less the following month? I'm always interested to know what does and doesn't work for people about the way they manage the money aspect of their hobbies. And that's exciting about getting some restoration tools!
@@agtakesover I saw your video on that -- I thought it was a great topic because I don't think people talk about the financial aspects of hobbies often enough. For me, yeah, when I don't reach the limit in a month, it rolls over to the next month. That's how I get most of my more expensive purchases, I just keep saving up the rollover. I can dip into the next month and then spend less that month if I really want to, but I usually don't, and almost never for sales. When I do that, what I usually do it for is when a limited edition of something that I especially want comes out, and I'm not sure if it'll still be around the next month (one of my other major hobbies is fountain pens, and lots of limited and special editions come out for those). I also did it once years ago for a bass guitar. I have two bass guitars and that particular one was/is my dream instrument and no longer in production, so when I saw it selling for a good price, I snatched it up. But I'm super particular about when, why, how often, and for what I dip into the next month for.
There are a couple of peculiarities about the way I run my budget, too. One is that my hobby budget is for all my hobbies, not each individual hobby. So, if I buy ag items one month, I'm probably not also buying knitting supplies, for example, or vice versa, unless both items are super cheap. Another thing is that my partner and I share finances, and we'll sometimes spend our portion of the hobby money on the other person. They just did that for me at the beginning of this month, because it was my birthday. A few months ago, I used mine to buy videogames for them that they had been wanting. There are also three months a year when my budget is bigger than normal -- my birthday and December when relatives and friends usually give me craft or hobby-related gift cards, and my anniversary when my partner and I usually celebrate by treating each other. I also go to one major hobby-related show a year, and so throughout the year, I spend part of my hobby budget by squirreling away money for that event so that I have more money available for it when it comes around each year.

Someone asked where's the fencing outfit. As a Bluey fan (and someone who sees local cricket matches on the field whenever we go to a nearby park on Sundays), cricket would be fun. Obviously, they make what they believe will sell, but they've made some less common ones in the past - they could do it again.

Our first shimmering silver doll is 100% as she was when we took her out of the box - no changes (that's Elowyn). The slightly customized one (Primrose) has had a haircut and I removed her glittery lip paint and replaced it with this darker, matte color. As far as her earrings go, I double checked and their just some dangles I got from Joann Fabric jewelry section and put over standard AG posts.
Also, I just bought my first ever 18-inch Disney ILY doll, and she is adorable!! She’s great quality for $35! I got the red headed doll that comes in the Stitch onesie, but I also bought the Encanto outfit and just changed her into that, and I love it so much more! My friend (the one I was with when I met you at the benefit sale last year) got me the Pizza Planet ILY outfit, and I put it on Nicki, and she looks darling! 🍕🪐 Have you ever thought about getting into those dolls or any other doll brands?
How fun - the ILY dolls are pretty. I'm drawn more to AG because the eyes are more to scale so they feel more realistic. But we've gotten ILY outfits before. I might get one or two dolls from other lines, but neither my wallet nor my home size can accommodate a second doll line *collection* lol.
