I love Marie Grace's heart-shaped face with that adorable chin.
To me she's always looked a little bit elvish (which is incidentally why I INSTANTLY fell for the Shimmering Silver LE doll - they leaned in to her slightly LOTR elf face mold).
The Marie-Grace face-mold is my favorite. She has the sweetest, kindest face and her original eye color is captivating. Of my 22 dolls, M-G is the treasured. My second favorite is the Joss mold; it looks like a refined classic mold. It’s lovely.
yknow, i just realized that there aren't any ag molds with cleft chin or an ag mold with dimples!
i think those would be cool to see if/when ag releases new molds

Thanks for being so kind about all the different face molds!… There is a RUclipsr I legitimately stopped watching after she made several disparaging remarks about the blonde dolls, calling them basic or unattractive (and even in Tenny’s case ugly). My mini me is a JLY 24 and I also look closely like Tenny and Julie. It was just disappointing to hear this person constantly saying negative things about the dolls that I feel represented by. Thank you for not being like that.❤️
I think it's okay to be honest about how we feel about the face molds without being unkind, knowing that each one is representative of *someone*. I hope when I express my preferences I don't ever come across as unkind :)
The Claudie sculpt is American Girl’s best work under Mattel ownership, IMHO. I hope we see her in the CYO and TM lines. Your take on Kaya makes me love her that much more 🤣
I agree about Claudie's mold! And I know I said AG seems to not care about her, but I only mean on a marketing level. Everything else...her stories, the heart and thought that went into her collection...that is so evident and I love it. I'm interested to see how her mold shows up in future AG dolls, but for now I'm enjoying trying different wigs on our second Claudie.
And I'm not wrong about our Kaya, am I? ;-)

I honestly feel like all the Joss mold dolls after Joss herself, look a lot older and also a bit mean because of their eyebrows. Those same brows on other dolls don’t give off that effect (at least to me), I just think in combo with the mold and the painted lashes, it just makes those dolls look a bit mean. Joss is a sweetheart tho
Totally disagree. I think #122 is stunning. She is top #3 in my group of 36.
ironically, I actually like 122. I think her hair makes her standout. Also, I didn't say I didn't like them, just that they look a bit mean. @@lindaf382
I think several of the other Joss mold dolls have their pros and I love that others love them, but I don't feel particularly attached to our Maritza, Nicki, Isabel, or Marley (our 122). They were all Grace's choices and I'm glad that she loves them. I'm just a Joss girl, I think.
hii ive been silently binging your videos the last few days and have worked up the courage to type out a comment haha. i love this video, i made a history of the face molds video and it was so much fun- i'm sure it was so enjoyable for you to show them all! i'm always quite proud of the fact that out of my 10 dolls, i have 7 face molds.

I started collecting American Girl around a year ago. I’m in Canada and middle-aged, so AG was never part of my childhood. I don’t dislike any mold, but once I realized there were other ones besides the original, I became more interested since I like variety in all the doll lines I collect. I still can’t quite tell them apart sometimes, but when I see a doll I like, it often turns out to be a Josefina mold.
I just got #122 and was trying to figure out why I didn’t like her as much as I thought I would, since I thought I liked the Joss mold. What you said about the eyebrows makes sense, and I think she will look better once I take her hair net off and the bangs come down.
It's interesting to see how some collectors notice the subtle differences in a singular face mold over time and others are like, "IDK which face mold that even is lol". It's not a competition and no one gets a prize for being able to say, "That indentation right there means that classic mold was early 1990 - probably 1992 or 3". But it's a lot like wine drinkers. Some are "super tasters" and others are like, "this wine tastes good - I don't need the details of its origins to enjoy it" and that's 100% fair.
Re: the 122, though, it could very well be the eyebrows. I'm interested to see how you like her with her bangs down.
I’m so glad American Girl has released more Marie Grace face molds now-I really think it was Marie Grace’s hairstyle that made people not connect with her. I love the Josefina mold and have way too many of her face mold 😂😂😂 With Nanea, there was also critique because that was when they used different eyes that were whiter and you could see the eye sockets more so it also didn’t help Nanea’s look. They eventually switched them out and people had an option to send them back to get the eyes changed (I never did as some people got their dolls back messed up after the eye swap). I absolutely adore the Addy mold, she is my childhood Pleasant Company doll and I love her so much. 🥰 I never knew that about the classic mold and I’m going to try not to see if any of mine have that shadow 😅😂 I’m so glad you found a number four that connected with you!!
"I'm going to try NOT to see if any of mine have that shadow" cracked me up. Hey, I want everyone to love their dolls and I don't want to ruin that for anyone. So I hope nothing I said about that shadow has any negative effect. And re: the Addy mold, I honestly think it's one of the most consistently issue-free molds. I wish they'd use it more!

I think I don't have as much of an eye for the differences in the Classic and Addy molds, because I mainly only notice the declining fullness in the faces of the newer ones. With Jess and Sonali, though, I really see the differences in the eyes and all over. We only have one newer Jess mold and she's not the newest so I might not have the right collection to do that video, but I could try.

I love your channel & never miss a notification! I'm a transgender woman & have been married to the same man for 16 years. I love that you and your wife Grace have been together for a long time as well🙂❤️🌈.. I love the Marie Grace mold because she has such a delicate chin , She's just different. That might be a reason too.🤷🏼 I have 4 CYO dolls, 3 Sonali's & a Josefina. As a trans woman, I was never allowed to play with dolls as a child, because "boys" don't play with dolls. Now I play with them and spend hours dressing them, doing their hair and just loving them. I also love making my own customs .😊Not those horrible dolls with sharpie eyebrows that some doll owners think look fabulous,etc😬😵🤭. I now own 40 dolls. I began collecting AG dolls around the time Gabriella was GOTY. My favorite face molds in order. Josefina-Sonali-Joss-Addy-Jess-Marie Grace-Classic-Nanea-Claudie-Corinne-Makena -Kaya.

I feel like in terms of quality and not having any common "issues", the Addy mold is one of the best AG has made. With a lot of the molds (Jess included, unfortunately) I feel like there's an obvious, "With that mold, you gotta watch out for XYZ. It's a common problem." But I never really hear that about the Addy mold (so wouldn't it be lovely if AG would use it more?). And I LOVE the older Jess mold dolls.
Yes i love ur idea of comparing the old and new face sculpts in depths... if u do that, the video of the face molds u talked about i think u said u would do two but could u include Addy... i know ill like whatever u decide to post 👍🏿🤙🏼💘🤩
I don't have an example of the oldest Addy mold (we had an older PC Addy but sold her). But our oldest one is from somewhere between 2009 and 2012 and we have the newest one (TM106), so that's 10 or 11 years between the two. Not perfect for the sake of comparison but I could add them in if I do that video :-)

Your Joss doll is literally the sweetest Joss I've ever seen! My favorite Joss mold is Tm 122. I think the Josefina mold is my favorite mold. :)
Aw, thank you so much. I really do think she's especially sweet! With your 122, do you keep her bangs as curtain bangs or brush them to one side?
@@agtakesover I keep them as curtain. I like curtain bangs but i know some folks don't.
The Joss mold is one of my favorites! I personally prefer the newer joss molds with thicker eyebrows, I think Joss herself can look a little surprised sometimes if her eyebrows are a tad too high. I have never been a huge fan of the Marie Grace mold, I honestly don't know if I'll ever add it to my collection. I like Nanea herself, but not the other dolls with her face mold for some reason. I think she's also a tricky one where some dolls can look a little bug-eyed if the space between the eyes is slightly too convex.
It's interesting how finicky these dolls are, or perhaps how detail oriented collectors become. If an individual doll's face is just a little squished or an eye isn't perfectly straight we can instantly notice and say "oh, this one's not as good" 😂 I feel bad for the dolls but at the same time I've become paranoid about wanting to pick dolls in person or secondhand with tons of photos so I know I'm getting a perfect one!
Yes, a lot of us definitely become picky. I would love to see them do different eyebrows on a Joss mold. Neither the classic feathered ones nor the current ones. Maybe Grace or Lea eyebrows?
I loved this video! I hope to one day have all of the "feminine" face molds, but like you I'm picky and I want the perfect #4. She's the only one I'm missing. The coloring is almost always the deciding factor. I've always been interested in the variations of face molds over time, so I think that would be a fun video to see, too!
Yes! I am one of the oddballs that actually likes the "newer" #4 molds better (partly because of the shape and partly because of the coloring) so it was disappointing when they were out of them at the doll hospital. But Lily has very nice coloring for being as old as she is.
This was a great video! I love so many of the face molds. Josefina is my favorite, but Joss is a close 2nd and I think tied for 3rd is Jess, Sonali, MG, Addy and Nanea. Although, the original Sonali mold is so so much better. The new ones eyes are also rounder, in addition to being closer and deeper set. Actually, a lot of the newer face molds have rounder eyes, which is odd because human eyes definitely are not round, but much more oval. I do think the Makena mold looks like a baby doll and yours looks like a baby doll in a Kwanzaa outfit. :) I do however think they made a huge improvement in her mold with the Costco 123. Her eyes are not as round, but much more oval, which gets rid of all of the white under her iris's, which looks so much better and she doesn't look like a baby doll. :) You're right that you are a CYO great deal magnet. You have so many amazing CYOs that flew into your lap. :) I do really like Corinne and Claudie's molds and may end up with an Oh Deer Custom of one or both of them some day. Time will tell. I'm really enjoying my 8 dolls right now, so I'm not in a hurry. I'm pretty sure that Corinne has a completely different-sized eye (bigger) and that she can't be eye swapped for that reason. You're right that she does look more like an ILY. I think Nanea looks like a Wellie Wisher, but I've always thought she was cute. I love my Maritza custom with the painted eye lashes, but you're right that the original Joss does look younger. My custom MG looks like the youngest doll in my collection. She does have a sweet little youthful face. I LOVE your description of the look on Kaya's face. Spot on. :) Thanks for sharing!!
I always love reading your comments! I also noticed differences in TM123 and find her a bit more appealing. I do think the only drawback in the Costco version is her lip paint - pretty small compared to her actual lips. Evelyn fixed that on hers, though, and her 123 looks GORGEOUS!
@@agtakesover I'm so glad you enjoy my comments. :) I enjoy writing them. :) Yeah, it is weird that they gave 123 such dainty lips. I do remember seeing Evelyn's girl and that she was gorgeous. Thankfully adding lip color is easier than removing it, although I've only done it with washable markers. But I know many people successfully do their own doll lips.
The outfit that Jess is wearing you featuring it in another video . I put it on Cluadie using her bow and I used Rebecca’s Beforever meet shoes. Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for the inspiration.

I’m a Josefina mold girly for life, but truthfully I do think every mold is cute. I’ve even become something of a classic mold stan. It took me a long time to come around on the makena mold but the more I see her on agig the more I like her. I have to say, what finally tipped me over was seeing a couple Makenas with all their painted lashes removed. When they started giving every doll painted lashes I was one of the people who said I don’t mind it but I’m beginning to realize I may have lied unintentionally 😂.
Yes - Makena without her painted lashes is definitely an improvement. Grace is the one who bough Makena or trust me - those lashes would have been loooong gone lol.
My favorite was always the Josefina mold until AG started releasing new molds. Now, I prefer the Sonali and Joss molds with Josefina close behind. Nanea took awhile to grow on me but now I like her mold. I’ve never like MG’s face mold and more exposure hasn’t changed that for me. I find Claudie absolutely gorgeous except I wish her mouth wasn’t open. My dolls are in their late teens/early 20’s and she just looks too young for me. Makena has the same issue for me, although I do like the combination of color and hair in the new Costco doll with her mold. I adore Addy, but I tend to like the newer face molds of hers. Kaya is just super chill, a very calm peaceful face. I really like Logan with her face. I think that I’ve only seen 1 or 2 #4’s in my life (in person). I did follow Inky’s blog back in the day and I do prefer the newer #4 face molds.
I like the Josefina mold (despite the count at the end of this video, it's not my favorite mold) but I do think a lot of Josefina mold dolls have eyes that don't want to both look at the camera ever. That mold seems a bit more prone to wonky eyes than some others.
I love Marie-Grace molds now, especially when customized. The original doll coupled with the original wig and tendrils isn’t my favorite.
Same with Joss! Love the mold, but I can’t with her thin, layered wig. I sold my first Joss, but bought another to customize. I actually see a lot of similarities between the Joss and MG mold. I’ve been told I resemble both, too.
Are your favorite MG dolls ones that AG has made or that others have customized?
Ones others have customized although I do like several AG has made, too. I just don’t own them (yet?). My only two MG molds are two original MGs I personally customized.

Thanks for the idea! There are several ahead of this one, but I'm definitely adding it to my idea notebook and I'd be happy to do that for a future video! And yeah...the collection grew a lot more than I thought it would in 2023!
The only face mold I didn’t like was the Jess face mold. Because to me, the doll didn’t look Asian she looked sad lol. But for some reason, it’s striking on Kanani with her tan skin and hazel eyes. So when I get my next CYO it’s gonna be a Jess mold with dark tan skin 😁❤
I LOVE the older Jess mold faces. Though even with them, consistency in the eyes has always been a challenge for AG. I hope your Jess mold CYO experience is everything you hope for!!
Funny I never really think about all the different face molds. Except for Addy i just go by the dolls of color and the dolls I like their look. I never realized i have every mold except for Nanea and Corrine and number 4. If I could afford it I would get all the Addy molds as part of my collection
12 dolls have been made with Addy's mold. We have nine of them. The one we don't have that I definitely want is #11, and if I can find one either at a great price in TLC condition or in great condition but at a steeper price, she's on my list for 2024.
I only have three but will start to really look in the coming year. I have so much stuff I really need to downsize then I can focus on getting my Addy molds. Have a great Holiday season and again thanks for the great videos.@@agtakesover
I have a newer joss and my friend has a later joss and there's even differences. Mine has a "staring into the void" look because of the brows and eyes a little, but my friend's looks just like yours! I like the joss mold overall (:

I will say this every time…your Joss is special. So cute. I also love your custom Nanea mold Maile (sp?). I think #4 is the only mold I don’t have. I also don’t have the boy Sonali mold - yet. I think the Jess and Josefina molds are 2 of my favs. The newer Sonali mold makes me a little sad. Another great video!

@@agtakesover I’m not dying to get a #4. I’ve thought about it. I’ve seen some cute pics of some 4s but I don’t find myself connecting to many I’ve seen listed. I especially don’t want to spend the $ I continually see her listed for. And yes, top 10 bad decisions made by AG could be an interesting video.

Soo excited to adding #75 to our collection!! Was really bummed when I found out most of the boys for Truly Me were discontinued. Apparently they found a bunch, cause he's back on for the Black Friday sale!! 😮

The joss mold is kinda odd sense all of them kept the hearing aid ears even when they don’t come with a set
I personally think they ether should make a joss mold v2 without the ears made for earring aids or give all joss mold hearing aids
It doesn't bother me, but I can see how it might bother others. I just think the face itself is so cute (and I keep hoping AG will move on and give this mold different brows in the future so I can buy another Joss mold lol)

She absolutely is! I always feel like words fail me with her - she's just perfect!
Your 'Luca' looks very much like my 14-year-old granddaughter. I have kept Joss because she also resembles my Chloe, but Luca is a dead ringer. I really like the classic mold. I prefer the changes to this mold made by Mattel and have tried to collect more recent issues of the historical girls. I really love Claudie, too. My 36 y/o daughter took her #4 home, so now I can't see her every day but I've read that the earlier 4's were of a different skin tone.
Aw, your granddaughter must be beautiful! And I like reading from collectors who have a preference for newer versions of a mold. It's definitely a minority opinion. But personally I'm generally fonder of newer #4 molds than older ones, so I get that.
My issue with Makena and many of the newer dolls today (Josefina mold especially) is the wider eye sockets, which results in the dreamer look. Many people love that, but too much white under the irises bugs me. I exchanged my Lila this weekend for the same issue, and there were many on the shelves just as wonky eyed as my original. The Josefina mold is one of favorites, and I have just as many of it as I do classic (17 and 17), but I don’t like that little quirk.
I think that's an accurate and fair take. I did see your replacement Lila and think you did luck out. We also felt like we looked through easily 40 of them when we went to her release event. Between the eye socket issue and the times when one eye's lashes were more straight out and the other's were more curled up, it was VERY hard to find a good one.
I love the hat on your Addy mold! Is it AG? I'd love to find one. BTW #124 Corinne mold is AWESOME with the jet black hair. Love her even better than my Corinne and I have 3 of Corinne.
Her bonnet is not AG. It's from Bev's Bedtime Bonnets on Etsy. It was a custom order but I imagine she'd be happy to do a custom order for you. I got six of them and they're all reversible. Love them! Also, I need the story behind your three Corinnes! Are any of them customized?
Hi Kristie, I didn’t realize that each face mold had a boy counterpart. I’m not sure I am a fan that they all have a closed mouth like Kaya. I thought that was special to her. I notice that the boys also seem to have bushier eyebrows. I am with you on Claudie. She is almost unmatched in cuteness!💕
Not every face mold has a boy counterpart, but some do. In the past, they had Logan (Kaya), and TM dolls with Jess, Addy, Classic, and Sonali molds. Then they retired them one by one and when the new TM line came out, they only offered Classic and Sonali. So unless you go through the CYO generator and get either Kaya or an open-mouthed, thinner-browed option, Classic and Sonali are the two currently available "boy dolls".
I’ve been watching yellowjackets lately, and in season 1 one of the main characters’ son has a boy addy mold! Unfortunately (minor spoilers) the doll gets quite damaged.
I've never heard of that show, but I'll check out the trailer. Cool that he has the boy Addy mold!

I have both Corinne and #124. Corinne is prettier to me! #124's lashes are not as nice and I had to rewigged her because it was dry and shed! My least favorite molds are Sonali and Jess, only because of the inconsistencies. I love the Claudie and Marie Grace face molds!❤
Sorry to hear 124's wig was in bad shape! And regarding Jess and Sonali, it's weird...Older Jess and Sonali molds are two of my favorites but the newest iterations of them are two of my *least* favorites.
I'm not sure why I am not the biggest fan of the Marie-Grace mold, but it's slowly growing on me. I finally got Kavi Sharma, and I do love her.

I can see that for sure. It's think it's the curls in large part. We have two of her (we change the wig out regularly on one) and when she doesn't have curls I don't feel that similarity.

Corines mold wasn’t to make the eyes wider i think they just wanted try make an Asian mold that didn’t need the painted corners
Oh, did AG officially comment that somewhere? I hadn't read that anywhere. I never assumed anything about their intent, but the reality (as customizers have confirmed) is that the eye sockets are a bit bigger.
@@agtakesover I just think that was the point of her mold a lot of people focused on her eyes being wider but looking at her mold I feel like it wasn’t in any attempt to be more cartoony but more so an attempt at making another Asian Mold so no official word I just feel like that’s what they were going for
I wonder if AG ever gets their molds mixed up? I bought a Claudie from their web site and she doesn’t look like all the other Claudies I’ve seen. Definitely not as sweet as the doll photos on the website. When I saw your Makena just now, I think that’s the doll mold I have with darker skin! I ended up making my Claudie into a boy doll and love him that way, but you’d never guess he had been Claudie.
