    This is how I load and haul a bike. I typically use a chock with the bike straight up and down and soft straps, as well as use an incline, but tried to show how you can load up in an emergency when a friend comes to your rescue. That being said, I hauled my bike just like this, with these exact straps and no chock from Atlanta to Ft. Worth Texas without any problems.

      Yep! And a better way would be to strap the bike onto the roof. This way, while driving, he can hold the bike securely with his left arm. This is called "the mattress technique"

    I've been loading Dirt bikes and Harley bikes since probably before you were born, but you taught me several things here today ! I always attached the top of my straps to my handlebars. On dirt bikes it was easy, but on my Harleys I had to use smaller loop straps on the handlebars and then attach the normal hold down straps to them, and being Harleys without much space on the handlebars it was still sketchy. I never thought about putting the straps around the Triple Clamps ! And the trick of taking the strap around the triple clamp and fork and then looping it over the hooks so you don't need the smaller loop straps,, Man, that is Genius. And I never thought about running a strap around the front and back tires to keep the bike from bouncing. Thank you so much for teaching this old dog new tricks ! I guess I am just dense. LOL.I always have had issues trying to secure my Bikes to my Motorcycle lift. Now I have your method and everything will be much better.And yes, I always had problems with the front tire skidding on the way down the ramps, so your idea of putting the bike in gear and using the clutch as a backup to the front brake is a great addition to your method.Thanks a million !

    I will be putting my bike on a trailer soon and I bought a ramp. My wife suggested buying a second ramp and now I've find your video using 2 ramps. I'm going to get a second ramp. Your vid made it look so much safer than trying to step up onto the trailer while holding the bike. This is the first video I've seen (and I've watched dozens) that used 2 ramps. And I picked up other tips as well that I hadn't seen on other vids, like the strap over the hook and in gear and using the clutch. Thanks for the video mate.

    Great vid for those that only have basic straps most vids dont have these instructions. My ramp is about half as long and twice as steep as a result. Tried walking it up and almost had bike flip on me. Just hit the break lowered it down and decide to just ride it up which is much easier. Maybe easier to walk it up on shallow ramp but will be hard to keep up with bike speed on a steep 1 and ones that are hard to walk up like mines.

    The critical point is to get your MC up the ramp, a big tip for this is to use lots of throttle and quickly let go of the clutch when the bike is on the ramp. Since stress is a big factor for failure you'd need some relaxing music while doing this, my recommendation is Frank Sinatra - Fly me to the moon.
    Don't forget to upload to youtube if you record it!

    i have seen far, far, FAR too many pickup trucks with bent truck beds rubbing the truck cab because they load their bikes and taco the truck bed with the front wheel. i think it is much safer to park with the front tire put into the corner of the truck bed. i have also backed up into a small hill and driven my bike straight into the truck bed. also used a loading dock a few times behind k-mart/safeway to load & unload my bike. alot of those are made away from the building with lots of room.

    I have never agreed with strapping the bike down tight on the side stand. The suspension should take up all the bouncing and jarring as you travel down the road, the side stand is not intended for this. The straps are plenty strong enough to hold the bike upright. You mentioned that you usually use a front wheel chock, obviously if the front wheel had been in a chock you would have had the bike upright and not on it’s side stand which is the way I do.

    • @jpcycles

      Once the bike is pulled towards the right side with the strap, pressure on the stand is limited. I leave the stand down and the bike leaned as a back up just in case of strap failure. I have never had a stand break, but there is a risk of just about anything happening.

    I have been taught you never transport a bike resting on the jiffy stand, (kick stand). Going over bumps you CAN bend the jiffy stand. Just saying.

    • @jpcycles
      @jpcycles  8 лет назад +4

      Once the bike is pulled over to the right hand side, there is not much pressure on the jiffy stand. I leave it down as a fail safe in case a strap should break or come loose. As mentioned in the video, you should strap the rear wheel to prevent hop if the stand is down. I have always done it that way and have never had any damage. Thanks for watching.

    • @jackclark1994

      you should be able to. most beds are 6 1/2 feet. if not, you can buy tailgate supports that latch into the hinges while loading,and use the tailgate as a bit of an extension , and just take the supports out during transport, there shouldn't be that much of the rear wheel sticking over on the tailgate
