@XHobbiesPrime I get it. Had money for both tudor and longines, went with 2 longines. Blue and Black. The only thing the closely resembles my longines, is my other longines. I love how it's not trying to look like a cheaper variant of other watches.
I love mine (green bezel, brown dial on the strap). Date window is perfectly centered. I don’t expect to be changing straps so the 21mm is a non issue. Numerals are absent of any green hue that I can see. Having it on the deployment strap eliminates the clasp issue. I’m very satisfied
I am the 42 mm owner, my date window without the alignment issue. But do have another QC issue that after 3 months of use , I found that the hour hand could not turn backward that make me have a date adjustment issue. Then return to the repair centre for 2 months and give me back the rectified Zulu Time. No problem at all. I still love it.
Great review. Love the Spirit Zulu watch. I just bought a Longines Ultra-Chron dive watch. With its sapphire bezel, hi-beat movement and black/red Nato...it's a winner.
Longines has dealt a blow to the Black Bay GMT with this watch and with the recently realesed Hydroconquest GMT, I think Longines will be clearly ahead when it comes to GMTs. Longines has been the most exciting brand in recent years, in my opinion. A lot of their new releases has been very popular and I don't think you can say that for most other brands. I am very excited for their new Hydroconquest diver, if they go with the rectangular hour markers instead of the round markers like the new Hydroconquest GMT and put in the high beat 5Hz ultra chron movement inside (and without a date haha), it would be an incredible watch!
C'mon man! People who complain about not having on-the-fly clasp adjustment need to get a grip. You can change the length with something like a paperclip or a toothpick. Personally, I have mini springbar tools in my desk, my car, and my backpack. I am never more than a few feet away from something to change the bracelet length.
Huge hit to the black bay gmt in my opinion. I own the black bay pro and I remember handling the bigger version of the zulu time and in my opinion longines was the better finished piece compared to tudor.
Yeah between this and the BB GMT I'm definitely choosing this. I wish I still had my BB Pro but yeah the Longines just had the x factor of it looking a bit more special overall. That said the tfit clasp was a game changer for the pro and helped make it the great watch that it still is
A refreshingly honest take. I’ve been saying for a year that anybody that honestly holds the two in hand side by side- no way they come away with the BB. Especially for more money. But a lot of Tudor people are almost cult like in their fandom and won’t admit this
Yeah it’s a kickass watch. I have the 41mm version. I didn’t realize it has 21mm lug width. That’s dumb, but doesn’t affect me on this watch since I really like the bracelet. It definitely needs a better clasp with micro-adjust. Longines please give us micro adjustment on the clasp!!! It would be a nearly perfect watch with that!
Yeah there are some solid 21mm strap options I thankfully found a good rubber strap for it although it looks a bit too wide for my taste. I'll be able to squeeze in a 22mm leather strap in there as well!
I completely agree with you about the clasp. At this level, and at this point in time, I find it virtually inexcusable. Grand Seiko has this same problem as well with their clasps, when there are aliexpress watches with quick adjust clasps for 2% of the price of the new tentagraph.
It’s a good thing I purchased my Omega Seamaster 20 plus years ago…because Longines makes unbelievable quality watches. And I think their finishing is beautiful. I own a few Longines…and my wife owns a couple too. Bang for the buck…hard to compete with Longines. Enjoy the watch….its gorgeous. With regards to your date window being off….open BOTH eyes. Eh eh eh
That off-centre datewheel is an issue that often shows up on 8800-calibre Omegas for twice the price; not an excuse, just an interesting point, considering both movements are built by ETA.
Just look few days ago sz time in titanium grade 5, 39 mm, Absolutely stunning. Only issue imho the link holding with pins but regarding the total weight of 95.5grs, no pbm at all.
This was my favorite watch of last year, especially the green and gilt and I'm normally not a fan of gilt but it's beautiful. Shame about the clasp and the bracelet is reminiscent of a Grand Seiko. Thanks for the review 👍
Great vid! Would you happen to know if the 21mm rubber strap for the Hydroconquest (with the interchangeable system) fits? Such a big miss to not have rubber strap options with the quick exchange system otherwise. Thank you!
Beautiful watch, I’ve been eying these for a while. Everything about this watch I love, even the stars on the dial. Everything but the 21mm strap. It’s not like Longines doesn’t know that odd number strap width takes a lot of strap options away. See through case back would be a nice feature too but that’s just me. I really like seeing the movement. On the fly adjustment is always nice but not absolutely necessary. True GMT function is the most important and Longines seems to have nailed with that! I’m really happy to see that. All in all, beautiful watch + True GMT…less than 4K dollars….I’m very happy to see this watch in the catalogue. Hopefully it looks as good on my wrist as I think it’s going to look. I really think it looks great!

Selling my ZULU TIME green bezel model in 39mm purchased new last february. Letting it go for cheap...if anyone interested let me know i can provide my fb listing for it.
Got that exact 39mm in black last week. Date is properly centred, but that green hue on the dial numerals really catches my eye most of the time and it annoys me more than the clasp situation.
I have the 39mm Zulu and another Longines with a 22mm lug. The Zulu seems to take the 22mm leather strap quite well. Any risks to that? Would you squeeze on a 22mm nato or let it sit a bit loose? I'm not planning on putting one on, just wondering about this from a hypothetical point of view for other watches.
Putting a 22mm strap on a 21mm lug width watch is perfectly fine for the watch. However there might be a bit of extra wear on the lug end of the strap but I've seen that the leather stretches back out. I do this all the time with my 19mm watches. As for a 20mm strap on a 21mm lug I don't think it'll be my less secure since the tension is still well distributed but for me I can't stand seeing that 1mm gap. But that's entirely personal so if it works with you then go for it! Sean Connery as James bond did it so all is well lol!
@@thewatchidiot well, if Sean did it, who am I to say no? I feel I'd be inclined to squeeze a 22mm nato band on. I wonder if it would compress nicely or be lumpy. Thanks for the detailed reply, looking forward to other videos.
The hydro is a lot cheaper and probably not that well finished. Still, it's amazing and because I don't have the budged for the Zulu, I will take a Hydro. Also its more sportier.
Yeah I have a feeling the finishing on the hydroconquest won't be at the same level but the quick adjust clasp is a huge plus point. Overall thats a very handsome watch! But given the high level of execution on the Zulu time and the fact that I'm enjoying the new experience of not wearing a diver I think I'd choose this Zulu time. That said I'm really excited to see the new hydroconquest!
Nice on TWI! I've not seen this new version in person but I was very impressed with the current version when I had a look in the AD last year. As you mention the finish quality is way above the price point and the detail on the dial is sublime. I didn't notice any misalignment of the date at the time remembering this was the bigger model and these details like hand alignment including the GMT are things that I look for. I have to agree that I would have preferred an on the fly bracelet adjustment and to be honest might have gone for that over the quick release. I currently have the GMT base covered but I dare say I'll take a look at this watch at some point but another watch in the collection may have to move on to make room for it and for me that would be a very tough call. Many thanks for sharing a clear review of a great watch as always.
Thanks Anthony! Yeah Longines did really well on this one and the case finishing continues to surprise me! I think I'd agree as well, as good as the quick release bracelet is if I had to choose between that and a quick adjust clasp I'd have to go for the clasp bc it's so useful for me on a daily basis. All that said I'm loving how different the watch is compared to the rest of my divers it's a great palette cleanser. I think it could find it's way into your collection!
Tried one on the other day. Much nicer than the Tudor’s I’ve owned in past. Tudor’s feel like a bunch of parts made by various different companies and then all chucked together because that’s what they are. The Longines feel much more refined and they don’t have the Rolex baggage too.
@@cousineddie3302you obviously don't know longines is running circles around Tudor. Longines is #8 worldwide with 5.6% market share... Tudor isn't even near the top 10 with less than 2% market share 😅
Beautiful watch and great review. This one is now on my list. Thanks for sharing. Btw, you're spot on with regards to the clap. Truly disappointing with today's competing brands.
Thanks I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video! Yeah it's worthy of a spot on everyone's wish list and yeah the lack of a quick adjust clasp is sad but the greatness of the rest of the watch makes up for it! And at the same time the greatness of the rest of the watch makes the omission more irritating😅
You know how when you jump the hour hand the minute and gmt hands start shuddering? Should that be a concern in the long run? For my collection personally it really sucks not having a quickset date since i let my watches wind down and stop and rotate through a bunch of them from day to day. So when i pick this watch up 2 weeks later, it would be such a pain having to change the date 14 days ahead 😅 I might get the spirit 37 or 40 instead although in terms of looks, this is a definite winner ❤ Thanks for the review
I cant believe your biggest gripe is on the fly adjustment. Yes it would be great to have to avoid playing with the pins but with a link bracelet surely when you've done it once you don't need to again unless your wrist keeps changing sizes.
Haven't yet pulled the trigger on this one, but oh yes I will. In Europe it does cost a fair bit more but then so does everything else so not really an issue. Not sure yet but perhaps the Hydro Conquest clasp is inter-changeble, even if it is it'll add quite a chunk to the final price which is a pity and would have been so easy for Longines to have avoided.
Odd lug size is not a big deal at all. There are literally thousands of straps available in 21mm. How many do you need?! The more important consideration is does the bracelet width feel appropriate for the case size.
The hunt for new watches will never end! The new hydroconquest is a pretty cool watch no doubt and I'll try to get one in for the channel bc it's checking off all the boxes for me especially with that quick adjust clasp. That said the Zulu time for me is extra special bc of how different it is compared to all my dive watches and the finishing is just spectacular so I think it's here to stay!
I’ve pretty much ignored this watch as I was unimpressed by its big brother. I only watched as i like your content and I usually like the same watches as you. I still love my BB pro but this longines does a couple of things better, it’s thinner and disguise's it’s thickness better. The gmt hand is more discrete. The removable bracelet is nice but Irrelevant as I’d expect the ad to take the bracelet off anyway as a bracelet without on the fly adjustment is pointless to me. For me the dial is just too busy especially with the diamonds around the edge but having watched this video I like it more than I did. Enjoy your new purchase.
That's awesome much appreciated!! The BB Pro is still a fantastic watch and I do miss mine! Yeah pilots watches aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea but hey that what keeps the watch world interesting, so I hope you enjoy your BB Pro well into the future!
The Zulutime 42 on leather strap actually does have an on the fly adjustment clasp...no bloody excuse Longines oh and the date change on the 42 Zulutime takes ages to change at midnight...dealbreaker that was so I bought the UltraChron...still no on the fly adjustment but at least no sodding date yay 😊
That's a very sharp looking watch😉 especially the macro shot of the case side and lug that was a fantastic shot and it shows just how good the transitions are. Well done TWI, I'm seeing this watch in a new light
Loool it really is a sharp looking watch in every way! Thank you so much for the kind words and yes I absolutely love that shot bc that was when I realized just how good the finishing is in terms of the transitions and in terms of the brushing!
Selling my ZULU TIME green bezel model in 39mm purchased new last february. Letting it go for cheap...if anyone interested let me know i can provide my fb listing for it.
Nice watch, but between the dial and the bezel, there are way too many numbers, making it confusing to read at a glance, especially when both dial and bezel are black. With a 24-hour bezel, the dial would have been better off with round plots (like the Rolex GMT Master). .
Great watch and review! Really impressed with the Omega style finishing and chamfers on this watch and the numerals are great. Is it weird that this makes me hold out hopes for a Hamilton Khaki Field GMT at some point?
Thanks as always Marc! They really did a great job here and I don't think it's far fetched to imagine this movement at Hamilton soon! A khaki field GMT would be very cool no doubt
I have the 42mm.. bought it before this was released and am considering trading mine for the 39mm. I haven’t noticed any misalignment on the date wheel, and now I’m scared to look, lol.
Clasp is a killer. Same as Grand Seiko, who on earth would they not include a smart micro on the fly adjacent! Nuts. The 5mm quick link on my Rolex Date just is perfect. I don’t need anything complex and I would imagine so easy for them to buy it in if needed.
These watch companies evaluate stuff like how wide the bracelet is and how charging a few hundred more may hurt sales. They don’t just wing it. It could be they want to sell their straps and making an odd size might drive sales to them. It seems like a very good deal. 70 hour power reserve has become my minimum. I hate setting date and time and don’t want to worry about having the watch off for a couple of days, is going to be a problem.
Oh yeah no doubt that Longines thought out the specs based on price and selling straps! Its more so about the fact that this watch is more on the enthusiast side of the spectrum so it would have been nice for them to make it more strap friendly for those who enjoy strap changing. Granted the bracelet is awesome so I don't see myself taking it off much! And yes 70+ hours is a huge plus for me as well I'm glad more brands are including them. A lower beat rate is a worthy sacrifice
The fact that the date is not centered is indeed a big deal for me. I was planning to buy one online, but I would rather wait until my local dealer has it and I can check my unit before but it.
I almost pulled the trigger for the 42 when it came out, but the lack of easy adjustment convinced me not to. I got a Tudor BB41 red bezel 2 months ago.
I have the 42mm green version, my date is also askew to the left. The weird thing is, however, is it more prominent in single digit dates. I feel it’s the spacing on the date wheel that is off, rather than the installation of the wheel that’s the problem.
Yeah it switches up on me which is why it really isn't bothering me very much and you make an interesting point about the printing issue. I have to wait for the single digits to come back but the angle there makes it seem like it's misaligned but then I looked at the "12" right now and while the 12 is slightly to the left the 1 is parallel to the side of the date window! So bizarre but a printing issue seems more likely now
Hydro GMT is 12.9 mm thick as advertised, and it is 300m WR. Why, Longines, why is this 39 zulu 13.5 mm thick? Please make it 12.5 mm thick or less and i would love to buy one or two zulus 😅. I got 2 Omega SMP blue and green, althou the dial is amazing i still wishfully think it should be a lil thinner. Thanks for the vid, man.
I bought a conquest classic 39mm my first luxury watch i found longines transparent honest and great value no bull shit great value watches that's why i went with them the zulu time is sick id love one ❤
That's an awesome purchase! Yeah Longines really seems to get things right in terms of value and I'm glad that they continue to do so with enthusiast watches as well. I've got even more respect for them now!
I really love my 42mm spirit gmt the one issue I have with mine is it isn’t really running in COSC standards. Haven’t put it on a timegraph but it’s probable +/-15 seconds a day. My Longines ultra chron is dead nuts on time. I just don’t want to send my gmt out to them for who knows how long?
Thank you for saying « Longines » the way it should be, ie with a silent « s ». Many famous RUclipsrs get it wrong, which is quite surprising for regular attendees to BaselWorld / Watches and Wonders
ZuluSpirit hands down is the highest value GMT in the market, delivered at an incredible price point by a watch company that actually developed the GMT in the first place in addition to a host of other movements. Longines could easily put together a watch they could sell at ROLEX price points. Why don’t they, well because they recognize that everyone has the right to own a piece of art and craftsmanship which is what Longines is all about. Love the fact that they keep their watches between $1K and $5K but still deliver technology in their pieces that would rival all the other usual suspects watch snobs love to talk about. Sorry for my rant there but just keeping it real. Not sure why people do not like the Five Stars either as Longines is just harkening back to their heritage and the watches from the past but understand that it’s all a matter of varying tastes. You cannot go wrong with a Longines watch hands down. They are a great company that has been around forever and that stands behind their product and customers. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! God bless!
I own the 42mm which is a great watch. My date window seems fine and if you buy the leather strap it has an ingenious micro adjustment in the clasp. My issue is the metal band wears large because of the male end points and really adds 3-4 mm on the wrist. I bet the 39mm wears more like a 50mm lug to lug. The leather strap solves this problem.
I tried this on and two things killed it for me , it looks tiny on my 7 1/2 inch wrist and the stuttering movement of the second hand reminded me of a $200 NH35 . Beautiful watch though
I had a terrible experience with Longines (Swatch Group) customer service related to this watch. I purchased this watch and then wanted to purchase the steel bracelet so I called Swatch Group to order it. When it arrived, the bracelet was defective with a loose screw holding one of the links. I called Swatch to return the bracelet the next day, which they said was fine. After the returned bracelet arrived at their warehouse, they refused to honor the return because the packaging the bracelet came in was opened. Not sure how else you are supposed to look at a product you order besides taking it out of the box. After this experience I would never buy a Longines/Swatch Group product and I will be selling my Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT. Buyer beware with Longines and Swatch Group.
I’ve had nothing but VIP service from Longines. My 30 year old chrono finally died and so I took it to Swatch Group. They sent it to Longines who said they didn’t have parts for it anymore. Instead they gave me a 70% discount on any new watch. The Spirit Zulu will join my Master Collection chronograph.
What's even worse, in my opinion, about the clasp is that they DID do some RnD for microadjustment... and put it on the clasp for the leather straps instead. 🙄
Spirit 37 has the date skewed to the left on just about every example I've seen. It's most noticable on 10-19. Others are mostly fine! Makes me think their printer is off.
if this watch had the on the fly clasp, it would be a slam dunk. It still is an amazing value and beautiful watch. But just that small tiny bit stops it from being absolutely perfect imo.
In comparison with Tudor, Tudor is Mucha better finished, designed, balanced watch. The Zulu Time the hands are not as discretely finished, I saw some debries in the second hand, the watch head is too heavy compared to the bracelet. And finally the price is not as sweet to choose the Longines above Tudor. Sorry can't accept your positives of this review.
The hydroconquest GMT looks like it'll be an amazing watch for sure! That said the Zulu time for me is especially good bc its such a great change of pace from my many divers😀
I have the BB58 and a Hamilton Khaki King(40mm) which looks like the Longines with the Arabic numerals. I just don’t see the comparison between a dive(Submariner) style watch and a field watch. Both are great but not comparable to each other.
I really like the Longines, BUT... I can't stand how the arabic numerals are not white... but an off greenish-yellow. The same reason I haven't purchased a Tudor Ranger. Sinn 556a gets it right.
Absolutely sick of guys moaning at watch manufacturers, wanting them to spoil the design by not having 21mm lug width, but say nothing to strap manufacturers for not making their cheap arse straps in 21mm!!
39mm watch and 21mm strap? That does not fit and makes the strap look way too big. That is why the Explorer as a 36mm watch now has a 19mm strap, the balance is perfect. And why do they put these stars on the dial?? Looks overloaded and would be much better without...
By no means this is a disappointing watch though, you are still getting a lot of watch for the money. And I feel the problems you mentioned are not dumb, like there's still micro adjustments in the bracelet. Rather this is more of an improvement from the previous 42mm version, and a lot of the problems with that was addressed especially on the size! I think Longines is heading in the right direction and this year they are coming out with really nice watches! I bought the same black one and I really like how it catches the light on the dials. so far so good!

This or the new hydro conquest gmt?
The hydro is a lot cheaper and probably not that well finished. Still, it's amazing and because I don't have the budged for the Zulu, I will take a Hydro. Also its more sportier.
@@N7Sound same here.
@@thewatchidiot , looking forward to a video reciew of the new conquest against your zulu.
Was Another top notch video, till the next.
Very nice watch, may get one once ive sold my Tudor GMT.
My 39mm zulu time also has the date just slightly skewed to the left. Doesn’t really bother me though. Love the watch.
No
@@cousineddie3302you obviously don't know longines is running circles around Tudor. Longines is #8 worldwide with 5.6% market share... Tudor isn't even near the top 10 with less than 2% market share 😅

Does it bother you that the crystal has AR on the front and back? Why use sapphire when the AR itself is easy to scratch?
So when i pick this watch up 2 weeks later, it would be such a pain having to change the date 14 days ahead 😅
I might get the spirit 37 or 40 instead although in terms of looks, this is a definite winner ❤
Thanks for the review
You should have waited for the new Hydroconquest GMT with the new clasp.
@@thewatchidiotThe larger Zulu Time GMT is very similar to the Tag Heuer Autavia GMT
Tudor is overrated and overpriced. It’s a poor man’s Rolex 😂😂😂😂😂
Letting it go for cheap...if anyone interested let me know i can provide my fb listing for it.
which colorway is the better as a GADA watch?
Nice watch, but between the dial and the bezel, there are way too many numbers, making it confusing to read at a glance, especially when both dial and bezel are black. With a 24-hour bezel, the dial would have been better off with round plots (like the Rolex GMT Master). .
Now it's time to review the new Longines Hydroconquest GMT released recently and compare it to Zulu GMT.
I have a Seiko Samurai Padi, it too has blue lume that looks green in daylight
Clasp is a killer. Same as Grand Seiko, who on earth would they not include a smart micro on the fly adjacent! Nuts. The 5mm quick link on my Rolex Date just is perfect. I don’t need anything complex and I would imagine so easy for them to buy it in if needed.
Had the 42mm in blue and it was a great watch. Just hated the male endlinks. The 39mm is tempting but I’ll wait to see a few more reviews.
Btw I got the new HydroConquest GMT and here's the video😁

How do you time things with a 24/48 click 24h bezel?
I have the same date being not aligned issue in my Zulu 42 green.
You can put a non Longines bracelet on the GMT? The quick release mechanism doesn’t look like it works for standard bracelets, whatever the size.
4:20. Could that be a design feature to help aid date viability on wrist?
Loooool wait so you're telling me "long jeans" isn't right?😅
Dare I say that looks like the perfect sports watch excepting the date window misalignment and maybe clasp.
21 is a bit annoying for sure, but a 22mm leather strap should fit.
Thanks for the review :)
Love your review. The thickness is a deal breaker for me. Love the overall design tho
God bless!
As crazy as it sounds, the only thing holding me back from buying this is the commonly off-center date wheel. Shame they didn’t tighten that up.
The leather strap solves this problem.
no see through caseback? why is that still a thing at that price point, I just don’t understand.
The two-tone version has caught my eyes after announcement, but so far it hasn't hit the stores here.
The two tone is pretty cool! They did a great job with all the colors👍
I stopped the video to comment that the off center date would drive me absolutely nuts. I think I’d have to take it back.
I tried this on and two things killed it for me , it looks tiny on my 7 1/2 inch wrist and the stuttering movement of the second hand reminded me of a $200 NH35 . Beautiful watch though
Very cohesive package. Good looking watch.
Only thing that makes me hesitant to buy one is the lume. Wish it was white, not greenish. Besides that , everything else looks spot on.
I went to a dealer to check the watch out and the date is slightly to the left also.
New headline for ya: “bombshell drop destroys a game changer? “
Spirit 37 has the date skewed to the left on just about every example I've seen. It's most noticable on 10-19. Others are mostly fine! Makes me think their printer is off.
Is certainly a stunning watch - Definitely worth considering - looks and value unbeatable
if this watch had the on the fly clasp, it would be a slam dunk.
Should have waited for the Longines Hydroconquest GMT
The hydroconquest GMT looks like it'll be an amazing watch for sure! That said the Zulu time for me is especially good bc its such a great change of pace from my many divers😀
What is the reason for the stars reminds me of the cheap Orient tri star.
Still no stocks here. Waiting patiently.
I have the BB58 and a Hamilton Khaki King(40mm) which looks like the Longines with the Arabic numerals. I just don’t see the comparison between a dive(Submariner) style watch and a field watch. Both are great but not comparable to each other.
I have two Longines that I bought for a little over $2,000 each and I think they are nicer than my $6,300 Omega.
I’m buying one. Just gotta find someone in Stockholm who has one in stock so I can try it on first.
Please don't urge Longines to increase the price by $400-500 for a simple quick adjust clasp that should be mandatory in this price range...
I have Tudor and IMO Spirit Zulu is better or let me say, nicer.
"This Longines NEARLY Destroyed Tudor:" Take it easy.
Yo, losing faith in the shield? Those Spirits are nice looking, but the 5 stars on the dial are just too much.
39mm watch and 21mm strap? That does not fit and makes the strap look way too big. That is why the Explorer as a 36mm watch now has a 19mm strap, the balance is perfect.
And why do they put these stars on the dial?? Looks overloaded and would be much better without...
The super irritating thing is the leather strap has a quick adjust clasp.
if it says chronometer on the dial ....does it really need to specify the number of stars it think it deserve? its really destroying the aesthetic
Great video …
Given how often the word 'destroyed' is used in the RUclips video titles pertaining to watches, you'd think there was some kind of war going on...
Still seems pretty perfect to me. :D
And you dont need to squeeze in the name 'Rolex' when someone asks about your watch 😊
