This was filmed at the Wang Center in Boston. I was there with my Sister. What an amazing night. I can't tell you how many takes they did of this song, but it was a lot. We all got Flashlights to light up at a certain time. After the got all the shots they wanted, they did a mini concert for all the fans in the audience. What a great night... amazing performance. I'll never for get it.
Someone, please, re-master/HD this version because this is THE best ever, its a piece of history that needs to be preserved. gives me goosebumps every time.
The audio recording of it is on The Last Action Hero soundtrack and its on all of the digital streaming services. Wish the band would remaster the video recording and release it as well though
Long time to reply to this but wanted to thank you for mentioning this. Found the soundtrack on Spotify but this song and a couple others are (currently) unavailable. Hopefully that'll change some time! I used to have the audio file (completely legally, I'm sure) on my old PC but now lost to time, but I have this at least!
@sezwah1414people have opinions and yours is terrible, orchestras can include rock instruments but just add to the beauty and metallica is great but you actually have to have an open mind when listening to music
My 11 year old daughter just came into the room, and said "oh i love this song" and proceeded to sing along with it, word for word!! I'm bringing her up right haha
No auto-tune. Steven uses his real voice. They all know how to play instruments. 1000% pure talent! Unlike today's music. No wonder this generation is so pissed.
True that and don't nobody tell me the good stuff is out there you just have to search for it. You shouldn't have to search for it, we should stop handing out participation trophies and record contracts just so we don't hurt someone's feelings because they suck.
These are tunnel visions opinion in music. You’re not gonna like all music that’s made, that’s fine. But if you’re not searching for music in such a saturated industry, you’re being ignorant

When the era of combining rock music with orchestras, Steven did it right the first time and used the legendary Michael Kamen, who also worked with Metallica!

@@s.marcarter52 Citing his parents for talent would be relevant to my comment but whats the focus on cash? If you are wealthy you cant be talented? Far as I know loads of rich people with no talent at all so he got something you cant buy...
When the M stood for music. I remember watching this and being blown away by it, it was really unique at the time. Bands weren't really doing things like adding an orchestra. They really set the bar for making a big performance out of a song. Awesome!
This whole performance was chilling. I am a huge fan of rock with an orchestra and this blended flawlessly. I also remember the chills at seeing the lighters...
My God, what a performance!! They take the audience from sedate at the start to pulsing with light at the end. If this video doesn't make your pulse race, seek medical help!!
"Hello, my amazing supporter! Your warmth and positivity always brighten my day. Thank you for your unwavering love and encouragement. I'm so grateful to have you here! Where in the world are you tuning in from?"
Man, all this time we've been missing out on the good old stuff, haven't we? It's like a frickin pipe dream for rock and orchestra to combine together and for it to sound this existentially awesome. And with a song as already incredible as this, sheeesh.
My absolute favorite performance ever!! I can watch this over and over and over and over....well you get the point. Aerosmith is the best and that's one of my favorite songs especially with the orchestra. And that audience with the lighters, man, this just shows why I wanna be a rock musician so bad!
Salud.
A bunch of screaming demons is not music. However, the orchestra was music. The only good thing about it was the orchestra. If you want to hear an amazing version of this song listen to an acapella group called Voice Play. This group sings from the heart & every word they sing is clear. You can understand every word they sing.
I like to come back and look at this every so often. I always wonder how someone, at least one, of those playing in the orchestra, didn't jump to their feet and start dancing! Sometimes you get it all together, the song, the band, the singer, and then you ad and orchestra on a good night and you get something rare, a truly fine, truly great, truly unique performance.
OMG this band has been in my life since my high school days, now on my early 60s I'm still in love with them as much as ever!,❤❤❤ they are forever!! This is the best rendition of this song ever, !!! GO boys! Live on for so many of us!
O-M-G!! That was friggin' amazing!! Chills kind of good...can always count on Steven Tyler when I need something to cheer me up. Bow to the Rocks Gods.....
I was at this show. We had to show up at some place in Chelmsford, MA with a bunch of cans of food for a food pantry. My friend, Laurie and I got there wicked early and were one of the only people to get tickets. Watching this performance is one of the most chilling and wonderful things I have ever seen. Steven Tyler had to come down on the wire with the piano twice, but other then that they didn't need to do any retakes at all. It was amazing! I am so thankful to be able to relive this again!
Everyone should, just once in their life, have a moment this monumental and perfect. Easily the best live performance I have ever seen. The band, the song, the orchestra - no wonder MTV stopped showing music - they were never going to top this!
Ever since I've discovered this song (~ a month ago), I've made this my personal anthem. I've watched a lot of versions of this song, and there's always a comment on those vids that that performance is the greatest. I'd agree with them that those are great performances, a testament to the band's exceptional performance and Steven Tyler's immortal renditions of this song. For me, though, this is the greatest version of this song, just for the sheer undiluted, pure energy of the vocals of Steven Tyler. And yep, the orchestra adds more gravitas to the music.
I watched this live. And my thoughts have never changed. This is the greatest live performance of any song in the history of rock and roll. And to be brutally honest. It’s not even close. Jesus Christ.
Hands down favorite band and hands down favorite song of theirs! Specifically this version, the orchestra "behind them" and that absolutely amazing scream! Perfect!
Steven at 3:49-3:59 went beyond a level I feel like human beings should be capable of. Like, his voice is impressive in general, but that literally sounded otherworldly to me.
Quite possibly the greatest live rendition of any song in human history!!! First heard this as a teen in the early 80s. I've always loved this song and the message it holds. This version brings an emotional level that sometimes is hard to handle. Dream on my fellow humans. Peace and blessings to you and yours! JJ -South Alabama

I can't believe this song is song is 30 years older than me! I love this song with all my ❤️
Just read on another version that he wrote it when he was 16, confirmed by several comments. Whatever... Masterpiece! Steven Tyler forever rocks!
No one would believe that this type of composition would exist in 1966 at that time of 1966
This is honestly the greatest performance of a song in the history of man. God bless Aerosmith.
