    I have the exact same setup after testing many tire manufacturers and combinations...tubliss X40 rear and tubliss X30 front. There are some better tires for specific conditions but I know I can have these tires on my bike and ride anywhere without any issues. I ride a TX300 and tend to ride low in the rpm range and the rear lasts forever. I change the rear once the center blocks-in-a-block are almost gone. Good review and I like your channel. Thanks for the effort.

    I live in Minnesota, and ride MN/WI single track trails. I run AT 81's... I love them. I ran one 35hrs and had great luck. I don't ride many rocky areas, but in our terrain its a great tire

    The battlecross x40 wore like iron! I put over 1000 miles on one. Now I'm running the shinko cheater 505, it is a goey soft tire but man they hook up. I'm 600 miles in and its still hooking up.I really enjoy your Awesome vids kyle!

    Imo the 3 best tires are Pirelli mt 16- things are glued to the ground. IRC mb5- may have the tallest knobs. IRC volcanduro ve33- thing is a beast.

    yup, I was a Dunlop guy for years, then its all side knobs breaking off after only 4 or 5 hours, tried a bunch to replace, and settled on the x30 rears here in the east and 40's when I head west, liking the M59 still for the front in most conditions, will run a Shinko cheater when running slick rock and I;m pretty happy with their performance in the rock and otherwise and they don't even wear that bad, also running tubliss for 4 or 5 years now, replace the inner bladder regularly and they hold up real well, have plugged them on the trail with pretty good success.

    I just changed my AT81 after 50 hrs. It still looked pretty good and no tearing. This is riding in the western united states of Colorado, Utah and Idaho. This thing is pretty good. I don't know who can afford a tire every 15 or 20 hrs. That would be every two weeks. This tire is on Husqvarna TX 300 with tubliss.

  • @rz350yam
    @rz350yam 7 лет назад +1

    Kenda Trackmaster 2 on the front, $47, ultra-heavy duty Kenda tube, 16 psi. Kenda Equilibrium on rear, with Tubliss at 9-10 psi. Colorado and Utah rider, technical stuff in the mountains and rocky desert stuff in the lower elevations. Husaberg TE 300, KTM 250 XCW. Ride usually 2-3 times per month, 50-70 miles each ride, change tires on both ends about twice per year. The Trackmaster II is the only front tire I have found that the side knobs will not peel off after 4-5 rides. Equilibrium works well in all terrain, previously ran trials tires, but I think the Equilibrium is a good compromise between the knobby and a trials. Only knobby I'll run is the Shinko 505 Super Sticky. All others are too hard for gnarly technical riding where you need maximum traction.

    My favorite setup for my desert racing is the shinko 214 fat tire 90/100 21 and the maxxis desert it 120/100 18 on the rear. They work really well together. Usually I like running the same tire like you said with the exception of these two. I just picked up a shinko 505 rear and I'm going to try it out. I ride a 2019 yz450fx and the shinko front and maxxis rear works amazing on that bike.

  • @nunya7012
    @nunya7012 7 лет назад

    I agree with what was said. To add to it, the bridgestones are much more puncture resistant, especially at low psi, than the dunlops. and if you are running Tubliss they won't bleed off air from the low pressure chamber at all.

    I got about 29 hours on my stock 17 300XC AT81 rear tire, it wasn't bald by any means but not good enough to start a harescramble with, so I opted to change it out for a new AT81, the East Coast does have a fair bit more dirt, than rock.

  • @mtnseekerone
    @mtnseekerone 7 лет назад

    I ran into the same problem were I was tearing knobs off to the white threaded core on Dunlops. Went to the x-30 and have been very happy here in the sand and rock country of Southern Utah. Made the switch about two years ago and have not looked back. Besides it seems the Bridgestone tires are cheaper by about 10-20 bucks.

    im all for new tech like tubliss tubeless systems for tyres , but tyres are designed to run with a measurable amount of air , so if you run them with a tubliss system at 0 psi, you would be wearing the edges of the tyre alot more, essentially cutting the middle portion out of the tyre all together over an extended period of time

  • @arizonarider9120
    @arizonarider9120 7 лет назад

    Well stated. Like you, I have always liked the Maxxis Desert IT from your earlier reviews. The AT-81 is just not that good in the Arizona desert. You really need to try my recent purchase, the Shinko 505 "Cheater" rear tire and the slightly oversized Shinko 546 soft intermediate front tire.
    Incredibly grippy but wear almost as long the Maxxis Desert. They are so soft you can twist the knobs but they just don't wear much. Fascinating tire.

    I ran the AT-81 for about 45 hours on my Husqvarna TE 300. In my opinion it held up well for about 30 or 35 hours, the last ten or so were pretty bad, though still useable. In western Montana by the way.

    AT81 was a horrible tire here in New England. The best do it all tire here seems to be a Kenda Trakmaster. From Southwick Sand to nasty roots and rocks it hooks up.

  • @velotek1

    These two tires were designed for different things. They have different rubber compounds, different casing, different knob height etc. Not to mention you're comparing them on different bikes. Maybe a more appropriate comparison would be a MX52 vs Battlecross X30 or even X40.

    Kyle check out some Goldentyre GT216. For the western USA desert and rocky riding, the GT216AA Fatty front and GT216HBN rear are amazing tires, and they last / hold up alot longer than any other tire I have tried. 20+ hours on them and they look better than the AT81's after 5 hours on them.

  • @WesleyRomeo

    Many ride with tires too hard. Then those with tubliss run it too soft. Tire pressure should vary depending on weight of bike and person and the terrain they plan to ride. Most tires would get u through most places. May wear and tear be the deciding factor.

      One of my favorite tire memories is that tire. I pulled up in the Diamond Mill OHV area and I had a brand new Maxxius IT tire and this was the first ride on it. It was on my 1984 KTM 495 I used to have and this was back in 2009 or 2010. A guy in the lot sees my tire and he starts bragging up how great that tire is. Hes like that tire lasts a long time, knobbies stay sharp and doesnt round off like other tires. So I go out and hit the single track and hard stuff for 4 hours and back to gas up and that guy is there and he is like holy crap! cause the knobbies were rounded all the way off lol. I wonder if I have him on video or not.

    Dunlops act the same even on the east coast.... when I used to race GNCC/Harescrambles more frequently I tried two or three different models of them. They all were awesome for the first two races then they were junk after that. I never ran a Dunlop back tire longer than probably 6hrs. This may have changed but when I was messing with them 4 or 5 years ago the sidewalls were terribly stiff as well, even without tubliss I found myself running only about 7psi in the back tire to make it get proper traction.... on my current bike I've been very happy with Bridgestone tires, I just put a set of maxxis tires on for the first time about two rides ago and so far so good with them.

  • @93Viggen23

    Bridgestone for the budget guy!! Dunlop is great for like 1-2 rides on the terrain it was made for, the Bridgestone I can run the x40 rear and x30 front for almost 15 hours on my track bike and it works well everywhere except mud and deep sand.
    Dunlops last me about 6 hours for the rear and they only work well on one terrain (in my experience).

    tubliss is the way to go , for at least the rear. doubles the effectiveness of the cheapest tires and you can run them far longer. AT 81'S dont work very well for my group in south Ohio or Kentucky riding. totally agree with the 10 hrs then they go off. knobs seem really hard to wear at that point, but flat out won't hook up in the woods. very expensive tire for what you get. Michelin, pirelli, kenda , golden tyre, irc gekkota . the last two for all extreme enduro woods work. wear be damned.

    Most guys I know run either the at81, pirelli scorpion xtra or Golden Tyre all with bibs. The battlecross is terrible in our conditions. D37/D38 desert racing to Sprint Enduro.

    Quick question. I noticed the triple clamps on your 17 250 are machined and black. I'm purchasing an 18 300 XC-W as soon as my dealer will let me. But they don't have the cool triples.

      The W models don't have those. You only get them on like a Six Days version of the W models.

    I love the battlecross x30 this spring. Got my dream bike so pulled the trigger on tubliss. Absolutely love it, 4.5psi for me seems to be the happy place.
    Does tubliss pay dividends on low pressure in the front? What pressure are you generally running in the front?

      I am assuming you are in Indiana, what terrain are you riding? I am debating on the X20 because I ride a lot of loose trails/woods.

      Same question. I ride rocky and also dry and wet clay. Some gravel too.

    Kyle, any chance you could do a pipe comparison on the new 300?

    Hey Kyle, My buddies and I will be in Utah this weekend for Supercross and are going riding on Friday. Where would you recommend we go? Preferably within an hour or so of Salt Lake

    i tried both x 30 and x 40 and both are good x40 has a real longer lifetime when you adding some street in your rides just don t pinn it on the road it eats up any tyre

      I have 2 Honda's right now. CRF50F, and CRF110F. On top of that, I have a Honda lawnmower and a Honda Minivan. All of them are great machines :)
