100% agree with you I am 42 years old and just bought a 1990 EF hatch owned my first one in 1998 a lot of people my age right now are buying them I bought the cleanest stock one I could find and they are hard to get ahold of. Interior is a 10 out of 10 it's a 5-speed with black interior going to relive the old days midlife crisis Style

I'm 21 years old and I'm highly considering getting an ef hatch. The ones in my area are a little beat up but salvageable. The base models are around 3k but the si models are closer to 7k. What would you recommend I buy and what's the maximum you'd pay for each one? I'm leaning towards a base model and swapping si parts, and maybe engine.

Out of all of the Civic based chassis I feel like the EF hatchback is the best commuter car. The original seats are superior to the other DX models, outside driver side vent and rear quater pop out windows, and dash "pockets" for things like a wallet are great. But as a project car EF and Crx are probably the worst, DPFI to MPFI, Bseries alternator clearance issues, acess to the fuel pump requires the fuel tank to be dropped and other annoyances not found on the EG, EK and Integra. Still an awesome platform and the cars look great but I was a bit disapointed to find out that my EF is not as easy to mod when compared to my EG.

The Ed chassis is very old now very hard to find parts for I've been buying parts at a premium lots of money for clean parts

You are very right it is the worst project car here what i have experienced within the past 12 years
1.multiple junkyards finds to complete a section
2.the efs even back in 2012 with the rare parts or jdm parts people have been wanting stuff $500+ no matter what
3.jdm front end makes a difference that people have always wanted $3000
+for the front end. Vs a eg or ek america got the same look..
4.and the last just getting it to run into obd1 is alot of problems meaning going from dpfi to mpfi is a pain in the a**..80% of people give up and sell these cars because they are indeed Hard to get running compared to a eg or ek

@@glenjonesiii576 same ..crx stuff is the craziest.put lets say rear cargo cover atleast $200 on a good deal
Rear speaker pods are crazy 200-500
Oem basic radio 1000 series $100
      The list goes on
For jdm stuff is crazy money
But thank goodness for the jdm 25+ imports making it easier and i wanna say cheaper to part out those cars

I got a 89 CRX with the D16A9 Motor. DOHC 124hp. Too bad the engine wasn't available in the USA. The car weighs 920k and is incredible to drive. The chassis and engine are really good. I didn't expect a small 1.6 liter engine to have so much torque down low. I have driven NA and NB Miata's for 9 years and the Honda engine is without a doubt superior to the 1.6 engine from the NA Miata. I also find it better than the 1.9 from the NB. The Honda engine feels livelier and loves to rev.

    • @maxbriscoegarage
      @maxbriscoegarage  11 месяцев назад

Never a bad idea to go and take a look, but always double check everything and make sure its all done right and runs properly. As i've gotten older I've learned most Hondas should pretty much fire right up and run just fine. If it doesnt, something is definitely wrong and it could be a lot of work incoming.
I will say though, 4k is not the same 4k when I bought mine back in 2021. Hard to get a running and driving car with no issues for 4k in this modern economy. Hopefully everything works out
      Best of luck! :)

They're just a little more modern. Mid to late 90s tech is definitely better than the 80s stuff. Both are fine but you can tell the EF is definitely older and more raw when you drive it.

I have owned 3. I flip cars so I sold them after fixing them up. I finally bought a 4th, just last week for $2000 (which is a total steal) Im definately keeping this one. Its a 91 EF Civic with a B18b1 already swapped in and running. I just had to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump, and upgrade the shifter bushings and Voila....its extremely fast and handles amazing because it also sits on coil overs and very wide wheels.
Buy one, fix it up...and never sell it...they are getting very rare...especially here in Dallas Tx. You cant find one for under 4K...and even then, most of the time they are not running and are very beat up.
