Nice vid. I appreciate the effort to record this as it basically doubles the amount of time it takes to do this. How was VIR? Are your calipers still blue? Have you looked in to brake cooling solutions?
dragngt thanks for the comment! I’m leaving for VIR tomorrow morning so stay tuned for the video. I have looked into brake cooling and might install it next year. I’m also tempted to go with a bigger brake setup for the front. I’m just not impressed with these to be honest with you.
Tom Lawrowski I’ve yet to see a real set of unbiased testing that shows that a ‘bigger’ brake set up is going to have a significant improvement over the stock system. The bigger brakes aren’t that much larger, if at all in some cases. But there are better brake pads for both daily and track use that you can see improvement from. SRF brake fluid and cooling are really the route I would try first. If you are still unhappy then you can add a BBK and improve it further. I have a brake cooling thread on Bimmerpost.
Great video tutorial. I also watched your other 2 track day vids. I've been trying to find suitable track pads for my m4. Are the Ferodo ds2500 pads any good? Are they noisy? Any fade at all after your track session? How do they cope with wear? Do they wear out discs fast? What brake fluid are you using? Sorry for asking so much questions lol
Happy you’re asking questions! And thanks for watching. The pads are great. I used to get a few track days out of them. You can go up a level but then daily driving suffers. These are good for both. They squeak sometimes. Nothing too terrible. I’ve never experienced fade with them. Any performance pad will wear out the disc faster but these rotors are massive so I’m not worried. Regarding the fluid I’m using Motul RBF600 amzn.to/2FnI9NG
Cheers buddy for your input. I used to use ds2500 years ago on my scooby setup and wanted to check who is using on f80/f82, so I Searched on forums and found one guy said they wrecked discs and said it's for lighter cars. Now that you're actually fine with them I guess I'll go for them too. Was also looking at pfc 08/11 pads as an alternative. Do you remember if the Motul 600 have a different colour to stock fluid? Helps if they do to know when to stop bleeding haha
DoubleTap DMR Anytime. I’m glad I could be of help. Regarding the color of the fluid I am not quite sure. I was the one pressing the brake and my friend was the one doing the bleeding by the caliper. I do believe that they are slightly different color so you will definitely notice a difference. Safe bet is to get two bottles.

@@TommyLGarage Great to hear, I plan on doing as much of the maintenance on my M3 to save on that M tax! going to change my pads soon! thanks for getting back to me!
9 and 3 yes you can but you will need a file or a Dremel tool to make the opening bigger. I tried putting the sensor back in but it was too big for the opening so that’s why you have to grind it a bit.
Hi can u link where to buy the pads. My car came with performance brake kit but i dont know where to purchase pads or what the correct sizes are. Thanks
@Tommy L Garage Also, I just changed my brake pads today for brand new pads and now thy're making some scraping noise, is that because of not bedding? I’ve never change brake pads before, I fear that I might damage my rotors. Did you have that problem with your F80 M3?
Daniel Shulman I was thinking about it, but decided against it. I kind of like the way it sounds now. Maybe I’ll change my mind sometime in the future.
Stanislaus Family Channel I get my brakes from topbrakes.com. Ferodo ds2500 are fantastic for track and street. I also have a dedicated set of Ferodo track pads - one step above the 2500. What type of pads are you looking for ?
The Oem Textars are GF rated while the aftermarket ferodo's are only FF rated? Why swap pads if the hot temp friction coefficient rating is the same "F" standard? Seems like you are sacrificing cold brake performance for no gain???
I have this calipers from stock and now I have a problem. I just bought some 17" wheels for winter season but does not fit because of the caliper. Anyone with the same issue? Can you fit on your car 17" rims?
Catalin Savu Does it not fit even if you space out the wheel? What if you got some spacers would that work? Although I know with the M3 the minimum size is 18 inches
Great video Tommy. What size spacers are you using? I've heard 12mm front and 15mm rear is best...machtschnell.com/catalog/product-model/m/f8x-m3-m4/?limit=20
Somehow the classical music fit your snow plowing video perfectly. Thanks for the info on the carbon fiber parts. I talked to him last week and got prices. Much cheaper than ordering factory M parts!
Tommy L Garage i am changing my pads too next few weeks to ebc red stuff for the front. Mine is f32 435i. I just want to know it is hard to take out the sensor? I toon pads out 3 times before to lube. But failed to pop out the sensor. I didn’t have to back then but i do now since it is going to new pads. I ‘d love to re use it on my new pads.
Tommy L Garage i also apply lube on top and bottom edges of the pads according to bmw repair manual. Plus, use a brake pad separator (maybe not call this name) to expend the piston, much easier.

@@TommyLGarage Great to hear, I plan on doing as much of the maintenance on my M3 to save on that M tax! going to change my pads soon! thanks for getting back to me!
can you still attach the wear sensor to DS2500? I don't wanna zip tie it since I will be using DS2500 as daily driving pads
9 and 3 yes you can but you will need a file or a Dremel tool to make the opening bigger. I tried putting the sensor back in but it was too big for the opening so that’s why you have to grind it a bit.
Another GREAT Video Tommy, one question, do these High Performance Pads dust like the OEM ones?
Thank You
Wally Hamdan Thank you. They dust the same. I have since upgraded to either more aggressive track pads and those dust quite a lot.
Tommy L Garage - Thank You for the reply - go you Knowledge, are there any standard break pads out there that are dust free/reduced?
Hey Tom, may I know where did you get your jack? that's a low profile jack?
夏XYD this is a Harbour Freight low profile jack made by Pittsburg. Are you in the US?
thanks, yeah, I live in Michigan
Hi can u link where to buy the pads. My car came with performance brake kit but i dont know where to purchase pads or what the correct sizes are. Thanks
Topbrakes.com
What if I want to still use the sensor for my new brake pads, does the computer recognize new pads and reset the "service until 000 miles?
You can do it and no it won’t be reset but as long as you don’t break the sensor you’re going to be fine for a long long time
@Tommy L Garage Also, I just changed my brake pads today for brand new pads and now thy're making some scraping noise, is that because of not bedding? I’ve never change brake pads before, I fear that I might damage my rotors. Did you have that problem with your F80 M3?
Next you should disable the active sound that's coming from the speakers and see how much of a difference that makes.
Daniel Shulman I was thinking about it, but decided against it. I kind of like the way it sounds now. Maybe I’ll change my mind sometime in the future.
How expensive are brake kits?
Pads or rotors or calipers ?
@@TommyLGarage rotors and pads
Hi Tommy, nice Vlogs! Tell me - how thick are your wheel spacers? Thanks and best greetings from Germany!
Thank you for watching! The spacers are 12 mm all around. The rear could be a bit more but I’m fine with it for now.
Do you recommend this pdas Ferodo ? Thank you an advance.
Yes. Love them !
Hey man, where did you get your break pads from? Any recommendations based on your experience? Thanks!
Stanislaus Family Channel I get my brakes from topbrakes.com.
Ferodo ds2500 are fantastic for track and street. I also have a dedicated set of Ferodo track pads - one step above the 2500. What type of pads are you looking for ?
Tommy L Garage I track my car once a year. Which would you recommend? Do I need to change my fluid as well?
Ferodo 2500 will do.
And yes you should flush your fluid before every track event. I made a video about it - check it out!
Tommy L Garage would you recommend the Ferodo Ds2500 over the oem break pads for street use? I don’t track my car just need to replace front pads
The Oem Textars are GF rated while the aftermarket ferodo's are only FF rated? Why swap pads if the hot temp friction coefficient rating is the same "F" standard? Seems like you are sacrificing cold brake performance for no gain???
RicePattySamwich Meh at the track you never have cold brakes.
What track tire/wheel set up you are using at the track?
This season r888r on apex
did you do a CDV delete?
I did not
I have 17 inch rims on my 2009 bmw 328xi and I wanna put the blue break caliper covers on will the fit? Or do I need to have at least 18in rims?
You might need 18s
love the channel keep it up
Thank you Jordan! I’m glad you enjoy it. Hope you keep coming back
10:30 Wow is that normal on the wheel hub ?
ivan021093 yes pretty much so. All cars have that issue.
I live in the south and still see a touch of rust there.
dragngt true. I’ve never seen a car with hubs that were non rusty.
@@TommyLGarage It doesn't, the brakes are m4 brakes from stock. The only thing I can do is to sell the 17" wheels. Bad luck for me.
Nice video. Nice car. Nice Skills!
1_Ming Well thank you very much. I’m all about doing it myself.
what is the torque set on the wheel lug?
I use 110
@@TommyLGarage alright . Thanks
But the stock wheels look so gooood
Jeppe Werring I’ll put them back on in the spring no worries
perfect
Where did you buy the brake pads?
Abner Ortiz topbrakes or Amazon
Can you hace 2 piston calipers?
Filip Crisan define hace
Your car is so sweet by the way
Thanks !!
Make sure you're in the right hole. Something my missis says, sometimes. lol (minute 13.35)
Ooooooooiiii!
What size of spacers do u have on
12mm all around
Hey tommy great instructional video. Can you tell me what size punch you are using to push the pins out?
itsbeenfunmike no problem. Honestly I am not sure. I linked some in this video - maybe that helps. You can also use a wood nail
don't need to bleed the system?
cod4Anubis not at all. You can do pads or rotors without bleeding the fluid.
What springs are you running ?
RanchyRansel macht Schnell
2017 M3 clips are different than these. Won’t just come out after pins are removed.
Not only do F80 F82 F83 have brake sensor but ever bmw does. Good video tho!
yousaf qamar good thought. This is my first bmw which is why I was surprised.
Great video Tommy. What size spacers are you using? I've heard 12mm front and 15mm rear is best...machtschnell.com/catalog/product-model/m/f8x-m3-m4/?limit=20
Thanks! I run 12mm spacers all around. Also MS
Very informative. :)
Wen Shen thanks for watching!
Thanx
rhd-jon zeugirdoR Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
No jackstand. sticks head in wheelwell anyway😔
true - nice catch. I have since improved my ways!
The M- Performance brakes are way easier to change... the base model brake = headache lol
Agreed!
That M-skifter looks really bad. You should consider changing to the normal M3 version in leather.
Daniel Fl. I’ll keep the knob but the boot will have to go. It does look bad I agree
I was thinking about the comfort. The OG M3 knob feels very nice. But as long as you're happy with it, then thats the most important.
Informative videos but the music has to go.
Good job with the channel. Thanks for posting. Can’t wait to get my M3 this spring.
charlandk haha oh no! I liked the music. Fine fine I will tone it down. What about the classical music in my latest snow plowing post ?
Somehow the classical music fit your snow plowing video perfectly. Thanks for the info on the carbon fiber parts. I talked to him last week and got prices. Much cheaper than ordering factory M parts!
charlandk glad you like it! And thanks for the complements haha.
The quality of the parts is great. I could not be happier. Let me know if I can help
Anyone else think the car fell at 8:41? I jumped out of my seat lol.
I’m glad my videos are so exciting haha! And yea that’s why I left the clip there. Thanks for watching!!!
Tap it from the back
tintman831 some people prefer it that way... :)
actually bedding is needed for track pads not for oem or street pads
Good point
Tommy L Garage i am changing my pads too next few weeks to ebc red stuff for the front. Mine is f32 435i. I just want to know it is hard to take out the sensor? I toon pads out 3 times before to lube. But failed to pop out the sensor. I didn’t have to back then but i do now since it is going to new pads. I ‘d love to re use it on my new pads.
It’s super easy. Grab a set of pliers and just pull them up. They sit on a little spring but they’ll pop off. Just don’t squeeze them too hard.
Tommy L Garage i also apply lube on top and bottom edges of the pads according to bmw repair manual. Plus, use a brake pad separator (maybe not call this name) to expend the piston, much easier.
Good points Steve. I skipped the top and bottom lube and get some squeal here and there so maybe I may have to do what you did. Thanks for the tip.
Why's your car so dirty? And why are you working on the driveway right NEXT to your garage? And where's your comfy blanket?
I'm sweating that gun, need to get one.
Scott Ring You can always use mine if you want to. But it’s always good to have it in your arsenal. I put a link in my description if you’re looking for one. It’s a worthy investment.
U need to open the brake reservoir when u push pistons
I did
I literally look at all your video and have been doing all the maintenance with ease. But Can you edit less and everything you use in your vlog.
Exotic Evolution when you say edit less you mean to add more detail ?
@ Tommy L Garage
Yes, just a tiny bit more little details on your how to do videos with your camera angle, for more close up on particular part with lighting, but even with your current video I feel as though, its real easy to follow, but would like to see more video time watching you actual transitioning your process to the next step.
But don’t misunderstand, you have good editing, but the how to do parts - really dummying down for people like me is really helpful. Haha
You have great content and will continue to follow
Exotic Evolution understood. Ever since that video I’ve upgraded my camera equipment so things will get better. Thanks for the feedback!
105lbs, wow...
Dude you can barely handle the bedding, how can you do the racing then? 😂
I am a flag person ...
i love this channel
Thanks!
Woah! Watch out with that beak
Y do ppl make brakes so difficult they r simple Brembo brakes. Doesn’t get easier.
