Tim was filming the flower headbands and the cast member told him Auntie Kau’i made them. It’s note worthy because Auntie Kau’i is a native of Hawaii who has worked at the Polynesian since opening day in 1971!

The "hill" with the seats is called sunset pointe and it's not what it used to be, they tore it up quite a bit when they built the bungalows. This however was the spot where fairytale weddings were held, like mine back in 2002. We still visit it when we are there but it's definitely sad to think what it was

My husband and I stayed here for a belated honeymoon in Nov. 1988. It was a dream come true for me to finally go to WDW. Amazingly beautiful resort. I miss the fountain that used to be in the middle of the lobby. We stayed here for $175 a night back then, I think its about $450 now, ouch!!! Thanks for such a great video.

Hi Tim! I was so excited to see this video! The Polynesian is my favorite hotel on property and I just stayed there in October of 2017 (Courtesy of my best friend who is a DVC member), and it was such a nice thing to cross off of my Disney Wish List! Every time I’m in Disney I like to hotel hop, and I’ve wanted to stay here for such a long time. I’m so used to staying at the All Stars and Pop Century - which I love - but I can see the appeal to the deluxe resorts! The monorail is SO nice and convenient to have RIGHT THERE when you want to head into MK or take it and transfer to Epcot. We were in the Moorea building and it was a little bit of a walk to the main entrance (Like 5-6 minutes), but walking through the resort property I felt like I was really in Hawaii or somewhere really exotic. We had breakfast at Kona Café and LOVED it. It’s highly recommended! For as many times as I’ve been there as a tourist for the afternoon and now a guest of the hotel, I (we) didn’t make it down to the beach. For anyone who wants to plan a “rest” day and not go into the parks, definitely take advantage of the pools and laying out on the beach! I also loved having the option to have Dole Whip any time we wanted, and I honestly lost count at how many we had. We had such a wonderful experience and I hope I can stay there again some day! Thanks for the tour!

Poly is one of our favourite resorts - we've been lucky to stay there a few times. If you get the Lapu, Lapu, don't forget your spork to scrape out the awesome pineappley goodness that is left behind when the booze is gone. Tangaroa Terrace was a restaurant at one time.

The little guy that you see as the "shruggy" statue that shows up in all of the Polynesian-specific merchandise is supposed to be a tikki of Maui. Not, like, movie Maui but ACTUAL Maui.

My wife and I honeymooned here in 2006. There has been some changes to the resort since then. We loved it. Ohauna's was fantastic. I remember my shoulders getting sunburned from being in the pool on our first full day there. It hurt so bad. Our first dance as a married couple was at the Luau. Would love to stay there again, but just can't afford it now.

In 1974, John Lennon was on vacay there. He was delivered the the papers to dissolve the Beatles partnership. They stopped making music in 1970, but the still had legal stuff to deal with. Did you know Ringo, John and George had a different lawyer from Paul? When Paul married Linda, her brother was a lawyer and became Paul's lawyer. While the others used Allen Klein who Paul hated. Just a little info.

Great video. Last visit to Disneyworld (24 hours on a plane from New Zealand) we had a 'Hotel Day' where we visited as many hotels on the property as we could. Never made it to the Polynesian so your video was an excellent watch.
The interesting highlight of the day was having lunch at the Contemporary and the power went out. We watched all the guests in the Magic Kingdom stream out of the park. Luckily our lunch had already been cooked and delivered so we just ate and watched.
I did laugh (Sorry) at you trying to pronounce 'Aotearoa'. You were not too bad.
It is the Te Reo Maori word for New Zealand and means 'Land of the long white cloud'
It is pronounced ' Ow-tee-ah-ro-ah' as has already bee said. You can use it at the New Zealand stand at EPCOT Food and Wine. You will be a star!
Maori words are pronounced very differently from English.
Try these place names: Petone, Whakatane...
Petone: NOT Pee-tone or Pet- One but 'Pey-toe-nee'
Whakatane: NOT Wok-ah-tane but 'Fha-ka-tar-nee' Sounds rude, but it is not.

I was waiting to see if you'd mention it, because you mentioned the boat rentals . . . But you can rent a nice pontoon boat, including driver, to watch the MK fireworks, with the sound piped in. You have an airy, relaxed, roomy spot to watch the fireworks. No crowds, no sweaty, tired people up against you. No cranky children . . . A personalized tray of macaroons, and a cooler full of soft drinks, and snacks! (You can have adult beverages, but they don't supply them. We bought drinks at the outdoor bar closest to the marina,) The boat leaves about an hour before the fireworks, and your driver will take you on a tour of the lake, pointing out various landmarks, and abandoned attractions, as well as telling stories about the attractions (At least, ours did). . . It was very relaxing and enjoyable, with a fantastic view of the fireworks, as well as floats (literally, they were floating on the water) that I had never seen before - and you won't see from in front of the castle. The only downside is that you can't see the light show projected on the castle very well. . . A reasonable trade off, I think! The final perk, is that after the fireworks, they deliver you to the marina, and it's a very short walk from the marina to the pick up area for the trams. No trudging along with the huge crowd after the show. No waiting in line to get on either the monorail or the ferry. . . But . . . As you always say at the end, it's time to pay the price: the cost is (as of June 2018) $300. It seems steep, but the experience was well worth it! Also, the boat seats 8, but it was just my wife, two teenage sons, and me. Had we found (we didn't attempt to) another small family or a couple or two, we could have split the cost, still had fun, and reduced our cost. . . Long and short of it is, for me, this is the best, most comfortable way to see the fireworks.

I have a friend who's a DVC member. We stayed at the Polynesian last year and we stayed on the second floor about where you pointed at 34:30 and we could watch the fireworks. Those rooms do cost a little more than the other rooms in Moorea. And it was quicker to walk to the TTC from there then to walk all the way to the main building.

Tim so funny with your Toilet Paper comparison. We stayed in Disney World for the first time at Port Orleans Riverside last year, the only but very big complaint was how awful the toilet paper was! I was shocked at how cheap and ruff it was. Thanks so much Tim. I understand the effort that goes into making these resort walks but they bring back so many memories and make us want to plan another trip. We have been lucky to stay in many of the resorts and we all sit around the TV to watch your tours. The Poly is very busy, we found it more enjoyable to stay at the Grand Floridian DVC building and walk along to visit. But the lobby is simply the best of any resort.

As soon as I saw you were going to the Polynesian, I couldn’t wait to hear you try to pronounce the names of the hotel buildings, particularly as we live in New Zealand which is also known as Aoteroa. LOVED it when you pointed right at it and went “what the heck is THAT?” 😆 By the way it’s pronounced “Ow-taya-rower” but it was a solid effort!

People probably look at you like you're a weirdo when you do this but they don't understand that there's folks like me who watch what YOU'RE filming with more interest than an official Disney resort planning video. Hi Tim, these are great videos. I love the fact that you go through the entire place. I think you do a MUCH better job than the Disney people in showing off their own resort. It's exactly what a regular person going there would like to see and know about the place before they get here. In addition, you show the food and the prices so everyone knows what's available. You show everyone every thing. If you do anyplace, I really think you should make the video an hour long in each case but no more than that. That would ensure a really thorough job on any venue. In these videos you do are a real service to the public who is considering these venues. THANKS.

I have been avoiding this video because nothing fuels my Disney obsession more than the Poly and a Disney trip just isn't in the cards for us any time soon. I cried real tears when they remodeled the lobby...lol. I felt like part of my childhood died. The smell of the lobby was my "Disney smell" and it just isn't the same now. Also, I'm sure this will never be seen but it has always been Transportation and Ticket Center :) We always loved taking the walkway from The Poly over to the TTC to get to the parks instead of taking the boat or monorail because it was always way faster!

Getting ready for our next trip to the Poly in October, so decided to rewatch this video. A little tip from me: Bring your own bottle of rum, then just order a dole whip from pineapple lanai. Way, way cheaper. If you're flying in and checking luggage, you can put the rum bottle in your checked bag (I recommend a plastic bottle wrapped in a plastic bag just to be safe). I bring my Disney/Starbucks reusable cup to mix it in, plus it keeps it from melting so fast on those hot days. So yummy!

Fun fact, that “Fisherman guy” is actually named Uti, and she’s the tiki goddess of fishing. That’s actually a replica of her when she used to be at the tiki room in Disneyland, before the roof she was on collapsed due to wood rot. Pretty cool to see!

I stayed at the Polynesian the last time I went to Disney and I stayed in the moorea vacation club building. My room was on the third floor over looking seven seas lagoon and we had an absolutely amazing view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Thank you for a wonderful tour. Brought back great memories of when I was fortunate enough to stay there for several vacations. But I'm so aggravated they've since put those ugly Bora Bora bungalows directly in front of the rooms and now block the view of the castle!

I’m going going to Disney World next month, I hope I can stay at this resort. I found out on Tuesday which resort we’re staying at. I enjoy watching your Disney related videos. It gets me more hyped.

Three years late but Tim’s rant on toilet paper at the deluxe resort reminded me of when I worked at the contemporary as a custodial cast member years ago-the toilet paper at the deluxe resorts is Angel Soft! I had no idea that the other resorts had different toilet paper until I stayed there with my family last in the year. #themoreyouknow

We stayed at the bungalows in September (closer the to ferry dock at ttc) and the only time we really heard the ferry boats were if we were on the back deck. The inside did a good job of keeping the noise out in my opinion. Plus we were out at the parks most of the day.

Hey Tim. At 7:27 there is actually an extended food menu on the left behind the Disney employee on the left. It has additional food options like bacon cheese burgers. Also it might help clarify for parents that flat breads were pizzas and they were very good. (Same as contemporary). The kids menu also included a drink such as a chocolate milk and a side (frenchfries etc).
We stayed there in February and felt the pools were the best for young kids out of all of the high end Disney properties. One thing that was disappointing about the pools was that the pool surface was extremely rough and most kids suffered from red / bloody knees. Fellow parents also were unhappy about this. The pool surface was a rough concrete mix of pebbles which probably is low maintenance and anti slip but just awful for kids knees. Tim if you ever go back you might want to check that out and share your thoughts.

Tangaroa Terrace was a restaurant at the Poly when we visited late 80s and early 90s. We had huge Mickey Waffles for breakfast there.
