Rolling my lips inward really helped my tone so much in just an hour! Thanks for the tip
glad to hear it!
the last tip helped me since my sound went from farting noises to actual trombone noises
OMG!!! LIFE CHANGING!!!! I've been playing since I was 12. Taught by a foster parent but never taught this. My tone has been inconsistent, this fixes that and the rough starts after taking a breath! Thank you!
I was blowing our this whole time and I just blew in word and oh my goodness it made all the freaking difference thank you so much
Wait u don’t blow?
Rolling with my lips in helped lots and I havnt been taught that before thank u so much!
This is great, got a much better sound after like 20 minutes of applying these lifehacks, having previously spent two months practising daily to pretty much no avail
Has the beginning band member that just learned trombone that really helped thank you
Amazing info! Most important, rolling lips inward. No one else has pointed that out. My playing more clarified, sounds great. No wobbly, inconsentant, airy weird. 😊
Okay this is really weird! I've been playing trombone for 4 years and always with outward lips, no-one has EVER told me to do the other way. I tried it and my playing improved dramatically within an hour of practice! YOU ARE AMAZING, THANKYOU!
Really really glad that helped! I wish you the best of luck on your trombone journey ❤️
holy shoot, ive been the best trombonist in my band for a long time and i cant believe ive been making a beginner mistake like this! Thanks for helping, definitley deserves a sub!
Great tips, i'm gonna try this later when I play at band! Thank you! And I need a trombone teacher!
I was so frustrated because I didn’t understand why I couldn’t hit any notes consistently. The last tip makes so much sense
Glad it was of some use to you! I hope it helps!
This helped so much more than I thought it would, thanks a lot!
It worked the first time I tried it
Thank you this is going to help so much with my school
That was exactly what I was taught that very thing in Jr. High band class. We spent a who period blowing into a m😂outhpiece, then the next musiìc classty brought the bress.. I did frenchhorn. A couple of years but we moved and that school didn't have music . That was a bummer because I got good grades in that class because I've liked it and I was good at it. Forgot all of it, don't remember 1 thing about how to read and understand what I'm looking at . Should have respected it like you did. Good job ,keep teaching little stuff like this. I just got that memory when you explained the sound in the mounth peich. See, I told you, queen of brass all day every > all day, but I lenjoy your little funny'sç
i have band and i chose trombone and i been struggling sound better and this helped tysm
My teeth are getting involved and i feel like my teeths shouldnt be getting involved but its the only way i dont just make breathy fart sounds
It can help with teeth spacing to clack your teeth together before you play since it's easier to go from closed to a good open position, than it is to go from a bad really open position to a more closed one
Thx helps a lot I'm gonna rock band class now
I just started trombone like 3 weeks ago and I just realized I’ve been doing it wrong 😭
I’ve been rolling out and wondering why it doesn’t sound right ?!?!
Great video, thanks!
This is so helpful
THANK YOU!!!
Ty I Trina begginer band in fourth grade
Thanks
I just joined band near Christmas time I joined quite late but I want to make a fast growth in my playing rn I’m stuck on learning the notes and making my notes go higher tysm for the tips please let me know if you have anymore
Thank you!! I’m going into concert band this year and I actually have open house today, thank you for the refresher!! 🤍✨
love those firm corners
I think you need to start all your videos with "What up, trombone nation!" LOL!
I'm confused because some great trombone players look like they have their mount outward instead of inward
I've been doing this wrong a very long time. I have to untrain some bad habits.
my lips also go out on low notes i don’t know if it’s a reflex or a bad habit
I think it’s natural for lower notes-and it also depends on the person!
when you say roll your lips in do you mean like completly or just dont play wiht your lips out cause usually i can play up to Db 5 lines above the staff but when i roll in i can barely play Bb right above the staff
omg i never knew the inward mouth thing. I’ve always played with an outward mouth, and now i’m so confused and can’t do it inward. Help?
I mean if you sound good the way you do there's no need to change! Different strategies work for different faces so I wouldn't worry too much :)

Can you please help me a little bit more I tried rolling my lips and air just started come out the sides, and then when I tried firmer sides, more air started coming out
Hey-I do free 15-minute lessons on Lessonface if you’d like a diagnosis sometime!
Could you help me? I used your steps but then right when im about to play, I must have gotten into a bad habit of smiling instead of frowning when playing my instrument and I dont know how to fix it.
I teach lessons over on Lessonface-feel free to sign up for a trial and we can talk it through!
Im confused what is meant by rolling out and inward?
When you go to kiss something, you’re rolling the lips out-you want to go the other way!
I can’t play with my lips inwards I don’t get it
How exactly do you roll your lips inward? im like really comfused. but thank you 😊
Oooooh let’s see…if you make a kissing face/duck face and buzz, the sound is kind of wet and gross, because the buzz is using the inside/wet part of the lips. If you do the opposite of that, and bring the lips back toward your mouth and use the outside part of the lip (the part you can see!) to make a buzz, the sound should be a lot dryer.
This is really hard to explain via text haha, but hopefully that helps! I do free 15m consultations on Lessonface if you ever want more help 👍
How do I get the air to stop escaping the sides of my mouth?
Like she says, tighten the corners of your mouth and keep your air centered in your mouthpiece
