As a flute, I can confirm

I played two low instruments in high school and this was always my experience when the high instruments were getting yelled at for not knowing their parts

Love your arrangement. You get such a great even tone. I wish I had stuck with trombone. I taught myself to play trombone 40+ years ago just to play the trombone song, "Marie" by Tommy Dorsey (I grew up in a musical family). However, after learning it I moved on to another instrument. (I had a tendency to learn an instrument just to play *one particular song*, lol.) You're fantastic!

I'm a percussionist so it's not like I have any stake in the matter, but as I understand it, this trombone thing kinda falls into an archetype similar to how Tuba is often associated with "oompa" music. It's been a thing in media for decades. I can understand the frustration for it being overused as a stereotype though. The way I see it is it's one of the distinct capabilities of a trombone so composers like to use it as much as possible when trombone gets featured. I personally really enjoy when instrumentation is used to characterize with common traits. Makes things feel familiar. (also Kushara is the harp part. The flute seems to be added to flesh out the melody, similar to the bongos)

Oh I like that articulation mismatch. That's a compositional tool I use, short on top of long or vice versa. This really sounds to me like people performing what they feel rather than being strictly guided, and I enjoyed it. I think the same is true for the rhythms they're choosing to play. Yes, trombone can match these things. But as with my euphonium, I don't always like the sound of it. Doing faster articulations in lower octaves can sound muddier. A fast low octave scale on a piano sounds muddier than a high octave scale. I feel like this helps paint the trombone favorably, using it in a way that enhances the song.

When I transitioned from middle to high school I bombed my audition because I played WAY to much and I was the last person to go. I wound up making last chair of the entire band. I didn't like my band director at all after that. He TOTALLY ignored me even tho I had my heart into music. I gave up completely unfortunately.
