Hey Paul, I discovered this years ago when my doctor said that I was letting myself get dehydrated. You are right, it makes a huge difference in how you play and think. It also makes you go to the bathroom a lot, but I got used to that.
Agreed! Every day I don't drink enough water my tone and then my playing comfort, in that order, are worse! I figured this out a while ago but it's cool to see others finding the same and bringing it to light!
This seems like something that people should already do, but like you said, sometimes we are dehydrated and don't even realize it. Thanks Paul, I love your videos and I have been improving on my tenor trombone ever since I started watching your videos.
Your voice changed too 👍higher pitch & less cracking. I do drink water while I play. I've always had my water touching 1 leg of my chair, while in school. Mute on left and water on the right. Very cool point!
I always bring a bottle of water to drink, even for performances so I can keep my lips fairly moisturized and prevent them from drying out and causing my tone is be a little weak.
Maybe this is why I feel like I used to be better at trombone last year in middle school because I only play it for jazz band, which at middle school was at the end of school after I’ve been drinking water all day, but in high school it’s before school before I have any water. Also it might just be because i really need to play more, but at least for right now I need to focus on band auditions for next year on tuba

The more you play, the more water your body shall use. Therefore, practicing more (could) reduce your need for the urinal.

thank you!
sharing this information made you a better trombonist, human and content creator
I agree. I always have water with me when I'm playing and it increases my endurance and sound.

Me too! (but without the mute.)
This would always happen to me and after I started drinking water I realized I could play way better. Thanks !❤

Something is satisfying about him drinking and talking about water. Including the ASMR.

Gotta say, I've never tried drinking water before so this should help a ton
