  • Day 2 of Rally on the Rocks 2019 in Moab and did a quick rip of Sevenmile before the group rides.
A fun trail with great scenery for photography. Not techinical, but use GPS and have fun on the high speed washes on the Northside of the area (Tusher and Bartlett)

I was wondering if you could let us know where exactly the dinosaur tracks are located. Is there a name for this site. This isn't the Mill Canyon Track site is it?

I’ve checked onX Offraod and a couple of other trail apps, and they list this trail as very challenging with near vertical grades but you are giving a very different opinion. Are you on a different part of the trail? What gives?

Interesting... it isn’t difficult at all. There is a steep off-camber section after the Monitor and Merrimack but no big deal.

What kind of GPS are you running

I use Avenza GPS on a Samsung Galaxy Tablet. Sometimes I use Ride Command but it doesn’t function very consistently anymore

Just an outstanding video! Moving to Kanab Utah next spring/summer. Bought a piece of property there. Having a house built. Moab is just north of Kanab. Can’t wait to explore the beauty that is waiting for me! I’ve had my eye on the Yamaha YXZ. Thoughts? Question, do you go back the same way, or drive in a loop somehow? The rock crawling doesn’t look as much fun as the more “open” areas to me, just my observation. I would think GPS is a must out there, looks like you can get turned around easily. Love your videos my friend, do you live in Utah?

Thanks! Sevenmile Rim is definitely known for its scenery vs the rock crawling. And you’ll definitely want GPS, super easy to get turned around out there. As for the YXZ, it isn’t known for its rock crawling abilities too much, especially compared to the RZR and X3

Lucky you! Living in MOAB should be great! Be aware of the pending BLM land sale though- could effect many things including riding areas and real estate values.
My thoughts are that reviews are very subjective. All these UTV's have their strong point and weak points. Your best bet is to rent or borrow/drive your top 3 UTV's and see which one you want to buy. I rented the KRX-1000 last year in MOAB and it did amazingly well with crawling (has a crawl mode.) It easily looks the best of the bunch IMO and the suspension is incredible (as everyone agrees.) It absorbed the whoops at speed easily- just very dialed in. That said, it has a CVT which isn't ideal but still, it should be a strong contender.
I believe that from 2019 the YXZ1000 has a dif lock. If I were to buy one, I think this would be the one. It has an outstanding motor (Yamaha is known for) and a real transmission. They also made several major updates to the 2019 model. It is a little faster and quicker than the KRX- especially right off the line (more fun- more visceral feel vs. the KRX is more plush- but still very capable, just different.) It would be a toss up really- they are both GREAT! The best value would clearly to buy a slightly used 2019 YXZ, unless you found a 2019 KRX for around the same price (not likely as the msrp is higher.) Whichever one you buy, your first mod should likely be a 4 point harness. Don't trust the single shoulder and lap belt to keep you in under all scenarios.
      Have fun!

What trail(s) would you recommend for a full day ride? Already have Fins and Hell's then Poison Spider, Golden Spike and Gold Bar planned out. RZR is not street legal. Was thinking Behind the rocks and Pritchett, but wasn't sure if I would have to double back on Pritchett.

I would say Moab Rim, Cliffhanger and Chicken Corners. Trailer to Moab Rim and then cruise down to the other trails. Cops won’t bother you over there for being street legal.
Or you could do Sevenmile and cruise over to Steelbender. Sevenmile isn’t a technical trail but really scenic with great views and landscapes if that’s your thing and Steelbender is as easy or as hard as you want to make it with each obstacle

+1 for Chicken Corners IF you want a nice, fairly Easy, highly Scenic and very Long (~40 miles one way) trail ride. Many other options, including the ones you mentioned are more challenging- not necessarily better or worse. It all depends on what you are looking for.
KANE CREEK (on the way to Chicken Corners- it's on your left- turn off) is an amazing trail but I highly doubt that you would make it through on a UTV (it's too wide and heavy.) We struggled on KTM enduros- fair bit of lifting in technical, spots and over big rocks/ledges. The first part of KCreek though is still very scenic and can be done. When in MOAB, always pay attention to two way trails- traffic can come up on you quick from the opposite direction, including in and around Mill Canyon/Monitor and Merrimac area. Also, NEVER attempt to ride up any river or stream- you will quickly regret it. They lead to nowhere and you will sink and get stuck.
