I was in 4th grade when the song Mandy came out. I was the only Mandy in my school. It was not a popular name in 1974. I didn’t like my name because I could never find it in a key chain or a mug. Then Barry Manilow sang a song just for me. It was awesome.
That's an amazing story!! Happy for you!
That is so cool! My little sister was in kindergarten or 1st grade and had a girl in her class named Mandy, she always talked about her when the song came on!
I was named after this song in 1975
We are the same age. What a fantastic time to be alive and experience incredible music of such a vast variety when we could turn on the radio and hear all kinds of stuff on the same station even.
This song made me cry back in the day! Pretty sensitive kid obviously. Haha!!
That’s so cool! Mandy is my fav song of Barry’s. ❤
This man has no idea how much we love him and his music, and how positive an effect he has had on our lives🥰💕 LOVE THIS MAN!
Amen!
Barry Manilow is a shooting star that never burns out! Born to lift spirits and keep the melody going.
Aaaaaamen!! 🤗
Barry Manilow!!! You are a generational icon!! Do you even know how much effect you had on so many of our YOUNG lives! I hope you love yourself, as much as WE love you!! ❤💖🌹
I fell in love to Barry's music when I was in high school back in 1980. My girlfriend and I refused to remove Barry's greatest hits 8 track tape from the player in my truck. Our friends got so used to hearing it also that we would have "sing a longs" together on the tailgate 😂. It was one of the happiest times of my life. Being 17 y/o, made $50 a week at my "after school" job. I always had money. Gas was .50 cents a gallon. We didn't have to have car insurance. My old truck was paid for due to saving from a summer time job. I was in heaven 👏🤗. Thank you Barry for all your music that has made us who we are today.
How great is it a young man can appreciate the fantastic music we took for granted back in the day. Proof Barry's music will last for generations
When I was a kid loving Barry I called the radio station so much to request Mandy they told me to stop. That was with a rotary phone. Lol
Rotary phones!!!!🤘🏻☎️*☎️*☎️ &📼*📼*📼
we have ours...a wall one. love it and will never part with it. My dad worked Pacific Bell 34 yrs
I love this ❤️ thanks for the smile
Barry Manilow has got such a quick humor. I love it.
Barry Manilow music never gets old like love !!!!
I just saw Barry in concert on 1/17/23, and it was epic! He is still so dreamy! ❤️🥰😘
I seen Barry Manilow in concert about 10 years ago. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen! I’ve loved him since childhood! 😍
EVERY one of his songs is a classic. You can never hear them enough. Thank you, Barry Manilow.
I’ve loved Barry for so long growing up I had all his albums & loved singing along ❤
Barry Manilow is a music genius. So many beautiful songs, and Mandy is one of them.
I completely agree.
@@NellieKAdaba Me too! I've loved his music for decades now. Saw him live a number of times, and he's an excellent showman!
Dear V Mrqs, you're a Goofball. Scott English wrote 'Brandy' with Richard Kerr. Barry covered it and changed the name to 'Mandy'. Barry is a music genius, but please, know what you're talking about before spewing ssssh!tt.
Hear, hear.. 👏👍🏼
He writes the songs that make the whole world sing
I love Barry Manilow. One of the greats.
Hello Shea..
Mr. Manilow will always be one of the greatest entertainers.
I’ve seen Barry in concert twice!!! His music is timeless! I still remember hearing Mandy at an 8th grade dance back in 1975… 🥰🥰🥰🥰
jennysue62 Honey, we’re the same age! I used to dream about being one of his background singers when I was in 8th grade. Do you remember Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve? I mean, back when Dick Clark was still alive? He had Barry on that show probably more than once. It was a tradition back then to listen to Barry sing “It’s Just Another New Year’s Eve.” I’ve seen Barry live 4 times. Twice at the Universal Studios Amphitheater, (one of those times was on New Year’s Eve). Then, I saw him on a set at Paramount Studios on a taping of The Leeza Show when he released his Singing with the Big Bands album in ‘94 (part of that show is here on YT and you can see my friend and I on camera). Let me tell you that watching him sing with a band like in the 40’s was wonderful! Finally, I flew to Vegas in ‘94 or ‘95 to see him at the MGM Grand. You’re completely right. His songs really are timeless. ❤️
It happened for me too in 8th grade at a sweaty house party in somebody’s basement:) and still when I hear “Mandy” I get a bit flushed and fluttery 🤣 So many memories🤍
@@karenderuyter2568 🤣
When this song hit the charts, back when I was a kid, we all bawled our eyes out and wanted to marry Barry Manilow. 🥰
19 years old and Barry Manilow is my top 1 most favorite musician and singer. Discovered him from that Family Guy episode, and Seth had every reason to love him.
He's *78????* Unbelievable! I've loved so many of his songs. He's one of the few singers who sings every word so CLEARLY that you can follow all the lyrics perfectly. With SO many singers I can't even understand what they're saying.
Forever fan of Barry 🥰
Watching Barry interact with William, I was reminded of the time Barry told a young fan "I was the Justin Bieber of the '70s. Ask your mother." Manilow has always been cool like that.
😂🤣😂Justin isn’t gay.....
Love Barry but Donnie Osmond was the Beiber of the 70s
@@annweir978 It might be a tie with David Cassidy. He was packing in 50'000 seat stadiums back then.
@@oregon32nursenurse43 🚪He is closeted dear ... 🚪
@@fuzzyduck1989 Not sure if you mean Barry or Justin. Barry came out 6 years ago, so he is not closeted.
B M is timeless . you can see it, you can feel it. The guy is special.
!
I've seen Barry 3x and would go see him again and again
I would love to set and just visit with him
Thanx for all your beautiful songs and your concerts. Still love you
He's a music genius, one of the best writers of music during my lifetime, I'm so grateful to have seen him quite a few times in concert.
Aww William White looked so nervous but this was super sweet. He brought Barry's music to another generation and that is just awesome!
My o my, yes you have the eyes and smile. Stick with Barry! Movies are one hit wonders - get your ppl to contact Justin Timberlake, pure example of a class act!! He could open more doors than you can imagine - go with “class, dignity, and respect.” Rooting for you in every possible way. Don’t get ahead of yourself and become
your own worst enemy!!
@@maddie7920 Hahahaha, Timberlake, example of a class act? Please.
Barry Manilow was the first album I ever had (probably in the 70’s). I played it over and over again until my sister broke the album in half so she didn’t have to hear it anymore! I am still a huge fan!
What a meanie! 😕
😂
Que triste mala tu hermana 😂
Just saw Barry at Radio City last night. He was amazing and his voice is iconic and unique. 79 and still going strong. God bless you Mr Manilow.
I’m so happy to see references to Mandy. A lot of people in my generation don’t know good music like this or many others of this era and before. ❤️
It's All right there
Was one of my favourite songs in high school! Loved it!
Two artists were releasing Mandy songs at the same time. The other band changed their title to Brandy. Another great song.
@@Caperhere Looking Glass with Elliott Lurie, and he did a streaming bit on RUclips singing that song last year
@@zachhoran Thank you 👍🌸
I have been listening to Barry since about 1974. I have always loved his music. It is timeless. It’s wonderful to see the younger generation being exposed to real music. Great for that Dad to share his love for Barry’s music with his son!
I just love how Barry Manilow is fascinated on how this young man discovered 'Mandy' - How lucky for him that his dad was a Fanilow!! 🤩
Love love this wonderful man and artist. The reason too we love him is he was so HUGE in a wonderful time in America. We love him still as he lifts our spirits in this tough time in America. He is like a sweet family member. There is a gratefulness and humility about this man that a LOT of performers could take a lesson.
I loooove Barry Manilow, and his music, especially his greatest hits album, such a classic!! Mandy is such a beautiful heartfelt song! Watch out William, with those dreamy eyes!😄
Musical Genius, love Barry X
I took my dearest Mum & Dad to see Barry as a surprise when they flew from the UK to Australia to see me and my daughter. Both my Mum and Dad have now left us but my memory of the day when I said we were going to see...and their faces on that night when we saw Barry M at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre will stay with me forever! Thank you....
😕❤❤
Great story Poppy.
Parents may be gone but the memories are what keep our heart warm!!
@@sammyd9564 I was very lucky to have them both for as long as I did, they gave me a lot of good memories.💝
I wish I could've taken my parents before they passed my mom was 48 and my dad was 55. I just turned 24 when they passed. They would always sing karaoke to Mr. Manilow's songs and harmonize perfectly all throughout my childhood.
@@andrearaulmartinez4208 So sorry you lost them both at such a young age but they left you with lovely memories and a good many smiles - make sure you sing with them in mind to Barry! I know I do...💝
I went to my first Barry concert at Manchester Arena in the UK in 1996 when he was 50, and he was fabulous! I was only 16 and as a musician myself, he was and is such an inspiration. His amazing voice, his songs, his charisma, his arrangements, and his love of music is rare. To me he is the greatest!
I will forever LOOOOOOVE this wonderful man!!!!🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜
i LOVE BARRY! Kelly's interest to all her interviewees is really contagious - SUCH A GREAT HOST!
This song came out while I was pregnant with my first child. I heard it one day and said...that's going to be her name....I spelled it Mandi just to be different. She is now 46 years old and is an ICU RN. Name worked well for her. Thank you Barry Manilow.
Named my daughter Amanda in 1987 planning on calling her Mandy after this song but she wasn't a Mandy...she was always Amanda.
@@janeta3509 I must admit, I'm not a big fan of shortening names (unless by close family members as a "pet name"). We have homes in both the U.K. & the U.S.A. & our American family were perplexed as to why the British, especially, were upset at Meghan using the name "Lillibet". The name came to be as her baby sister, Princess Margaret, couldn't pronounce Elizabeth😊. So, you see, that's why it seemed so ridiculous to those who knew the back story when Meghan gave the queen's grandchild what had only ever been a private, family nickname. Amanda is a very pretty name for a girl. There! You got a book instead of a reply😂.
I absolutely loved how I absolutely loved how astonished and curious Barry Manilow was about how that cute young guy found the song Mandy. And the best part was he was there so Barry could ask him!
I’m pretty sure I was named after Barry’s “Could it be magic” I love seeing how humble Barry is about his success.
Sweet Melissa!!

“Talk about getting laid with music.” Barry is so funny. Such a gem and talent. Blessed he’s been part of the soundtrack of my life.
Just saw Barry in Vegas March 16...phenomenal show! He sounds amazing, dancing & singing for 90 minutes or more, & he'll turn 81 in June! Love him! 💜💙💜

The oldies still got it !!!! Barry Manilow keep going ...you're the greatest !!!!
Finally, "Harmony" gets to New York. Barry released some of the songs from it back in the early 2000's and they're great. "Every Single Day" and "Where You Go" are magnificent. And yes, nearly a half-century later, "Mandy" still works.
"Where You Go" always gives me the chills. "Stars In the Night" is another one. So happy he's finally able to get Harmony on stage!
Barry's kind of .using and that Era in music isn't a very specially time in music.
I've been a Barry Manilow fan since I was 10. Still am. He's such a good guy and I love his songs.
