    Hi, thank you for your video and suggestion! Very helpful! I wonder what happened to the original plant, I mean, the stalk all cut? The cut parts, you planted again but the original one left with no leaves? I have a giant Monstera of 50 years old and I would like to cut and reshape as it massively grew throughout my living room... thank you!

      I got rid of the old rootball. A this point it’s almost ready to be cut again, so I may keep the rootball this time and see if it regrows.

    I have 2 of these in my backyard, and they are huuuge, and I really want to cut them up and propagate them.
    The reason I want to do that is because my neighbour thought they were on their property (our boundary is a bit vague) and I want to save them because they just cleared a lot of greenery on their property.
    Their main trunk and leaves are seriously huge and thicccc
    Question: Will they remain huge, and new leaves be equally huge as they regrow?
    I want to have them as indoor plants.
    I'd like a slightly small monstera in my house, but I want to save these ones.
    Going by your method in this video I could get a number of them.
    I also heard that they should sit in water for some months before repotting? Does that depend on the maturity of the plant and root system?
    I'm kind of just assuming that they'll be huge because the plant is old and large, and the leaves will match the current energy.
    I hope this makes sense haha.
    (I'm kind of new to plants. In my plant dad era)
    Thanks!

      Hi! I assume you are in a tropical climate if they are growing outdoors happily. If you can take a cutting off the very top it may be a bit smaller, and growing indoors they won’t really get as big. It also depends on the variety, there are many dwarf varieties on the market. You definitely don’t need to sit them in water, I planted mine directly in soil. If you want to see the root development though, this is a good way of doing it. Depending on your indoor conditions, the leaves MAY continue to be huge, but that’s not guaranteed. My recommendation, go for it! Take multiple cuttings and try it both ways, that way you’ll have lots and if you find they root faster in water, please let me know :)

    So you don't wait for the cut ends to dry and can just pop them right into soil without sealing or anything like that? I'm so scared of the cut ends rotting!

      Nope, I never have! I’ve probably cut it this way a dozen or so times now over the years.

    What kind of piano? I’m also a teacher and have my monstera near a grand piano. She and the dogs and cat get a lot of musical stimulation

      Hi! It’s an antique Heintzman (Canadian made) from the late 30’s but I have a newer upright in my studio that I use for teaching. The grand only gets ‘light’ use from me & my own kids. Christmas tunes and such ❤️❤️

    Help! I have a big Monstera. It has 5 long stalks with 5 big leaves. No nodes. How do I propagate it? Unless the nodes are under the soul. 😮

    • @NicolesGardenNS
      @NicolesGardenNS  5 месяцев назад

      The nodes will likely grow once cut, but with only 5 leaves that doesn’t se ready to cut. If it’s growing that tall with few leaves, it likely needs more sun. I wouldn’t recommend cutting it yet.

    • @NicolesGardenNS
      @NicolesGardenNS  6 месяцев назад

      Oh at least 20, but I chop it like this every 3-5 years to keep it under control. Since I made this video it’s rooted well and put out 3 new leaves 🌿☺️

    • @NicolesGardenNS
      @NicolesGardenNS  6 месяцев назад +1

      You mean if I left them in water, instead of potting them up? I haven’t tried that myself but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people do that successfully. Worth a shot!

  • @samray3461

    I came into the possession of over 15 massive monstera cuttings. My plan was to sit them in water for a month - but you went straight to soil? I want to do this right as these cuttings are from a plant that must be decades old

    • @NicolesGardenNS
      @NicolesGardenNS  Год назад +2

      I don’t think there is one ‘right’ method, and if you have that many, why not try half in water and half in soil? That’s the best way to compare!! Just make sure the cutting don’t have more than 3 leaves or they may have difficulty sustaining that much foliage while building a strong root system.
