    I'm wondering if there was perhaps a small scratch on the Casio seeing as it had been worn. I would think (guess) that a small scratch would make it considerably more likely to break. With home canning jars they say not to use metal utensils in them because you could scratch it leading to breakage. Good content for sure. a marshmallow or a piece of styrofoam would be funny

    I think the fact that your watch is used has something to do with it. Glass, being both amorphous and brittle, is much weaker when scratched. Even at the microscopic level. The term is a 'stress riser'. Just like scoring a piece of window glass and then snapping it off.
    I also think the fake you got is an usually well built example. Not just designed, but I think you got very lucky with all the components being manufactured and assembled near perfectly.

  • @nelsonferrer8994

    The best metals those we can use to withstand those amounts of atmospheric pressure is Titanium, which that metal is being use for creation of submersible vehicles such James Cameron's deep sea challenger vehicle and Victor Vescovo's DSSV Pressure Drop submersible. Those are already tested and proven when they traveled deeply to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, and Philippine Trench.

    Does ice compress under pressure? I'd like to see different types of wood. I imagine pine would compress a lot more than, say, ebony.

    • @TheDropzoneChannel
      @TheDropzoneChannel  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for the sub! Yes, there will be an episode on ice (perhaps a hollow block) and one of various types of wood. Although I'm still trying to figure out how to measure the compression at the deepest point. Maybe a caliper with a spring or something...

    • @shanep5121
      @shanep5121 4 месяца назад +1

      @@TheDropzoneChannel yes, that would be a challenge. So maybe cut a piece of steel I-beam (since it won't compress) and cut the piece of wood to fit perfectly into the slot of the I-beam. Graduate the face of the I-beam so that as the wood compressess you could measure the distance from the steel wall of the I-beam at full compression. This would require an overhead view. If you stood the I-beam on end, the wood might fall out upon compression. You would also only measure one direction of the grain, so you would need to try two pieces, and lay the grain in different directions on whatever background scale you lay out. I think the wood will compress much more along the sides of the grain than it will on the end of the grain.
      I wish you the greatest success with your channel.
      Edit: You may not even need to graduate the background if you can measure the compression amount by measuring the compression on the screen.

      I think that point is when the case and glass compressed enough for the second hand to press up against the inside of the watch glass. Harder to tell on the Casio since it didn't have a manual second hand. The Casio's hands moved every 20 seconds, and the last time it moved was 15 seconds before the watch glass failure. Interesting seeing the different fracture patterns of the two glasses.
