What a flashback to when the name "Barracuda" on Seagate drives meant fast, high-quality, and premium. Sad how they reduced the name to affordable consumer grade products...kind of feel like polar opposites! What a lovely unit you got here though, the bearings on these older SCSI Barracuda drives always seems to be quite noisy, but what's the issue when you can have all that speed : ))

I have a Barracuda ST39236LC. Works great, no bad sectors.

They're pretty fun drives! Very happy to hear your ST39236LC is doing well too :)

Sounds really nice! For some reason I thought it would be a 10K drive from the design but I guess not (and yeah… Barracuda isn’t 10K so I’m not sure why I even thought that)

Seagate did make a cheetah version of this drive with the same HDA, Cheetah 36XL

Looks cool! Now by any chance, can you make a video on the 36ES2? I always wanted to know what they sounded like…

I don't currently have one of those, but I'll do my best to try and find one! They certainly look interesting enough to warrant a video, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for you!

The 36ES2 was a SCSI adaptation of the Barracuda ATA IV (and equally quiet).

How did you find out that it was factory repaired? Also, is it just me, or does the spindle sound a bit shakey on startup?

Just above where it says "Made in Singapore" you can see the round R "Factory Repaired" icon they slapped on repaired units at the time (I'm sure you've probably seen them on the old Conner-based Medalist drives with big green stickers).
It definitely sounds quite odd when it spins up, but I'm not sure if this is just a quirk of this series or if my drive has some weirdness to it. Wish I had another to compare!
