He went too early but his words have great impact in inspiring Indians to work towards freedom....a country which was golden bird if world and went through so much pain for around 800 years of attacks and invasions left us in very bad shape and created poverty.

They were Hindus who practiced the rituals with high beliefs, but didn't know the real nature of themselves, the divinity that they possess within; so letting people know their true nature was the motto.
Again, Swamiji Himself told at the Parliament of Religions (in his final speech):
“...But if anyone here hopes that this unity will come by the triumph of any one of the religions and the destruction of the others, to him I say, ‘Brother, yours is an impossible hope.’ Do I wish that the Christian would become Hindu? God forbid. Do I wish that the Hindu or Buddhist would become Christian? God forbid.
The seed is put in the ground, and earth and air and water are placed around it. Does the seed become the earth, or the air, or the water? No. It becomes a plant, it develops after the law of its own growth, assimilates the air, the earth, and the water, converts them into plant substance, and grows into a plant.
Similar is the case with religion. The Christian is not to become a Hindu or a Buddhist, nor a Hindu or a Buddhist to become a Christian. But each must assimilate the spirit of the others and yet preserve his individuality and grow according to his own law of growth. ...”

No doubt Swamy Vivekananda was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian darsanas (teachings, practices) of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century.
Nikola Tesla the great scientist was much impressed to hear from the Swami his explanation of the Samkhya cosmogony and the theory of cycles given by the Hindus. He was particularly struck by the resemblance between the Samkhya theory of matter and energy and that of modern physics.
Swamy Vivekananda also had several conversations with Robert Ingersoll, the famous orator and agnostic on religion and philosophy.

Actually it sounded like conversion because the letter was translated into English(, But what Swami ji meant was spread the message Hindu spirituality(way of spirituality away from materialism),selfess service to humanity, Hinduism itself doesn't promote conversion because according to Hinduism everyone is born pure(from the Supreme) each person is a drop of consciousness from the Unlimited consciousness(Mother father brother sister and friend = Parabrahma)

My father used to dress me up as swami Vivekananda for every dressing competition at school.
I didn't know who he was, then in later grades we had a chapter on him.
(one of the stories of him my father told me was, swami used to tear off the page he read bcz he did not have to read it again. I don't know how this legend began lol but speaks volume of his intellect)
Principle of consciousness is not just universal, it is also principle of Multiverse and worlds beyond that.
Later I realised you two practice Buddhism. Swami Vivekananda was greatly inspired by Bhagawan Buddha. In his childhood Buddha appeared before him in his study room while he was reading. This incident has been portrayed with painting in his ancestral house in Kolkata. Next time when you visit India, please do come to Kolkata and visit his birth place. 🙏🏼 May swamiji bless you.

@@RaiseTheWorldProjectNow It's the Hare Krishna mantra. In the west, it has been made popular by Iskcon. However, I would be cautious about learning the teachings of Iskcon as there are good and bad sides to it. There are other mantras which are much older such as the Gayatri Mantra.

As far as we know there is no audio recording of his speech in Chicago. His voice was recorded on wax drums, and it was kept at the Chicago museum, but it was destroyed in a fire accident. There are some clips online claiming to be his voice, but they are not really his.
