One thing I might add, though, is beyond just being a culture reference toy, this has a lot of practical uses that I’ve incorporated into my day-to-day life, including (but not limited to): Alarm Clock, To-Do Lists, Grocery Lists, Weather Reports, bedtime surf-noise generator (with a sleep timer), Dictionary, Morning News, Music on demand (Alexa, play Beatles songs), and timers (Alexa, set timer 1 hour 12 minutes).

The Amazon Echo is one of the best purchases I've made. She is so helpful. I love being able to ask her questions while cooking, play music, and add items to my shopping list.
This is not something I would want to move around, I have three of them, it needs to consistently be in the right place so people know to use it. It's also always listening and the speakers are pretty powerful, battery would not last that long. And besides, the computer on Star Trek was not portable.
Want a surreal experience, play this video in the same room as an actual Amazon Echo. Interesting though, they don't both always give the same answer exactly.

"Alexa, flip a coin" works. If playing a card game, we each cut a card to see who's first. "Alexa, draw a card." "Pick a card" works, too. For movie fun, try "Go ahead, make my day", or "I'll be back". Almost forgot. Ask her to recite pi, and she'll go until you stop her.
