I work with my Dad every day on our family farm, we may have our days where we don't always get along, but man when he's gone idk what I'm gonna do with myself, he's one of my best friends!

This time of year is awesome to see neighbors helping neighbors. Borrowing a tractor or forklift is pretty cool to see. I never seen a PTO driven generator before, that was neat.
Growing up in Iowa in the 70s we had a PTO driven generator that we could run pretty much the whole farm on. At least enough to feed cows, do the milking, and Mom could make supper all at the same time. We had a 1970 John Deere 2020 we ran it on.
Hi Eric - Here’s an idea for a YT short video - a series on the cow brushes. I love watching them use them and a bunch of short clips all focused on the different brushes and the cows using them would be kinda cool. Hope you and your family has a great thanksgiving together. The older heifers know when they spot a good looking guy, and as far as they are concerned you are the bull. Heat tape on the pipes saves a lot bother when it gets cold. It's nice to see them jump and play when the new bedding comes in. I didn't realize the head locks ever had to be replaced. Good video. Pax.
You were right about the further you move down the barn, the more "friendly" the heifers get. And they are so, so helpful too. The box was probably fun to play with though. Good job on taking care of the overall maintenance. Yes, it can be a headache but it comes with the territory. Remember to find two replacement screws so everything is in order and intact. Duct tape does work pretty well, but those wields will hold up better (of course the blue duct tape did add a bit of color to the parlor). Hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving and I hope you all have a Great Christmas.
My love of 45 years and I from upstate NY near Bennington VT totally enjoy all your videos! We live on 6 acres in a rural area near a large Dairy Farm “Herringtons”. They spray the liquid manure in fields all around us. Stinky stuff! We wondered why the farm chose to spray on the hottest windy days. Watching your videos has given me an understanding of the process and the need for efficient farming practices.
One of the many things I like about your videos is how you film and publish what to those of us who’ve worked on dairy farms would seem to be mundane activities. It gives those people with no dairy farm background a chance to see some of the many things a farmer needs to do himself in order to stay in business. As always, great video !!
Eric, Put a wire brush in your angle grinder and clean your welds up. Then spray the welded areas with Rust-Oleum "Cold Galvanizing Compound" and let it dry. Also clean the rust off your head locks and spray them to prevent further rusting. This product works great. I use it on my galvanized chain link fence and it stops the rusting for years. Keep up the good work.

That barn is well thought out, whenever we did things in the pens and the heifers were going to be a pest we would give them a treat and set the headlocks. Also always keep a couple of heaters on hand for the waterers as it always seemed that our supplier had them on back order during the coldest part of the winter.
I so agree with you Eric; it is so discouraging when you don’t have the right equipment to do the repair or job, or it ends up taking twice as much time as you thought it would. Great video thanks for the efforts you put in.

I remember freeze ups being frustrating. 1970 and 80’s. Hair dryers and hot water bottles helped if not froze hard. All it took would be a door not shut tight. 🇨🇦

Eric.....get one of the 110V flux core welders. Weigh less than 20#'s and just plug it into any outlet with a 20 amp breaker. EZY PEEZY, and they're not expensive.
Good job on the head lock repair and on the rail in the milking parlor, looks great. It seems like we have the same problem, when your working on the water system that's when they want to get water, or at least inspect what your doing. Some cows and especially that age of younger calves have a curious nature. Great video, thanks for sharing. Thanks Eric for another interesting video of those necessary repair jobs around the farm. After seeing some of the repairs you have been doing on gates because of rusting, makes me wonder if they are dipping the sections long enough to get a good thickness of galvanized on the steel. A high amperage (30-50 amps) lead/extension is mighty handy. If you have to change out the power leads on one of the silos and the problem is not to big, you may want to save the rubber cord for the motor and get a few parts to put one together. The ones I have worker on are usually #6 copper which works well on large welders. I use an extension made from #8 copper on my welder and it works great. Keep up the videos...they are always interesting. Thanks to you and your dad.

Great videos it’s always fun to see the cows react to the new bedding they look happy jumping around I’m sure there must be a harbor fright in your area or look on Amazon They both have amazing wire feed using gas or flux core wire this would be best for outside ware the wind would blow the gas away or stick, tig or many different combinations of wilders for under 200 to 300 bucks These things are the size of a 12 pack of soda and they run off of 110 Ya that’s right you can plug it in any ware And surprisingly these are great welders and a great value for this kind of portability

Will be interested to know how you like your Monty cross heifers. We have about third Monty cows in our robot barn and they are the best! My favorite of all our crosses. I think you should follow them as they grow and give your opinion. Have a first calf heifer that gave 120 lbs for 100 days, bred back to calve 380 days after her first calf and then 100+ lbs 2 weeks after calving. And we don't feed for high production, we can only make so much milk per day on our base. Love your video, funny to milk cows everyday and find time to watch others milk cows!!!

We put a light bulb inside as well. Light bulb creates just a little bit of heat to raise the temp just a little inside the waterer.
You could get a suitcase welder that can still use 1/8 rod for small jobs.
Can the gates in the new barn be raised up so you’re able to go a bit longer between clean out, or to use the bean bales again? Cows are great help.

just a helpful hint a pair of jumper cables can extend welding leads for a job like the one your doing.
There is no greater joy than working side by side with your son to get a job done right.
A little grinding/wire brush/spray paint on the cuts/welds will push off the rust.

Should get one from an auction and with a snow blade on for winter, that way it has more than one use. Better than using the skid steer for winter.
