Since most people are overweight, wouldnt being skinny make someone in the minority? So fat people are ok with disparaging a minority now? Shamefully hypocritical id say.
I love this video. I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT. I am naturally small / skinny. I have been my whole life and I get verbally attacked for it. My daughter is now 17 and worries if she will gain weight like her friends, "who all the boys look at"! Can't we all just love being ourselves in our skin. And sorry if a person not being healthy makes them feel a bad but you do not have the right to put me down because my clothes fit better or growing up most guys not wanting to sleep with me only. "You stay in a relationship". I am soooo glad she said it because us "skinny girls" are not allowed.
As someone who used to be 300 lbs, I'm so proud of my weight loss and becoming "skinny". I've lost 150 lbs. Literally, half my old size. I feel better. I have a better relationship with food. It's not my crutch when I have a bad day. I used to be all about the body "positivity" movement. There are times it just feels like this is about not trying and not bettering yourself. That was part if my problem when I was bigger.
Totally okay. I also lost 120lbs and no amount of smack could make me upset about feeling great about my accomplishment. Body positivity is a very personal road not a cultural highway.
Allow me to give you a clap. I've been trying to shed weight and doing badly. Sticking with a working regime that loses that much is really impressive.
Just like you can tell a skinny girl to eat a cheeseburger but you can't tell a bigger girl to eat a salad🤷♀️ And I just have to add I've been very skinny and I've been bigger and I only got rude comments from people about my body when I was skinny.
I mean… coke, prescription amphetamines and extreme starvation culture for girls in the 90s-2000s was a thing… I don’t think we should glorify any extremes.
IT'S NOT 'Privilage'... IT'S JUST SELF CONTROL AND EFFORT.... It's a WEIRD (weird) 'Fight' to defend your right to NOT go out (& do AT LEAST a little exercise), and keep eating processed/unhealthy foods 🤨😒 😎🇬🇧
It’s so ironic and reversed. Up is down to them. Next we will be told we have poor privilege. Cause almost literally what they are doing now as they can afford to eat all day and sit in their asses while the rest of us have to put in real work. They are both slothful and gluttonous. Then to top it off, they envy us poor people who tend to find enjoyment with our lives due to the hard work and effort we put into it while they suffer by their own fat, food filthy hands.
Privilege is living in a first world country where poverty and fatness go hand-in-hand. Imagine being in a developing nation. You would not have the money to get fat.
Them: “love your body, no matter what shape or size” “okay…Yay!! I love being skinny!!” Them: “no… that’s not okay to say.. you’re not allowed to talk about how much you love being skinny.. it’s only okay for people who are not skinny to say they love their body size out loud because it’s offensive if you’re skinny.. it’s rude.. that’s not body positivity to us” 🤔 .. what..
Skinny is only ever ok for 'celebrities'. I've been really thin my whole life. High metabolism. Nothing I can do about it but you can bet there's always someone telling me I need to eat a cheeseburger or men like meat on their bones, and so on and so forth.
RIGHT!?!? LIKE......WHAT?!?! 👀🤔🧐🤯🤨🤡🌎 WILD time to be alive!! Best wishes to you and yours!! To EVERYONE!! May God Bless and Protect Us ALL!!!💖🙏💖🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🫶🌎🫶
People are really living a whole life on the internet. Get outside, take a hike, throw a frisbee, explore the neighborhood, put the phone down and the offense at everything with it.
Unfortunately, most of these people either weigh too much into the state of becoming immovable or the health complications disrupts other parts of their bodies, such as their minds.
@@haozhu_shizehua yes they are hypocrites, but they are also phobic of anybody that’s different than them, that looks healthier and prettier. I think deep down inside fat people that talk about how beautiful they are actually hating their body. They just don’t want to admit it so they’re going to say we’re beautiful and you’re just fat phobic. It’s all just a front.
Agree! For the ladies, "over-weight" is the visible measure of how much more you consume vs you're level of out-put. Different for guys tho: defensive linemen are never "skinny" 😂 Skinny queens are our favorite, there's no denying. Save being heavy for grandmother-hood
Not just that, the irony. Privilege refers to an advantage that is given to you. Keyword, GIVEN. As in you wasn’t born that way, you didn’t earn it. Somebody else gave you that advantage. If you worked hard for your millions, your kids would be privileged as they would most likely have access to all that wealth that they didn’t earn which gives them an advantage over poor kids. Allowing them access to better schooled and such. When it comes to weight, the privilege is being able to eat 3 times as much and do less physical labor as everybody else. Working hard to be fit is not a privilege, that’s something we earned. To be told that we are privileged is to have a rich guy tell a poor person “you’re privileged”.
Just another example of the politicization of envy... people used to keep their envy to themselves and use it to drive them. Now it's acceptable to just be openly envious and do nothing to fix your own life while blaming others and expecting the gov to intervene to fix the things you're envious about
Being skinny isn’t a privilege because it can literally be obtained by anyone. I was 360 lbs once and I’m literally 180 lbs now… that wasn’t a privilege. It was work. Bigger people are (most likely) lazy with bad eating habits. It is what it is. And that’s from experience.
This is a great example of do as I say not as I do. Body positive creators always seem to scream out that they love themselves and want everyone to know, but the second someone else does the same with the opposite body, they meltdown. Such a double standard.
I don't know, but I think she is. That head looking too big for the neck *could* just be her body type, but it's a common look on anorexics, and around her shoulders is a little ... odd. She's not skeletal (yet), but I''d bet that in a swimsuit you could count her ribs from 50 feet away. "Slim" is great and all, low fat is healthy, but the human body is not meant to be *entirely* fat free.
*I'm TALL (6'x7") and I get so sick of people telling me "YOUR SO TALL" so I started answering these people "AND YOUR SO SHORT" and it was NOT A GOOD IDEA! I quickly figured out that being short is an insult!!! Now I just ignore these people since it got expensive repainting car after being "keyed" so many times.*
I get the same thing from short women and men, and I'm not even close to being as tall as you (5'10)! Sorry your car got keyed...people can be petty and horrible.
I'm an overweight woman who is NOT a supporter of the Body Positive Movement. It's not healthy to be overweight and it's not beautiful. I am slowly losing weight and trying to get healthy again, but it's not easy. If I had my way, I'd never have gotten the health issues that helped me to gain this weight (yes, part of my weight gain is due to lifestyle, but my health issues didn't help the matter, either). Weight has always been a struggle for me, and I'm always thrilled for those who lose weight and keep it off. They and those who are naturally thin and who work hard to be healthy should be applauded for it - not made to feel as if they can't shout it from the rooftops. Good on Slim Kim for saying that she loves being skinny. She's happy that way and she doesn't have excess weight holding her back. It's such a shame that so-called Body Positive people have caused people who are healthy and thin and trying to lose weight to feel ashamed of that, or to feel as if they can't say it. People should feel free and unashamed to express their love of their bodies at any size - not just overweight. When did being overweight become considered actually healthy and beautiful and the norm? I understand not bullying or being mean to people because they're large or trying to shame them for this, but now things have turned completely upside down, and people who are healthy and thin are the ones now being shamed. That's so bizarre and weird and just shouldn't be.
Honestly, the "body positivity movement" is the exact opposite of what it claims to be. You could compare it to walking down the street and seeing someone with their zipper down and a snotty nose and deciding not to say something to them because you don't want to hurt their feelings or for them to feel embarrassed by you bringing it up. It's like well damn, if you don't tell them, the outcome is going to be WAY more embarrassing and worse for them. 😂
@@solitivity I feel like the whole body-positivity thing, like so much else, started with good intentions and was a good thing for a very short period of time where the focus was just on 'don't be a jackhole to someone just because they're overweight'. All successful social movements must inevitably spiral beyond scope and control as bad actors keep trying to push them 'forward' though. I'm not sure there's a fix, it just seems to always happen eventually.
Good for you! I'm an older person, and before I lost 50 pounds I was incontinent and could barely climb the stairs. Today, the incontinence is gone and I can run up the stairs. I don't look better (a skinny old lady doesn't look any better than a fat old lady) but I feel so much better. It truly has improved my health and quality of life.
Idk who you’re referring to, but When you post the way you think on the internet, you have to take whatever goes with it and you give away your right to tell people to mind their own business.
I’m not jealous of the anorexic. Although it would beat being 400 lb, sure. I don’t ever think about my weight unless I’m thinking about how I’m the same size as Derek Chauvin. I eat when I’m hungry and I stay active otherwise. That’s healthy.
I have been obese and I was diagnosed with cancer and lost 100 lbs. I have lived both sides of this argument and I don't know why it's even an argument! Be happy in the body you're in and if you're not, change your ways! It isn't rocket science!
I just commented basically this.i got "shamed" on fb asking about gaining weight. I'm typically 180-185 and athletic this time of year. I'm under 150. Turns out, stomach cancer and radiation destroy your appetite and make you vomit several times a day. All the comments on my post were basically " must be nice". Yeah... it's real nice being weak, skinny, sick and have no energy when you're used to being active, riding bikes, hiking...
Man body positivity does go both ways i was and still am a small framed woman but as a teenager my overweight adoptive mother would call me fat constantly i didnt realize until i moved out i had an eating disorder and was told by a doctor i was malnourished i was 18 years old 5 ft 5 and 100lbs on a good day 😂 stayed at that weight and my eating disorder continued i didnt start eating right until i got pregnant with my oldest son
How tf are you "not allowed" to state that you like being skinny/having a fit body? She didn't insult anyone. She didn't become overly preachy about losing weight. She said it's her preference to be like this. Times are crazy.
It reminds me that quote from WW2 "We invented body positivity and obese people wouldn't forgive us for that" What's going to happen if you give one person all the power? Now roll that dice 1 mil times... You'll get a dictator that smites you with hypocrisy
as someone who lost 1/2 my body weight and struggled with obeisity my WHOLE life - I LOVE BEING SKINNNNNNNNY! - Everyone needs to chill out.... hahahahaha
@@georged.5595 Cheers - I just wish for people to have the same experience i've had in terms of losing the weight, changing my mental and emotional thought patterns and moving forward - I wish EVERYONE who is struggling with their weight the confidence and support to make changes appropriately for them - and lastly, it speaks on the individual's mental health (commentary such as "Fatphobia") in terms of self-hatred; Anyways - Big thanks to Amala for raising this! COME TO AUSTRALIA AMALA!!!! WE NEED A VOICE LIKE YOU HERE! Cheers y'all
I also love to be skinny and strong, makes doing things a lot easier, and fun, I can still play tag with my kids ya know? I can still hike and hunt….why would I not like it? I got a lil overweight when I had twins, took me over a year to get fit again, my body hurt a lot with all the extra weight, doing everything was hard and I was fairly miserable. Felt depressed. Getting in shape was the best thing for me I ever did! I feel better, work is easier, walking the dogs is easier, everything is better, my energy is better, sex is better too. Literally every part of my life is better. That’s what I think is wrong with a lot of these FA, they are just down cause they feel so icky carrying around all the extra weight. So I’m with ya skinny girl, I love it too! I hope everyone feels good in their own body, it’s the only one you get! God bless ya, hope y’all have a great day!
It's a pendulum, actually quite interesting that nobody foreseen that... Especially in bastion of democracy People have allergic reaction when a political leader is protected from criticism, but same people would protect their minorities (even if they already a majority) from criticism
My sister is skinny and I am on the thicker side. People are always saying inappropriate things to her (such as "omg you're so skinny, you need to eat) yet if she was to say that person needs to stop eating, she'd be wrong. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE should everyone be comfy in their skin or naw lmaooo
How in the Eff does body shape have anything to do with skin color. They are WAAAAYYYY over thinking the most inane BS. everyone is allowed their own opinion. LOVE EVERYONE PERIOD.
I am an extremely fat man. And my current worst fear is that ill be fat forever. There is nothing wrong with being skinny (if its healthy), and everyone should want to be that way. I hate a lot of things about myself most stimming from me being fat. Good news is im down 25 pounds. I have a lot left to go, but it will be the greatest accomplishment of my lifetime. We need to quit telling people its okay to be morbidly obese.
I have been the skinny girl wearing 00 wanting to be thick...got to thick after first kid..body was banging but i coulnt enjoy it because of my very tiny mom pouch 😂,.now ten years after second kid im pushing obese and Im trying to get back to slim thick...women are hardest on themselves. We always want to look like whatever version of perfection is in our mind. Its exhausting..i wish i had just enjoyed and appreciated every version and stage of my body 😊
At 0:43 you can see in Kim's bio that she wrote that she's "resuscitating satire". Honestly, I think she did a good job considering how many people fell for it.
Amala is one of my favorite intellectuals maybe ever. Randomly popped on my feed a month or so ago. Love the content, appreciate the mind, props to your convictions/values.
This has always been a thang, I’ve been under 135 except prego @ 157 but even doctors have treated me like I shouldn’t complain even if I wanted to gain weight. Some of us eat what we want and still don’t gain. JS💪🏾
Not even a double standard. It’s pure projection. They live a privileged life and they are very insecure that laws of physics, gravity, and health aren’t on their side. So they try to make everybody as miserable as them. Only anorexics are fatphobic. Nobody else is. These people are just insecure bullies. We want bodies that can keep up with our minds and they envy that. They feel guilty for their privilege so they try to project and say it’s us poor hardworking people who are privileged.
I almost feel bad that nobody has ever called me names for my beliefs because God knows I would put them in their place and they can cry about it with their parents later
@ oh yes I am! I lost 40 in just 4 months and I’m not stopping! Going to finally have a body I am proud of in the summer time. Thanks for the encouragement
If people in the body positivity community can go online and say they love being fat, skinny people can say they love being skinny There is NOTHING wrong with that
It's okay for certain races to be proud of their race and unwilling to mix races or be unattracted to other races. It's racist for ONE race to feel the same way. IMO all races should be proud of their race.
@@aaadamt964 nah it's weird for everyone. People should be proud of their own personal achievements, or those of others. Being proud of your race is like being a couch potato who says, "my team won" when they watch football and don't play it.
Back in the thin was normal. But we were a generation that was raised outside. we biked, walked, and played outside. There were few overweight kids in school. Now, 40 yrs later, people are huge. Major health problems are caused by being overweight. Then again, there are the anorexic that are harming their health. It's not easy to be either. I was poor growing up and thin. I struggle to stay in shape because I don't want diabetes that runs in my family. From one slim Kim to another you're beautiful, ignore the haters. I miss the days when it was easy to stay thin.
That right there. They all know it too. They try to claim it’s a privilege that we get to have fun when it couldn’t be any further from the truth. We earned our fun by putting in the effort. Won’t be long before the rich cries “poor privilege”. They kind of already are but they’re using euphemisms, or the results of their wealth as masks.
Such a good point. Some people are starving and yet some obese people see themselves as oppressed despite the fact that they have the privilege of abundance of food
It’s just crazy how fat people say skinny people are privileged when most fat people have food stamps or no worries about starving. You always see them eat more than they should, even getting paid to do so. So who’s the more privileged one??
THANK YOU!!! The fact NOBODY is making videos explaining this is so annoying. The concept of privilege is having an advantage that was given to you. You weren’t born with it, nor did you earn it. Most people have to do so much physical labor for so little food. That’s why the symbol of privilege in many areas is of a fat person. Being slothful is a privilege. Being gluttonous is a privilege. Nobody else can afford such a lifestyle. That’s like having a rich guy tell a poor person that they are “privileged”.
I can lose weight but won't change the size of my hips . Still gunna struggle getting my pants around my hips to get to my waist. I'd rather have some pudge, have breasts and butt, then look like a 12 year old boy.
I don't know how many times I have stood up for my thin friends. Leave them alone. They don't need to eat a sandwich. They don't need to fatten up. Let them be the wonderful people they are.
In a way, I see your point, but I've seen people who don't hate themselves, they just love food waaaay too much We need to start admitting to the fatties that they have a FOOD ADDICTION, an addiction that kills more people every year than nicotine and fentanyl addiction put together
There's a difference between being overweight and obese though. Being a bit overweight won't diminish your quality of life, being obese absolutely will.
I've seen skinny people with that attitude turn into whales at every age and it the older they are when it happens, the harder it is for them. None of them know to "just regulate" because they weren't doing it consciously when they were younger. Take care your condescension doesnt come to bite you in the a s s like it did them.
I am a mum of two. About to be three.. I am currently twenty pounds heavier then I was before my first. I was skinny before. And there’s nothing I want more than to be that weight again. I was terrified to gain weight this pregnancy which obviously is ridiculous. I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum and I have always enjoyed being skinny and healthy over overweight and unhealthy.. clothes fit better. Self esteem is higher. My energy levels are higher. I don’t see what’s the problem with wanting to be skinny.
I gained a lot more with my 2nd and 3rd babies than my first too, BUT I went right back down to 105 just the same after I had them. Don’t worry mama! ❤congrats!
@ thank you.. all of the seasoned mommas around keep telling me to just worry about losing the weight after I’m done having babies.. but seeing the weight on gets to be sometimes.. I know these are superficial things to worry about.
What's the opposite of fatphobic? I'm skinny because I have fast metabolism, I also have trouble eating a full meal. It has its ups and downs, some days I hate my body just because some ribs are showing. Where's the love in the body positivity movement for people like me? lol
11:18 the “privilege” to be skinny? babe?? the majority of human beings have the CHOICE to be skinny, but they’re lazy or just don’t car enough?? we all have the privilege to be skinny some people jsut don’t take it
Hey, my dad and I used to be a little overweight as well, but we both joined this professional weight loss program called “Be the Younger You”. It has really helped me, my dad, and many other people successfully lose weight and get healthier. If you’re interested in weight loss, I totally recommend you check out this program.
Shes not setting standards. And also.. MANY people could be skinny if they wanted to be. There are so many people trying to get on the right track with their health and i am so happy for those people. Shes not bullying, y’all are just sensitive.
Is it better to be fit or fat? Fit Is it better to be strong or weak? Strong. Great. So why are we celebrating being fat and weak? Why are you celebrating being WORSE? Don't ever listen to people that thinks it's a good thing to be worse.
And shaming the rest. They are claiming hard work is a privilege while sloth isn’t. They are claiming food budgeting is a privilege while gluttony isn’t. They got everything backwards. To them a privilege is anything they don’t get to enjoy. They can’t fully enjoy their slothful, gluttonous lifestyle because most don’t find that attractive and they suffer health problems as a result of their choices. It’s the rich calling the poor people “privileged”.
With the obesity rates in black women in the US this topic needs to be openly discussed more. My mother who is black is not "overweight" but its hard to have a conversation with her about getting healthier without it upsetting her. My white father tried this morning...that didnt go very well i think she wants to get healthier and i think she knows the reason im always asking if she wants to come to the gym with me comes from a place of love but i think the reason its upsetting is because she knows theres a problem. I love my mum and I want her to be on this world forever and i want to do everything in ny power to keep her healthy.
I myself am disabled not by choice mind you. I am only 130 lbs. and considered very thin. Even though I am thin I still feel trapped in my own body as I can't move as freely as others do as I am bedbound & wheelchair bound on good days. So for me knowing someone has made the choice to eat themselves into not being able to move freely boggles my mind, as I didn't choose not to be able to be mobile. So for me sitting from this perspective of a disabled person I would see that someone whom has an eating disorder be it not eating enough or eating too much both are mental issues that need to be addressed.
And THE SAD FACT IS.... She is MOST LIKELY to be A LOT healthier/fitter than a lot of those that will moan and hate her online (those of, er, 'Rounder' persuasion' 😏) but... They REFUSE to see/accept it! 🤨😒 😎🇬🇧
I love being slim, but not skinny - it's not a good look on me. I'm getting chunky now, but trying to lose it because my favourite clothes do not fit me anymore.
I love being skinny and fit. I am proud that I can take care of myself to be healthy and I always think people who are skinny look better in their clothing than someone who is overweight or thick they attend to look more sloppy is always has been that way, even with models.
@@theresabecerra6773 disagree. I've seen many women who would be considered overweight look nicely dressed and put together. But I will say for myself and my body, I do look more frumpy the more weight I gain.
6:04 now what is that lady saying that’s bad? she’s understanding both sides, she’s talking about internal thoughts that a lot of people have but don’t have the guts to say it out load. Honestly I think Amala just tries to find new ways to hate on a woman.
Umm, “slim shady”? Is Eminem bragging about being skinny too? 😂 Yeah that was all I thought about when the one girl said, “look at her username Slim Kim.”
I’ve always been on the chunky side. Years ago I made some changes and lost a good amount of weight. Then I had a major lifestyle change and gained that weight back. The combination of having had that weight off and now being older made me realize how much harder life physically is with the weight. Even 20 extra pounds. And I’m nowhere near morbid obesity - can’t imagine how that feels. I try to keep this in mind when I want to overeat. It’s hard when food is a coping mechanism, but I try to remind myself that it’s worth it. The girl has every right to express happiness to be uninhibited by extra weight. If I ever reach my ideal weight, I’ll certainly be pleased to be feeling and looking better!
I feel the same. Weight means more when you are small or short. I had only a few extra pounds and i was depressed and hurt from the pain from scoliosis. Everyone said I wasn't fat. Then I lost a few and life transforms.
I don't understand how people stay obese. I let myself go for the past 2 years, gained 20kg, reached obesity levels and now I'm quickly losing weight because it's very uncomfortable and unhealthy - and I'm 21. I have no idea how so many people don't feel compelled to lose that weight, some even after decades. You don't even have to go down to skinny, slightly overweight or a bit chunky is a world of difference from obese.
This is typical of society nowadays. I have something bothering me/ making me feel bad so rather than doing all I can to change it (if possible) or working on myself to accept it and love myself (if changing it is not possible), I will instead demand that the entire world change their view, perception and knowledge to cather to me. It is selfish and delusional.
Since most people are overweight, wouldnt being skinny make someone in the minority? So fat people are ok with disparaging a minority now? Shamefully hypocritical id say.
As a skinny white male, I embrace my new identity as a minority.
Minorities only matter when they behave the way a certain group believes they ought to behave. Many such cases. Sad.
Maybe in the US, but I don't believe any other parts of the world have overweight people as the majority of their population.
@@Osprey850hehe healthy body weight is now a tickable “victim” box! 😁

5:45 All I hear is “I got fat and want to take zero responsibility for being lazy.”
Soooo, if someone embraces being obese, are they thin-phobic, health-phobic, etc.?
no because they are hypocrites
@@haozhu_shizehua yes they are hypocrites, but they are also phobic of anybody that’s different than them, that looks healthier and prettier. I think deep down inside fat people that talk about how beautiful they are actually hating their body. They just don’t want to admit it so they’re going to say we’re beautiful and you’re just fat phobic. It’s all just a front.
Vegetable-phobic 😂
People should be celebrating - philics rather than scorning with - phobics.
Short-lived.
I’m in Sydney Australia, just saw someone on the train next to me watching this video!
Lmao, so people are allowed to say ‘I love being large’ but god forbid someone say ‘I love being skinny’??? The hypocrisy.
They’re both dumb things to say.
Exactly
Same thing as it's ok to be proud of your race as long as you're not white
Just another example of the politicization of envy... people used to keep their envy to themselves and use it to drive them. Now it's acceptable to just be openly envious and do nothing to fix your own life while blaming others and expecting the gov to intervene to fix the things you're envious about
Being skinny isn’t a privilege because it can literally be obtained by anyone. I was 360 lbs once and I’m literally 180 lbs now… that wasn’t a privilege. It was work. Bigger people are (most likely) lazy with bad eating habits. It is what it is. And that’s from experience.
Understand! My story is almost the same. Took me 5 years to lose.
Well done you! It is hard losing weight and you've done it.
Over-eating is a privilege. Being skinny is not. Totally agree.

As long as she is not Anorexic !
What bothers me is that is all she thinks about …
I was just thinking the same. That does not sound healthy.

@@suzannehegarty350 Absolutely! Because that has become another sick outcome of the unhealthy food America now eats.
Agree…. Thinking about it constantly is concerning
*I'm TALL (6'x7") and I get so sick of people telling me "YOUR SO TALL" so I started answering these people "AND YOUR SO SHORT" and it was NOT A GOOD IDEA!
@@solitivity very well said! You got it exactly right.
You don't even have to go down to skinny, slightly overweight or a bit chunky is a world of difference from obese.
please consider the Carnivore diet if you haven't yet. My wife and I have been doing this for over a months and we love it.
